Glitteringly Glamously Green

Summary:

Galinda is positively beside herself with excitement when Elphie allows her to spend a whole evening glamourizing her with dazzling eyeshadow colors.

Notes:

Try saying the title 5 times fast...🙄

And… we’re back. I wasn't expecting to add to the world of Color Me Pink, My Sweet, but Galinda wouldn't leave me alone. Her eyeshadow collection needed a shout-out.

You do not need to read Color Me Pink, My Sweet to know what's going on, but if you like this story then I would recommend reading it after this.

Work Text:

Galinda was positively vibrating with unbridled excitement.

Everything was in place.

All colors laid out in preparation.

All blending brushes and shaders ready at their mark.

Eyeliners and mascaras formed an unbreakable formation line across her vanity. Only six of each were laid out. Simplicity seemed the best course of action to take in this situation. She didn’t want to overburden Elphie with choices.

But even she admitted she could not hold back with the eyeshadow.

Beautiful blues, stunning violets, enchanting golds. It was all simply too much for Galinda to contain herself.

She twirled around the room in anticipation. Elphie would be back any minute. No doubt anxious to see what Galinda had devised.

Galinda knew things like this weren’t Elphie’s cup of tea so she had doubled her efforts to make their dorm especially inviting and comfortable this evening.

She had vigorously fluffed the pillows, kindled the fire, and meticulously polished her vanity and cosmetic tools. Fresh Asiatic lilies in antique white vases sat on either side of her bed, overflowing with color.

Two ornate potpourri jars filled with cedar chips, ginger, cinnamon, and dried orange slices were set in precise locations in the room for maximum fragrance.

She had even taken some of Elphie’s favorite books that her girlfriend kept in scrupulous order on her shelf and placed them in neat stacks next to the flowers to make her feel at ease.

Galinda had truly outdone herself.

She knew the importance of this moment. This would be a special moment between her and her beloved. One of utmost trust and respect. This was her wheelhouse after all.

Elphie couldn’t have been in better hands.

Galinda had practically sailed over the moon when Elphaba allowed her to spend a whole evening glamorizing her with Galinda’s impressive collection of dazzling eyeshadow colors and pigments.

She almost couldn’t believe it. A whole eve of experimenting with various eyeshadows, designs, and techniques on her Elphie.

Inspiration was practically bursting from every fiber of her being.

It had been all she could think about for weeks.

Everything started the night they slipped away to the Ozdust with the rest of Shiz to celebrate the end of the semester. Galinda had been unexpectedly, but enchantingly starstruck. On stage a tall, dark chanteuse had started a dynamic, fast-paced melody.

The band behind her changed pace at her every whim, while the floor pulsed with the rhythm of the beat she led. Everyone was twirling, clapping, and stopping to her relentless tempo. The air vibrated with energy that consumed the whole ballroom.

Her voice was velvety and spellbinding; her dress was layers upon layers of creamy foam. Yet, the only detail that ensnared Galinda’s attention was the woman’s intense eyepaint.

The vocalist had painted the base of her eyelid and brow ridge a deep, vibrant green, almost the same shade as Elphie. Around the edges were blended purples and pinks that did not overpower the green, but complemented it.

A bright blue streak swirled around the eye and under it, a sharp, bold eyeliner wing created an intense contrast.

Once Galinda had caught sight of this masterpiece, she was immediately dumbstruck and stood in front of the stage, mouth agape. She must have been making an absolute spectacle of herself because the woman smirked and winked right at her.

She only snapped out of it when Elphie came up behind her, wrapping her arms tightly around her midriff and purring directly in her ear, “Should I be jealous?” before sharply nipping the top of Galinda’s ear.

The blonde’s obsession only solidified when she picked up the latest issue of Marvelous Elegance and saw a spread dedicated to an Emerald City makeup artist who used a base green for all her eyeshadow designs. The effect was stunning.

Galinda wanted to try them all immediately.

She took to staring at Elphie throughout the day, imagining what she would look like in each style and color.

It was a secret she kept close to her chest though. She didn’t want Elphie to be of the opinion that she needed eyeshadow to be bewitchingly beautiful. No, she would not dare breathe a word of her heart’s desire.

Days later, with her beloved periodical open on her lap, Galinda was utterly lost in her musings when Elphie’s voice broke through the clouds of her daydream.

“For the love of Oz, what is going on?”

Galinda slowly refocused on Elphie’s face. She looked slightly miffed.

“Hmm? What was that, dearest?”

“You've been gazing at me for the better part of an hour and you have yet to move,” Elphaba stated.

As nonchalantly as Galinda could muster, she replied, “Yes, of course everything is well, darling. I was merely admiring your entrancing verdigris. It really is a lovely shade.” Galinda became swept up in her imaginings once again, her voice taking on a distant, airy tone, “Quite versatile some might say.”

Elphaba raised a single distinct eyebrow; clearly she wasn’t buying it. “You have done little but stare at me and dramatically sigh.”

Galinda sat up straighter, tossed her hair back, and huffed indignantly, “I have not been ‘dramatically sighing.’”

Elphaba had clearly reached the end of her rope. She wasted no time in walking directly over to Galinda on the settee. The blonde was settled on the end, lounging against the arm. Elphaba planted herself right next to her, leaving not a hair's breadth between them and stuck out her arm to prevent her girlfriend from escaping.

Imprisoned, Galinda tsked disapprovingly and turned her head in defiance.

She could feel the weight of Elphaba’s hard stare, but refused to give in to such behavior.

It seemed they had reached a stalemate. An impasse. A deadlock. Both women could be exceedingly stubborn. Who knows when an accord might be reached?

Elphaba valiantly held her ground. She was still as a statue and her gaze remained unbroken. Galinda wagered she wasn't even blinking.

The tension was tighter than an elastic being pulled taut.

Galinda began to squirm under its pressure.

She felt like steam trying to escape a boiling tea kettle.

Unable to tolerate it a second longer, she snapped, “You are certainly in a confrontational mood today, Elphaba Thropp!”

She could hear amusement coloring Elphaba’s voice, “And you are being quite the little snit.”

Gasping, Galinda whipped her head around to give a tart reply. Yet, before she could speak, Elphaba quickly snatched her chin and leaned in closely.

“Out with it now, my love,” she demanded.

Galinda snapped her mouth shut and averted her eyes. She couldn’t possibly! What if Elphaba became distressed? What if she thought Galinda preferred her to wear makeup? Every possibility ran through her head, each more wild than the last. She could feel the pinprick of tears forming at the corner of her eyes.

After several clock ticks, Elphaba sighed and loosened her grip. She spoke tenderly, “Look at me, Galinda.”

Galinda was powerless this time to refuse her and slowly met Elphaba’s emerald eyes.

Where she expected to find frustration, there was only warm affection.

Elphaba brushed her cheek lovingly with her thumb, “You will feel much better once you unburden yourself, my sweet. I know something has been occupying your mind these past few weeks.”

Anxiety rolled through her; she could feel her heart trying to beat out of her chest.

Elphaba laid her forehead gently against Galinda’s brow, “Please,” she whispered.

“Iwishtoglamorizeyouwitheyeshadow!” Galinda shouted.

They stared at each other in silence.

Elphaba blinked at her, stunned into speechlessness. Galinda sniffed and hung her head in shame.

After a clock tick, Elphaba asked, “I beg your pardon?”

Like apples escaping a basket, it all tumbled out.

Galinda confessed everything.

“In my periodical.” She handed it over for Elphaba to see.

Elphaba stared at the article and picture, her face a perfect mask of neutrality.

Galinda continued, “The makeup is so beautiful. I’ve been daydreaming about how it would look on you. It has been my most heartfelt wish to see you in all of these amazifying designs.”

“I can see why you’ve been staring now.”

“I always stare at you,” Galinda muttered back.

Green lips rose into an easy smile. “More so than usual, my sweet.”

She finally raised her eyes to meet Galinda’s teary gaze. “So you want to give me a makeover…again?”

“Yes!” Now that the proverbial beans had been spilled, Galinda struggled to contain her excitement.

Elphaba chuckled, “Why didn’t you say anything before?”

Galinda blushed deeply and looked away.

Elphaba gently reached out and carefully turned Galinda’s head back toward her. She didn’t even have to say anything, just gave her stubborn blonde a loving look.

The green witch had to lean forward as Galinda confessed in a small whisper, “I…I just didn’t want you to think I only see you as beautiful when you’re wearing makeup.”

Elphaba threw her head back as she roared with laughter.

Lovingly exasperated, she cradled Galinda’s stunned face in both hands and smiled as brightly as the North Star over Gillikin.

“Galinda, of all the beings in Oz, I know your heart the best and it is filled with nothing but goodness. Besides, it is my heart’s desire to see you content.”

With tears in her eyes, the pink witch held her breath for an agonizing clock tick.

“I’ll do it.”

Galinda let loose a cheer of triumph!

Elphaba jerked back at the banshee scream, but Galinda refused to let her retreat and climbed on top of her, sealing the deal with a passionate kiss.

✧・゚: *✧・゚:*

She had started preparing hours ago. The anticipation had been too much for her to contain at lunch. Eating quickly, she dashed away leaving Elphie and the others behind to entertain themselves.

Galinda paused in her activity to mentally check things off her list.

Makeup, brushes, flowers …music! Bounding over to the phonograph she selected one of Elphie’s favorite vinyl albums, “Flying Bluebirds” by The Dizzie Dreamers.

Just in the nick of time as Elphaba turned the doorknob and entered the room.

Elphie closed the door then immediately paused when she surveyed the room. The corner of her mouth quirked up in amusement. “Have I misunderstood something, my sweet? I thought you wanted to glamorize me? Unless that is one of your more… colorful euphemisms?”

Galinda’s cheeks flushed rosy. “Certainly not, dearest! I only wished for you to be as relaxed as possible.”

Elphaba’s eyes glinted mischievously in the lamplight as she dropped her voice low, “Very well, where do you want me?”

Her voice was laden with suggestion, which on any other evening Galinda would happily indulge, but she had waited too long for this night.

Pleasure would come later, but right now the show must go on!

As though addressing a large audience, Galinda made a wide sweeping motion with her arm, “Make ready Elphie and change into something more comfortable. I want you completely at ease. Be prepared to be dazzled!”

Elphie gave her a saucy wink, “As you wish,” and disappeared into the bathroom.

Galinda bustled around excitedly until Elphie was ready for the evening. Once she was finished, Galinda beckoned her over and proudly showcased her collection like a prized gallerist displaying a priceless collection.

“What speaks to you most, dearest? A neutral selection? Warm tones with a matte finish? Perhaps a bold satin?”

Elphaba’s eyes slightly widened as she took in all the different colors, tools, and cosmetics laid before her. She was most certainly out of her depth.

She cleared her throat, “Whatever you think would be best, my sweet.”

Galinda beamed with delight, “I know just the thing! Now, lay down and leave all the work to me!”

Elphaba made herself comfortable on the bed while Galinda chose a bright color palette with a gold eyeliner. Elphaba startled as Galinda hopped on the bed and straddled her waist.

Once she settled, Elphaba gave her a sultry look.

“I didn’t realize such intimacy was necessary for application,” she smirked. “I would have suggested a makeover sooner.” The green witch slowly dragged her nails up Galinda’s thigh and under her thin, lacy chemise.

Before she could advance further, Galinda swatted her hand and gave her a stern glare, “Behave, darling!”

Elphaba chuckled, “But you look quite ravishing, sweetling; especially from this angle.”

Galinda paid her no mind as she laid her trusted magazine next to her. She squeezed out some eyeshadow primer, but before starting, she made direct eye contact, “Be prepared to be amazed!”

“Do with me what you will, my beauty.”

Galinda gleefully dove in.

She started strong with dramatic effects. Loopy swirls, bright colors, sharp eyeliners. After every fantastical design, Galinda squealed and held up a looking glass. Elphie raised her eyebrows several times. This clearly wasn’t her field of expertise, but she made every effort to encourage and please Galinda where she could.

“Your…blending looks professional.”

“I never would have thought to put those colors together.”

“What a bold design, my love. I think I’m ready for The Emerald Stage.”

Galinda outshone the sun itself with the amount of joy she radiated.

“Thank you! I went with the Wonderful Witchy Witch Whirl in Plum Passion this time!”

As time went on, Galinda switched to something more subtle. Not her style, but more towards Elphie’s. A pat here, a circular motion there. Delicate mascara with a thin border of eyeliner. A pinch of glitter. This time, when Elphie observed herself she didn’t look taken aback. Her face looked contemplative. Galinda looked at her hopefully.

Still looking in the mirror, Elphie murmured gently, “I..like it.”

Galinda beamed.

“I’ve got one more to try, dearest. You are performing like a dream!”

Methodically, she applied the last motif, then held up the looking glass.

Once again, Elphaba looked surprisingly pleased.

Several days later, Galinda sat in class waiting for Elphaba.

Her girlfriend had begged a clock tick before joining her and took off down the hall.

Class was about to start when Elphie slipped through the door and sat down next to her.

Galinda glanced over and smiled, then did an abrupt double take.

Gobsmacked, she let out an audible gasp.

A touch of mascara gave definition to the shape of Elphaba’s beautiful eyes and above them was a delicate shimmer of gold glitter.

Elphaba smirked and gave her a mischievous wink.
