Chapter 1: Colony 9 Connections
Summary:
Although A knew Shulk well from their shared time as Liberators, that still left more Bionites left for A to meet again.
Chapter Text
If one was walking around at the edge of Colony 9, one would see a person with silver hair standing in front of the house belonging to the family of the former heir of the Monado, the host of Meyneth, and their son. One could also tell the person stalling knocking on the door.
Shulk had given A the chance to reintroduce to his former party members, but A couldn’t help but stall. A very much knows why: other than Shulk and Melia, none of them had seen A’s new appearance yet. Previously, A wouldn’t care about something petty like that, but that was before getting a chance to live like a person .
Having proper emotions was exhausting to the being once known as Ontos. Although keeping externally composed like normal, in secret A’s heart was beating rapidly with nervousness. A knocked on the door anyway, because, even with those nerves, A would rather die than let Rex be right in that strange, sibling-in-law way.
The door swung inward, and out poked Shulk. “Happy to see you came. Nikol’s being looked at by Vangare; it’s only us seven, like you asked. We’ve got some food cooked up if you-” Shulk took a glance at A’s outfit and frowned. “You’re wearing your armour. Do you not have any casual clothing?”
A’s eyes rolled upon hearing Shulk’s question. “Aren’t you the one who has a dozen copies of the same sweater? If it bothers you, I can put on Alpha’s clothing if you think that’s ‘casual’ enough.” A stated before raising a hand. Changing clothes at will was a convenient, if rather mundane, power.
“No, that’s fine. Not sure if I want to see those again anytime soon.” Shulk turned his head back to the interior of the house and yelled at the other occupants. “Alvis is here!” Shulk turned back towards A. “Everyone’s changed since you’ve last seen them, but they’re not strangers. Don’t treat them like they are.”
A followed Shulk into the house, passing by photos of events that passed by in the over 20 years since A returned to the Ontos core after the death of Zanza. Shulk and Fiora’s wedding day, Nikol’s first birthday, and other memories put on the wall that A missed the chance to be part of.
Once A entered the common room, it was clear that A was now the primary focus of everyone in the room. The people who were in the midst of doing other activities like eating food, talking, or playing card games were now focused on the return of the one who played them like fiddles during the fight against Zanza.
“Well, that’s not something I was expecting.” Dunban admitted when he sees A. The former Hero of the Homs wasn’t the only one to have such a visual reaction. Melia, being the only person other than Shulk that had seen A beforehand, was actively suppressing a smirk from watching her friends’ facial expressions.
Reyn squinted at A’s direction, seemingly in outright disbelief. “Sorry, is this a prank? I know Alvis is supposed to be some all-powerful AI and that junk, but I’m supposed to believe Alvis now looks… well, like this. You’d think Alvis woulda chose a better barber, at least.” Sharla proceeded to pinch Reyn for his jab.
“Well, I see Reyn is as blunt with his mouth as always.” A snarked back at the former soldier. “Frankly, Reyn, at least none of us here have to worry about you dropping us into a pit of water again. That is something that would make anyone frustrated with you.”
A grumble of “you really are Alvis” emitted from Reyn as he walked off. A didn’t know what else to do in the moment until Shulk pointed to the table, at the food that had been laid out. A saw there were fruits and vegetables, thankfully the person would have questioned their dietary habits.
A quietly grabbed a tiny amount of salty crackers from the spread of food before sitting on one of the arranged seats in the common area. It was quite strange, as up until now A was always going one place or another in this strange new world, that simply sitting down and ‘hanging out’ felt alien.
Melia was the first to approach A; not all that surprising, given how A had served as the seer for the High Entian royal family. “I assume you’ve been well. You being here is admittedly quite odd; I will admit I believed that you were gone from my life forever after you disappeared.”
“I understand why you would believe that. One of the last things you did tell me was ‘Alvis, you traitor.’” A admitted to the High Entian empress. “I hope there is no bad blood between us. That would make the difficulty of keeping everything stable in the post-Intersection world more difficult.”
Melia gave a small smile at A’s statement, before putting a hand on her own chin. “If you’re interested, you can become my seer once again. If I say that you’re a relative of my old seer, there’s not many that would try to refute me. If you’re interested in it, of course.”
A thought about it for a second, literally. “I am going to have to refuse, Melia. Our fates will cross each other’s quite frequently, but it will not be with me as your employed seer. I could help you in other ways, if need be. I could give you advice on consort courtsh-”
Melia laughs out loud before planting a hand over her mouth. “There is no need for unsolicited advice, even from my former seer. I’m assuming Shulk was the one who told you that, but believe me, I can handle that on my own. If anything, it’s you that shall need help in the coming days.“
A sat there for a moment, wondering why Melia so changed topics. A felt there was valuable discussion that could have been had in the conversation, given that Melia is still the last Antiqua, but Melia walked away before A could figure out a solution for Melia’s problem. A was earnest in A’s desire in helping.
A brought attention to the Ontos core hanging from A’s own ear. “Shulk told me how he found my core on the beach just outside Colony 9 sometime after you reclaimed Alcamoth. It was you who called ‘a gift from Alvis’. Just what inspired you to use it in the Bionis side of Origin?”
“Learning about our Alrest counterparts was part of it. They did have your sisters.” Melia admitted to the formerly lost sibling of the two cores. “The major reason, though, was the belief you had left it behind for a reason. That you had designs for us to save ourselves once again.”
“I guess one could say that.” A knows that in the case of Shulk and Na’el that the core was drawn to them, that they were the ones who could use the power of Ontos. That they used the core for opposite purposes only drives home how dangerous Ontos without Logos or Pneuma around.
A recalled a conversation the two had, right before Melia went to fight the Leone Telethia that would later kill Melia’s knights. Alvis had warned Melia about the dangers of visions, and how they could easily deceive one into believing the opposite effect. A could only think about this relating to Origin.
Melia stood up, before handing the Monado Fencer a glass that smelled of fruit. “It was good to see you again, but I shall not hog you. You should know I am not the only one wishing to speak with you tonight. I wish you a good evening, seer”
A wondered what could have happened had A, back then as Alvis, not returned to the core after the death of Zanza. Would Alvis still had worked as Melia’s seer, as the source of Shulk’s rejected godhood, as a potential true ally, or had all of the bridges been burned after the secrecy and betrayal.
A didn’t have long to dwell on those thoughts, a poke on the shoulder made A turn to see Sharla and Reyn had somehow snuck up on A. Seeing the two of them again was somewhat strange now; beyond the obvious of them looking older, Reyn and Sharla were long since married.
Reyn was the first to speak up, putting his hand on the back of his head. “I want to apologise for my dig against you earlier. I just wasn’t expectin’ you to have changed so much since I last saw ya, that’s all. I don’t want there to be any hard feelings.”
A had a feeling it was Sharla who demanded Reyn apologise to A, the pinching was pretty obvious, but A decided to let that observation be secret for now. “I will accept your apology. You assisted Shulk with his journey 23 years ago without hesitation, so despite my misgivings towards your joking attitude, you are a true ally.”
Reyn reached out for a fist bump, and to A’s own surprise A was genuinely missing being able to return one. From A’s perspective, it had been 1000 years since becoming the Avatar of Origin after Alpha’s defeat plus the 6 days since the intersection, and A was sorrowful about not having Matthew around anymore.
“Now that you two are made up, there’s something I’ve been worrying about since we were told about the Aionios problem you were reawakened in.” Sharla was sitting down now, directly across from A. “Panacea refuses to tell us, but I have a feeling you know whether or not she… she died in there.”
“From my position as the avatar of Origin, I can assure you that Panacea made it to the end of Aionios intact.” A feels revealing this information is fine; Sharla was naturally worried about her daughter. “She had to go by different aliases a few times as a result of not aging, but she survived until Z was destroyed.”
The tension dissipating from Sharla and Reyn was visible just from their change in stance. Their inability to remember their time in Aionos, however brief it was, made A internally question why the only people to recall it in any shape were in the single digits. Something to work on later, A supposes.
Sharla was the one to speak next. “Well, that’s good to hear. I want to thank you for helping Shulk keep an eye on Panacea when you reappeared in Aionios. From what little I’ve been able to learn about that, Panacea wasn’t in the best circumstances until you encountered her and Shulk.”
“I was following my mission of defeating Alpha; Panacea mostly kept herself safe. All that was needed from me was some nudging in the right direction.” A relayed to the duo, before giving a brief smirk. The two of them walked away without any more words from them, somehow leaving behind a sandwich on A’s plate without A noticing.
This was the second time someone left just as quickly as they came. A was beginning to wonder if there was some scheme, that the party of seven was planning something behind A’s back. If this was a practical joke, A would’ve at least appreciated them not using food as part of the scheme.
A sat there for a while, just watching the rest of the group take part in whatever activities that they had set up. A was feeling somewhat out of place. The rest of them had decades to get close to each other, while A was unused to social settings that weren’t formal meetings.
That was something the Monado fencer missed when being stuck surrounded by the others in Cent-Omnia: that none of them had to deal with this. “Sometimes I wonder how I’m not going mad by all the weirdness arou-” A didn’t get to finish the sentence, as someone else walked up as A talked to A’s self.
“Well, from that sharp tongue it seems you really are Alvis after all.” Fiora jokes as she sits across from A. “Although, isn’t it just A now? Shulk, from what he told me, said you were going by that during the whole Aionios problem. Is it a problem with being called Alvis?”
A took notes of Fiora’s appearance. She had kept the short hair from her time as a Face unit; the only immediate reminder of that experience that A could see. She had kept her looks intact even though she’s now 40, the faint changes of her face being the only indication of true age.
“I would rather be called A for now, but I would not mind if any of you called me Alvis.” A answered Fiora’s question earnestly, not particularly caring if any of them used the name. Them being some of the only people who knew A in A’s previous form gave them that privilege.
“I don’t believe we ever had the chance to introduce ourselves back then, anyway.” Fiora did have a point: the party only had roughly half a day between the party returning to Colony 6 after the events at the Mechonis Core and Alvis’ betrayal. “We have that chance now: hello, I’m Fiora.”
“Well then Fiora, what pray tell has been on your mind since I arrived?” A saw no harm in indulging in Fiora’s request; from Shulk talking about her, A believes she could be valuable to overcoming the blocks that A could not see a way around. It did not hurt Fiora was much more sociable than others.
“You were the source of Meyneth’s Monado, right? For the time Meyneth inhabited my body, I had a connection to your power.” Fiora did have a point; during the brief time Fiora wielded the Meyneth Monado, they were bonded like Shulk was to his Monado. “Are you able to summon that form of it again?”
A’s head shook with rejection. “That is something that was lost when Zanza was slayed by Shulk’s hand. With Meyneth having already died and me subsequently returning to my core, there was no source of power for the blade to manifest. I could attempt to reform them, but it would be harder without Meyneth’s life force.”
Fiora’s face shifted as she thought over the possibility, and A could tell she was intrigued. This was put to a stop shortly, though. “Nah, I’m fine with what I got now. As tempting as having the power of Mechonis is-” Fiora raised her hands up in emphasis. “I’ll stick with what Shulk makes me.”
“I will admit, Shulk recreating the Monado’s power, without the visions of course, using technology was something that intrigued me when I encountered him again.” A, though rather terse about it, was rather impressed by Shulk’s mechanical skills. “Did he offer you the same for the technology you had as a Face Mechon?”
“Not only has he offered, he gifted me some without me even asking.” Fiora pointed at the fireplace, a pair of blades resembling the Meyneth Monado resting crossed above it. “Shulk gave me those as an anniversary gift. Of course, it was from him so I cherish being able to use them, but…”
That was when Shulk came by once more, seemingly offended by Fiora’s comment. “I might not have been the best gift giver, but the wear and tear on those blades doesn't hide that Fiora really does use those whenever she gets into her commander role. Fiora’s a terror when there’s enemies that need to be defeated.”
He sat down next to Fiora, giving her a kiss on the cheek. Being able to see how much they loved each other after seeing their interactions decades ago and hearing about it for so long in Aionios made A realise just why these two were inseparable: their bond was stronger than even fate.
“So, have you acclimated to being a normal person?” Shulk asked while making a motion to the room around them. “Talking to anyone, making new friends? If you’re still having trouble I’d be happy to show you around Colony 9 and get you introduced to the townsfolk.”
A didn’t really know how to respond to what Shulk was saying, a first for the person. “I feel… out of place. Like I’m not supposed to be here. Both times after the mission that drove my existence was over, I disappeared. Vanished into the ether, content with knowing what I protected would carry on.”
“And now, you get to have a life beyond all that.” It was like one could see the gears of Shulk’s brain turn. “With that, you have no idea how to live like the rest of us. You get to drive your own destiny now, but you don’t know where to go with it.”
“In many words, yes.” A still felt as though there was some goal in life A should be striving for, what it is A had no idea. “My being is one that always had some goal to strive for, some enemy to defeat. Getting an opportunity beyond that doesn’t feel right.”
Shulk shrugs his shoulders and points at A’s Ontos core. “You earned it, though. You help save the worlds, and now you get a chance to actually live in them. Something that puts you beyond just being a Trinity Processor, or a seer, or a Moebius hunter. No matter what, I’d be willing to help you figure it out. We all are.”
It was in Shulk’s nature, A believed, that he would continue trying to help A with these matters. A had seen the way he interacted with Nikol during their time in Aionos; even with Nikol unaware of their relation, Shulk’s paternal instincts shone when he was assisting Nikol with what the boy needed.
A looked at Shulk again, the person sighing as A tried to come up with something to say. “I know you mean well, but I am not sure how you would be able to assist me. My experiences give me a perspective on existence that goes far beyond the mind of …”
A suddenly lost the urge to keep talking, like A’s body decided to rebel against what A was saying. The silver-haired person’s shoulders slumped, seemingly conceding defeat to Shulk’s point. “I just don’t know. It’s difficult to admit, but I am scared. For the first time in my existence, something I’m not confident in doing…”
“That’s one of the first steps in success, realising the possibility of failure. I’ve learned that from working on my machines, from my experiences with the Monado. Your Monado, I should add.” Shulk gave a small congratulation to A, before putting a hand on A’s shoulder. “Do something you haven’t before. See how that works.”
A can understand where Shulk is coming from, but even then A would still have problems. A has done much in their long existence. What could A do that A has not already done? The time A spent deceiving Zanza meant long having to act like a normal person, even if it was only an act.
“That’s going to be far harder than you think, Shulk.” A admitted to Shulk, who silently shrugged once more. “If what you want is for me to not act as aloof, that is just part of my nature. Something that was encoded by Klaus himself, back when Logos and Pneuma needed an arbiter.”
“Klaus never had the chance to give you a life like he did for Pyra and Mythra.” Shulk made a notion to A’s Ontos core once more. “In spite of that, you have that chance now. Getting a chance to live in the reunited world you helped create, that can be your reward. Only if you take it.”
A does understand what Shulk was saying, but there still is something A had to question. “When did you learn to speak as though you're a philosopher? Last I recall, you are still a machinist by trade. I do not imagine you picked this up by toying with robots.”
“Becoming a dad.” Shulk stated, a warm smile appearing on his face. “Having no parents of my own, I had to learn parenting as it was occurring. Having a kid that shares a special interest in machines, a kid that shares the nonstandard brain I had to deal with growing up.”
Shulk stood up to get directly in front of A to give A one more directive. “Try learning some new activity if you get the chance. Put your skills somewhere else and see if you’d figure out something else you like. With that, what do you say? Ready to figure yourself out?”
A’s mind turned its cogs as A thought. “I remember an offer you made during a talk we had, so while I am in Colony 9 for the time being I will use your spare room. That is, if you haven’t been using it as storage for your mechanical scrap.”
Fiora turned to Shulk and laughed. “Well, that’s the first I’ve heard about his offer. Either way, with you around it’ll be wonderful. You’d be a great help whipping some of the trainees into place. Maybe in return we’d help you with Pyra and Mythra. Will tomorrow work?”
“Eh, no.” A stated rather bluntly in rejection. “After being reminded how exhausting it is to be around you all, I might need a few days before I attempt to communicate with them.”

    Damn nerves.

“Wouldn’t want to give them a bad first impression, after all.”
Chapter 2: The Big Meeting
Summary:
Pyra and Mythra finally get to meet their sibling.
Chapter Text
Spending time amongst the people of Colony 9 was a peculiar experience for A. A few days passed since A began staying in Shulk’s house and being around others that had no knowledge of A’s true nature, and just how A took part in pivotal moments in the history of their world, let A get a new perspective on why Shulk rejected godhood.
A got in contact with Rex to arrange a meeting between A and Pyra and Mythra. A didn’t get to talk directly to them over their computer, but Rex did give a location of where they were all planning on meeting. A did worry with how dramatically Rex talked about where they were supposed to meet.
This brought A to Alba Cavanich, capital city of the Empire of Mor Ardain and one of the larger cities of Alrest. The landscape surrounding the city reminded A of Sword Valley, back when the Mechonis’ sword was not in the bottom of the ocean; from what A saw, it was even once as barren.
A made the way to the city’s shopping center in the city center. For what reason, A was requested to meet them here. The change in pace from the much more subdued Colony 9 was stark; maybe that was part of a joke, A thought to see how much A was willing to tolerate.
Even through the busy crowd, A’s target was easy to spot from their appearance. A pair of women, one blonde wearing white and gold and the redhead wearing mostly red, were deep in conversation as A walked up to them. The two of them turned around to face A, them both focusing on their guest.
“So, you must be our sibling, eh?” Mythra questions while sizing up A. The gold eyes focused on A; A knew the two of them shared the ability to see into the future, but whether Mythra was doing that now A had no clue. “I’m gonna be honest, I was expecting you to look more like us.”
“Don’t mind her brashness; we’re just so excited to meet you.” Pyra takes A’s gloved hand into her own. Even through the glove, A could feel the heat emanating from the redhead’s skin. Fitting for the most powerful fire Blade to ever exist, A supposes. “How have you been feeling since coming here, do you need us to show you around?”
“N-no, I am quite alright. Rex gave me the directions on how to find this place when he said to meet you here.” A tried to withdraw the hand from Pyra’s grasp, but Pyra’s grip was surprisingly strong.. “Apologies, I am not one for physical affection. I hope that does not offend you.”
“Oh, sorry. I understand.” Pyra let go of A’s hand, before putting her own hands together. “I’ve been waiting for the day we could meet, in person and without having to deal with a world-ending crisis. I know it might be too much too soon, but if you’d be willing to come back with us-”
Mythra interrupted Pyra’s excitement with a laugh. “Don’t overwhelm A just yet, you might scare ‘em away.” The gold-eyed Aegis turned her attention towards A, before putting a hand on her own chin. “I never thought we’d get the chance to be face to face. Who knew all it would take is an apocalypse?”
A’s first impression of the two was… surprising, if A had to put it in a single word. It was clear that they were very earnest in their desire, and from what A knew about Alrest this was the first time they could have a sibling that was not each other or trying to kill them.
For 500 years of existence, the Aegis was seen as nothing more than a superweapon. Something that would damn the world if it was ever recovered. Through meeting Rex and giving faith in humanity back to Klaus, not only was the world saved it gave Mythra and Pyra a chance to live proper lives.
“I, for one, did not anticipate the twin worlds to start drifting back together. Nor was having Origin malfunction, even as my core served as the foundation.” Knowledge of Alrest was something that A only had by proxy of Zanza’s connection to the Architect, and much like Zanza couldn’t see past Klaus’ demise.
Pyra smirked at A’s comment, before pointing at one of the buildings. “In any case, we were just getting ready to do some clothes shopping. I don’t know if your armour is the only clothes you have or not, but it would be good to look around. Maybe you’ll find something new to try.”
A was taken back for a moment on how Pyra could’ve heard about that, before A’s mind immediately found a target. “Did you get that from Shulk? That little- I promise you I have a wardrobe, I just find these comfortable, that’s all. There is no need to-” A didn’t finish before both Aegises grabbed A’s wrists and started moving.
Once again, A had ended up far out of A’s comfort zone against A’s own will. A was telling the truth about the wardrobe, even if A was neglecting to mention that the vast majority of the wardrobe was of the same outfit. What did anyone else have to judge, given their own repeating wardrobes?
The inside of the store reminded A of the aesthetics of Alcamoth, given its appearance of a marble-like metal interior. It felt somewhat more comforting than the black metal that made up most of Alba Cavanich that unfortunately resembled Origin’s interior. A would rather feel that atmosphere for quite some time.
Something A did note is that barely anyone paid them any mind. One would think that the appearance of two of Alrest’s heroes dragging someone literally by the wrists would’ve brought them more attention, but apparently Ardanians were a stubborn bunch. At least it allowed the three to get around without being constantly mobbed.
Mythra pointed at some of the clothing isles before shrugging at A. “I’m not sure what your style is, what kind’ve clothes you like, but there is a lot here. I would’ve hooked you up with Vale to get you a custom set like us, but she’s busy dealing with a backlog for her shop.”
A was about to tell Mythra that A did not know who Vale is, but that wasn’t something to focus on. Instead, A went and looked at some of the selections the store had. There were some dresses and suits, more masculine styled shirts and pants, and fur-collared jackets that A didn’t need more of.
A didn’t really know what to get. Back when A was known as Alvis, his clothing was merely a formality; something to be worn for purpose and not fashion. This was the first time that A had to consider just what A’s tastes were when it came to these matters, and free will was failing A.
“If you’re having issues trying to figure out what to get, why not get everything?” Pyra offered a solution to A’s conundrum. “We’re buying, so you don’t have to worry about paying anything yourself. I just want you to express yourself, beyond the purpose that Ontos played as part of the processor.”
What A was hearing from Pyra

    was

temping; it would just be easier to buy it all. Despite that, there was a nagging feeling of potentially wasting Pyra and Mythra’s money. What if they suddenly got hit with financial problems? Sudden emergency that couldn’t be dealt with because of the missing funds?

…A was already walking up to the employee with the list of what A wanted to buy. The employee demanded that for everything A would need to be fitted. A tried to dissuade them otherwise but they were not budging. It was only Mythra’s intervention that got A to agree to do the fitting.
Another brand new feeling was getting measured for the clothing to fit properly. Luckily, the employee did not need to take much time before it was considered acceptable. They said it would take some time to refit everything and they would contact Mythra and Pyra when they were done. Pyra simply paid them before they all left.
A knew that their current clothing was not what they manifested as Blades. Their outfits were closer to Shulk’s permanently staying sweater than any armour. They styled differently in their clothing, one of the few immediately noticeable differences in appearance between the twins, even if the word was not completely accurate.
“Was that all that you had on the agenda today?” A questions as the trio walk out of the store. “I would rather this not be the only task we do today; it would rather be quite boring otherwise.” Despite the initial misgiving, A does find being with Pyra and Mythra enjoyable.
“Of course not; this was just something that Shulk asked us to get out of the way-” Mythra stopped what she was saying once she realised. “Oops, didn’t mean to admit that. Regardless, it would be best if you have something other than your armour. Trust me, you’ll find how uncomfortable it’ll get in Ardainian heat.”
A wondered why Mythra was complaining, given what constituted her ‘armour’, but that got A to smirk for the first time since the day-out started. “Regardless of the intention, I must say it is interesting to do normal activities such as this. I would have assumed you two would be able to change clothes using your core.”
“Oh, that’s something we can do.” Pyra tapped on her green core, switching to her normal armour before switching back to her casual wear. “It would’ve gotten old only having this for a choice of outfit; we got some other clothes when we were sharing the same body, but we only got a full wardrobe after the split.”
“That was something I was wondering about. Klaus gave you two separate bodies as one last gift, if I am correct, but I am perplexed by this status.” A made a motion at the Pneuma core of the green processor’s halves. “How exactly does the Pneuma core function if it is divided like this?”
Mythra and Pyra glanced at each other, before Pyra spoke up again. “That’s something even we have questions about. Our cores still collect data from the world’s Blades and we still have connection to what’s left of the World Tree’s computer systems, but what that means when comparing our cores to your’s…”
“-Is that they can’t be compared easily.” Mythra finished the rest of what Pyra was saying, before making a motion towards her own ear. “What about your core? Why’s it an earring? Shulk said that you had it on your chest like us on your old body, so it’s not like that’s unprecedented.”
A really did not know how to answer the question in few words, but A presumed Mythra would not accept that. “To keep it short, when I was split from Alpha during the fight between Alpha-Na’el and Moebius N by the blast of your energy, I adopted some attributes from them. And Shulk.”
“I do have to say, it was weird being semi-conscious within Matthew’s gauntlets when you were around. Your energy was strange to be around; even weirder when we clashed against the Sword of the End.” It was only Pyra saying this that made A realise they were aware of their status in Aionios. Another miscalculation.
“Believe me, I had no clue you were with Matthew the entire time.” A felt a bit of heat in A’s cheeks, a strange feeling of embarrassment arising. “Why did it take you so long until you showed up, anyway? I would’ve believed Glimmer showing up was a good enough reason to manifest.”
“Part of Z’s influence on Origin basically acted as an anti-Aegis field.” Mythra began to explain with some minor annoyance in her voice. “Even that boring dumbass knew we were a threat to him, so outside of some major crisises we had little ability to interfere, like a lightshow or vibration.”
“Regardless of how you were able to exist in Aionios, you were nonetheless an important part of the final batch of Ouroboros awakening Nia, freeing Melia, and stopping Z.” A responded before turning back again, not being able to resist correcting Mythra’s grammar. “The word you were looking for was ‘crises’.”
The three were walking throughout the conversation, the twin halves of Pneuma leading A to another establishment in Alba Cavanich. From what A could tell from the shop’s sign, it seemed to be one for music. A once again wondered who it was that told Pyra and Mythra of the interest A had.
The shop itself was quant, a storefront with a multitude of instruments being shown off for potential buyers. The music makers looked familiar, but each one had a quirk about them that made it clear it originated from Alrest. A had no clue how the organ even fit in the shop.
Pyra pointed at the wall of string instruments that were on display. “We saw you were a lutenist when you helped Glimmer with that old lute she found. I thought you could pick that up again now that you don’t have to deal with the fate of the world that much nowadays.”
Of course, their core being manifested as part of Matthew’s gauntlets meant that they were around A from when A first rescued Matthew to becoming part of Origin’s core. So close to reuniting with Rex, with Glimmer, yet so far. A could not help but feel remorseful A was unable to help them.
A’s eyes widened at the price tag on one of the fancier lutes, a testament of how expensive the instrument was. “How on earth are you able to afford all of this? Even with your status, your spending habits make me worry about the status of your children.”
Mythra chuckled in response to A’s worry. “Rex does run both a successful mercenary company, on top of being the literal top ranking salvager in the Salvager’s guild. And that Nia has a big wallet from her current queen thing. Let’s just say Rex knew how to use premium cylinders to their best potential.”
It turns out Rex’s constant talk about salvaging really did mean something, A figures. From what Pyra was saying, it was almost like Rex had figured out some sort of exploit regarding how to get G the fastest way possible. That couldn’t have been true, A thought, but it did pique A’s interest.
“I hope you know that your attempt at bribing me with gifts is not working.” A stated, even as A took a lute off the wall rack. A smile appeared on Pyra’s face as A did so, seemingly confirming that it was all part of her plan. A can not believe A had been tricked like this.
Pyra’s smile continues even as she hands the Gs to the shop owner. “Something tells me that you’re not being entirely honest with yourself A. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you are.” Pyra being the one to tease A is something that A was unprepared for. “You do have something to carry this in, right?”
That was something that A, in fact, did not have. A signals this through facepalming, causing Mythra to snicker at A. “No need to look so down, A. It’s-” Mythra looked away for a moment, only to notice the lute was gone when she looked back. “Eh, where did it go?”
A flicked the red core danging from the right ear. “I’m merely storing it in my core. Do recall that we have the same origin, meaning that we share much of the same abilities.” A boasts, before giving Mythra a smirk back. Storing something in a pocket dimension is rather convenient, if A had to admit.
“That’s actually something I’ve been wondering about myself: what is the situation with your Monado?” Pyra asks A before summoning her own sword. “I know you technically aren’t an Aegis like we, or Malos, are due to your circumstances, but now that we all exist in one world I’m not sure if it’s the same or not.”
A was about to respond, but something then nagged in A’s mind. Since the Intersection, A has yet to manifest the Monado, as there was no need. A really did not know what, if anything, changed about the weapon after the twin worlds became one once more. Which only made A want to investigate the situation.
A flicked a wrist, and out of the ether the Monado materialised in A’s hand. In all honesty, A did not know what to expect from any potential changes. The sword itself looked exactly like the form it took in Aionios, created to distance itself from Alpha usurping the design of the Monado I.
What A did not expect was that, now dangling from the hilt, a copy of the Ontos core was now represented on the weapon. “Well, that is new. I wonder why that occurred.” The red crystal shone in the sunlight, the swirling light within made obvious by the backdrop. “I did not foresee this.”
“There’s a lot of things foresight can miss, you can believe me on that one.” Mythra admitted while admiring A’s Monado. “Gotta admit, that’s a nice design for your sword. Much more elegant that the ‘bigger than he is’ weapon Milton has. Still don’t know why his Blade is like Malos’.”
“There are plenty of reasons why he might share such a weapon.” A began to explain after dispersing the Monado. “His role in the world might be great enough that it would be necessary, much like Zanza binding himself to Shulk. Another, more simple option, is that he’s your and Rex’s son and would be a battlefield maniac.”
Mythra feigned shock at A’s accusation, even putting a hand over her heart. “Oh my, A. You are even more of a snarker than I am. By any means, your sword’s pretty neat. Very different from a normal Blade weapon; with how different it is, you could change the meaning of combat single handedly.”
A gave that idea a brief thought of dominating a tournament via everyone misinterpreting A’s abilities and being unable to figure out what A’s power actually is. The idea amused A, and the idea was tempting if A got the chance at encountering a fighting ring. It was not like A had any scruples against using trickery.
The trio were walking out of the shopping district, making their way south towards the Hardhaigh Palace. With Pyra and Mythra’s status as friends to the Special Inquisitor, they were able to pass through any checks that may have stopped them, though the guards did audibly question who their guest was.
Knowing what had happened to Alba Cavanich when it was part of Aionios, being torn apart and rebuilt as Fort O’Virbus, makes A feel wistful for some strange reason. Even though the damage may as well have never happened after the world was reconstructed, it was an important place to A’s…
Family. That was a strange word to the being that now walked amongst humanity. For the first time since the day Klaus activated the Conduit, A could be considered part of a family. A niece in Glimmer, an in-law in Rex, sisters in Pyra and Mythra, and a nephew in Milton. Even Shulk and his compatriots would count.
Did A deserve any of this, a nagging part of A’s brain demands an answer. A may have saved the world from extinction the first time and entropy the second, but whether A had a place was something that A was still working on answering. It was a question A foresees might stick around for some time.
What A could say, though, is that it will not be something that A takes for granted. The years as part of the Trinity processor, the long and apathetic existence of Alvis, unwilling to interfere unless it involved Zanza, the decades as a core, and now the proactive fencer who defied A’s built-in nature.
A was the sum of all of those experiences. That was something A had in common with Pyra and Mythra, A realises. Their lowest moments, even throughout the pain, was part of the journey that led to their current lives. Happiness, friends, family. Klaus’ gift gave them the trigger, but they were the ones to do it.
Pyra put a hand on A’s shoulder, taking A out of the mental distraction. “Hey, A, there’s something I’ve been meaning to say. When you were in Aionios, you and Matthew saved my daughter. From the bottom of my heart, I don’t know if I can thank you enough for that.”
“There is no need for thanks. I did what needed to be done.” A did not believe the praise was necessary, but Pyra did so regardless. “Glimmer was someone who needed help. It was really Rex you should be thanking; it was him who pushed her out of the shell she formed around herself.”
Mythra shrugged before patting A on the back. “Don’t sell yourself short; if it weren’t for you, none of us would be here right now. I, for one, think you deserve to brag a little. You got friends and family to back ya whenever something might happen, so don’t go acting like a loner.”
A felt a bit of a throb somewhere in A’s heart, beating harder than it normally does. As much as A did not want to verbally admit it, it did feel somewhat nice to have Pyra and Mythra give encouragement. Perhaps it was a remnant back when they were all just cores, only having each other.
On that thought, “I admit I forgot to ask about this earlier, but where is Logos? Or as you call him, Malos? I know he was still in his core before the Intersection occurred, but I believed, due to the situation with the Sword of the End, he would be more active now.”
“That’s the strange thing, he’s still fully conscious in there but he refuses to resonate with anyone. Rex tried, but he ended up getting a three-day nosebleed as it turns out trying to be the driver to more than Aegis core at a time is painful.” Mythra’s explanation about the Malos situation only raised more questions to A.
“The rest of our driver friends tried bonding to his core, but he rejected all of them.” Pyra continued, looking in the horizon with a forlorn gaze. “I think it might be because of Alamthus, at least his memory. Malos, in his final moments, seemed at peace at finally being free of his influence.”
“He does not want to be controlled once again.” A guesses at Malos’ reasoning. “If anything, I can understand why he would do so. Does your children know about Malos, about-I guess Malos would be Milton and Glimmer’s uncle? If you're keeping that from them, it might not end well.”
Pyra sighed before she gave her response. “They know about most of the details. It was hard explaining that Milton shared a weapon with him, but he got over it quickly enough. We’ve been honest about ourselves to them their whole lives, so it’s not like it’s anything different than what they’ve been exposed to.”
A figures it would only make sense; their status as children born of the halves of Pneuma would mean they would be nearly as world-changing as their respective mothers. Realising this made A wonder if A should try training them at some point; they might follow different rules as Bladelings, but that should not matter.
Pyra smiles as she puts a hand on A’s shoulder. “Hey, if you’re willing, you can come back with us to our house and finally meet Milton and Glimmer; well, again for her. I bet they’d love having you around. Just a warning, they might try to fight you once you show them your Monado.”
“Maybe not today. I still feel like I’m finding my place in the world.” A feels like A’s crushing Pyra’s and Mythra’s hearts after the talk they all had, but A’s worried about moving too fast. “When I feel ready, I will contact you. You do not have to worry about me vanishing from the world.”
An existence not tied to any master was one A was not used to, but as time went on it sounded more appealing. Even if A feels like a slow approach is needed, just these moments of ‘hanging out’ with A’s siblings was something that A was going to hold onto for a while.
Chapter 3: At The Center
Summary:
A encounters Glimmer for the second time, and Milton for the first.
Chapter Text
Fonsett is a rather quaint place for the Master Driver to live in, A believes. Rex was raised amongst his fellow lost orphans by the late Corrine; continuing her role as the humble parental figure for the village. The large house he grew up in, and now raises his children in, serves as a symbol of hope.
Currently, A is in that house’s downstairs living room, sitting with Rex, Pyra, and Mythra. Another couple of days have passed since meeting Pyra and Mythra, and now the incarnation of Ontos is currently there to meet A’s niblings, Milton and Glimmer. Rex and Pyra made a pot of tea for the occasion.
“Sorry fer the waitin’, kiddos still have classes.” Rex apologises for the delay in A getting to meet the other two children for the first time. A’s brother-in-law - it still feels strange to call him that- held out the pot in A’s direction, the smell of the brew rather strong. “Want’a cup?”
“I am fine, thank you.” A already knows Glimmer from the 10th term incarnation of her that appeared in Aionios, but A never had the chance to encounter Milton during that time. That they were ten year olds with inherited Pneuma power only made A more determined to introduce A’s self to them.
“When I told them about your situation, and that Mio already met ya, they got pretty excited.” Mythra explains the situation, before letting out a small laugh. “I think they’re excited to meet any extended family, given how unique our family is. Just don’t be surprised if any of them bounce off the walls, okay?”
Despite it all, A cannot help but find enjoyment. Being part of an actual family is still a rather alien experience, but Mythra and Pyra welcomed A into this sudden change with open arms. Nurturing A’s humanity was proven to be a worthwhile endeavour, even if there’s still the occasional bickering.
As if they knew they were being talked about, Glimmer and Milton walk through the front door with a shared glare of annoyance. Milton was the first to speak. “Why’re we here back in school while Mio gets’ta be with Mam in Gormott?” He complains, before noticing A. “Who ‘re ya?”
“This is A, A is… well, it’s a bit hard’ta explain, but A’s yer Mom and Mum’s sibling.” It was clear to A Rex is having a hard time describing the situation without letting any information about Aionios out. “A here is from where Shulk is. If yer not believing me, look at the core.”
A’s head turned to show the Aegisborn the red core hanging from A’s left year. Sharing the shape of their own cores, the red gem sparkled from being in proximity with the Pneuma core. The two children are briefly mesmerised by its appearance, before Glimmer snaps herself out.
“How come we’ve never heard of you before? Why have you only shown up now?” Even at this age, it seems Glimmer will always be confrontational. It did make sense, A admits; a new face appearing claiming to be a relative would make anyone suspicious. Glimmer still is giving a A distrustful glare.
Milton, on the other hand, seems much more willing to believe A. “C’mon Glim, yer eyes not workin’? A has an Aegis core like us, that’s gotta mean we’re family!” The blond boy clearly has his father’s trust in others. Being the first time A is seeing Milton in person, it’s off to a good start.
Though A does think some clarification is in order. “I spent the last twenty-three years in a coma, of sorts, based on me returning to my core. It was not until the Intersection that I reawoke. Your father was one of the first I encountered, and now I am here to meet you next.”
“A was the one to help me find yer sis after she vanished that night.” Rex may be simplifying the details, but he is attempting to be as honest as he can with his children. “A’s been spending the last few weeks getting re-adaptin’ t’ life, and A now feels ready to meet y’all.”
The two children looked at A for a moment before turning to each other in silence. Whatever they are silently discussing is unheard to the adults in the room, but they turn back to them soon enough that A hopes they’re willing to accept. Glimmer is still giving A looks, but not as aggressively.
“We’re willing to give A a chance, but you need to prove that you’re being honest.” Glimmer lays out the terms, and A finds them both quite reasonable and easy to achieve. “We’re gonna go to the training ground outside, and you’ll show us everything. If you’re as you say, we’ll know.”
“If that is what it takes, I shall accept your offer.” A knows it would not take long to prove A’s truthfulness, and they are children: this could be both some training and mild entertainment for all of them. There is one thing, though, that puzzles A. A leans towards the three adults. “Training ground?”
“They mean the garden behind the house.” Pyra translates the terminology Glimmer used. “Since we’ve been teaching them how to use their abilities back there, the kids got in the habit of referring to it as their training ground after spending some time in the castle in Gormott. Hope that doesn’t bother you.”
A gives a smirk towards the fiery sister before standing up. “It is of no matter, it will only give them more motivation to see what their abilities are, and how well you have nurtured them. You have done a job unbeknownst to us Trinity Processors up until now: parenthood, and so far I think you did fine.”
Dealing with a niece and a nephew, that A would even have blood relatives, is something the incarnation of Ontos never expected to occur in the thousands of years existing. That Pyra and Mythra were able to build this life after their terrible start impresses A. Getting to know them only increases that.
The Monado Fencer goes outside and finds the two children waiting for A, weapons already summoned and in an attack stance towards the older person. A finds some amusement at their enthusiasm, even if A thinks it’s somewhat overdone. A does not plan on fighting them yet, but they seem adamant on it.
A glance at their weapons made A curious: Glimmer’s weapon is still the Wildfire Kithara; as expected, the Flame Clock on it is replaced by Glimmer’s Aegis core. Seeing Milton’s Monado for the first time, on the other hand, makes A worry a small amount. A only hopes it has nowhere the same power as A’s.
“I hope you did not plan on ambushing me. Believe me when I say this, it would not end well for either of you.” A sternly warns with arms crossed. “If you refuse to believe me, all I need to tell you is that future sight will make any attack on me fail.”
A emphasises the point by manifesting the Monado into A’s grasp. The sleek red sword made the two Aegisborns’ eyes widen in both surprise and awe, immediately confirming A’s word as the truth. A small smirk appears on the corner of A’s mouth, a small bit of amusement at their reaction.
Milton’s gold eyes seemed to glow, though given his powers that might be literal. “Woah, yer a Monado user too? I knew we’re connected.” Milton gives a look towards Glimmer. “Willing to admit yer wrong, Glim?” The child of Mythra seems to be taking satisfaction in being right. Too much, if A’s to say anything.
“Fine, you were right. Are you happy now?” Glimmer is certainly not enjoying her previous denial, but A does somewhat understand. Without the memories of Aionios, A is still considered a stranger rather than a comrade in arms that acted as a fellow lute player. It still hurts somewhat seeing Glimmer like this, though.
A crouches down in front of Glimmer, putting a hand on her shoulder. “Do not fret. If I were in your situation, I would doubt what I’m saying as well. Let this be a lesson to trust your instincts, but not let them cloud what your eyes see. Is that alright with you?“
Glimmer’s rose gold eyes look into A’s blue, before the daughter of Pyra gives a shrug. “Sure, I guess. I still want you to prove yourself.” Glimmer gets back into her combat stance. “We’re the children of the Master Driver, so you best give it your all against us. Don’t you dare hold back.”
Wisps of fire emanate from Glimmer’s Kithara, followed by the glowing pulse of Milton’s sword. From their stances alone, it is clear just how much Rex’s own fighting style has an effect on them. Despite all this, even with A following Glimmer’s demand, they were still ten. A is going to trounce them easily.
Milton was the first to attempt a strike, attempting his own version of his father’s Double-Spinning Edge as he ran towards A. A already knew how to counter Rex, and with this attacker being half of his height it was easy for A to simply side-step out of the way as Milton loses his balance.
Thrown fireballs are the next thing A needs to dodge, something simple for the Seer. A side steps closer to Glimmer before taking a page out of Matthew's book and grabs the Kithara before pulling it out of Glimmer’s grip. The Kithara disappears into the ether as Glimmer looks at A in shock.
“Let this be a lesson. When your opponent has the size advantage, do not underestimate their capabilities. Additionally, work on your stances. Neither of you had your balance centered.” A hopes the lesson will go through to them, as they might need it most out of everyone in this new world.
The two of them appear impressed at what A was able to do near-instantly. From how it looks, they might even be wishing on how to do A’s moves themselves. Whether that happens, A does not know, but at least they appear to be taking A’s takedown of them fairly well.
“You’re an amazing fighter, who taught you?” Glimmer asks with enthusiasm, wanting to know just how to fight like A. “Dad taught us most of what we know, but Uncle Zeke and Aunt Mòrag helped out for some of the weirder stuff. I know I don’t have a sword, but we might be able-”
“That would be a hard question to answer in full, little Glimmer.” Even A has difficulty trying to articulate where A’s fighting capabilities came from, so A sees no point in attempting to. “You two have been taught well. There is much for you to still learn, but you are on your way there.”
Milton, after brushing the dirt off of himself thanks to his tumble. “Yer sword’s kinda like mine, is that ‘cause we’re family? Mom’s the only other person I know who has foresight, and…” The blond boy stops himself from talking to catch his breath, still wound up from the attempt at combat.
A can not help but find the situation somewhat humorous. Dealing with the niece and nephew is surprisingly enjoyable, even with their sudden desire to face A in combat. If this is how one normally deals with extended family, I assume the bonds must be strong to deal with this often.
“This is not going to be the only lesson you get from me.” An attempt at both warning and encouragement. “Your potential is great, but it will only be reached through nurturement. You might be strong, but it is unfocused. Brute force will only get you so far before you fall under pressure.”
Milton gets a smirk on his face now. “We can beat any challenge you throw at us. We’re th’ children of the Aegis and the Master Driver. That pretty much means we’re unstoppable.” The boy didn’t seem to notice his blond hair, spikey much like his father’s, was speckled with dirt.
A finds Milton’s determination somewhat charming, in a ‘children are sacred’ way. The solitary existence the incarnations of Ontos led was something that A thought was necessary, but from assisting Shulk in defeating Zanza, taking back control of Origin, and being around people who call A family proves that was the wrong choice.
“If you really want to learn from me, you are going to have to correct your stance.” A goes back into instructor mode, going up to Milton and repositioning his stance. “Not having the right form could potentially harm you when you go for the attack. I know you’re copying your father’s style, but-”
Milton gets tense as A criticizes Rex’s combat style. “If Dad can do it, it should work fer me.” The green of Milton’s core crystal glowed brighter with his tension. It seems Milton is defensive when it comes to criticisms of Rex, even if well-intentioned. His gold eyes dull with his annoyance.
A releases him, his point having gotten across. “Well, I believe we all have gotten our points across. We should head back inside so we do not make your parents worry. I do not plan on leaving yet, so if either of you are in need of me you can simply ask.”
The three of them go back into the house, Rex being the first of the trio to be encountered first. “So, did the kiddos give ya a rough time? They did seem eager to test yer metal. Hope there wasn’t any problems.” Rex places his hands on the kids’ heads and ruffles their hair.
“They decided they needed to try to defeat me, but we got that sorted out before long.” A smirks as A watches the children react to their hair getting messed with. “Your children are menaces. Having to deal with them here was tiring, how do you deal with them in the long term?”
Rex laughs at A’s question, enjoying the role of in-law perhaps too much. “That’s just somethin’ you gotta figure out when yer a parent. If that’s somethin’ you’ve considered, that is. You learn as you go along and each person is different with how to pass on to the next generation.”
A briefly thinks for a moment on Rex’s words. “I will admit I have not. Never had an opportunity to dwell on that matter over the years. After having to wrangle fate in such a way to get the desired outcome, I guess I can figure out how to do it optimally.”
Rex laughs even harder this time, nearly doubling over, wiping a tear from his eye once he stops. “Yeah, ‘optimal parenting’ isn’t a thing. It’s very chaotic, and even someone like you’d have a hard time figuring out all of the tricks. I can give some tips though, should the need arise.”
Before A could continue the current chat with Rex, A feels a tug on the cape of A’s outfit. Turning to look at what’s causing it, Glimmer sheepishly withdraws her hand from the cape. “Can we talk for a bit? I know we got off on the wrong foot and I was-”
“I can spare a few moments.” A walks with Glimmer towards another part of the common room, before the two of them sat across from one another. A wonders if sparks of Aionios memory are influencing Glimmer’s actions right now much like Mio, but Glimmer hasn’t shown any signs of that yet.
Glimmer crosses her arms over herself as she starts talking. “My mum talked to me about how I was treating you. Told me that wasn’t nice, and that I should apologize. Well, here it is, I guess.” Glimmer’s eyes were diverted from A’s, making A believe this attempt is dishonest in the intentions.
“Glimmer, I’ve dealt with you before-” A’s eyes widen as A realises the verbal slip, a first for the personification of Logic. “Dealt with people like you before. You are afraid of opening up to others in case you lose it all. I can promise right now there is no reason to worry.”
The fire Bladeling looks up at A, her face shifting through emotions. “That’s easy for you to say. Apparently you’re super old.” A wonders who phrased it to Glimmer like that- Mythra, perhaps. “How much have you lost? It kinda sounds like you’re in the same place talking about that.”
“Over the years I watched many people come and go. Then I do the same, missing over twenty years of people who could be called my friends.” A tries to think of a way to describe the situation without going into specifics. “Recently, I’ve been subject to the first people to treat me like any other person.”
The first meeting with Matthew is a memory A hopes to never forget. Although sometimes clueless, it was his interactions that made A’s mission against Alpha more bearable once it was time to leave. Leaving him hurt, but A knows he will be reborn one day, even if different thanks to a better existence.
“What I am saying is that I never had the opportunity to be part of a larger family until I met your father and he gave me the ways of meeting you and your siblings.” As A speaks, the memory of A encountering the group in Aionios runs through A’s mind.
A looked at Glimmer again, now with a clear smile on A’s face. The redhead valleyed through a mix of emotions before deciding to speak again. “How do your powers work, anyway? I’ve got power over fire since Mum’s a Fire Blade, but you don’t seem to have an element for your Monado.”
“I did not form with the Architect’s plans for Alrest in mind, so I do not fit under that paradigm. It would be best described as though I would not have an element at all.” The ether in Leftheria even feels different from the one in Colony 9, charged with the elements.
Milton walks up with curiosity written on his face. “What’re talkin’ about? Sounds like it was some element talk or whatever.” It seems Milton was listening in on them as they talked. The blond boy took his own seat and faced the two. “How come yer Blade is a Monado too?”
“It is a part of every core of the Trinity Processor.” The look Milton gives A makes it clear Milton does not know what A is talking about. “Let me rephrase this: it’s something about our family. We all have great power, power that allows us to alter the very laws of physics to our whim.”
Milton briefly looks down at his own core crystal before looking back up at A. “I know th’ thing about Pneuma, Malos being Amalthus’ champion and how mine looks a lot like his, and yer being some ancient being that rewrote reality thanks to some acquaintance of Dad, but do I have one then?”
A’s face stiffened as A attempts to process how to tell Milton. When A learned about his possession of a Monado during the campaign against Alpha, the surprise A felt came mired with worry. The Monado played an important role in every major event since the activation of the conduit, so what could this mean?
“It may well mean you could find yourself at the center of something that could fundamentally change the world. The power of the cores of the Trinity Processor is a great one, one that those who desire control over the world may seek.” The Monado Fencer crossed arms, hoping the point got across.
Milton merely stares at the floor for a while. What is going on in the blond’s head, A has no idea, and trying to use any abilities to figure out is out of the question. Rather, it would be when Milton speaks up again that A will base what to say next on.
When the son of Rex looked back at A, the look on his face was one of excitement rather than the expected fright. “If it means keepin’ m’ family safe, I’d do whatever it takes. That’s what Dad taught me, what Mum, Mam, and Mom taught me. I’ll help anyone who needs me.“
“Hmm, good answer.” A responds before the urge of messing with his hair overtakes A, once again messing up his spikes. “Just know that this path can and will hurt you. Whether it be physical, mental, or emotional. That was a lesson your father learned on his quest for the World Tree.”
Mythra walks up to the group and crosses her arms in A’s direction. “I’m not sure any of them are ready for that kind of talk yet. They’re still a bunch of kids. Right now the world’s doing alright, not sure why you’re so worried. Unless this is a future vision thing...”
Being able to see the future is at times a blessing, and at others a curse. Having it is part of the reason Ontos was always aloof around others, and it was only by restrictions to it could A be more human. Despite this, this is not a matter of foresight.
“Ever since the Intersection, the world holds its breath as the two halves are interacting with each other for the first time.” Although the past few weeks have seen what small interactions there are relatively peaceful, A still worries about something going wrong. “We all know how irrational people are when something like this occurs.”
“If there’s one thing I’ve gotten from Rex since I’ve met him, it’s his optimism.” Mythra eyes Milton and Glimmer before going up to them. “This is something I need some privacy for. Do you guys mind heading upstairs for a while? I think your sister would appreciate her stuff being cleaned up when she comes back.”
The kids seem to see right through the excuse, part of being the children of the Aegis, but they decide not to press the issue. Grabbing their stuff, the redhead and the blond made their way up the stairs towards their bedrooms. Mythra wipes her brow of the nervous sweat, one worry down.
Mythra gives a light smack to A’s arm. “You worry far too much for any one person to handle. I’m not sure if you remember, but we have friends in high places, on all sides. Shouldn’t be too much of a worry to get them united… Is this the part where you add more issues?”
“Unfortunately, you are correct. I’m sure you understand that people like the Anti-Blade Caesars would like to get their hands on something like Machina ether-nullification tech.” A hopes for the best, but people are as they are. “Or maybe if some criminals in Colony 9 got their hands on some core crystals? That would be problematic.”
“Yeah yeah yeah, I get your point.” Mythra puts her hands on her temples. “After everything we’ve been through, it would be nice to get some time that isn’t worrying about some threat. Having our kids not face any of the struggles we had. But there is no such thing as permanent peace, though.”
“Believe me, I do not like this either.” After getting to be part of a true family, A doesn’t want to let it slip away. “It’s something that must be fought for regardless. Fight to keep the peace you deserve in place. And restore it should that fail-”
A is stopped from talking further by Pyra, Rex and the children standing in front of them. Pyra is the first of the four to speak. “I was wondering why you sent the kids upstairs. If this is something that important you needed the kids, I would’ve appreciated being part of this.”
Mythra puts her hands up in surrender. “Don’t blame A, I’m the one who sent them away. We had a chat about some of the stuff this strange world might need from us in the future. It was something Glimmer and Milton weren’t needed for. Sorry for not roping you two in first.”
“Eh, it’s fine. Yer not harmin’ anyone.” Rex grins before putting his hand against his chin. “It’s a talk that probably needed t’ happen anyway. Y’all should probably talk to Shulk and them sometime about that stuff. Keep ‘em in the loop.” Rex’s concern for the Bionites sees A somewhat comforted.
The grin on his face does not bring any comfort. “Besides, I’ve been achin’ all this time for A t’ see the Master Driver in full force, backed by the power of the Aegis since we didn’t get a chance before. Maybe get Shulk to come by and have us finally prove who’s strongest?”
While A refuses to touch that question with a ten ped pole, it’s good to hear Rex’s belief in unity persist. Maybe it’s starting to spread to A…
