"Y'know," Johnny sighed as he laid on the roof, looking at Mavis, "I'm glad I get to spend the rest of my life with you." Mavis gulped. Yes, he would get to spend the rest of his life with her, but she wouldn't. She'd eventually become a widow, the thought of which she dreaded immensely. She cursed her own immortality. Johnny noticed her worried expression and was quick to react. "What's wrong, honey?" Mavis looked away, not wanting to cry in front of him. "It's- It's nothing," she sniffled. He immediately climbed around her to look her in the eyes. "I think we both know that's not true. Please, what's wrong?" She couldn't bear to look at him and kept her head down. "It's- You're a mortal. You'll die eventually and I'll be all on my own. I don't want to live without you." She began to sob and Johnny was quick to wrap his arms around her. "I know, I know. But it's going to be okay. I still have a long ways to go before I die- or so I hope. But either way, I'll still be here even if it isn't forever." This did nothing to comfort Mavis, who began crying even more. Johnny sighed, "I wish there was a way to make me immortal so that you and I could be together forever."
A lightbulb went off in Mavis' head. She suddenly perked up. "That's it!" Johnny was confused. "What's it?" She looked at him with a smile. "There's one way to make a human immortal," suddenly her smile dropped, "But it might not be that pleasant for you." Johnny didn't really care. He'd been through hell and back with all his adventures, what's one more small unpleasant experience? "I'll do anything," he said confidently as he held her hands and looked into her eyes. "Well," Mavis sighed, "I could try turning you into a vampire. My dad taught me how. You won't be able to turn human again after, but you'll be immortal like me. But that means you'll likely see your family and friends die." He thought for a moment. This was a big decision to make. Did he really want to do this? The answer was obvious to him. "Well I'd probably end up seeing my family die eventually, human or not. Plus, my only friends are everyone at the hotel really, and you're all immortal so I don't think I'll be missing much." Mavis and Johnny both smiled at each other. "Well I can do my best. I will have to bite you though." Johnny accepted it as he bent his head to expose his neck. Mavis mentally prepared herself as she bit down on her husband's neck. He screamed pretty loud, but tried to cover his mouth to muffle it. Once Mavis was done she quickly pulled her teeth out and tried rubbing on the area she bit.
"You probably won't feel anything aside from the bite but once my venom reaches your brain you're going to start changing." Johnny had to admit, becoming a vampire seemed pretty exciting. Not to mention he'd be able to spend the rest of eternity with Mavis. However, he did have some concerns. "How are we going to explain this to your dad," he asked. Mavis laughed, "We'll figure it out." She leaned on Johnny, who wrapped his arm around her. The two felt a sense of peace knowing that they could both truly be together forever now. It'd probably take Johnny some getting used to, but he could survive the vampire life. They both sat together staring out at the view from beyond the hotel.
