I’ll cross that bridge (if it ever comes)

Work Text:

To Tubbo- death is the legacy that you leave behind.

Tubbo’s legacy is weird. It’s twisted, it’s dark, it’s happy, it’s light. His legacy is a lot of things.

He was a best friend who couldn’t stop the inevitable, then a broken inventor who couldn’t turn back time. He was a boy, then he was a man, then he was something in between. Tubbo has walked hand in hand with death and destruction, and he’d dare to call them old friends.

Tubbo’s legacy- Tubbo’s story. It’s a little bit sad. A little bit tragic.

He’s come to realize that he doesn’t really mind that.

He’s met friends, fought heroes, and played the game of fate with the Universe.

And sure, he lost people along the way. Wonderful, kind, people. But he’s still pretty sure that he wouldn’t change a thing about his legacy.

A legacy is a funny thing. It’s what’s left behind. Tubbo’s seen people shatter over the idea of a legacy, and he can’t really fault them for it. They just want to be remembered.

What does Tubbo want to be remembered for?

He wants to be remembered as a friend. He wants people to smile when they think of him, or to laugh about something he did. Should he ever die (he won’t, but he can imagine) he hopes that they’ll still love him.

He hopes that they won’t let him fade away into the dark.

—--------------------

Foolish fears Death. It’s stupid he knows, when he quite literally cannot die.

Then again, he is life itself. And maybe it’s part of life to be afraid of Death, to be afraid of the grand journey that follows one’s final breaths.

Foolish is haunted by death. He doesn’t like to think about it, though he wishes that he could.

But he can’t. He’s sure he’ll have to face it eventually. If not for himself, then for another.

But again, Foolish is life. He stands on the other side of the styx from death, staring out over dark water, waiting for the day that he will fall in. A metaphor of course, though one that holds truth. And truth is perhaps the only thing more powerful than life.

To say that an immortal isn’t affected by death is a cruel thing. If anything, an immortal experiences more death than anyone else.

Foolish himself dies inside every time he outlives a friend. Every time that he finds himself at someone's bedside, tears in his eyes.

So maybe it’s stupid. Maybe it’s not. Foolish has never feared Death because of himself- he’s only feared her because of those around him.

—---------------

Death doesn’t mean much to BadBoyHalo. He is, afterall, immortal, and therefore immune to Death’s touch.

Though that’s not to say that Bad doesn’t grieve. He grieves when he loses a friend, a mortal, a person who is so vulnerable to Death, and the world beyond this one. He grieves when the Universe seems to have gone dark, and he’s the only one left.

Maybe remembering is something that he owes to those people that he’s lost.

So if Bad wasn’t immortal, and if he did have a legacy-

He supposes he’d want to be remembered as a man who tried his hardest. As someone who suffered through the depths of despair and darkness- and survived. And as someone who really did care. Despite the fact that he doesn’t always act like he does.

Bad knows that he is lucky, in a way. Foolish and Tubbo are both immortal.

The three of them will have each other, when it really comes down to it. And if for some strange reason- if for some strange reason one of them does die-

Bad will travel to the edges of the Universe if that's what it takes to get them back.
