Shy, can I see your face

Work Text:

The sun was just beginning to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink as Sonic and Shadow sat on a hillside overlooking the sunset. The warmth of the day lingered around them, and the soft breeze carried the faint sound of nature closing its day.

“Isn’t it beautiful?” Sonic exclaimed, leaning back on his hands and gazing at the horizon. There was an undeniable joy in his voice, something that came from the heart.

Shadow, seated next to him, glanced over. He couldn’t help but smile slightly at Sonic’s enthusiasm. “It is,” he replied, his voice as stoic as ever, but there was a hint of warmth in his tone.

Sonic turned to look at Shadow, feeling a flutter in his chest. His heart raced a bit, and he brushed a hand through his quills nervously. “Hey, um… there’s something I’ve been thinking about.”

Shadow turned his full attention to Sonic, his crimson eyes searching for any hint of hesitation in Sonic’s demeanor. “What is it?”

The sunlight caught Sonic’s face, highlighting the way his cheeks flushed slightly. “I—uh, I know this might be a little weird, but…” He paused, biting his lip as he gathered the courage to say what was on his mind. “I really like you, Shadow. Like, really like you.”

Shadow’s heart raced, and he held Sonic’s gaze, his mind working to absorb what he just heard. “You do?”

“Y-Yeah,” Sonic stammered, his shyness making him fidget. “And um, I was thinking… maybe we could, you know, try kissing? Just once? To see how it feels?”

Silence settled between them as the request hung in the air. Sonic’s expression was a mixture of hope and anxiety, and Shadow couldn’t help but think how adorably flustered Sonic looked right now.

“Are you sure?” Shadow asked, his voice softer now, almost teasing. “I wouldn’t want to make you uncomfortable.”

“It’s just… you make me feel safe, you know?” Sonic admitted, his green eyes bright with sincerity. “And I really want to do this with you.”

For a moment, Shadow felt a warmth spread through him. The idea of kissing Sonic—a boy he admired and cared for deeply—was exhilarating. He shifted a little closer, nodding. “Alright. Just… don’t laugh if I mess it up.”

Sonic chuckled softly, the tension easing up. “I promise I won’t laugh.” He took a deep breath, steeling himself.

Gingerly, Shadow leaned in, his heart racing, and Sonic mirrored his movement, closing the gap between them. The moment felt surreal, filled with anticipation. Their lips met gently, a soft brushing of warmth that sent sparks throughout both their bodies.

Sonic’s eyes widened in surprise, and then he relaxed into the kiss, feeling the sweetness of it wash over him. It was everything he’d dreamed of and more. Shadow, too, surprised himself with how natural it felt to kiss Sonic, to share this moment of vulnerability with someone he cared for.

As they pulled back, Sonic’s face was a bright shade of red, his expression a mix of delight and disbelief. “Wow,” he breathed, feeling a grin spread across his face. “That was… amazing.”

Shadow smirked, unable to hide his own slight blush. “Not bad for a first try, huh? You weren’t too bad yourself.”

Sonic laughed, his heart filled with joy. “We should definitely do this again—maybe with less pressure next time?”

“Deal,” Shadow said, a rare smile gracing his features.

As the sun dipped further below the horizon, Sonic leaned against Shadow, feeling lighter than air. He realized that this was just the beginning of a beautiful new chapter in their relationship—one filled with blossoming affection, laughter, and the thrill of perhaps many more first kisses to come.
