Work Text:

“Jounouchi!” Yuugi cried as his friend slumped over.

The other occupants of the room merely laughed as he ran to check on his unconscious friend.

“You hurt him,” Yuugi said, trembling a little. His tormentors only thought it to be from fear. “Why?”

“Hey, he accepted the dare. He knew what he was getting into.”

Of course, their prey always took the dare. With the cameras running, it was a choice between that, and being pressed into answering a leading question where every answer was humiliating in some way or another.

Win, win for the organizers of this little game. The ringleader leaned forward, leering at his next prey. Easy prey, he thought.

“Come on, Mutou, it’s your turn. Which’ll it be?” he said.

And then he would swear that the air almost stilled for just the briefest of moments, before coming alive again, just now a touch wrong. But he shook off the shiver running down his spine, until Yuugi spoke again.

“No,” he said. And the chill returned in an instant. “Those weren’t the rules of this game, were they?”

“What?” someone said, with a slight stumble. The ringleader felt a little relief that he wasn’t the only one unnerved by this. Yuugi was too calm, too confident. As though he’d been the one to lead them into a trap, and not the other way around.

“The rules were that whoever completes the challenge gets to issue the next one,” Yuugi said. “Since Jounouchi is unconscious, as his teammate, I’ll take up that role in his stead.”

It had to be a bluff. The guy was playing mind games to save his own skin.

“Who said anything about teams?”

“Don’t play dumb. It’s your turn to choose.” Yuugi advanced towards them with a terrifying smile. “Truth…?

“…Or dare?”
