Work Text:

Mike’s head felt weird. Like, really weird. Fuzzy and floaty, like he’d had one too many beers and— except his mouth was dry, and the room was way too bright. He blinked slowly, his gaze adjusting to the hospital room around him. There was a steady beeping sound somewhere near his head, and the smell of antiseptic was strong enough to make him wrinkle his nose.

But none of that mattered because wow, there was a ridiculously handsome man sitting next to his bed. Dark hair, warm brown eyes, and a suit that probably cost more than Mike’s rent. The guy was leaning back in the chair, tie loosened, the top button of his shirt was undone like he’d had a really rough day. But he still looked hot and Mike couldn’t stop staring.

“Mike,” the guy said, voice smooth like honey. “How are you feeling?”

Mike blinked at him. “Who are you?” He said, his voice scratchy.

The guy’s face tensed for half a second, his mouth opened slightly, then shut, and then he smiled—but it was soft, almost careful. “Seriously?”

Mike tilted his head. “Yeah. Sorry, you look really familiar.” He couldn’t remember the man but he somehow had a feeling, this person was someone really important to him. “Are you… my boyfriend?”

Harvey’s mouth curled into a slow smile. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Yeah.”

Mike’s eyes widened. “Seriously?”

“Mm-hmm.” Harvey’s expression was perfectly composed, like this was the most natural thing in the world. “You don’t remember?”

Mike’s mouth fell open. “We’re dating?

“For about six months now,” Harvey said smoothly, barely suppressing a grin.

Mike stared at him. “No way.”

“Way.” Harvey nodded solemnly. “You were pretty persistent. Hard to resist, honestly.”

Mike’s cheeks turned pink. “Wow. I mean… I get it. You’re gorgeous.”

“Right back at you.”

Mike grinned, feeling giddy. He tugged weakly at Harvey’s tie, his fingers brushing over the silk. “Did I… say ‘I love you’ yet?”

“Couple of times.” Harvey’s eyes gleamed. “You were very dramatic about it.”

Mike let out a breathless laugh. “Yeah, that sounds like me.”

Harvey’s lips twitched. “And you insisted we have a joint Spotify playlist. It’s terrible.”

Mike gasped. “What’s on it?”

“A lot of Taylor Swift, Coldplay.”

Mike’s eyes narrowed. “And you’re still dating me?”

Harvey leaned in a little. “Like I said, hard to resist.”

Mike’s heart fluttered. His gaze drifted over Harvey’s face — the sharp jawline, the way his eyes crinkled just slightly at the edges when he smiled. “Okay, so… if you’re my boyfriend…”

“Yeah?”

Mike’s hand slid up Harvey’s tie, his fingers brushing over the knot. “Can I kiss you?”

Harvey’s smile widened. “Doctor said no strenuous activity for twenty-four hours.”

Mike’s face fell. “That’s tragic.”

“You’ll survive.”

Mike sighed dramatically, his hand still curled around Harvey’s tie. “I can’t believe I don’t remember any of this. I must’ve been really convincing if I got you to date me.”

“Oh, you were.” Harvey’s eyes sparkled. “Your begging was very persuasive.”

Mike’s cheeks flamed. “Did I really beg?”

“You don’t remember, so I guess you’ll just have to take my word for it.”

Mike groaned, covering his face with his free hand. “God, I’m so embarrassing.”

Harvey’s hand came up, brushing over Mike’s wrist and gently tugging his hand away from his face. “Relax. It worked, didn’t it?”

Mike peeked at him through his fingers. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.” Harvey squeezed his hand. “So you must’ve done something right.”

“Does Gammy know about us?” Mike looked at him cautiously.

“Of course, I am her favourite.” He smirked.

“Of course you are. I mean just look at you. You look like a million bucks.” Mike sighed, feeling bad about himself.

“You deserve the best. And she’s proud of you, you know.”

“Yeah?” Mike’s heart fluttered again. His eyelids were starting to feel heavy, but he didn’t want to stop looking at Harvey.

"You should rest for sometime."

“Will you stay?”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

Mike smiled sleepily. “Best boyfriend ever.”

Harvey’s thumb brushed over Mike’s knuckles. “That’s me.”

Mike’s eyes drifted shut as he let himself sink into sleep.

“You’re still here.” Mike woke up barely after ten minutes, looking at him in disbelief.

“Well, I am the best boyfriend, aren’t I?”

Mike’s grinned dopily. "How exactly did I manage to land you?"

Harvey’s mouth twitched. "You still don’t remember?"

Mike shook his head. "Nope. How’d we meet? I need to know how I scored a ten on ten."

Harvey sighed dramatically. "Fine... You were working at a bookstore—"

Mike’s brow furrowed. "I was?"

"Yeah. Little place, tucked away in the buzzed market. And one day, I walked in looking for books."

Mike’s eyes were huge now. "What book?"

Harvey’s lips twitched. "Nothing particular, just browsing. You said I’d be wasting my money, that book isn’t good. And rambled about how another book which is better if I want to know about Turkey, this author has actually been there and there’s an funny instance about kebab, there are many such instances and you were going on and on about it..."

Mike laughed. "That sounds familiar."

"I know." Harvey’s eyes gleamed. "Some customer asked for my autograph, but you had no idea who I was. Then I left — and you thought you’d never see me again. But you collided with me outside, on the same day, dropped juice all over me."

“Oh my god, really? No wonder I had to beg you to go out with me.” Mike’s face was starting to ache from smiling. "And you said yes?"

Harvey shrugged. "How could say no to this face.” He booped Mike’s nose.

Mike sighed happily. "That’s… really cute." His smile turned shy and he looked away.

There was a movie playing on low volume in the hospital room. Mike’s mouth parted slightly in realisation. “Did I… happen to live in Notting Hill?”

Harvey nodded, his face mischievous.

“Did I also tell you I was ‘just a boy, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love me’?”

Harvey’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “Now that you mention it…”

Mike’s jaw dropped. “Oh my God.” He sat up, ignoring the way his head spun. “You’re literally describing Notting Hill!” He pointed at the TV.

Harvey chuckled, crossing his arms. “You sure?”

“Yes!” Mike’s eyes were huge. “I mean — that’s literally the plot of Notting Hill.” He groaned and flopped back against the pillow. “I can’t believe I fell for that.”

Harvey’s smile turned downright wicked. “So you remember the rom-com from the 90s but you don’t remember your boss?”

“Wait, you’re my boss?!” Mike’s face heated up. “I knew you were way out of my league.”

“In your defense,” Harvey said, leaning closer, “you’ve been drugged.”

Mike rubbed his face, cheeks burning. “Why would you do that to me?”

“Because it’s fun.” Harvey’s voice was light, teasing. “And you should’ve seen your face.”

Mike peeked at him through his fingers. “You’re the worst.”

“Am I?” Harvey’s hand found Mike’s, his thumb brushing over his knuckles.

Mike sighed, his indignation already fading under the warmth of Harvey’s touch. “Okay… maybe you’re not the worst.”

“Good to know.” Harvey’s hand stayed where it was, his thumb tracing slow, lazy circles over Mike’s skin.

Mike’s eyelids were starting to droop again. He yawned. “If you were my actual boyfriend, you’d owe me an apology.”

Harvey smiled. “If I were your actual boyfriend, I’d take you out for dinner to make it up to you.”

Mike’s lips curled sleepily. “Fancy dinner?”

“Of course.”

Mike breathed, dragging his eyes over Harvey’s face. “So... I work for you?”

Harvey nodded.

“That’s unfair. I mean, how’s anyone supposed to concentrate with you walking around looking like that?”

Harvey’s smile grew. “Trust me, you manage.”

Mike giggled. Giggled. He reached out, fumbling until his hand landed on Harvey’s tie, again. He tugged it weakly. “Did I ever tell you you’ve got really pretty eyes?”

“Not in so many words.”

“Well, you do,” Mike whispered, blinking lazily. “And your mouth? Criminal. Totally illegal. I should sue you.”

Harvey’s mouth twitched. “I’d love to see you try.”

“I probably wouldn’t win. I’d get distracted.” Mike let out a content sigh, his fingers curling loosely around Harvey’s tie. “You know, if you were my boyfriend, I’d let you kiss me.”

Harvey’s hand brushed over Mike’s knuckles where they rested on his tie. “Oh yeah?”

“Mmhmm.” Mike’s eyelids drooped. “Wouldn’t even complain.”

“You’d let me kiss you?” Harvey’s voice was low now, a little teasing.

Mike smiled sleepily. “Yeah. But you’d have to take me out on a date first. I’m not easy.”

Harvey chuckled, his thumb brushing over Mike’s hand. “Good to know.”

Mike’s eyes fluttered closed. His grip on Harvey’s tie loosened, and Harvey gently pulled it free, setting Mike’s hand down on the bed.

“I like you,” Mike murmured. “You’re really nice. And hot.”

“Yeah, you mentioned that,” Harvey said, his voice fond.

"If you’re my boss, does that mean I can’t kiss you?" Just when he thought Mike was about to sleep he opened his eyes.

"That would probably be frowned upon," Harvey said, but he was still smiling.

"Hmm." Mike pouted. "I think that’s unfair. Especially since you have such a nice mouth."

Harvey’s eyes softened. "Yeah?"

Mike nodded sagely. "Mmhmm. And your eyes? So pretty. Like, criminally pretty. You should be arrested."

Harvey laughed. "I’ll keep that in mind."

Mike took Harvey’s hand in his. "Hey. Do you want to be my boyfriend?"

Harvey’s gaze softened even more. His other hand came up to cover Mike’s. "You might want to sleep on that."

Mike’s eyes were starting to close again. "M’okay with that," he murmured. "As long as you stay here."

"I’m not going anywhere." Harvey’s thumb brushed over Mike’s knuckles.

Mike smiled, sleep tugging at him. "Harvey?"

"Yeah?"

"You’re really handsome," Mike mumbled. "And I think I love you."

Harvey’s breath hitched. "We’ll talk about that when you’re not high."

Mike’s fingers curled sleepily around Harvey’s. "Mmkay. But just so you know… it’s true."

Harvey smiled. "I know."
