Face The Music

Summary:

Taking some time to psyche herself up, Barbie goes with her father to meet Fizz for a much needed talk. But while Fizz is still at rehearsal, Barbie gets out a lot of what she needed in front of Fizz's boyfriend Asmodeus.

Notes:

Sorry it took a bit to get to this one. But I figured when Barbie goes to talk to Fizz, she probably wouldn't want to go alone so she's bringing her dad with her. Plus Cash can keep her from running off since I think that's Barbie's biggest issue. She doesn't want to face her past because it brings back so many bad memories that she'd rather run from it than face it. But with her brother's almost demise, she realizes very quickly she can't keep running.

Even if it's hard, she'll do what she can to try and make things right.

For Cash's part, he does want to try and support his daughter while also making sure that Fizz doesn't want to kill her (or him) for what happened all those years ago. He did already have his talk with Fizz but seeing both him and Barbie there might be hard on the little guy. I also wanted Cash and Ozzie to have a conversation about the progress that's going to come for the second trial they're going to try and prepare for. Let's just say a comment from Cash will give Ozzie inspiration on what might give them an edge for this second trial.

And for some needed levity, him being amused at Ozzie's suggestive decor just seems like something he would do.

For Ozzie's part, I want him to be a lot more fair to Fizz's surrogate family. Satan's way of just punishing without really listening really bothered him. And since he knows Fizz was able to make nice with Blitz and Cash, he's willing to hear Barbie out and give her advice when she needs it. He can tell she really feels bad about what happened and I think respects she has the guts to try and face everything.

Oh and Peaches is the name of the succubus that appeared in Ozzie's penthouse when she interrupted the smoochie time with Fizz and Ozzie at the beginning of Oops.

Chapter 1: Meeting the Boyfriend

Chapter Text

Barbie groaned as she trudged to Ozzie’s factory with her dad. She knew that Fizz would most likely be with Ozzie at his place of work. Or, if he wasn’t, Ozzie would know where he was. Cash seemed fairly confident that Fizz would be there but Barbie, for a lot of her bluster, was having doubts.

“Dad are you sure about this?” Barbie questioned.

“Hey it’s the best lead we’ve got.” He reasoned, opening the door to the factory. “And from what Fizzy told me, Ozzie ain’t anything like that bastard Mammon. He’ll probably listen to us.”

“If he doesn’t torch our asses…” Barbie mumbled.

Cash met with the incubus at the front desk, saying they had an appointment to meet with Lord Asmodeus. He typed something on his computer before pressing a button on his intercom, letting Ozzie know that they were here. He then told the duo to take a seat, saying his boss would meet them shortly.

Cash sat with Barbie in the comfortable chairs, placing a hand on her shaking shoulder. “It’s gonna be okay, kiddo.” He assured her.

“I hope you’re right…” Barbie sighed, placing a hand on top of her dad’s hand. Even with things still being awkward, she was glad her dad was here.

Much to Cash’s relief, it seemed like the King of Lust could actually get through meetings without letting his clients wait. Sloth would take for-fucking-ever for appointments made ages in advance. Even then, they barely had anything to pass the time, only out of date magazines and a TV that played one boring-ass show.

Someone seriously needed to tell Belphegor how to update the entertainment in her waiting rooms.

It only took about 30 minutes before Ozzie’s succubus assistant came out and called their names. She beckoned for them to follow her and they did. Cash was looking around at all the…rather suggestive decor in the building. He was grinning at all the jokes he could make from seeing the dirty things surrounding him. It was hysterical and maybe it was immature but Lust had to have a sense of humor with a bunch of dicks and boobs around.

Barbie normally would find a lot of this funny—inheriting her dad’s immature sense of humor—but right now she was just nervous. If Fizz was upset with her for what she did, who’s to say his boyfriend wouldn’t be as well? If Fizz said to, Ozzie could barbecue her behind and boot her out onto the rainy streets of Lust.

Frankly, she wouldn’t blame him.

“I-I don’t know if I can do this.” Barbie confessed, stopping in the middle of the hallway. “You can talk to Asmodeus and Fizz. I’ll go wait in the lobby.”

“Now Miss, I understand it’s intimidating meeting a Sin but Lord Asmodeus is a fair demon.” The succubus reassured the young imp.

“Barb it’s gonna be okay.” Cash promised, guiding her to Ozzie’s office. “Just take some deep breaths and it’ll be fine.”

Barbie was tempted to cut and run but the doors opened, revealing the sin himself.

“Ah right on time. Thank you, Peaches. I’ll take it from here.” Ozzie told the succubus.

Peaches bowed before flying off, leaving Cash and Barbie in the doorway.

“Well don’t just stand there. Please come in.” Ozzie told them, guiding them to some squishy armchairs. Once they were seated, he offered them a bowl of candy. “Help yourselves.”

Cash happily took a handful of candy and stuffing it in his mouth but Barbie seemed hesitant. “Uh dad? Did you look at the candy before eating it?” She questioned.

Cash looked down and saw the candy was also rather…suggestive but he just shrugged and kept chewing. “Candy is candy, Barb. Don’t matter what it looks like.” He told her.

“I’ve always had a bit of a sweet tooth.” Ozzie chimed in. “I like providing my clients and visitors with a little indulgence.”

Barbie watched as he plucked a piece of candy from the bowl before letting out a sigh. Maybe eating something would help calm her nerves. She picked a piece out before popping it in her mouth, glad it was raspberry flavored.

“So, what can I do for y’all today?” Ozzie asked.

“Well, I know Fizz probably told you about me but this is about my daughter, Barbie Wire.” Cash began, placing a hand on her shoulder.

Barbie gulped as the much taller demon looked down at her. He didn’t look angry but he looked rather serious. What was going through his mind right now? Would he yell at her?

“So you’re the last of the Imp Circus Trio, eh?” He commented. At her nod he gave her a friendly smile. “Well glad to finally put a face to a name! Name’s Asmodeus but you can call me Ozzie.” He told her, offering his hand to shake.

Barbie cautiously took it, surprised at how warm his hand was. She never expected a Sin to be so…friendly.

“T-Thank you, your majesty.” She nodded, letting go and putting her hand back in her lap.

“So what brings ya by? I’m pretty sure this ain’t just a family visit and I don’t think you’re here for a job.” Ozzie mused before correcting himself. “I mean, if you’re looking I can find something if you’re open to it.”

“Oh no no! It’d be great to work here but I’d probably get fired for making too many bad sex jokes!” Cash laughed before clearing his throat. “No we’re here because—”

“Because I’ve gotta talk to Fizz!” Barbie blurted out before clamping a hand over her own mouth.

Ozzie raised an eyebrow at her outburst. He had gotten a cliff note version of Fizz’s conversation with Blitz and his surrogate father so he knew what happened after that fire. He was shocked what his Fizzy-frog went through because of them. This Cash guy seemed to have regretted what he had done and Barbie…looked like she felt guilty for her actions. If this had been a few centuries back, he would’ve blasted their behinds out of his office. But since they were close to Fizz, he wanted to reserve judgment until they spoke their piece and Fizz got a chance to hear her out.

Maybe this made him soft in Mammon and Satan’s eyes but he couldn’t give a rat’s ass what they thought.

“I see. Well Fizz is at rehearsal at the moment.” Ozzie replied, pulling up his phone. “I’ll let him know you’re here so he can stop by afterwards. He usually heads back to the penthouse but I don’t think he’ll mind stopping by here.”

‘I’m not so sure about that…’ Barbie thought to herself as Ozzie put his phone on speaker. It beeped a few times before Fizz’s voice came through the phone.

“Hi Ozzie!”

“Hey Fizzy-froggy!” Ozzie cooed. “I’m sorry for interrupting your rehearsal.”

“Oh I always have time for you~!”

Cash snickered at the mushy talk Fizz and his boyfriend were cooing at each other. “Looks like he grew out of hating mushy love talk, eh?” He joked, nudging Barbie with his elbow.

“Y-Yeah…funny…” Barbie laughed weakly.

“So what’s the sudden phone call for? Did ya miss my sexy voice that much?”

“Oh you know I’ll always miss hearing you in person.” Ozzie teased before clearing his throat. “But I did have a reason for calling. You’ve got two guests I’m entertaining and they wanna see you. You okay with that?”

“Sure! Who’s there?”

“Your old boss Cash Buckzo and your former troupe mate Barbie Wire.” Ozzie told him.

Fizz was silent for a few moments, only the sound of his deep breathing coming through the speaker. Eventually he spoke, though his tone was much more guarded.

“I’ll be there after I’m done. See you later.”

Ozzie let out a sigh as the phone hung up. He had a feeling Fizz wouldn’t exactly be thrilled about Barbie’s presence but this was something that needed to be addressed. If Fizz can be kidnapped with Blitz and work out their issues, he can certainly have a civil talk with Barbie. She must’ve been willing to admit her mistakes and apologize if she came all the way down here.

Even if she did look like she was about to barf.

“Fizz didn’t sound happy. Maybe I should come another day.” Barbie reasoned, trying to stand up. “Come on we can come back another day.”

“Sit.” Ozzie told her.

Barbie immediately sat down, Cash patting her shoulder to try and calm her down. “I…I’m sorry. I know I gotta do this…but I fucked up so bad…”

Feeling sympathy for her, Ozzie moved to sit in front of Barbie, taking her hand. “I know exactly how you’re feeling.” He told her gently. At her confused look, Ozzie let out a tired sigh. “I let Fizzy down when I couldn’t stand up against my fellow sins to help his friend. When Satan gets an idea in his mind, it is damned near impossible to make him change it. I was so scared he’d hate me…”

“That’s what I’m scared of…” Barbie admitted, looking down at the floor. “I was…so angry when I heard about the fire. I was angry at my brother for starting the fire…but I was more angry at myself for not being there…”

“Barb…” Cash whispered.

“I was still so fucked up in the head that—well, it just seemed easier to just blame Blitzo…” she sniffled. “I felt like shit enough but that…made me feel less shit, y’know?”

“I’m sure Fizz would at least understand that part of it.” The Sin tries to reason, flinching as Barbie began to cry.

“But I hurt him too…I lied saying Blitzo never came to see him and told my dad to keep Blitzo away…” Barbie hiccuped, taking a tissue from the side table and blowing her nose.

“Why would you do that?” Ozzie asked, no judgement in his voice.

“I really did think Blitzo tried to hurt Fizz and everyone else just got hurt by his own actions…” she went on before the guilt started to weigh on her. “But…I was also jealous.”

“Of what?”

Barbie looked into Ozzie’s green eyes, seeing a desire for an explanation and wanting to understand. “I was jealous of Fizz. When he became a part of the circus, him and Blitzo stuck together like glue.” She explained. “Practicing together, playing together, getting into trouble—”

“Lucifer knows those two could do that.” Cash piped in.

“They were really close. I knew Blitzo would always be my brother but it just made me feel…weird. Dad was looking out for mom when he wasn’t drinking or doing circus shit and Blitzo had Fizz…I felt like I was losing everyone…”

Cash immediately hugged his daughter, surprising her. “Barb I feel like such an idiot. I know I needed to look after your Mama and the circus and the two goons but I figured since you were more mature than the boys, you could handle things better. That wasn’t fair to you…I’m sorry, kiddo.” He told her, emotion in his voice as he felt his eye start to water.

Barbie hugged her dad back, burying her face in his shoulder. “I’m sorry too…I should’ve known better than to get on that crap…I acted like such a brat when things were already hard. I-I was just so stressed and when things went to double-Hell in a hand basket—”

“I think, if you tell Fizz exactly how you were feeling and why ya did what ya did, he’ll forgive you,” Ozzie assured her, gaining their attention.

Barbie straightened up, wiping her eyes and loudly blowing her nose in another tissue. It was strange but she felt a little better than before. Ozzie really was a good guy—she definitely approved of his relationship with Fizz—and she was glad her dad encouraged her to actually go through with this. It probably wasn’t going to be easy talking to Fizz face-to-face but she had to try.

“I think I’m ready for this. I promise I won’t run off. I’m tired of running.” Barbie told them.

“That’s my girl.” Cash smiled proudly.

“Good on ya, kid.” Ozzie nodded in approval. “Fizz can be a bit stubborn but he’s got a big heart. I think, even deep down, he’ll be glad to see you.”

“I hope so.” Barbie mused.

Unbeknownst to the demons in Ozzie’s office, Fizz had finished his rehearsal at the club early. He was pretty much finished with practice when Ozzie had called him. He was planning to start the jacuzzi when he got home so it would be nice and bubbly for his Oz after he got off work. But his former boss and troupe mate requesting his presence put a kink in that plan.

And not the fun kind.

While he was slowly getting used to Mr. Buckzo being in his life again, Fizz didn’t know what to think about Barbie. He was angry that she lied to him but he felt bad that she was hurting too. He wanted to yell at her for doing something crazy selfish…but seeing her cry in front of Ozzie made him want to run in there and give her a hug. All this bullshit was so complicated and messy but they had to deal with it.

And the hard shell he had around his heart about Barbie was starting to crack…just a little.

Chapter 2: Confrontations & Realizations

Summary:

While Fizz and Barbie catch up, Ozzie and Cash find they have a lot more to talk about.

Notes:

Thank you to AnimeToonzForever and ParkRyder525 for help with this one.

I wanted to give Cash and Ozzie a chance to talk first one on one since they've both messed up in the past. Cash for neglecting his kids to try and make things easier for his sick wife and Ozzie for not thinking why Stolas would cheat with an imp when he seemed to have a perfect life and being a hypocrite. They messed up but they're trying to learn from their mistakes. And I think what ParkRyder525 has said about the little deal between Paimon and Cash all those years ago, for as crappy as it was, still techinically a legally binding contract. If Paimon paid for Blitz to be the playmate of Stolas as kids, even for a day, that would technically have him be under the employment of the Goetia family. Which means that if Stolas says it's okay, Blitz using the Grimoire would be totally legal no matter how much Andrealphus would throw a hissy fit about it.

I'll go into that more in a later story.

For Fizzy I think overhearing what Barbie had told Ozzie would've softened him up to Barbie at least a little bit. He was still going to ream her out for what she unintentionally put him through. His feelings about her are complicated but since they weren't in a stressful situation like when he and Blitz got kidnapped by Crimson, he was more willing to talk things out. It's not 100% forgiveness yet but it's getting there. He really did miss her and was hurt she didn't even contact him after getting out of rehab.

Also for a bit of levity when Ozzie is showing Cash his new products, I made some references to these old Buzzfeed videos where they look at some very silly lingerie and edibles. Cash appreciates sexy stuff since his wife enjoyed doing that stuff with him but there's stuff even he would just question like "how is that supposed to be sexy?"

As for Barbie needing to fight Blitz, I'm going by how Sallie May and Millie were able to work out their issues through having a fight on the roof of the IMP building. They did talk beforehand and the fight was fairly playful but I think for Barbie and Blitz, they would need to lay everything out while fighting. Barbie has a lot of unresolved feelings about everything that happened and if they can spar, that'll help get everything out without her being ready to explode. Blitz, while he would be reluctant at first, I think he'd need this as well since he would be frustrated by everything that's happened and hurt that Barbie ever thought he would intentionally hurt their mother like that.

Kind of like the fight Steven and Amethyst had in Steven Universe.

Chapter Text

“Ahem?”

Everyone turned to see Fizz standing in the doorway of Ozzie’s office. Ozzie immediately went to greet him, Cash keeping a hand on his daughter’s shoulder to keep her calm. Barbie hadn’t seen Fizz since her mom’s funeral. He had never pretty much gone to work for Mammon right after and Barbie only got one day out from rehab to attend. It was small with only the family—sans Blitzo—and a few former circus performers who were close to Tilla. She didn’t deserve to go out like that.

Fifteen years could change a lot.

“Fizzy! How was practice?” Ozzie asked, giving his boyfriend a hug.

Fizzy hugged Ozzie, giving him a warm smile. “It went pretty well. I think the new dancers have a lot of potential. Though one is dancing more with their arms than anything.” Fizz joked, stretching arms and wiggling them around, making the taller demon laugh.

“Well I’m sure you’ll teach them how not to dance like a car dealership balloon tube guy.” Ozzie chuckled before moving aside. “Don’t worry. I kept these two entertained.”

Fizz looked to Mr. Buckzo, giving him a smile as he walked up to him. “Good seeing you again, sir.” He told him, smiling as his former boss/guardian gave him a hug. “Hey glad you could see us Fizzy-boy.” Cash grinned, patting his back before letting go. “This ain’t a problem for ya, right?”

Fizz looked down to Barbie, seeing she couldn’t exactly look him in the eye. She hadn’t changed too much since the funeral aside from a few more tattoos and a crossed out mark over her head tattoo. It was interesting to the robotic imp that each of the circus trio had dealt with this part of their past. Fizz kept the mark unchanged, only hiding it under his hat because he felt self conscious about his injuries. Blitz changed the look of the tattoo but didn’t really hide his past as a former performer. He just made it fit with his new lifestyle as a professional assassin. Barbie had the most drastic change, a white X over the mark. It seemed like she was trying to forget about that part of her life.

But it seemed her past was catching up to her.

“Not at all. But would it be okay if I talked with Barbie alone for a bit?” Fizz asked, not taking his eye off the taller imp woman. “I’m sure you and Ozzie can find something to talk about.”

“I can show him my newest line of lingerie. The winter collection has been particularly popular.” Ozzie suggested, offering a hand to the older imp. “You don’t mind, do ya?”

Cash took it to help him stand up but he seemed a bit apprehensive leaving his daughter alone. “You gonna be okay Barb?” He asked. “I can stick around if ya need me.”

Barbie gave her dad a grateful look before shaking her head. “I’ll be okay, dad.” She promised. “I think I need this.”

The older imp was surprised but proud of his kid for taking this chance. Whatever outcome came from this reunion, hopefully they’d say what they needed to say and hear what they’d needed to hear. It would no doubt be a hard conversation but a necessary one.

“Come on. Let’s go check out the new products I’ve been working on.” Ozzie encouraged brightly before leaning down to whisper in Cash’s ear. “I think we need to talk privately anyway.”

Cash nodded in understanding giving his daughter one more encouraging thumbs up before following the Sin out of the office. Hopefully Fizz wouldn’t attack Barbie the second they left. Compared to the twin tornadoes, Fizz wasn’t much of a fighter when they were little. He preferred using his brains to get into trouble but from what Cash had heard from the boys after that kidnapping attempt, Fizz got a really good punch in before escaping with his son.

Damn made the older imp proud.

Once the older demons had left Ozzie’s office, Fizz gave Barbie a hard look. He didn’t know what he would say to her after all this time but after all the bullshit, he needed this. And he had a feeling Barbie needed a swift kick to the butt verbally.

Maybe literally as well.

“So…” Fizz began, standing in front of her. “You drink coffee these days?”

Barbie blinked in utter shock; THAT was the first thing he asked her?! Her coffee preferences?

“Uh…little bit of cream and one sugar.” Barbie told him, utter confusion in her voice.

“Got it.” He nodded, backflipping over to the little counter where Ozzie kept his electric kettle. He stretched his arms out, grabbing everything he needed to prepare their drinks. From the coffee can up high to the cream in the fridge to the sugar in the cabinet.

Barbie was stunned at how good he had gotten with those arms. He was such a natural through and through. Even doing something simple like making coffee looked impressive.

It took a few minutes but Fizz returned with the coffee, handing Barbie her cup. “Here you go. Cream and sugar for you,” he stated, before taking a sip from his own cup. “And black coffee for me.”

Barbie cringed a bit at that. “Ick…how you and dad can drink that without anything in it is gross.” She shuddered.

Fizz shrugged before taking a long sip. “Hey it ain’t that bad,” he replied, looking down at his cup before chuckling a bit.

“What’s so funny?” Barbie blinked.

“Blitz said the same thing when we had coffee at his place.” Fizz told her, noticing the flinch in her eyes. “You two are a lot more alike than you think.”

Barbie quietly sipped her drink, letting that thought sink in. This was going to be a long night.

(…)

Cash was really impressed at the inventions and clothes that the King of Lust could come up with. He catered to anyone which is what made him very popular in the business of Lust and pleasure. The lingerie ranged from classy to “you need an engineering degree to figure out how to put on”. Ozzie was amused at how Cash was studying a more complex sex outfit that was basically a bunch of strings and nipple covers.

“Okay how the fuck is anyone supposed to wear that? I’d be worried about being tied up like a beef roast!” Cash questioned, pouting as Ozzie let out a laugh.

“That’s a first I’ve heard of worries about that!” Ozzie chuckled. “I do try to put in instructions but maybe I should make an instructional video.”

Cash snickered from that idea before moving over to the edibles. He picked up a body powder that was flavor like honey. He sniffed it before sneezing, getting powder on his face.

“Yeah that’s not one of my more popular products. Some edibles are pretty niche like flavored condoms.” Ozzie explained.

“Damn they’ve gotten a lot more complicated than when I first got married.” Cash mused, looking at some frilly lingerie with a bit of a melancholy expression. “My wife would’ve loved a lot of this stuff…”

“You loved her a lot, huh.” Ozzie guessed.

Cash nodded, pulling a photo out of his wallet and showing it to the Sin. “How could I not? She wasn’t just gorgeous; she was smart, funny, and kind. I was shocked someone like her could fall for someone like me.” He admitted, looking down shamefully. “I guess I wanted to be a good husband to her so much that when she got sick, being a dad was too overwhelming and I couldn’t be what my kids needed. I was a jackass.”

“But you’re making up for it now, right?” The taller son reasoned.

“Yeah but I can’t make up for 15 years of being an idiot…” the older imp sighed. “I was so ashamed of what I did that night…and not being able to face what’s left of my family.”

Ozzie placed a hand on Cash’s shoulder, giving him a sympathetic smile. “I get being a jackass and feeling bad about it. When your son and Stolas were at my main club once, Blitz’s friend was singing about mushy romance to his wife for their wedding anniversary and, since Fizz and I weren’t public about being together romantically, we had to call them out for being sappy when my whole thing is about lust without attachment. Then when your son stepped in to defend his friend’s relationship…shit hit the fan.”

Cash’s eyes widened at what happened that night about how Fizz had mocked him and his former girlfriend said he was a lousy boyfriend. How Ozzie was teasing Stolas about how he cheated with an imp even though he had a wife and kid. What Ozzie regretted most after everything was not considering why he would give up what seemed like a stable life. If what King Paimon had told him was just the surface—behind the facade of a happy family was someone that was miserable being stuck in a loveless marriage, only being kept sane by his daughter—he felt like such a dick for giving him shit. He still thought Stolas was a bit of an over the top weirdo but he didn’t deserve all the bullshit that happened to him.

Even the sins made mistakes, he supposed.

“Fuck…that’s a lot…” Cash whispered.

“Yeah…this system really needs to change.” Ozzie told him, surprising Cash. “I love Fizzy and I would do anything for him…but I just couldn’t stand against Satan even when he was texting me, begging me to defend his friend.”

“Well Satan’s a dick.”

“Yeah but he’s a dick with more power than any of us. The only one that might get him to listen to reason is MIA.” Ozzie explained, his shoulders slumping down. “We need to get as much evidence to prove Andrealphus is full of bullshit and that Stolas’s ex-wife ain’t a good guardian for Octavia. Getting them to actually listen is gonna be tough…”

“Can’t that Paimon guy make them listen? He’s rich enough and a king, ain’t he?” Cash questioned before pouting a bit. “I mean, he did pay for my son with a wadded up five and a slim fit condom when he wanted to give the little feather-duster a playmate for the day. The birdbrain could’ve splurged a bit more.”

Ozzie’s eyes widened as he stared down at a very confused Cash. “Wait…what did you say?” He whispered.

“Uh…w-well when that king and his butler came up to me after the show, he wanted to buy my son for the day for his son’s birthday. And when I asked how much he had, he had five bucks and a condom.” Cash explained, feeling like an idiot.

But instead of getting angry, Ozzie picked him up and gave him a big smooch on the cheek, shocking the imp. “Oh you genius! You brilliant genius!” Ozzie cheered, unaware of the utterly confused and kind of scared expression on Cash’s face as Ozzie spun him around.

“What’d I do?” Cash questioned, his eyes spinning as the Sin suddenly stopped.

“You gave us the exact edge we needed to make this second trial work out!” Ozzie grinned, carrying Cash off. “Come on! We’ve got a phone call to make!” Cash was utterly bewildered as Ozzie carried him away. At least he wasn’t angry at him but he was just bewildered. Who was he going to call? How was a stupid deal from years ago going to matter now?

As they moved further into the factory to find a phone, Cash could only hope that Barbie’s conversation with Fizz would go as well as this one surprisingly did.

(…)

Barbie was shocked at how…normal her conversation with Fizz was to start. They were slowly catching up with each other, Fizz telling Barbie about how working for Ozzie has been great. How he could express himself easier at the clubs and enjoy himself working at Ozzie’s shop. Barbie was impressed at how much he’s changed from his performing days with Mammon. He looked genuinely happy like in the old days.

Fizz, in turn, was genuinely happy that Barbie was looking well after getting out of rehab. He even gave her a smirk when she looked happy talking about that cute girl from Wrath that she brought up a few times. Maybe it was kind of sibling dynamic he had with her but teasing her was still funny to him even all these years later.

But the bandage had to be ripped off eventually. He needed to confront her.

“So…what’re you doing here?” Fizz asked her bluntly.

“I…I needed to talk to you. I’m really sorry for not seeing you after I got out.” Barbie told him, scratching the back of her head. “After the fire and rehab…I just needed to restart everything, you know?”

“Did you tell anyone?”

“No. I wanted a clean break to clear my head and establish myself again first.” Barbie told him, looking down. “I’m sorry we couldn’t really talk after the funeral…”

“Well I had to get working with Mammon afterwards so we were both busy.” Fizz told her, giving her a stern look. “But that’s not the only reason, is it.”

Barbie forced herself to look in his green eyes. Fizz wasn’t a timid teen anymore; he was a confident grown demon that didn’t take shit. As scared as she was of being reamed out by him, she was proud of him for standing against Mammon after ages of being treated like crap.

Guess he learned that from Blitzo.

“I…I am so fucking sorry, Fizz.” Barbie began. “When I heard about the fire and what Blitzo did—I just sort of lost it. I was scared and angry and distraught. I wanted to protect what was left of our family.”

Fizz took one more sip of his coffee before setting his mug down. “Barbie I want to ask you something. Do you really think that Blitzo would ever want to hurt Miss Tilla?” He asked her bluntly.

“No but—!”

“Do you think he hasn’t been sitting in guilt every day since the fire? Blaming himself for what was just an unfortunate accident that hurt the people he cared for the most?” Fizz went on, his tone getting harsher.

“No I—”

“That making him think I didn’t want to see him didn’t hurt?! That making me think he never came wouldn’t hurt me?! I was stuck with a maniac for 15 fucking years, Barbie!” Fizz ranted, standing up as he glared down at her.

Getting upset, Barbie stood up and frowned. “I was trying to protect you! Thanks to Blitzo’s being a clumsy idiot, we lost everything! He couldn’t even save our mom!” She shouted.

“But he tried to save her! Just because you weren’t there doesn’t mean you can give him shit for trying!”

“I KNOW!” She screamed, collapsing into the chair as she covered her face. “I know dammit…I let my jealousy get the best of me and I screwed everything up…”

Feeling bad for her, Fizz moved to sit next to her, removing her hands as he looked her in the eyes. “Barbie…I get you were upset and hurt but what you did was fucked up,” he reasoned, keeping his voice level. “You made my best friend believe I never wanted to see him. You, Mr. Buckzo, and Blitz were the only family I had and I hated him for years until recently…”

“I’m sorry Fizzy…I understand if you never want to see me again…” Barbie sniffled, blinking as she felt Fizz pull her into a strong hug.

“You betrayed me…you betrayed what we had as circus troupe members and family. You really hurt me.” Fizz told her, shaking a bit as the thought of seeing his best friend nearly losing his head washed over him. “I just got him back and thought of losing him again scared the piss out of me…”

“So…why are you hugging me?” Barbie questioned, shaking as he let go and gave her a serious look.

“Because we’re family, dummy. Even when I was mad at Blitz, deep down I still cared. If he meant nothing to me, I wouldn’t care what happened to him.” Fizz told her, wiping a tear from her face as he gave her a soft smile. “Same with you. I’m not saying we’re besties right away again but…maybe we can start over?”

Feeling her lip quiver, Barbie clung onto Fizz as she sobbed loudly in his chest, loudly apologizing for everything. She was so scared that he would give her the boot and never want to see her again. After what she had said to Blitzo that time on Earth, she wouldn’t blame Fizz or Blitzo for renouncing her.

The relief that Fizz was willing to hear her out and actually give her another chance was overwhelming in the best way possible.

Ozzie and Cash soon returned, seeing Fizz hugging Barbie as he patted her back. Cash was relieved that Fizz didn’t want to kill her because he had heard shouting as they were heading back. But the avian sin assured him that while Fizz might have a bit of a mouth, he’d never get physical unless he was attacked first.

Punching out that Striker dick was just self-defense.

“Aww…that’s sweet.” Ozzie smiled, barely reacting as Barbie removed her tear and snot covered face from Fizz. “Looks like things worked out on both ends here.”

Cash moved to her side, giving her a tissue to wipe her face. “You okay kiddo?” He asked.

Barbie responded by blowing her nose loudly with a honk, dabbing her eyes with a fresh tissue before nodding. “Yeah…I think I needed that…” she replied before hugging her dad. “Thanks for not letting me run away anymore.”

Cash hugged her back, happy for his girl. He turned to a bashful Fizz before opening his arm out to him. “Get in here, ya nut.”

Fizz smiled as he stretched his robo arms around his family, squeezing them tight. “Thanks for coming. Sorry I was kinda standoffish before.” He told them, pouting when he got a bonk from his former boss.

“Hey don’t worry about it, Fizzy. I’m just glad ya worked things out.” Cash replied, looking at his daughter. “Think you’re ready to see Blitz soon?”

Barbie took a few deep breaths, separating from her dad and friend before nodding. “I think so. But I don’t think just a talk is enough.” She reasoned.

“What’re you gonna do?” Fizz wondered.

Barbie looked at the two imps before staring right at them. “I need to fight Blitzo.”
