Not surprisingly, it only took Zanka a few steps to realize that he hadn't been magically teleported to a faraway land. Instead, he realized that his body felt weird, lankier, taller. His limbs felt awkward and uncoordinated. He could feel that the clothing on his skin felt different, that the usual training gear had been exchanged for a scrappy and thin shirt paired with shorts full of patchwork. He didn't even have shoes.
No, Zanka knew that this wasn't his body to begin with.
He couldn't help himself when elated giggling escaped past his lips. He was ecstatic. Overjoyed. He felt like he would vibrate out of his skin from the excitement.
The switch — a unique and extraordinary event of two people switching bodies. Not just any people could switch, but soulmates. Those who are meant for each other. One soul split in half, inhabiting two bodies.
And now, Zanka had switched. He had met his soulmate.

“You heard what I said, shitty Dazai. He doesn’t want you. Not a single one of them does, but I do. So you’re going to fucking stay here, because you don’t get to leave me again.”
“I’m not participating in this weird ass fantasy where we spend the rest of our lives together. I’m not him and you know it,” Dazai bites out, renewing his efforts to get out of his bindings.
Nakahara’s hand shoots out to pin him against the couch and stop his movements. “I know. Of course, I know that. But he owed me, and now he's fucking dead so you’re the one that’s going to pay on that debt. So, I am going to fucking keep you and when the times comes, I’m going to be the one kill you. You don’t have anything waiting for you out there, and you know it.”
Finally, Dazai stills. He tries to formulate a response, but he's not stupid, and there's no denying the truth. Slowly, he nods, and from above him, Nakahara grins.

Summary
For my Soukoku, Dazai and Chuuya have a healthy relationship. When they first met, they got off on the wrong foot, and while they became attracted to each other very quickly, neither even allowed themselves to realize it, as their subconscious was trying to protect them from rejection and they disguised their feelings as antipathy. Once they reunited in the Port Mafia's prison, they recognized their long-suppressed feelings, and so they no longer had a reason to fight (in their personal lives).
So if you're into the kind of Soukoku where they have a very unhealthy, destructive relationship - the whole I hate you but I want you - you will NOT find it here.
This series is basically slice-of-life. It begins in the Port Mafia's prison, and because that goes differently, I diverge from canon fairly quickly afterward. Think of it as the butterfly effect. Changing Dazai & Chuuya's dynamic ends up affecting broader events to create an alternate timeline. So most things from chronologically subsequent arcs won't occur in this divergence.
