Chapter 1: "Let me do it."

Chapter Text

“Why don’t you just let me do it?”

Wolf pulls the phone back against his chest and bats Josh’s outstretched hand away.

“No, I’m supposed to be learning. You’re supposed to be teaching me.”

“I’m trying, but you don’t seem to be getting it. I just want to help—just a little. Let me upload the photo for you.”

He reaches out again and Wolf scoots back on the bed, putting more space between them.

“Is this what you do with your interns? You step in and take over the second they’re struggling?”

“If we’re dealing with a patient's brain and it’s life or death, sure. If it’s posting to Instagram…" Josh scratches thoughtfully at the morning scruff that's covering his jaw. "Can't say it’s ever come up.”

“I’m going to learn,” Wolf says with finality as he flips the phone over. “Is this right?”

Josh lifts his head to the pillow and squints at the screen—too bright in the dim room.

“You’re posting it as a story—which is fine—,” he adds quickly when Wolf frowns. “But it’ll disappear in twenty four hours.”

“What’s the point of that?”

“It’s less official than posting to the grid, I guess. But if you wanted to save it you could post it as a highlight—but then you’d need to create a highlight reel to save it to. But since you posted it, you’d technically always be able to see it, you’d just have to search for it in your settings. Even I get confused about that.”

Wolf’s brows pull together and Josh nudges him with his foot.

“Just stick to the grid for now. Hit the plus sign at the bottom of the screen and pick your photo then you can add a filter if you want.”

“A filter?”

“Lesson for another time,” Josh tells him. “Just hit next, then add your caption.”

“A caption?”

“You don’t need one. It doesn’t matter, Carol and I are the only ones following you so we’re the only ones that are gonna see it. Although Dr. Dang is going to find you soon. Surprised she hasn’t already. She was following me within the hour on her first day.”

“I don’t know if I like that,” Wolf says. “I don’t think the interns need to know what I’m doing on my time off.”

“Because it’s so scandalous,” Josh teases as he stretches, cat-like.

Wolf lowers the phone so he can look his fill.

His eyes linger over the way Josh’s t-shirt pulls over his biceps. The way it rides up over his hip. The soft, pale skin of his inner thigh. The oddly delicate bones of his ankles. The smirk on his face and the arch of his brow when he catches Wolf staring.

Wolf drops his phone and crawls forward until he can throw a leg over Josh’s hips, settle onto his lap, and kiss him.

Josh hums happily into the kiss, cupping his hands to Wolf’s face before sliding them down his neck and across his shoulders before they skate down his sides.

He stops at the hem of Wolf’s shirt and tugs and Wolf leans back, smiling when Josh chases after.

“No,” Wolf says as he grabs at the hem of his shirt. “Let me do it.”
