Chapter 1: Prologue
Chapter Text
Izuku walked down the underpass, trying to save his notebook as he mumbled, “Stupid Kachan, what if I actually went through with your ‘advice’, you’d get in trouble…”
Said “advice” was for the young Quirkless teen to commit sucide, provoked by Izuku’s desire to enter UA, the most prestigious Hero School in Japan.
Izuku passed under a bridge, thinking about what he would need to do to enter UA when a shadow rose behind him and surged forwards, slime wrapping around him and surging into his mouth and nose.
“A perfect meatsuit to hide from him,” a voice said, “Thanks kid, you’re a real hero!”
Izuku struggled futiley, finding his limbs sinking into the muck as his heart hammered in his chest. It felt like a prison, the whole thing, the slime surging around his body and down his throat, his heart straining in his chest, it was a prison that would kill him.
He didn't want to die. There was so much he hadn't done! He wanted to live, to try and fail to get into UA, to go places!
That was when something deep in Izuku, deeper than his body, deeper than the genes that said he had no powers, Ignited. The grey rain-curtain of the world rolled back and Izuku fell, the sludge no longer holding him as he plummeted through a kaleidoscope of color and noise, strings of iridescent light in every direction. Reaching out and grabbing one at random in an attempt to stop his fall, Izuku-
-crashed against the ground, slime flying from his mouth as he rolled around, coughing wildly. Looking up, he found he was in the middle of a cobblestone plaza, trees planted neatly around the place, with a large Greco-Roman senate building at the end of it. Beyond that was a sheer plummet that, as Izuku approached, revealed a city of spires stretching out into the horizon.
There was a crackle of ozone and a sudden flash of lightning, just as suddenly there was a man in, if Izuku had to guess, his thirties with brown hair standing behind him wearing blue and red robes under gold armor.
“So you're the one who just arrived?” He said
“Arrived?” Izuku asked.
“Yeah.” The man watched Izuku with eyes that crackled with lightning, “My sensor went off, saying a Planeswalker had just arrived, that was you, right? Certainly don't look like you're from Ravnica.”
“Ravnica? Planeswalker?” Izuku asked, and the man gave a soft ‘oh’.
“You just Ignited, didn't you? First ‘Walk?”
“I, I don't get what you're saying,” Izuku said, “I didn't walk anywhere-”
“Does this place look like anywhere you would know?” Izuku stopped, before shaking his head, “That's what I thought. Congratulations, kid, you just joined the multiverse’s most illustrious club, the Planeswalkers, those few of us who can travel from one plane in the multiverse to another. I’m Ral Zarek, and I’m like you.”
—
Izuku fell, plummeting layer after layer into Ravnica as lightning crackled around him. Reaching out his arm as he approached a corner, glowing strands of magic wrapped around a spire and he used the momentum to whip around the corner and fall further. Falling, falling, falling-
He Walked.
It was the sensation of falling forever and having his momentum completely arrested all at once. Infinite kaleidoscopic fractals surrounded him on all sides, strings stretching out. A few were familiar, almost trying to call for Izuku to touch them and be dragged back to their world. To ten realms under a world tree, to a house that ate a Plane, a realm of knights and fairy-tales, neon lights and Kami, flat planes where the Dragons ruled, a plane that had lost count of the times it rebuilt from apocalypse.
Instead, he lashed out on instinct, grabbing a thread and pulling himself in even as he didn't move. There was a rush on noise and color before Izuku slammed feet first into solid ground. Despite that, his legs didn't buckle, and he stood up straight. A shriek came from behind him and he turned, meeting his mother's eyes.
“I-Izuku?” Inko asked, hands coming up to her mouth.
“Mom,” Izuku said, voice choked, and that was all he got out before Inko rushed forwards and swept him into a hug, burying her face in his shoulder.
“Where were you? We thought you were- were dead,” Inko sobbed.
“Sit down,” Izuku sighed, “This is a long story.”

Chapter 2: Chapter 2
Chapter Text
This one was a struggle to get out.
---
Izuku rushed across the room as big as the Mustafu city park, throwing out wires to catapult himself further forwards. Reaching for his sides, Izuku wrapped his hand around the hilts of Swords of Truth and Justice and War and Peace, drawing them both. Whipping past the small group of teenagers, Izuku lashed out, blades cutting into the razorkin's supernaturally tough muscles.
"Go!" He barked, and the group ran before Izuku turned his head just in time to dodge a chainsaw to the head. The wires on his hips came to life as he supplied them with mana, pulling him backwards from the madwoman and then to the side, dodging another chainsaw slash. The wires came to life again, lashing out and pulling the razorkin's arms apart and forcing her to drop the chainsaw she was wielding.
Pulling himself in, Izuku slashed the girl's head off, watching the body drop with a dulled self loathing. It was getting easier.
He didn't want it to get easier.
—
Izuku sat on the couch, holding his Mom's hand as she stared at him. Finally, she said, "You're not kidding?"
"Yeah, Quirkless teenager becomes even more of a rarity, crazy, right?"
"I- yes- but… Does that mean you're going to leave again?" Inko asked quietly.
"I'll probably make trips to other planes, but I know my way home now, so I shouldn't be gone for as long. A few days, weeks at maximum, not six months," Izuku said, playing with a keychain he had picked up in Duskmourn, "And I'm sorry it took so long to get home, I tried, really, but picking one Plane out of the Blind Eternities is like… Well, imagine a tapestry of infinite yarn, they try to pick out the exact one you want when you don't know which one it is."
"I'm just glad you're back," Inko said, before breathing in, "We need to go to the Bakugo's."
"Why?" Izuku asked, but stood up nonetheless. Kacchan's house was only a couple of blocks away, so they'd get there in no time.
"Because… We… We made a mistake," Inko said, voice trembling, "We thought you were dead, and the last time anyone saw you, Katsuki had… Well, his friends said he had told you to kill your self, so I… Mitsuki pushed me to because she thought so to, even Katsuki wanted it, I think."
"Mom," Izuku said urgently, "What did you do?"
"I pressed charges. Katsuki's spent the last six months in Juvenile Detention."
Izuku breathed in through his nose. Kacchan… No, he didn't deserve to call him that anymore, Katsuki was in jail because he didn't find a way home fast enough?
"It's gonna take a lot of work to get that off his record," Izuku said, standing up, voice robotic, "Come on, let's go see Mrs. Bakugo."
—
Mitsuki looked up at the knock on her door, walking over and opening it, only for her jaw to drop open at the sight before her. Standing there wearing a green duster with armor over the arms and swords at his hips, was Midoriya Izuku, Inko behind him. Mitsuki kept staring for a minute before abandoning all decorum, rushing in to hug the kid, pinning his arms to his sides, "I thought you were dead."
"No, sorry," Izuku said, "We need to talk about Katsuki."
Mitsuki breathed in, before guiding him to to the couch, "He's got a couple more weeks in juvie, then he'll be out."
"I want him out before than," Izuku said instistantly, "he didn't do anything wrong, so he shouldn't even be-"
"Didn't do anything wrong?" Mitsuki asked in bafflement, "Izuku, he told you to kill yourself."
"But I didn't-"
"So? He still tried to get you to kill yourself," Mitsuki said, "and even if he didn't and this was all roses, it would take way longer than the two weeks he has left of juvie."
"But-" Izuku started, looking troubled.
"We can go to the police and report you alive," Mitsuki said, sighing. This kid was too good natured for his own good, "maybe that'll get it taken off his record, but there's no way he's getting out of juvie before his release date."
"I want to see him," Izuku said.
"We'll do that after the police know you're back. Where were you, anyways?"
"I don't know how far away it was, but my Quirk is apparently long distance teleportation."
—
Izuku looked at Mitsuki, her hair seeming more grey then he remembered, and she had deep bruising around her eyes. How much grief had she been feeling, thinking Katsuki had gotten him killed?
Izuku clenched a fist, feeling the wires inside of the gloves Ral had made for his combat style press against his tendons, self loathing in his gut. He should have tried harder to get home, not played the hero on other Planes.
This was going to ruin Katsuki's chances to get into UA. Shiketsu too, unless there was a program he didn't know about. All because he had become a Planeswalker.
"Izuku," Mitsuki said as they stopped at a light, "you shouldn't blame yourself for this. Katsuki went too far, and it was going to bite him back eventually. If he was willing to tell you to do that, what are the chances he would have said it to someone at UA?"
Izuku didn't have a response to that. Katsuki had always been driven, maybe to the point of arrogance. Would he have baited someone at UA? Izuku honestly couldn't answer that.
But it still didn't feel right. It shouldn't have gone like this, Izuku wasn't sure how it should have gone, maybe he remained a Quirkless nobody, but at least Katsuki wouldn't be stuck like this. Something had gone wrong when he Ignited, the world was inside out. Katsuki, who should have gone on to be a great hero!
Izuku shook his head, struggling with the weight of what had happened.

Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Chapter Text
Eren was dead. She felt the life leave her as she sat on the top of the rooftop in Trost. She couldn't- She had- had-
Even as her will to live died, something deep inside her sparked, then Ignited. A whirl of incomprehensible sights surrounded her, and the next thing she knew, she was kneeling on grey sand, nothing but dunes as far as the eye could see.
A roar rose up from the sky, and she watched a giant, scaled creature with birdlike wings snap it's jaws towards a dark speck that seemed to twist around the attack. When the creature next opened it's mouth, lightning cracked across the sky, barely missing the speck as it rolled across the head and slashed out across the nape of its neck. Blades split through scale and sent the creature crashing down in front of Mikasa. A bisected sword, one side flaming while the other side gleamed in the sunlight, pierced through the head, ending the creature's life.
A boy stepped off the creature after drawing the sword from the skull, looking Mikasa over. Finally he said, "Planeswalker?"
"What?"
"Your clothes, your equipment, it isn't like anything I've seen on Tarkir. You Planeswalked, didn't you? This isn't anything like home?"
"No…"
"Well then, let me be the first to welcome you to being a Planeswalker, I'm Midoriya Izuku, and I sparked three months ago. What's your name?"
"Mikasa Ackerman."
—-
Katsuki lay on the bed in his cell, stewing in his thoughts. He wasn't going to UA. That was a certainty, with a black mark as big as juvie on his record. Maybe Ketsubushi would let him in at least? But that wasn't his grand origin story, triumphantly standing tall at the head of UA, the strongest student in all of Japan, before blowing Hawks' record out of the water for climbing the Hero Billboard Chart and beating All Might in the rankings.
But it wasn't like he deserved that, after… No, it wasn't his fault the damn nerd took his joke seriously!
Now if only he could actually convince himself about that, that would be step one to convincing the world.
"Bakugo," one of the correction officers said, looking at Katsuki differently from normal, almost pityingly, "You have visitors."
Katsuki stood up, waiting for the door to open and stepping out into the hall. It said of how much he had been a model inmate that she didn't feel the need to cuff him or even equip herself with her pepper spray.
Just before they reached the door to the visitor center, she turned to Katsuki, "Now, this is going to be a shock, Bakugo, so I'm required to inform you, any violent behavior and I'll be forced to restrain you and return you to your cell, ok?"
Who the hell had come to visit him? He had never got that warning any of the times the Old Hag visited.
The door opened, and Katsuki stepped into the room, a wall of Quirk resistant plexiglass splitting it in two, and then he felt his jaw drop.
Sitting on the other side of the glass, wearing a green dyed duster over a button up shirt and under a harness, was none other than Midoriya Izuku. He had a scruff of beard hair across his face, like he hadn't had the chance to shave in a few days.
The first words out of the numb Katsuki's mouth, surreally were, "What's with the cowboy outfit, you damn nerd?"
Izuku let out a clearly startled guffaw at that, before saying, "Katsuki, I'm sorry-"
"You damn well better be," Katsuki cut the apology off, "I went to jail because of you. Where has your dumb ass been?"
"I- trying to get home. It turns out I have a powerful energy manipulation Quirk that only started working when I got caught in a villain attack. It teleported me… Well, far away. Katsuki, I never wanted this to happen-"
"Shut it, you nerd," Katsuki said without any heat, before sighing and falling into the chair and leaning forwards, "I… Well, I'd be kidding if I didn't say I dug my own grave with this. I already scared you enough that day, telling you to take a swan dive was, it was going too far for no reason. I don't blame them for thinking I got you killed; it's what I would've done."
"But- your chances of being a hero!" Izuku said.
"Oh, I'm still gonna be a hero," Katsuki said, "There's a rehab program for kids my age at Ketsubutsu, I'm already signed up and passed the exam."
"Oh- ok," Izuku said.
"Listen, De- Izuku," Katsuki said, "I did and said fucked up things to you, I've been basically playing that dare on repeat in my head since the day I got here. I destroyed your stuff, I threatened you… We could go on and on. I realize now that that wasn't right. It isn't what a hero does. Don't blame yourself for me being here, it's my own fault."
"You're… Taking this better than I expected," Izuku said.
"Oh, I'm pissed," Katsuki said, baring his teeth, "I would wring your scrawny little throat if this wall wasn't between us. If I never see you again, talk to you again, think about you again, it'll be a great fucking thing. But I know I fucked up, so I'm sorry for that. Now get your ass into UA, for both of us, you nerd."
---
Izuku was sitting on a skyscraper when the Blind Eternities split, Mikasa stepping out, a paper boy's hat on her head, Ral's upgraded OMD that they both used over a simple button up shirt and slacks, and her scarf around her neck. Izuku raised his hand, "Yo!"
"Hi, Izuku," Mikasa said, sitting down, "What plane is this?"
"My home one," Izuku said, "How's being a Planeswalker treating you?"
"It's… Been difficult. I still miss Eren."
"Ever thought of going home?"
"No," Mikasa said, "I… Too many bad memories, now."
"I guess that's the benefit of being a Planeswalker," Izuku said casually, "We can always leave when things get too much. Where have you been staying since we split, or have you been hoping around?"
"I've made a couple of walks, but I've mostly settled on the Plane of New Capenna. It's… Very different from my home plane. One big city, far more advanced than anywhere on my Plane. It's… Not much, but it's home for now."
"Well, if you ever need a place to crash off Plane, you have my places always open to you."
"What are you doing up so high? Were you planning to walk?"
"No, I just like high places, it helps me think. Blame Ravnica, everything's high up there."
"Yeah," Mikasa agreed.
"Wanna come home for dinner?" Izuku offered, "I don't know what they have on New Capenna, but I doubt it's as good as my Mom's cooking."
"Sure," Mikasa said.
"Alright," Izuku said, "follow me."
And then Izuku tipped off the top of the building, plummeting as he passed magic through the ODM gear.
—
Inko looked up as Izuku walked in; followed by… A girl?
She had short black hair and grey eyes, wearing a harness similar to the one Izuku wore over her outfit, which consisted of a paper boy's hat, a white shirt with rolled up sleeves, and brown slacks over work boots.
"Mom, this is a Planeswalker friend of mine, Mikasa Ackerman, she stopped by for a visit and I offered her dinner."
"Oh," Inko said, "You made Planeswalker friends?"
Izuku nodded, "Not every time Planeswalkers meet up ends in explosions and fights, just… Most of them."
Mikasa snorted at that. It must be some sort of Planeswalker injoke.
"Well, if you're a friend of Izuku's, I can't say no. He never brought over friends before-"
"Thank you very much, Mrs. Midoriya," Mikasa said, looking over at Izuku's room in puzzlement, "Izuku, who's that man all over your room?"
"He's All Might, he's the strongest person on this Plane, he's practically unstoppable! I really idolize him, because he's always saving people with a smile on his face, and that's what I wanted to be before my Spark Ignited."
"Hmm," was all Mikasa said, before looking over their TV, "and what's this?"
"Oh, that's a television. You know those holograms on Kamigawa that tell the news and stuff? It's like that. We actually have holographic technology on this Plane, but it's much more expensive."
"Convenient, all we have on New Capenna is "radio"."
"Oh, we have that too," Izuku said, "it's considered old fashioned technology."
"Is New Capenna your original plane?" Inko asked, feeling like she should add something to the conversation.
"No," Mikasa shook her head, "My home plane is… An unhappy place, where all of humanity is trapped behind walls, because the rest of the world is covered in man-eating monsters called Titans."
"Oh," Inko said, unsure of how to follow that up, "Well, um, you're welcome to stop by for a meal whenever you want? If Izuku trusts you, I do too."
"Thank you," Mikasa said, "A home cooked meal is a good break between the street food I eat at… At home."
Chapter 4: Flashback 1
Chapter Text
Mikasa followed Izuku as he walked through the city. They were high up in the air, far higher than anywhere Mikasa had been before, and surrounding them were things that weren't human, for the most part.
The vast majority of them had blue-grey skin, with long ears that they wrapped up, wearing elaborate dresses. Others were humanoid foxes and rats; snakes with four limbs slithering across the ground, small; turtle-like beings walked by, talking with large, lumbering creatures that had metal attached to their body. In fact, a lot of the people had metallic parts.
Finally, they arrived at a walled off house off the busy main street, Izuku pressing a button on on something to the side. Mikasa jumped slightly, though she would deny it, when a voice came from the device, "Hello?"
"Tamiyo," Izuku said, "It's Izuku, is now a bad time?"
"It's never a bad time to have friends, come in."
The door opened, revealing green grass leading up to an expansive manor. Izuku walked in with Mikasa right behind him. Out of the house, which strangely had a sliding door made with what looked like paper, stepped one of the grey-blue people, a woman with her ears done up so they looked like horns. A gentle smile crossed her lips, and she said, "Hello, Izuku, and who's this?"
"Mikasa Ackerman," Izuku said, "She's a new Planeswalker, only just Ignited. I was hoping you'd give her a place to stay while she got on her feet. It's a big favor I know but-"
"I'd be glad to accommodate her," Tamiyo said, motherly, "Are you going to be running off?"
"I might stay for a couple of days myself, if you don't mind," Izuku said.
"My house is always open to members of our storytelling circle, Izuku," Tamiyo said, "come in, both of you, and don't forget to take off your boots. I'll go get a pair of slippers for Mikasa."
She turned, and Mikasa followed behind with Izuku, who stopped right in the doorway, taking off his boots to replace them with a pair of red slippers. Tamiyo came back a minute later with a new pair, "Oh, are you confused?"
"Yes," Mikasa admitted.
"It's customary in Kamigawa to change into a pair of slippers when you enter the house. I suppose Izuku forgot to tell you that?"
"Yes," Mikasa said, but took off her boots and switched them out for the slippers. Noticing Izuku pull off his coat, first undoing the bands that kept it attached to his legs and then shrugging it off, hanging it on a hook.
"Well, put them on and let's get you a room," Tamiyo said, her voice having never changed from the soft pitched friendliness, "My husband works in the art of spacial expansion so we can have one for every member of our story circle."
"Thank you very much," Mikasa said.
"Think nothing of it, Izuku wouldn't have brought you here if he didn't trust you to uphold the rules."
Trust? They had just met less than three hours ago!
"You're wondering how he could trust you when you just met?" Tamiyo asked, Izuku having wandered off without another word, disappearing into a room at the end of the hall, "Izuku has a good sense for the good and the bad. If his gut says he can trust you, he will. Now, follow me."
Mikasa followed the older woman, eventually coming to a door, where Tamiyo gestured. Stepping into the bedroom, Mikasa looked around, finding a neatly made bed with a red piece of clothing on it.
"I'll give you time, but you should wash up at some point, you still have blood on you from whatever you killed."
—
Izuku had just finished changing into the green jinbei waiting for him on the bed when a knock came on the door. Walking over, he opened it and let Tamiyo enter his room. The Moonkin turned to him and asked, "Do you know anything about Mikasa's ignition?"
Izuku shook his head, "No, why?"
"She went through nearly that entire conversation without saying a word," Tamiyo said, "she let you do all the talking. I'm worried for the poor girl; she has something haunting her from where she came from."
"I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised," Izuku said, "No offense to you, Tamiyo, but most ignitions are generally not as happy as yours."
Tamiyo raised her head in concession, her spark had ignited upon discovering the existence of the multiverse in the scroll towers of Oboro Palace, "That is true, I know, but I wonder what caused the grief."
Izuku gave a small hum of agreement before they both left his room. At the same time, across the building from them, Mikasa stepped out in a red jinbei, her features, surprisingly soft, set in the same blank look she had had since Izuku had found her. Izuku looked over at Tamiyo as she gave a slight giggle, bringing the arm of her kimono up over her mouth, "What?"
"Oh, nothing, Izuku," she said with a twinkle in her eye that said it wasn't nothing. Izuku frowned in confusion, before turning, "Why don't you take Mikasa out back and tell the kids a story while I go tell Genku we have guests so he knows to make extra dinner?"
"Yeah," Izuku said, walking over to Mikasa and gesturing for her to follow him. They walked out back, to a large grassy backyard with a koi pond in the end. Immediately, a younger moonfolk turned to them, eyes lighting up.
"Izuku!" Rumiyo called, rushing over as Izuku sat on the edge of the deck, "I didn't know you came back!"
"I just got here a few minutes ago, Rumiyo," Izuku said, messing the young girl's hair up, "you wanna hear a story?"
"Uh huh!"
"Alright," Izuku breathed in, aware of Mikasa sitting huddled against the wall.
—
Izuku was sitting in the back af a Silumgar convoy's wagon, acting as a task mage, when they sped up. Looking up from the Kamigawan book he was reading, he found Kologhan raiders approaching them from behind and the flanks. Standing up, Izuku waited for the right moment before leaping off the wagon and drawing the Sword of Truth and Justice, driving it through an orc's chest. Landing, he carved an Azorios sigil in the ground, freezing the horses of the raiders dead and causing them to fall off.
Drawing both swords, Izuku stared at the raiders. Eleven of them and one of him.
Easy.
Rushing towards the first one, a large orc with a proportionally large butcher's blade and a apron. Izuku slid under the blade, driving the Sword of War and Peace through the orc's jaw and into her brain before tearing it out. Turning, he caught a bite for his throat from a male orc on the Sword of Truth and Justice.
Blood Chins, Kologhans who descended to cannibalism. Great.
Slitting the Orc's throat, Izuku turned in time to dodge a pair of sabers from a pair of humans, sliding low and cutting down the two. As the next three came, Izuku reversed his grip on the Sword of Truth and Justice and breathed in, before throwing the blade, piercing their throat from collarbone to jaw. Catching the other two sabers on the Sword of War and Peace, Izuku cast another binding spell, the very sand coming up and biding them so he could cut them down and rush over to grab the Sword of Truth and Justice.
That's when everything went wrong.
There was the noise of screaming air in the distance, causing Izuku to look over in time to see a Kologhan dragon flying straight for the caravan. Before he could react, it had opened its jaws, breathing out crackling lightning that tore up the sand of the Salt Road and caused the people and horses to spasm, dying in the acrid smell of burning flesh. It continued onwards towards them and Izuku, at the last possible moment, activated the Sword of War and Peace's barrier, the lightning killing the last four Blood-Chins as the dragon grabbed the barrier in its mouth and began to ascend while trying to swallow Izuku whole.
Driving his sword's into the dragon's tongue. Izuku pulled back his feet before slamming them into the dragon's saber-like teeth, breaking several and using it to roll out of the jaw, stabbing the dragon's left eye as he did.
Urgh, dragon spit.
Izuku rolled over the spines of the dragon's head as it breathed out a storm of lightning, swinging both swords and severing its spine. They both plummeted , the dragon crashing first as Izuku brought the Sword of War and Peace down like a descending archangel.
Looking up, Izuku met the slat grey eyes of a girl in military gear, a strange harness on her hips.
"Planeswalker?" He asked.
"What?" She asked.
"Your clothes, your equipment, it isn't like anything on Tarkir. Didn't you? This isn't anything like your home?"
"No…"
"Well then, let me be the first to welcome you to being a Planeswalker. I'm Midoriya Izuku and I Sparked three months ago."

Chapter 5: Chapter 4
Chapter Text
Mikasa stepped into the magically made onsen in Tamiyo's house, taking off her Jinbei as she approached the water before sinking in with a sigh. This was so… Relaxing.
That thought jolted her for a second, blinking. She had… When had she last relaxed? Well, other than the times she was here. It must have been… before her parents died. Ever since then, she had been wired up about something, whether it was protecting Eren, making sure they survived another day, boot camp or her job as a Riveteer.
"Thinking about something, Mikasa?" Tamiyo asked as she sank into the bath across from her.
"Don't worry about it," Mikasa told the older woman. Before something else crossed her mind, "Actually, I did have a question. I wanted your opinion on something."
"What's that?"
"Izuku… Worked on things so I could try to get into UA if I wanted."
"Well, that was sweet of him, though I'm certain he broke some laws to do that. In fact, given his disposition, I think it's even sweeter. I take it you want my opinion of if you should go?"
"We didn't have schools like that in the walls. Armin had a book about outside the walls, but we were mostly homeschooled, or learned things during training. I'm not sure if going to a school is the best idea, but…"
"You'd like to be closer to Izuku?" Tamiyo asked, a teasing sparkle in her eye. Mikasa blushed and looked away, "I don't get why you're so hesitant to express your feelings for him."
"I still miss Eren. It isn't right to force Izuku to help me deal with that."
"And if Izuku wanted to? We both know he's a very sweet boy who would happily take on that responsibility."
Mikasa shook her head, changing the topic back to the original question, "Do you think I should go?"
"I'd say yes," Tamiyo said, "it would do you some good to be around kids your age."
—
Izuku was sitting on the couch, writing about All Might's newest fight, when the Blind Eternities split open and let Mikasa in. She was wearing the floral pattern yukata that Tamiyo had bought for her, so she must have come straight from Kamigawa. She sat down at his side, watching All Might give a karate chop that sent wind flying at the villain.
Mikasa had become a semi-regular guest in their house since he had returned four months ago. Enough that Inko, who was cooking dinner in the kitchen, didn't respond to the sudden intrusion beyond grabbing another plate.
They sat in comfortable silence for a long few minutes, before Mikasa asked in Old Sarpadian, "Izuku?"
"Yeah?" Izuku responded just as easily. The Spark made them naturally omnilingual, every language in the multiverse accessible as easily as their native language.
"Why do you want me to go to UA with you?"
"Why wouldn't I? We're partners, aren't we?" Izuku said, "You're probably the best friend I have, Mikasa. I don't want being at school to take away my opportunities to be with you, so why shouldn't we go together?"
"Ah…" Mikasa said, looking away, "It's just… I'm not sure. I enjoy the freedom we have now. We could be heroes on plenty of Planes, we don't have to bind ourselves to one."
"It'd be just three years," Izuku said, "and we could still go to other planes after school or on Sundays. And that's actually another reason why I want you there, I want someone I can trust to have my back no matter what's going on. That means you, Elspeth or Tamiyo, and Elspeth and Tamiyo are both too old and don't have any interest in being a hero. Being a Pro… It's all I ever really wanted in life. If you don't want to, I understand, you don't have to and there's no hard feelings. But I'm gonna try for it with everything I have."
"Then I'll try too," Mikasa said, "you're… Important to me, and I don't want to see you get hurt without me there to help you. I already lost one person important to me."
"Hey, someone's gotta keep me out of trouble," Izuku said with a chuckle.

Chapter 6: Interlude 1
Notes:
Gid, I fucking hate the Entrance Exam.
Chapter Text
Though it takes the last drop of my blood.
---
Yagi Toshinori watched the exam, glancing from screen to screen. The one he was focused on the most, however, was the girl with short black hair creating and breaking swords out of nowhere. As he watched, a robot smashed into her while her hands were open. She dug her feet in, the brown coat she wore fluttering as she latched her hands onto the side of the robot's head and twisted, breaking it off and dropping it.
"Someone catch your interest, Yagi?" Principal Nezu asked.
"Yes, the girl on camera ten."
Nezu ficked to it in time to see the girl leap on another robot, smashing her sword into its optics and letting it fade as she grabbed a new one. A file came up, showing the same girl, grey eyes staring ahead with a blank look on her face.
"Mikasa Ackerman, there are some," Nezu's eyes flickered to Lena Oxton, another teacher at UA, "irregularities in her file. Nothing to worry about, it was just accessed strangely recently. Her quirk lets her enhance her body and generate objects."
"Doesn't look like she has much control over the enhancement, if she keeps breaking those swords," Aizawa Shota scoffed.
"No, look at them carefully," Majima Higari, the hero "Powerloader" said, "those blades, they're sharpened to a razor edge. She's taking advantage of her ability to make as many expendable blades as possible to make sure she cuts through, even if the blade doesn't survive. I have to wonder if she has more permanent blades or if that's just how she fights normally."
"It still seems irrational," Aizawa said.
"I'm interested in that boy," Oxton said, nodding to another screen where a boy hovered above the fight with glowing green eyes, throwing out red lightning and fire, the green duster he was wearing flapping from the force of the attacks.
"Midoriya Izuku, went missing ten months ago," Nezu said, "reappeared four, apparently unlocked a powerful energy manipulation Quirk that sent him teleporting to a location he can't name."
This time, there was no doubt about it, Nezu and Oxton's eyes met meaningfully, though Toshinori couldn't figure out what it meant. Nezu immediately said, "Aizawa? You're not going to be a homeroom teacher for first years this year, Oxton will take your place."
"What? But, wh-?"
"Please just trust me on this, Aizawa."
Toshinori frowned, that wasn't a decision you just made without reason. Something about the boy had triggered it, and it wasn't something they were going to divulge.
Nezu pressed the button to release the Zero pointers, large robots that began to simulate the destruction of the city. Midoriya turned to it and clenched a fist, dragging it forwards as energy formed into a pseudo-meteor behind him, crashing into the robot's head and exploding, disintegrating the metal.
Mikasa, meanwhile, leapt as high onto the robot as she could before running the rest of the way. Blades striking the nape of the neck, she slashed it open before punching into the robot and tearing out a core bit of circuitry

Chapter 7: Chapter 5
Chapter Text
Izuku stood in front of a four story tall building, a duffel bag hanging from one arm. Next to him, Mikasa did the same, wearing a white blouse over a white skirt.
"Well," Izuku said, lamely, "Here we are."
"I can see that, Izuku."
"Should we… Uh… Go in?"
"Probably."
Izuku chuckled slightly at the deadpan response, stepping into the building with Mikasa on his heels. The minute he stepped inside, he was met with a blonde haired boy with a large tail and a silver haired boy wearing a mask over his lower face sitting on the couch.
"People are already done unpacking?" Izuku asked.
"I never saw the point in filling my room with junk," the silver haired boy said, lifting an arm to show a mouth on it. Huh, "I'm Shoji Mezo, by the way, and this is Ojiro Mashirao. Looks like we're gonna be in the same class."
"Yeah," Izuku said, "I'm Midoriya Izuku, and this is Mikasa Ackerman. Nice to meet you."
They walked towards the elevator, hitting their respective floors. Izuku stepped out first, leaving Mikasa in the elevator as he walked into his assigned room.
He had decided not to go overkill with what he sent ahead, a few All Might action figures and his bedspread. Opening the duffle bag, he took out his various "trophies": a fang from a dragon on Tarkir; a keychain from Duskmourn; a credit chip from Kamigawa; a powerstone from Dominaria; an elven armblade from Kaldheim and a Eldrainen sword. Then he pulled out the traditional outfits Tamiyo had been insistent he bring, alongside a suit and several regular T-shirts and pants, hanging them up in his closet.
There was suddenly a knock on the door, and he opened it to a brown haired woman wearing a harness.
"You're done?" Izuku tensed up as he realized she was speaking Zalfarian, "Good, let's go find your friend, we need to discuss our lifestyle."
—
Mikasa was changing into her jinbei when the knock came from the door, opening it as she pulled the last part on. Standing in the doorway was a messy, browned haired woman wearing a harness over a shirt with a three colored cross on it, speaking in Zalfarian, "Mind if we come in, love?"
Mikasa stepped aside, letting her and a worried looking Izuku into her room. The woman turned to them as Mikasa shut the door and locked it. Mikasa edged closer to the desk, sitting down and resting her hand centimeters from a bladeless hilt as she did so, "Who are you?"
"I'm Lena Oxton," the woman chuckled, "don't worry, hurting either of you would be against my job. I'm your homeroom teacher, and as you can probably tell, I'm a Planeswalker. I'm just here to lay down some ground rules for you two. First off, I don't mind if you go Walking, but if you're gone for more than three days, I'm coming after you, and unless you have a very good reason for not coming back, it's gonna be a three strike rule. If you prioritize the Multiverse over your schooling, I'm gonna have to expel you. Understand?"
Both Izuku and Mikasa nodded.
"Second, try not to show off too much. We both know you're stronger and more experienced than your classmates are, let's not go flaunting it and making them feel bad. And third, try to get to know your classmates. I know it's hard to prioritize the Planesbound over other Planeswalkers, but do try, ok?" Mikasa and Izuku nodded, "Good, now, get out there and go meet them."
"I swear," Izuku said as Oxton left the room, "there's something that makes Planeswalkers just meet each other."
Mikasa nodded, and they left her room to go downstairs and meet anyone who had finished while they set up their rooms.
—
Mina watched two people exit the elevator, a boy with messy green hair and a girl with short black wearing a red jinbei and scarf. She jumped up, walking over "Hey~ I'm Ashido Mina! What's your guys' name?"
"I'm Midoriya Izuku, and this is Mikasa Ackerman," the green haired boy introduced.
"Huh, why's your name in western order?" Mina asked Mikasa.
"I'm a foreigner," was all she said before going to sit on one of the couches, Midoriya joining her a second later. Mina was pretty sure she smelled something there, but it would be really rude to hound them about their relationship right after meeting them.
"I'm Asui Tsuyu, but just call me Tsu," the frog Heteromorph sitting on one of the other couches said, and Mikasa cracked a small smile.
"It's nice to meet you, Tsu. Please, just call me Mikasa."
"Looking forward to school?" Mina asked, jumping in place, "I was worried I wasn't going to get in, I'm not the smartest, but apparently they grade people going into the Hero course differently from the other courses."
"Yeah," Midoriya smiled, "I've wanted to go to UA since I was a little kid. I almost can't believe I'm here!"
"Like it's stranger than other things you've done," Mikasa deadpanned, to which Izuku gave a sheepish laugh.
"Yeah, I guess that's true," Izuku said, "And if it weren't for those weird things, I wouldn't have met you, Mikasa."
Mikasa pulled her scarf up to hide her lower face. Oh, yeah, there was definitely something there.
"Have you two known each other long?"
"Seven months," Izuku said, and Mikasa nodded. Really? She would have thought they were childhood friends. That'd be super romantic when Mina actually got involved.
Chapter 8: Chapter 6
Chapter Text
The first day and a half at UA was quite boring, if Mikasa was honest. It was, what she assumed, normal stuff. An orientation (which, compared to any speech Keith Shadis had ever given them, was considerably more boring. There wasn't even any yelling), followed by returning to the dorms to get to know each other.
The next day, it was Math, English (which was pitifully easy due to the Spark), Physics, and Hero Art History. Which, admittedly, gave her the adorable sight of Izuku fanboying over the various teachers. Finally, in the second half of the day, after lunch, they were going to have Hero Basic Training.
In burst All Might, wearing a red and white outfit with a yellow cape, standing on his toes and bracing his arms on the doorway, "I am here, coming through the door like a Hero!"
Immediately, the class broke out in quiet conversations, all of them clearly excited that All Might was their teacher. But none more than Izuku, who's eyes lit up with stars and he started practically vibrating in his seat.
"Now, first thing's first!". All Might declared, "You need to put on your costumes! A costume makes a hero, after all!"
A section of the wall slid out, revealing numbered briefcases. Everyone except Mikasa and Izuku scrambled for them. Once the struggle for all the costumes were done, Mikasa stood up and grabbed hers, walking to the girl's changing room and beginning to pull off her clothes and began to switch into her costume.
A sharp whistle came from next to her, and she looked over from where she was replacing her skirt with a pair of pants. Mina was looking her over, "What?"
"Where do you get muscles like that?" Mina asked, pointing at Mikasa.
"Exercise," Mikasa said, pulling the pants up all the way.
"I exercise too, and I don't have pecs you could grate cheese on," Mina protested, "Right, girls?"
"I must admit, I'm not as muscular as you, Ackerman," Momo said, "and I train every day."
Mikasa shrugged, feeling slightly self conscious at the attention. She quickly pulled on her shirt, buttoning it up and putting on her ODM gear. Pulling the brown military jacket over it and the stun guns under it she turned and walked out of the room.
—
Izuku pulled on the specially made white shirt, doing the buttons as he felt the bundle of wires move with him. Grabbing two spools of wire connected to grapple hooks, Izuku connected them into designated sections of the built in harness. Finally, grabbing his duster, Izuku pulled on the coat and fastened the straps to his legs so it wouldn't get in the way of his ODM gear. Then, he grabbed the Swords of War and Peace and Truth and Justice and sheathed them on his hips.
Walking out with the rest of the boys, he made his way to Ground Beta, a decently sized, simulated city, the girls quickly joining them.
"Izuku," Mikasa asked, pulling her scarf up like she did when she was embarrassed, "What do you think of my muscles?"
"Your muscles?" Izuku asked in confusion, before shaking his head, "Well… If I have to say anything, I think they're pretty awesome."
"Really?" Mikasa asked.
"Yeah, they show how much you value your strength. They're evidence that even without magic, you're strong."
"Thanks," Mikasa said, letting down her scarf to show off a smile.
"No problem?" Izuku said, feeling quite confused as they entered Ground Beta.
"Look at you all, the very definition of Heroes!" All Might said with a boisterous laugh, "Now, I'm sure you're interested in today's exercise, correct? Well, it'll be combat training! Everyone will be split into teams of two and then two teams will go against each other, one as Villains and the other as Heroes! The Villains win if they manage to protect the fake bomb they've been assigned, the Heroes win by capturing the villains or touching the bomb! And first up are…"
Heroes
Midoriya Izuku & Yanagi Reiko
VS
Villains
Uraraka Ochako & Mikasa Ackerman.
Oh boy.
"Now, I'm going to give the villains five minutes to set up, then the Hero will be allowed into the building. Everyone else, to the observation room!"
"Hey, Midoriya, you're close with Ackerman, right?" Yanagi asked, "What do you think she's going to do?"
"I don't know," Izuku said with a frown, "Both of our fighting styles focus around mobility, which is going to be limited in the building… Listen, I'll hold off Mikasa when we run into her, you deal with Uraraka and get the bomb. Ok?"
"Ok," Yanagi nodded.
"Hero Team ready? Set! Go!" Before they could enter the building, there was a crashing of glass from above and Izuku looked up to see Mikasa out of the window and twisting to look at them, energy katanas activated.
"Into the building, now!" Izuku said as he drew his swords. Mikasa's grapples landed on either side of him and reeled her in, swinging both swords for Izuku's left side. He swung up the Sword of Truth and Justice, blocking them and feeling himself be pushed to the side as Reiko vanished into the building.
Firing the wires on his knuckles, he watched Mikasa dodge around each one before she rushed into him.
—
Momo watched the fight on the screen, watching as the two become a whirlwind of dodges, slashes and flowing clothes. Suddenly, Ackerman fired a pair of wires with grappling hooks from her hips… Somehow, taking off further into the city. Midoriya did the same thing a second later, taking off after her.
Ackerman whipped around a building, pulling them further and further from the building. So she was using Midoriya's tunnel vision to draw him away? That was smart of her.
Suddenly, Midoriya fired out extra lines from his knuckles, pulling him into Ackerman faster. Detaching one as he got close, he swung the sword glowing with white and blue light at her.
Ackerman turned, catching the sword on her own before kicking him in the gut, pushing him upwards and her downwards. Flipping, Ackerman fired her hooks again and reeled herself away as Midoriya fell to the ground coughing up bile.
Suddenly, Ackerman let go in mid air and turned back, firing her hooks on either side of Midoriya as her muscles noticeably bulged. Midoriya threw up a hand, and a barrier of golden light formed in front of him. At the laat second, Ackerman let one of the wires retract, pulling her to the side as she swapped out the energy sword for… a stun gun?
Midoriya snapped his hand out to the side, catching the ribbon connected to the diodes before they had the chance to pierce his flesh. Still, by the way he seized up, it was clear the electricity was doing it's job.
Still, it wasn't enough to stop him from bringing his free hand down on the ground. Cracks spread across the field, and Momo heard Todoroki choke on air. Flames eruptted from the cracks as Ackerman took off towards the building on the side. Midoriya dragged his hand into the air, flames covering the screen in a half shield.
When it faded, it was to Ackerman descending, having undergone a visible change. Her eyes were slitted, her canines had become fangs, and her muscles now bulged to the point her undershirt was struggling to keep them contained.
Midoriya stared for a crucial second too long, being slammed into the ground by Ackerman's knees as she put the swords to his throat. Midoriya raised his hand before tapping the ground three times. Ackerman rolled off him, the change visably disappearing as she sat there, Midoriya sitting up and resting himself against her back. As one, their heads flopped backwards and rested on each other's shoulders.
Midoriya smiled, saying something Momo couldn't hear, and a smile crossed Ackerman's face at whatever it was as she responded. They both held out an arm, and Midoriya wrapped his capture tape around both of their arms before they lifted them into the air.
"Midoriya and Ackerman have forfeited the match," All Might said, "It's up to young Yanagi and Uraraka to decide the winner."
—
Reiko paused at the declaration in her earpiece as she approached the bomb. It was more of a formality, given Uraraka was on the floor groaning with pain from a set of five knuts to the gut and there were still five minutes on the clock, but it made her wonder.
She touched the bomb, followed shortly by All Might's declaration of their victory. Reiko helped Uraraka stand and walk towards the observation room. As they came out onto the main street, they found Midoriya and Ackerman coming from one of the side streets, both covered in soot and rubble, holding each other up.
What the heck had they been doing?
When the four entered the building, Midoriya and Ackerman immediately fell into seats next to each other, eyes closed.
"Are you too alright? Do you need to see Recovery Girl?" All Might asked, "and what about you, Young Uraraka?"
"We're fine," Midoriya said, to which Ackerman nodded.
"I could, yeah," Ochako said, lying down on the stretcher a pair of robots had brought and being rushed out of the room. All Might coughed into his hand.
"Now, who can tell me the MV-"
"Yanagi," Midoriya cut him off, "It was Yanagi. Me and Mikasa got caught up playing around so we don't really count as players, and she took down Uraraka. She's the only choice.
"That was playing?" A girl with long black hair in a ponytail asked.
"That's… So manly!" A redhead cried.
"Yes, about that. Try not to do it again. You were still technically engaged in the exercise so I can't give you a zero, but I will be taking points from your grade this time and will mark you down as not participating if it happens again," All Might said, trying to sound strict.
"Right, sorry, sir," Ackerman said.

Chapter 9: Chapter 7
Chapter Text
Izuku knocked on a door, waiting for an answer. After a minute, Oxton-Sensei, "Tracer" opened the door. She looked him up and down, "What do ya need, love?"
"Mikasa and I are going to a Plane called Kamigawa. We should be back before class tomorrow, if not tonight," he said, deciding Zalfarian was the go to language the three of them would use to discuss Planeswalker things.
"You pick your class reps, tomorrow," Oxton-Sensei said, to which Izuku grimaced, "Not looking forward to it?"
"Might just spend the whole day in Kamigawa so there's no chance I get saddled with it," Izuku admitted sheepishly, "I don't want the extra responsibility keeping me away from my friends."
"Or, you know, you could always just abstain from whatever method they use to choose your reps, dear," Tracer said, "I know I said three days, but it's not a good look to miss a day so early in the school year."
Izuku shrugged, before walking away to Mikasa's room. They locked the door and turned each other, Izuku tipped over, falling into the infinite fractals of the Blind Eternities, feeling Mikasa plunge in right behind him. Grabbing the thread that led to Kamigawa, Izuku pulled himself out of the Blind Eternities right outside Tamiyo's house, pressing the buzzer as Mikasa arrived. The door opened, and they walked inside, bumping into a late teen wearing her hair in a braided ring, wearing a white jinbei, "Oh! Hello Izuku, Mikasa, it's good to see you."
"Nice to see you too, Elspeth," Mikasa said.
"Come to use the onsen?"
"And maybe stay the night and tell some stories," Izuku said.
They entered the divide between the men's and women's side of the onsen, Izuku sinking into the water. Closing his eyes, he saw Mikasa as she had been at the end of the match. Feral, strong… Beautiful. He worked his jaw carefully before calling over the wall, "Mikasa?"
"Yes?"
"Do you want to go out for crepes tomorrow?"
—
Le Concorde was a Plane that, at a superficial level, looked distinctly like Paris and the countryside in the pictures of France that Mikasa had seen in Izuku's world. Currently, they were sitting in a quiet park, watching as small dragons flew overhead, occasionally landing to be thrown chunks of meat by an old couple a few benches down. Their mother was wrapped around a building in the distance, where a cart was dropping off a cow carcass, her green scales glimmering in the sun.
Le Concorde had a very passive relationship with its dragons. They were treated like semi-domesticated animals rather than the fierce predators of other planes. Though it helped that when a dragon grew too big for the city, they normally took off for the wilds.
Mikasa took a bite of her strawberry and chocolate crepe, looking over at Izuku, who was looking over her. Finally, he opened his mouth to speak, "Mikasa, I- I wanted to know if you- if you… Do you want to go visit your home?"
Mikasa stopped, sensing that wasn't what Izuku had intended to say, but unable to figure out what he had planned to, "I… Why would you ask me that?"
"I dunno, it just seemed like a good idea. We could Planeswalk straight to Shiganshina and make a grave for-"
"Not today," Mikasa said, shutting him down before he could say Eren's name "but I'll think about it. Thank you, Izuku."
"Yeah, any time," Izuku said, nodding his head rapidly, "just tell me and I'll be ready."
He busied himself with taking a bite out of his crepe, not meeting her eyes. Mikasa leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek, "Thank you, Izuku. I really mean that."
"And, and- I was wondering if you wanted to try… Try dating?
—
Momo stepped into Height's Alliance with the rest of her class to find Midoriya and Ackerman out back, sparring in hand to hand combat. Frowning, the newly elected class rep stepped outside to talk to them. Ackerman caught sight of her, blocking Midoriya with one arm, "Hello, Yaoyorozu."
"Where were you two today? You clearly weren't sick…"
"Busy," Midoriya said, turning, "We spoke with Oxton-Sensei in advance. We'll be back starting tomorrow."
"Ah," Momo said. Oxton-Sensei had seemed unsurprised they weren't there during attendance, "Yes, well, please don't make a habit of it. You worked hard to get here, I wouldn't want you squandering it."
Suddenly, there was a crash behind them, and they turned to see someone had smashed through a window and rolled to a stop in the shards of glass. The first thing Momo noticed was that the person was wearing a jacket like Ackerman wore as her Hero Costume, but with a unicorn on the shield on the back. She had a spiky mess of hair on her head, pressing a hand against it and rolling up to look around in confusion, only to land on Mikasa, eyes widening.
—
Annie felt herself crash through glass, wondering what Eren had done when she heard a startled "What the-?"
Rolling up, feeling the cuts on her arms not healing, Annie looked around. Standing a bit away from her, looking like he had just jumped back from where she had landed, was a blond boy with a black streak going horizontally through his hair. Looking around more, she quickly realized it was nothing like the Stohess district at all. No, it was closer to something in Marley, but even more advanced then that.
Then her eyes landed on a girl outside the window and her eyes grew wide, "Mikasa?"
Mikasa blinked several times before saying, in dawning recognition, "Annie?"
"You're… you're dead," Annie breathed, "So is this-?"
Mikasa walked over and helped her up before pulling her into a hug as a boy with curly green hair followed behind, "I didn't think I was going to see any of you ever again. Come on, follow me."
"Wait, wait, wait," the blond boy said, putting his hands in a T, "What are you guys saying? Is that freaking German you're speaking? Do you know this girl, Ackerman?"
"Yes, Kaminari," Mikasa said, walking past the gathered crowd with the green haired boy on her heels. They climbed into a metal chamber and Mikasa jabbed a button and Annie felt her stomach jolt as they suddenly ascended.
"Annie, right?" The boy said, "Annie Leonhart, right? I'm Izuku Midoriya, Mikasa mentioned you."
"I don't understand," Annie said, "is this… Is this the afterlife?"
"No," Mikasa said bluntly, "We'll explain more in my room, come on."
Annie followed, entering a room with few items around it. Izuku took a seat on the bed, while Mikasa sat at the desk. Annie asked, "So, what is this place?"
"Heights Alliance, the dorms at UA High School, on the Plane of Legenda," Izuku supplied, catching a medical kit Mikasa tossed to him and standing up."
"What?"
"This… Is the complicated bit," Mikasa sighed, "The three of us? We're not normal, we're Planeswalkers."
"Planeswalkers?" Annie parotted in confusion.
"Those who can survive the Blind Eternities, and because of that, travel the multiverse, the infinite number of worlds other than our home one."
"I… You're joking, right?"
"No," Mikasa shook her head, "it's a rare occurrence, and there's an unspoken rule that Planewalkers don't tell non-Planeswalker about our existence. But sometimes, when something really traumatic happens, a part of our soul called the Spark Ignites and we make a blind walk into the Eternities. If I had to guess, since we knew each other, my Spark pulled you here. For me, it was when Eren died-"

Chapter Text
An awkward silence stretched in the room, Mikasa trying to find words as Izuku froze in the middle of treating Annie's wounds. Finally, Mikasa croaked, "What?"
"Eren isn't dead," Annie repeated.
"But, Armin said he had been eaten-"
"He had been. He escaped."
"Oh…" Mikasa said dully, looking at Izuku, who glanced back at her, a troubled look on his face.
"Mikasa," Izuku said, "can we talk on the balcony real quick?"
"Yeah," Mikasa said, standing up and following him out. Izuku leaned against the edge.
"Do you want to break it off?" Izuku said, "because I know how you feel about Eren, and I'm not going to force you to stay in a relationship because you entered before knowing he was alive-"
Mikasa cut him off with a kiss to the forehead, before pressing hers against his, "No."
"But-"
"Izuku, I care about you. And while Eren might not be dead, you helped me while I thought he was. I'm not going to leave you just because I found out he's alive."
Izuku smiled, kissing her on the nose, "Ok."
They re-entered the room to an unimpressed looking Annie, who drawled, "So, I'm guessing you two have some sort of relationship?"
"Yes," Mikasa said but didn't elaborate. She didn't feel the need to justify herself to her old rival, "So how did you Ignite?"
"I was… Fighting."
"Titans?"
"No- well, of a sort. It's a long story."
"Explain," Mikasa ordered blandly.
"Eren… He survived because he has the ability to turn into a Titan."
"Wha-?"
"And… I guess there's no harm in telling you, I can't exactly go back undercover… I can too. We were fighting because… Because I played a role in the fall of Wall Maria."
Mikasa froze, mind spinning… Annie had played a role in the fall of Wall Maria, that… Meant…
Shiganshina.
Mikasa was in front of Annie before either her or Izuku could react, grabbing Annie in a clawed hand and turning, throwing her out the window and over the balcony. Rushing towards it, she dodged around an attempted grab from Izuku and threw herself at that bitch.
—
Denki Kaminari stood around awkwardly with most of his class, finally blurting out, "Ok, what was that?"
"It was rather strange," Yaoyorozu said, frowning.
"No, no. Listen first Midoriya and Ackerman skip the day, then just out of nowhere a," really pretty, "girl who knows Ackerman just crashes from through the window? Something's up, and I want to know what!"
It was more than that. In the second before the girl had appeared, Denki had felt a sense of… sickness, like something wasn't right with the world.
"You guys felt it too, right? Something was up when that girl showed up, it wasn't a normal teleportation Quirk!"
"I- yeah," Jiro Kyoka said, playing with her earphone jacks.
"It was spooky," Yanagi said, hugging herself slightly.
"I admit to being unsettled," Iida Tenya said.
"It was, like a darkness with no dark, a light with no light," Tokoyami Fumikage chipped in.
"See? We all felt it, and-" before Denki could finish, something crashed into the ground of the backyard from several stories up, turning, they saw the girl lying there, winded. The next second, Ackerman came down, landing on the other girl's chest, pinning her arms and began to pound her.
Denki stared in shock as Ackerman swung at the girl. What was with the sudden hostility? She had seemed happy to see the girl at first!
"Mikasa!" Midoriya called from the balcony, "Mikasa, stop-"
Before he could finish, the wrongness came again, and suddenly the girl had vanished, Ackerman growled something out, and then vanished as the sickly feeling grew worse.
Midoriya swore, throwing himself over the edge and falling, just as quickly as the sickness faded, it was back again as Midoriya disappeared just before hitting the ground.
—
Eren Yeager was part of the group looking for where Annie Leonhart had escaped to when the young woman in question burst from nowhere, staggering backwards and now nursing a bloody nose. Before anyone could react, another young woman appeared just as suddenly, lunging for Annie only for her to dodge the punch and grab the arm, pulling it behind the woman and driving a knee into her back so she was pinning the struggling woman to the ground.
Eren barely noticed Armin land next to him as he stared at the young woman struggling to get Annie off of her. She was wearing a familiar red scarf over a white dress, slamming her free arm into the ground and digging her toes into it too.
Soft, unusual features, currently twisted into an unusually emotional snarl as what appeared to be scales crawled up her face, and as Annie twisted her arm , Eren saw a familiar A made of three blades tattoo'd on her wrist.
What- what had happened? How was she here? She had died at Trost!
A third person appeared then, a young man around Eren's age wearing a shirt with weird scribbles on it and pants that cut off at the knee. He raised a hand, and ropes of white light wrapped around Annie, pulling her off of Mikasa and binding her on her knees.
Mikasa whipped around, lunging at Annie only for ropes to appear from the other hand of the boy and wrap around her, dragging her until the boy could latch his arms around Mikasa's stomach loosely, whispering in her ear. Mikasa slowly stopped straining to get at Annie, falling back into the embrace. As she took a ragged breath in, Eren watched the scales begin to fade, being replaced with skin, her eyes, slitted and sharp, began to return to a regular shape and the pants of steaming air faded.
"Mikasa?" Eren asked, still feeling stunned as his adoptive sister took her eyes off Annie and looked at him, "that's, it's not you, is it?

Chapter Text
Mikasa strained against the ropes until she was in Izuku's embrace, him resting his chin on her shoulder. It was easy to tell he wasn't actually trying to stop her, his grip loose enough she could explode from it if she wanted to, "Hey, hey, hey, I know you're angry, and you're allowed to be, but you're dragonizing, calm down a bit, ok?"
Mikasa breathed out, steam coming from her mouth as she did so. Doing her best to calm down, she felt the scales fade away, her heated breath coming out cooler.
"Mikasa?" Mikasa's eyes flickered to the side, looking at Eren as he walked towards her, "that's, it's not you, is it?"
"It's me Eren," Mikasa said, freeing herself from Izuku's light hold and walking towards Eren and Armin.
"I- Eren rushed forwards, pulling Mikasa into a hug, which was unusual for him, "I thought you were dead. Armin said you just exploded in light at Trost."
"And I thought you were dead," Mikasa admitted as she saw Izuku walk over to Annie, crouching down in front of her with an aether weaved copy of a generic ODM gear sword. Reaching out, he set her nose, White magic flowing from his hand.
"Where have you been? You just disappear for months and show up beating up Annie? What the hell!"
"I would like to know that as well," a voice said as a man with neatly groomed blond hair landed, "I'm Erwin Smith, Commander of the Survey Corp. You've technically been absent without leave for months."
"With all due respect sir, I quit," Mikasa said bluntly.
A short man behind Erwin snorted at that, and Erwin continued, "We'll take custody of Leonhart from here, thank you both for the assist. She'll be interrogated-"
"Don't bother," Izuku said, staring at Annie intently, the blade gently touching her neck, "the moment I let these fade there's nothing keeping her on this Plane. You couldn't hold her if you wanted to. There's no escape artist like a Planeswalker."
"Planeswalker?" Erwin said, "and may I ask who you are?"
"Izuku Midoriya," he said, "and yes, Planeswalkers. Us rare few who can brave the Blind Eternities and travel to different worlds. Supposed to be a big secret, it's gonna be hell to wave it away back home, but you're military, I can trust you to keep the secret."
"So you say we can't hold her," Erwin continued, apparently undaunted by the revelation before him, "we need information she has, it's of vital importance."
"That's where we come in," Izuku said, in full "Planeswalker" mode, "Annie, Erwin, you ever heard the term "the carrot and the stick"?"
Annie nodded, as did Erwin.
"Well, that's what we're going to do basically. I have a friend that will let Annie stay until she's ready to talk, and if she tries to Planeswalk away without express permission, Mikasa will hunt her down and finish the job. That sound fair to everyone?"
"I'd say so," Erwin said.
"What about you, Annie?" Izuku asked her, the binding on her mouth fading.
"Do I really have a choice?" Annie asked.
"Of course you do, you can take the terms I'm offering you and stay on Plane Arrest," Izuku's eyes hardened as he pressed the blade against Annie's neck just enough to draw blood, "or I can decapitate you now and be done with it. When Planeswalkers clash, the only victory is forcing one to flee from the Plane or killing them. You hurt Mikasa, so while I recognize they," he gestured his head towards Erwin, "want you to answer questions, I really don't have any problem killing you. I won't take joy in it, but as Planeswalkers, we both have to play by Planewalkers' rules."
"Fine, I'll stay wherever you want," Annie said bitterly after a minute of struggling against her bindings.
"Atta girl," Izuju said, grabbing her by the upper arm and letting the bindings fade, "Mikasa, I'll leave you to your reunions, meet me at Tamiyo's when you're done.
With those words, the Blind Eternities opened as Izuku entered it with Annie.
"So," Eren said awkwardly, "can we take her back to the barracks?"
"Go ahead," Erwin said, clearly lost in thought.
—
Annie tried to resist glaring as they appeared in an alley. Izuku said, casually, "Can you promise me you won't just Planeswalk off if I let you go?"
"And get that beast hunting me?" Annie snarked, "I'll behave."
"Ok," Izuku lowered the blade and let go his grip on Annie, the ODM blade disappearing as he did, "Sorry about being so harsh back there, but you needed to learn how Planeswalkers live, and I needed to convince Smith that you would be taken care of."
"You were… Acting?" Annie asked in befuddlement.
"Not completely," Izuku admitted as they stepped out into the street, "You did hurt Mikasa somehow for her to react like that, so don't expect us to ever get too friendly, but on a personal level, I'm glad we were able to solve this with minimal bloodshed. I'm certainly glad I didn't have to kill you."
"How much of what you said is true?" Annie asked.
"Honestly, only that Planewalkers can escape from any capture that doesn't involve magic, and that Planeswalker fights end in death. A lot of times, Planeswalking off to another Plane just has them chase after you. Come on, try not to look too shocked."
"Shock-?" Annie cut herself off as they entered the main street only to be met with people that were distinctly not human. Floating people with alabaster white skin; human sized snakes with four arms and more walked through the busy street.
"Don't look shocked, it's making you stand out," Izuku said as he began to walk down the street, Annie following him.
"What are these things?"
"Did you think Humans were the only race in the Multiverse?" Izuku asked back, "Planes without multiple races are, at least, in the minority. Welcome to Kamigawa, a personal favorite plane of mine. Come on, let's get to where you're going to stay."
Annie followed Izuku through the long street where peddlers where calling out to people, advertising various strange chips, clothes and weapons. They finally arrived at a large estate, where Izuku pressed a button and politely waited until the door opened before walking in.
"Izuku," an alabaster man with long, bound ears said, "did you forget something here?"
"No, Genku, I need to ask a favor," Izuku bowed.
"Why do I feel you're about to make an outrageous request?"
"This is Annie Leonhart, at the risk of abusing your hospitality, I need her to stay here for an indefinite amount of time."
"And there it is," the man sounded more amused than anything, "Come in and explain the circumstances that led to this request."
They both walked in, Annie being forced to swap out her boots for slippers, and followed Genku into a large kitchen area.
"Now, what's the cause of your request?" Genku asked.
"Annie… Is a criminal with important information on her home Plane, to the point where they wanted to interrogate her. I promised to house her someplace she could feel comfortable enough to loosen up and reveal that information. The only place I could think of was here."
"And what assurances do I have that she won't hurt my family?"
"I wouldn't-" Annie started, but was cut off by Izuku.
"If she does, I'll slit my own belly in recompense," he said without a hint of fear and doubt, "I know she won't, it's in my gut."
—
Eren stared at Mikasa, trying to find something to say. They were sitting in the dusty barracks, Armin with them. Ultimately, it was he who broke the silence, "Mikasa, what happened to you that day? You just started glowing and then… Exploded."
"It's… It's called an Ignition. Sometimes, while in mortal danger or deep emotional moments, people with the Spark have it ignited. I didn't want to be here without Eren, I didn't really want to be anywhere without Eren, so my Spark Ignited and sent me off Plane, and I've seen so much I wish I could show you two since I left."
"Like what?" Eren asked, a gnawing sense of jealousy in his gut. She sounded so.. free.
A smile spread across Mikasa's face, and she said, "Planes where they have cities in the sky; where they have actual dragons; I've seen the sea on a few Planes now, and Armin's book was right, they're just as big and salty as it says; I've seen markets that make the biggest ones here look absolutely tiny; green pastures as far as the eye can see; I'm currently going to a school for Heroes; and there's no Titans. Other dangers, but not Titans."
"That sounds like… You've seen a lot since you left," was all Eren could say.
"And I've met many new friends since I left. People like me. There's Chandra, Tamiyo, Elspeth, Ajani and, of course, Izuku. I'll have to take pictures the next time I see them to show you."
"Pictures?" Armin said, "like, paintings?"
"No," Mikasa shook her head, "They have these things on other Planes called Cameras, you point it at something, press a button and it copies what it's looking at on a piece of paper."
"So, uh, what's your relationship with that Izuku guy?" Eren said.
Mikasa looked away, blushing, "We're, uh, we're dating. It's a lot like courtship but a lot more informal."
Eren felt a spike of jealous go through his gut, "Really?"
"He helped me a lot," Mikasa said, "when I thought you were dead, he worked hard to help me find a new life to live. He took me to a friend's house, brought me on adventures. He was just really kind and well meaning, he always is."
—
Lena stood with crossed arms looking at… Most of her class, "Forget about it."
"What, but-!" Kaminari started.
"It's confidential, Kaminari. Izuku and Mikasa can explain it if they want to, but I don't want anyone going around trying to force them to. I know what's going on, isn't that enough?"

Chapter 12: Interlude 2
Chapter Text
Annie woke up late again.
That alone was strange. Even before the three years within the walls as part of the 104 Trainee Corp, where they were up at five every day without fail, she had never been in a place where she could sleep as long as she wanted. Her father had woken her up early to train to become a Warrior for years.
Here, in Kamigawa, nobody seemed to care how much she slept. There was always at least some breakfast for her to warm up, even if it didn't seem very appealing as a breakfast to her. Rice, grilled fish, and dried seaweed, and other foods she could scarcely describe even now.
Still, she ate it without complaint, knowing she was lucky the family in charge of the house had let her stay. She didn't want to think of what methods Izuku would have resorted to if he couldn't get her to stay here.
Changing out of the strange pajamas she had been given upon arriving there, she slipped her feet into her slippers and walked down the hall. The family that were letting her stay were all gathered around the low sitting table, a spot left out for her. Taking her seat, she picked up the pair of sticks they ate with on this plane, much like the stories they heard about the East Sea countries in Marley.
After breakfast, she bid Tamiyo and Genku farewell for the day and left to go into the city. Wandering around the city for a few hours, she stopped by the lift leading to the ground. She hadn't roamed too far from Tamiyo's house yet, despite the “terms” of her holding letting her travel to anywhere in the Plane without punishment.
…Not today. Not until she figured out her problems.
Turning she walked back into the city. Walking to the park she had visited each of the last three days, she breathed in. Then she brought her hand up to her mouth and bit the webbing between her thumb and index finger hard enough to draw blood.
…
Nothing. No bolt of lightning, no flesh forming around her and fusing with her body, no sudden change of perspective, not even smoke rising from her bite marks to heal it. Nothing.
She didn't get it. Had becoming a Planewalker affected her being a Titan Shifter? If so, how? Was she free from the Curse of Ymir? Had some child in Pardis or Maley been born with the power of the Female Titan? How would she possibly go home to her father when she had lost the Female Titan? She would be punished, he would be punished.
Dropping her hand with a sigh, she walked back towards Tamiyo's house. It had been a good few hours, enough to say she had wasted the day away.
Entering it, she heard a commotion in the backyard. Changing her slippers and following, she found a large, red, winged lizard laying curled on the ground, hissing and roaring as Genku applied some sort of medication to a seres of holes in its hide.
Izuku was resting against a pillar, Tamiyo hunched over him as white and green energy swirled from her arm and around his chest.

Chapter 13: Chapter 10
Chapter Text
It was Friday morning, and the entire class was sitting on a bus going to an off site training site. Izuku could feel several pairs of eyes on him and Mikasa, he knew they were wondering what, exactly, had happened, both to Annie and just in general, but he had kept hush about it up to this point. He would probably let them in on the secret eventually, but he had to know he could trust them first.
The bus stopped outside a massive, domed building, and they filed out of the bus and into the grand building. Standing there waiting for them was a woman in a spacesuit standing there waiting for them, a gasp coming from Uraraka.
"It's the Space Hero: Thirteen," Izuku explained to Mikasa who nodded.
"Hello everyone!" Thirteen said happily, "Welcome to the Universal Simulation Joint, or USJ! Here, you'll be practicing in zones I've designed around simulating various common types of disasters. Landslides, fires, downpours, floods! You can learn about them safely in this facility. Now, I want to establish one thing, ah, maybe two… Three? Probably fo-"
Izuku was broken from his thoughts as Mikasa nudged him, directing her head toward a mass of black smoke forming in front of the fountain at the center of the USJ. Out of it walked a tattooed, blue haired young woman in an almost cautious, frightened way, "I'm sorry, am I in the wrong place?" she asked, a childish tone to her voice that made Izuku's neck hairs stand on end.
They were proven right when a pair of grenades rolled into her hands and she pulled the pins with her teeth, throwing them at 1-A. Izuku went to make a barrier, only for Oxton-Sensei to grab a pair of guns off her hips and blow the grenades out of the air. The smoke behind the woman exploded outwards and a crowd of people came out.
Villains.
They were under attack, "Everyone, to the door!
As they turned, the black smoke appeared around them, swallowing much of the class whole. Izuku reached for Mikasa. Their fingers an inch apart when they were both ripped away from each other, Izuku rolling down a craggy mass of rocks back first until he could deploy his ODM gear to stop himself.
Looking around, Izuku immediately confirmed they were still in the USJ as he caught Jiro, who had tumbled out right after him, with one hand. Izuku put her down and drew his swords as villains approached them.
—
Mikasa tumbled from high up towards a burning city block. Deploying one line of her ODM gear, it caught on air and turned her fall into a swing. Flipping in air, she landed, activating her energy katanas as she did. Whipping around, she cut down two villains as she began to dragonize. Muscles bulged, teeth turned into fangs, pupils slitted and scales began to crawl up her skin, "Izuku, I have to find Izuku."
She fired her lines, approaching the door to the area as she cut down villain after villain.
—
Lena "Tracer" Oxton was skipping through time as fast as her chronal accelerator would let her, dodging behind villains to avoid the thrown explosives from the blue haired Planeswalker. Was that… It couldn't be Powder, was it?
Bursting from behind a pink heteromorph as they collapsed from the explosives, Tracer lined up her pulse pistols and let loose, micro bursts of plasma dancing along the ground until they hit the large, black, bird heteromorph with an exposed brain, "Nomu", who soaked them without fear or, really, any reaction at all.
Tracer dodged to the side as two more grenades came flying at her, how many did that girl have?
Suddenly, spiked wires embedded themselves in Nomu, lightning coursing down them and causing the man to spasm, nearly hitting the blue haired young man behind him. Izuku came flying in, pulled forwards by the strings and delivered a kick enhanced by more electricity to Nomu's side, before planting both fists onto Nomu and causing everyone to be blown back by the burst of lightning he released.
Nomu stood still for a long moment, smoking and smelling of char…
Then it lashed out, hitting Izuku in the chest and sending him flying across the USJ until he slammed into the staircase leading to the exit. He staggered back up for a second, only to puke out blood and collapse backwards, eyes glassy.
Tracer rushed in then, pulling out her pulse bomb and throwing it at the blue haired woman, only for Nomu to rush in front of it and take the brunt of the explosion as Tracer rewound herself backwards and away from it.
Risking a glance backwards, she saw a fully scaled up Mikasa having rushed over to Izuku, lifting his head.
—
Mikasa fumbled with a pouch on her harness as she stared at Izuku. He was breathing, shallowly, but his eyes were staring at nothing. He was, by all rights, unconscious to the world.
"Come on," she muttered, pulling out the vial of Halo. The iridescent elixir floated in the vial like air, but when she pulled the cork, none came out. Pouring the contents of the vial down Izuku's throat, Mikasa held her breath.
Izuku's eyes jittered, then snapped to attention, glowing pure green, and he focused straight ahead, past Mikasa and at Nomu. Magic lifted him so he was hovering above the ground and he pointed one finger at the black bird thing. A single word in the ancient language of the Thran echoed from his mouth, reverberating through the air and Mikasa's bones.
"Vanish."
If the effect on Mikasa was shocking, what happened to the creature was even worse. It's entire body flaked away, disintegrating into nothing as if…
As if it had been cast into the Blind Eternities. Mikasa watched in awe as Izuku flayed the beast to the soul.
Then, Oxton let out a cry of warning and they both turned to see a rocket with a shark's grin painted on it spiraling towards them. Izuku raised a hand, and a golden barrier formed before them, the missile crashing against it harmlessly.
Then Izuku choked on blood, collapsing again. Damn, not a big enough dose, and she didn't have more.
Mikasa lowered herself onto all fours, feeling her clothes sink into her scaled skin, winged membranes spread from her back, her teeth becoming more jagged and her face became elongated into a snout. Lunging forward, flames rolled from her mouth and towards the blue haired girl only for her to snap up… Oh, that was a minigun.
Oh, that was a minigun.
Breaking off her strafing run, she caught Oxton's eye, who nodded, Mikasa felt holes tear into her side as the apparently magic minigun filled her with holes. At the same time, Oxton jolted forwards before tackling the girl into the Blind Eternities while Mikasa grabbed Izuku and did the same.
She crash landed on the back lawn of Tamiyo's estate, drawing the attention of said woman and her husband.
"Mikasa?" Tamiyo asked, only for Mikasa to let her hold on Izuku fade, another spitful of blood rolling from his mouth and down his chin, "Genku, tend to Mikasa, I'll heal Izuku."
Mikasa tried to growl out a thank you, only to flop onto her side instead.
