    Superman had finally had enough. It had been far too long for him to not reveal his identity. He decided to commit to outing himself to the Justice League despite the objections of the ever cautious Batman. Little did Clark know, Batman wasn't nearly as opposed as he seemed and even had a secret of his own to share.

    Unfortunately for Clark, everything went wrong as soon as it looked like his best friend was starting to open up. First it was a media frenzy, then Batman's weird behavior, then Bruce Wayne's ridiculous antics, and finally a dangerous villainous plot. Clark was sure that he would never learn Batman's identity after everything turned into a complete disaster.

    In a deviation from expectations, Clark and Bruce meet for the first time not as Superman and Batman, and not as reporter and billionaire business owner, but as some version of themselves somewhere in the middle of all their respective identities.

    Clark nods, pushes his glasses back into place, smiles. It's sweet. It's comfortable. Bruce feels a sense of peace — there's no need to rush this. He steals one last kiss, then walks back to his car.

    He remembers to text Clark later, when he's back at the manor and before patrol, letting him know he made it home safe and wishing him a good night.

    He sees Clark again, unplanned, unexpected, Saturday night.

    After the Rift, Clark keeps moving. He's a bit lonely, a bit less trusted than he was before, a bit optimistic about a budding new friendship - relationship? He's determined not to mess things up, but he will. Things never work out just right. Meanwhile, Bruce throws caution to the wind and lets someone in for a change. He thinks it's fine, until he makes eye contact with him from across the room and feels the cool knife of betrayal slide between his ribs. It only gets more complicated from there.
