Flushed, Petal Pink, Coquette, Blushing Nude…
All reliable shades.
All the best of the best.
All timeless classics.
Not once had they let her down in a situation. Each had faithfully held their ground through countless recitals, Miss Oz Pageants, Bojutsu tournaments, spontaneous plans, her first day at Shiz…
Yet, every tried and true shade in her vast arsenal of beauty paints, rouges, and glosses had failed.
Not one shade had stood against today’s trial. Her most important endeavor to date to be sure.
Galinda let out a tiny huff of frustration as she leaned back against the headboard. Her small compact mirror reflected the smeared shade of Push Up Pink around the corners of her lips.
This just would not do.
How was she supposed to carry on throughout her day with a less than perfect lip maquillage firmly in place? Anything could happen! Larena Upland instilled many lessons in her daughter; the most prominent being that an Upper Upland lady must be primped, primed, pretty, and prepared at all times.
There were no two ways around it then.
She would need to go shopping. The ladies at Exquisitist were experts in their craft; no event too small, no crisis too big.
They would know what to do in a critical situation such as this.
And she would of course need to bring Elphie along to thoroughly assess the validity of each luxury cosmetic.
Fixing what was left of her lipstick, Galinda vexed, “I can’t believe we haven't found one lipstick that is kiss proof! You must be getting awfully bored with this experiment.”
Elphie had been a surprisingly good sport about this whole study.
Which was just as well, since she was the whole reason Galinda needed to get creative in the first place.
It had all begun that very afternoon.
Elphaba had been nothing but unreasonably difficult the whole day; nose thoroughly buried in her books, refusing to be moved, provoked, or swayed from her spot.
Naturally, come evening, Galinda was left feeling utterly forsaken.
She glared menacingly across the room at the books, papers, and pens scattered across her girlfriend’s bed. She would not be upstaged by a collection of inferior objects any longer.
Elphie just needed a bigger, brighter, pinker distraction.
Swift as a thunderbolt, Galinda bolted upright, softly gasping. She knew exactly what to do!
Dashing to her vanity, Galinda quickly unwrapped a purchase she had made several weeks ago on a shopping expedition with Pfannee and Shenshen. It had been an impulsive, slightly risque purchase that her aristocratic mother could never lay eyes on.
A lipstick that had raised more than one set of eyebrows when she had tried it on at the beauty parlor.
It had been unexpectedly…thrillifying.
Galinda gently cradled the little tuck box. It was beautiful. The antique lace pattern proudly stood out against the vivid pink background while a black rose cameo clasp held the opening flap in place.
Provocator was printed in a delicate, loopy calligraphy across the bottom.
Without further ado, Galinda opened the box, uncapped the shade and applied it to her lips.
It was a daring, metallic candy pink that she knew would draw the attention of her studious roommate.
The bright hue was bolder than any makeup Galinda typically wore, but bold was exactly what she was aiming for.
Something to catch the eye and make it linger.
Satisfied with her application, Galinda slowly sashaed her way across the room, propped her hip against her girlfriend’s bed and put on her best, distressed voice.
“Elphie? Elphie, I need your help. I’m quite distressed.”
Without even raising her eyes from her book, Elphaba plainly inquired, “What’s wrong?”
Galinda gave a small huff of indignation, but carried on, “My new dawn-to-dark lipstick, dearest.”
Eyes remaining glued to her book, Galinda was again met with the same, indifferent voice, “What’s wrong with your lipstick?”
The blonde exasperated, “It states that it is kiss proof, but I can not attest to the validity of such a statement as it regrettably remains untested.” The packaging had made no such claims, but that wasn’t important.
“That is unfortunate,” replied Elphaba as she aggressively highlighted something in her book.
Galinda was positively at her wit’s end.
She firmly stamped her foot and dramatically slid onto the bed with a small huff of indignation. Crawling quickly across the disorganized pile of literature and stationary, she planted herself right in front of her distracted roommate.
Galinda placed her hand firmly over the open pages of the book sitting in Elphaba’s lap, “Elphaba, I implore your assistance with this problem.” Her voice had taken on a high pitched, desperate tone.
She could see the corner of Elphaba’s eye twitch in slight irritation behind her glasses, but her gaze finally, finally , rose up to look at the blonde directly in front of her.
Her reaction was everything Galinda had hoped. Immediately, Elphie’s eyes latched on to her lips, her jaw dropped, and her eyes comically widened.
Galinda inwardly preened at her success.
Feeling more daring, she parted her lips modestly while Elphie continued to study them.
Galinda could see her face flush a darker shade of green while her emerald irises shrank slowly to narrow rings. Without looking away, Elphaba thickly swallowed, voice coarse, “What are you suggesting, my pretty?” Her chin tilted up as one hand lifted to rest gently across the expanse of her girlfriend’s hip, spreading her fingers wide.
Galinda could feel the soft dig of her beloved’s long nails grip possessively over her side.
Her breathing hitched; Elphaba’s thoroughly aroused expression caused a hot flame to ignite low in her abdomen. Heat crept over her cheeks and across her chest, painting her a more natural shade of pink.
Elphaba must have noticed because her other hand came up to firmly grasp Galinda’s chin, pulling her closer. Her sharp eye’s caught her lover’s and held them in her wicked web. In a low, unyielding voice she whispered, “I said what are you suggesting, my pet?”
Galinda almost melted on the spot.
The thought of willingly submitting was as tempting as honey. For a moment she longed to be led; to be guided to a satisfying close by long fingers and a dominant voice.
Yet…
Inwardly, Galinda shook her head. Now was not the time to lose the upper hand that she had fought for all afternoon. She was at the helm of this ship and would not relinquish control passively.
With more authority than she felt, she matched her girlfriend’s stare and directly stated, “I propose an evaluation.”
Elphaba paused at her tone, eyeing her closely. Galinda briefly wondered if she would concede, but after a clock tick, Elphaba relaxed her shoulders. She didn’t remove her hands from their position; clearly, she wanted to see where this was headed before retreating completely.
Clearing her throat, Galinda pressed on, “I wish to test my new lipstick to see if it is kiss proof. I do not want to incorporate it into my routine if it proves false. What if I see you outside of our dorm and desire to bestow a kiss? It could smear or fade and then I would be left in an unbecoming state.”
Elphaba only raised a single eyebrow.“That would be unacceptable,” she stated dryly.
At least Elphie could understand the seriousness of the situation.
“Precisely! Now, be agreeable Elphie, I need your full attention and engagement. That’s what makes a top-tier participant afterall!”
Without waiting for an answer, she unceremoniously pushed all of Elphaba’s belongings within her reach onto the floor.
Her girlfriend could only give a short cry of protest before Galinda pounced.
Quick as a lynx she pushed her partner more firmly against the headboard, straddled her hips, and delicately cupped her cheeks before capturing her lips in a searing kiss.
Galinda wasn’t gentle. She had meant to be, honest, but Elphie had wound her tighter than a wrist watch and she had little patience left. She nipped harshly at her lower lip, then led her into a deep kiss that left them both having to catch their breath by the end. Galinda was not done though. She went in a second time, gliding her lips smoothly over her lover’s mouth and dipped her tongue down to slide between dark jade lips.
Elphaba let out a small whine which sent an electric spark straight down Galinda’s spine. Doubling her efforts, she pushed her front more firmly against Elphaba’s chest and brought her hand up to grip the back of her girlfriend’s bun. As her kisses became more sharp and desperate Galinda couldn’t contain her own low moan. Her legs clenched tight around Elphaba’s slender hips and her breath felt heavy in her chest.
She knew this was getting slightly out of hand, but Elphie wasn’t playing fair.
At the start of the experiment, Elphaba had placed her hands at Galinda’s waist, not quite pushing down, but holding her firmly in place. Ever so slowly, her hands had begun to slide up and down her rib cage, tugging her closer, content to let her lover lead until Galinda had given her a partially sharp nip.
Now, Elphaba’s hands slid all the way back, caressing her posterior while she gently encouraged her to rock her hips.
Galinda felt like she was caught in an intense dust whirl. Her thoughts and resolve fiercely tossed about as she spun around in the vortex that was Elphaba.
Events were once again swiftly spiraling out of control. Her control was slipping away like sand in an hourglass.
If Elphie sensed weakness she would immediately stage a coup.
Kicking herself into gear, Galinda slid her hands down and dug her nails hard into Elphaba’s shoulders as she extracted herself.
The sight before her almost made her lean back in and finish what she started.
Her brazen hot pink lipstick was smeared across her lover’s dark mouth, leaving a bright shimmer against her green skin. The contrast was quite pleasing. Galinda leaned forward and nuzzled Elphie’s nose with her own, stroking her thumbs loveling over her cheeks.
Elphaba stared back at her like she hung the stars in the night sky.
After a moment, the green witch took a deep breath, then raised a single eyebrow, “That’s your definition of “bestowing a kiss” outside of our dorm? I feel as if I have been ravaged. The student body will be positively scandalized, my sweet.”
Galinda tossed her hair back, “Nonsense, I am merely being thorough, darling. Besides the lipstick did not pass inspection, therefore I can not bestow my affections in public with this shade. No matter! I have one that will work perfectly!”
Galinda swept over Elphaba to her vanity where she selected a beloved shade that had never let her down. She eagerly applied it before sailing back to Elphie on the bed.
Her girlfriend wore a small smile, amusement coloring her voice, “Shall I make-ready for this trial? The last was quite…unpredictable.”
The blonde huffed loudly and pecked Elphie on the cheek before she could say another word. She opened her mouth to suggest dinner and an evening walk around the school grounds before continuing where they had left off, but was abruptly taken aback.
There, on Elphie’s green cheek, was a pink satin kiss mark.
Galinda narrowed her eyes.
That had…never happened.
She stared at the mark until Elphie spoke up, “Is something amiss, my love?” Galinda tilted her head, “It left a mark.” She couldn’t wrap her head around it. How could this have happened? Her collection was the finest. Every type and shade undefeated…until today.
Elphaba chuckled, “Naturally, my sweet. Lip rouge is meant to adhere to lips, some transfer is expected when friction occurs.”
Galinda barely listened as she descended on her makeup collection. There had to be one lipstick, stain, gloss, oil, or cream that was kiss proof! She gathered a handful and settled herself back onto Elphie’s lap. With stern precision she applied the color and kissed her girlfriend’s forehead.
Another kiss mark.
It spun her into a flurry of steadfast determination. She must have a true transfer proof lipstick! Not all could fail!
Elphaba seemed slightly startled, but remained completely still. It was good to see that she was taking this seriously.
Galinda uncapped her collection and got to work.
Some time later, Galinda leaned back against the headboard and made the necessary decision to visit Exquisitist with Elphaba.
While the study had unveiled a major defect in her lipstick repertoire, it had proven to be a most pleasurable recreation activity.
Elphie was reclining against the headboard next to her, glasses skewed, with a far off dreamy look on her face.
She was covered forehead to neck in a colorful array of pink kiss marks.
More than a little satisfied with herself Galinda gloated, “I believe we have reached the conclusion of this evaluation, dearest. Much to your delight I imagine as you can now resume focusing on your studies.”
Elphie was quiet for a moment as she glanced lazily over to the cluttered vanity.
She pointed to a pile of discarded lip glosses, “I don’t think you tried that one yet. And in order to collect sufficient data we must be thorough. Otherwise the analysis will be skewed, my sweet.”
Galinda smirked wickedly as she reached for the pink lip shade.
