Work Text:
Sung Jinwoo walked into his room, trying to shake the memory of Wei Wuxian out of his mind, the lithe build reappearing behind his eyes everytime he blinked and leaving him cursing internally.
Was he gay? He’d liked only one other person as it was, but now… well now there was much more to think about. Shaking his head, he slipped into his room and dug into his dresser, looking for some clothing to lend the other man.
He found a pair of joggers that would hopefully fit him and a red t-shirt, one of the only colored shirts he even really owned. Not entirely sure if he should grab briefs, the internal struggle was real but he finally snatched a pair up - attempting to ignore the fact that the other would be wearing something so intimate of his.
Running his fingers through his hair, messing it up. He could hear the shower going but he avoided the next thought shooting through his mind like the plague.
Slipping out of his room, he knocked once on the bathroom door, ignoring the look his sister shot him from the end of the hallway after she’d been in and out of her room to change into her school uniform.
“Yeah?” Wei Wuxian asked, curious and a little concerned; probably because he wasn’t sure if it was him or Jinah.
“I’ve got clothes for you, Wuxian.” He replied, voice steady; no hint of his earlier attraction in his voice.
“Ah! Thank you… uh Jinwoo?” He asked, sounding slightly hesitant as he turned off the water.
“Hm?” Sung Jinwoo replied, his heart racing slightly though he shoved that thought in the very back of his mind.
An awkward laugh was heard through the door, before it was pulled open slightly, face peeking up at Jinwoo and causing him to suck in a quiet breath.
“I know long hair isn’t really the style at this time… I assume, but… I can’t really dry it like I used to so…” He trails off, his once silver eyes going a little stormy in sadness.
“We have a hair dryer, I’ll help.” Sung Jinwoo blurts, blush creeping up his neck.
Tilting his head, Wei Wuxian glances up at him curiously. “A hair dryer?” He opens the door wider, revealing his bare chest, towel wrapped low around his hips and hair slicked back and trailing down his back in damp rivulets.
Sung Jinwoo’s eyes trail down the pale skin for a moment, taking in the old scars and the deep one just below his navel before he tears his gaze away, clearing his throat.
“I’ll show you.” His voice is a little rough, but Wei Wuxian’s cheeks are flushed similarly. Moving out of the way, Sung Jinwoo steps into the bathroom, the door closing behind him as he goes to grab the hair dryer.
He’d handed the clothes over to Wei Wuxian and he turned in time to see the other with the briefs hanging slightly off his hips, the main reason they’re staying up is because of the plush bottom he’s got. Raising his free hand to his face, he covers his eyes with a loud internal groan; he’s so fucked.
Dropping his hand from his face, he motions vaguely to the step stool in the bathroom, Wei Wuxian has pulled the jogger’s on and they’re a little long on him, but not too bad. He wrapped the towel around his shoulders, not wanting to get the shirt wet till his hair was dried, but he moved to sit down.
He turns it on, startling the other and wincing in quiet apology. “Sorry, I should've said it would be loud.”
“It’s alright.” Wei Wuxian laughs a little, watching curiously as the other starts drying his hair. His eyes are wide as he watches it happen, intrigued by the handheld device.
“For something so small, it sure has a lot of power, huh?” He asks, lips twitching in amusement as his hair tickles him slightly. Sung Jinwoo huffs a laugh but nods in agreement.
“That’s about on par for everything in this age, you’ll see a lot more when we go out. Ah… we need to get you some documentation… and probably a hunter’s license.” He mentions, trying to figure out what they’ll need to do while they’re out.
“Hunter’s license?” Wei Wuxian asks, tilting his head back to meet Sung Jinwoo’s eyes. They both freeze for a moment, caught in each other’s gazes before they glance away, heat crawling up their skin.
This connection between them was so different from anything either of them had known before but they weren’t exactly opposed to it either, though it was much too early to think about anything like that when they’d just met last night.
“I’m a Hunter, we go after creatures that are in gates - or break out of gates; though that hasn’t happened in years.” He replies, fingers tangling in the other’s hair near the top as he got higher up the long strands.
A shiver slid down Wei Wuxian’s spine at the casual touch, and left Sung Jinwoo’s eyes locking onto him before clearing his throat.
“It’s really only so you can stay with me and no one can question why a civilian is there, unless of course you want to help. But that’s up to you.” He finished, long fingers massaging over the other’s scalp and getting a soft moan in response, causing him to freeze.
Wei Wuxian lifted his hands to his face in embarrassment, curling forward a little. He was still shaken from finding out he had been shoved through time, and now he didn’t even know how to act, this was so awkward.
“Sorry.” He breathed out, head ducked forward shyly. He was usually so confident and bright, but he felt listless and unmoored here, unsure of himself.
“It’s… alright.” Sung Jinwoo responded just as quietly, turning slightly to lean over the other’s shoulder to get a look at his face. Wei Wuxian blushed but glanced at him out of the corner of his eyes.
“What?” He asked, a slight pout evident on his face, causing the other’s smile to twitch into place.
“Just glad I’m not the only one affected.” Sung Jinwoo retorts, watching in fascination as Wei Wuxian’s cheeks flushed brighter, head tilting forward as he bit his lip.
“Oh…” He breathed out, a heady sort of sensation taking him over at the realization that it wasn’t just him feeling the connection.
“Mn.” The other responded, chuckling. He turned off the hair dryer, placing it back in its spot before he stepped back, tugging on the towel around Wei Wuxian’s shoulders and pulling it off easily; tossing it into the hamper.
He grabbed the shirt, tugging it over Wei Wuxian’s head and moving closer, keeping him trapped in the shirt for a moment; their eyes locked.
“Do you want to Hunt with me?” He asks quietly, eyes flicking down to Wei Wuxian’s mouth before looking back up into his eyes. The glance didn’t go unnoticed if the way Wei Wuxian’s own eyes flicked to his mouth was any indication.
He paused though at the question, obviously debating. Sung Jinwoo gave him the time he needed, watching as the other finally pushed his arms through the sleeves.
“I want to help you.” He replied quietly, leaning into the taller’s space. “I have a feeling you’re stuck with me for a while though if you get me a license.” He finishes, voice a little cheeky.
“Good.” He retorts, watching in amazement as pink blooms across the pale cheeks of the other.
“You’re a menace.” Wei Wuxian splutters, reaching out to punch him lightly in the chest; all it gets him is a chuckle in response.
“You’ll get used to it.” He smirks lightly, tilting his head to the side and causing the other to let out a bright laugh, moonlit eyes sparkling.
He goes to pull the door open for the other, eyes locked on Wei Wuxian’s figure as they make it back out to the living room and spots his sister hurrying for the front door.
“Jinah.” He says, brows furrowed slightly at her rush.
She jumps, spinning around and glancing at him with wide eyes. “Oppa?”
Narrowing his eyes slightly at the innocent act, he shakes his head. “Never mind, do you want a ride?”
She pauses in surprise, eyes shooting to Wei Wuxian who’s watching the exchange curiously. Whatever the connection is between the two men is weirdly enough teaching the other Sung Jinwoo’s native language; and he finds it fascinating.
“Don’t you need to help uh…” She trails off, not sure where she was even going with that before crossing her arms.
“Wuxian and I are going shopping, it won’t be out of the way to drop you off at school.” He finishes, arching a brow.
She scowls, but huffs. “Then I’d appreciate it, but you might want to find him some shoes.” She says pointedly, making all three glance down at his bare feet.
“Oh.” Wei Wuxian laughed awkwardly, reaching up with a hand to scratch the side of his nose lightly.
Sung Jinwoo disappears for a second before handing him a pair of socks, which he tugs on before following the other two to the entryway. The two slip on shoes before Sung Jinwoo reaches for a pair of sneakers that look worn, but smaller and should hopefully fit Wei Wuxian.
He pulls them on, but then looks a little lost at the ties, giving Sung Jinwoo an embarrassed look as the other kneels down to tie the laces. “Ah, Jinwoo! I could’ve…” He trails off, brushing his bangs back as the other ties the shoes quickly.
“It’s no trouble, I’ll show you better how to when we get you some of your own.” He responds, hand going to rest against the other’s lower back like it’s natural.
The three leave the flat, and Wei Wuxian stares blankly at the large van the three of them walk up to. He’s seen lots of things since coming to this time, but a… contraption like this was not what he was expecting.
A chuckle brushes his ear as Sung Jinwoo reaches around him to pull the door open, letting him into the passenger seat. “It won’t bite.” He murmurs, watching as a shiver slides down Wei Wuxian’s spine.
“If you say so.” He replies, a little disbelief coloring his tone. He crawls in before sitting down in the seat, the other buckling him in after he’s settled and their faces close enough to see even the smallest details in each other’s eyes.
They’re interrupted by the stare down by Jinah who clears her throat; a blush staining her cheeks. “Oppa, I’m going to be late!”
Sung Jinwoo pulls away, heat crawling up his neck as he closes the door, and slips around to the other side. They pull away from the curb quickly and make good time, dropping Jinah off at the gates.
It’s quiet as they pull back onto the road, Wei Wuxian staring out at the scenery as they drive. Sung Jinwoo had snagged one of his sister’s hair ties before they left and given it to Wei Wuxian who’d smiled a little before tying it up into a high ponytail, the red ribbon tucked safely into the robes hidden away in the Sung house.
They get to an impressively large building and Wei Wuxian tilts his head against the window; eyes wide at the sheer height.
“Is this that… mall you were telling me about?” He asked, turning stunned eyes on Sung Jinwoo who was giving him an amused look.
“No, we’re stopping here first to get you started on paperwork, so that we can get you a license sooner than later.” He responded, unbuckling. Wei Wuxian’s mouth dropped into an o shape as the other leaned over, unbuckling him too.
They got out, and Wei Wuxian moved to the other’s side - wary of all the new people walking around them. He didn’t have it in him to be the sunshine right now; moonlight seemed a better option in his new reality, at least until he felt more comfortable.
Stepping inside, they made it to the front desk and Sung Jinwoo asked if the Chairman was in, needing to speak with him. People were staring unabashedly at the taller man, but also at the new face standing next to him, looking like a model on their day off.
Wincing, Wei Wuxian moved a little closer, uncomfortable with the staring. It shouldn’t have bothered him, he’d grown used to it back in the old time. But these people made him feel like he was a bug and it left him feeling increasingly restless.
A hand settling on his lower back had him relaxing almost immediately, his head snapping up to see Sung Jinwoo glaring over his head at the people that were staring at him. It had his chest aching at the silent care directed at him and nearly made his eyes mist over; though he just turned more towards Sung Jinwoo in quiet thanks.
The receptionist looked flustered but allowed them up, the Chairman free for Hunter Sung.
Walking into the elevator, Wei Wuxian felt his shoulders slump though he jumped when the metal box began to make its ascent.
“This time has such weird machines.” He gasps, a hand flashing out to grab Sung Jinwoo’s shirt in his hand.
Chuckling, the other brought him a little closer, thumb brushing soothing circles against the other’s spine.
“This isn’t even half of it.” He retorted, getting a wrinkled nose in response and making him think ‘Cute’ inside.
The elevator stops and they step out, Sung Jinwoo keeping his hand against the other’s back as Wei Wuxian looks around, silvery orbs curious.
Making it to a room at the end of a semi long hallway, it opens before they reach it and they step through. A large, intimidating looking elder is standing up from behind a desk, scars covering most of his body but a curious look on his face as he glances between them. Short grey hair and goatee finish off his look, suit snug against his powerful physique.
Another man is standing by the doorway, the one who’d opened the door. He’s similar in build to Wei Wuxian and Sung Jinwoo, but his hair is shoulder length and slicked back, sunglasses hiding his eyes. His hands are clasped in front of him, non threatening but ready for anything in the way he stands.
“Chairman Go.” Sung Jinwoo greets, bowing. Wei Wuxian hurries to greet him too, the customary greeting from his youth shining through in the way he bows with his hands clasped in front of him.
“Hunter Sung, this is a surprise.” The gruff man replies, eyes moving to Wei Wuxian curiously before sliding back to Sung Jinwoo who looks vaguely amused and uncomfortable.
“I found my friend here in that C-Gate I went to last night, the one that turned red as soon as I stepped through.” Eyes locked on the Chairman, they both notice as he furrows his brows, eyes flicking between them.
“Found him?” He asks a bit incredulously.
“Wuxian is mortal but… he was pushed through time and wound up in that gate by accident.” He responds quietly, both men in the room stiffening before they glance at Wei Wuxian who grimaces in apology; though why he is is anyone’s guess.
“Pushed through time…?” Chairman Go asks, eyes sharpening as he turns to take in the shorter male.
Clearing his throat, Wei Wuxian raises his hand to brush the side of his nose lightly before shrugging his shoulders a little helplessly. “Jinwoo told me it was 2025 last night, I believe I’m from 2 millennia in the past.” He replied quietly, the language barrier nearly nonexistent now that he’d been speaking with Sung Jinwoo and whatever connected them helped to communicate; even with other people.
The man by the door loses his composure in his surprise for a moment, brows shooting up over the edge of his glasses. Chairman Go isn’t much better as he sits down in his chair, eyes wide.
“That’s…” His brows furrow, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Impossible?” Wei Wuxian’s lips twist up wryly, a slight laugh falling from his lips. “‘Attempt the Impossible’ was the motto for my clan, though for once I can say this didn’t have anything to do with me. I thought I was dead until I woke up at that gate.” His arms cross, looking vaguely uncomfortable at the mention of his clan.
Sung Jinwoo glances at him, getting a slight smile in return from the other at the silent consideration.
“He’s got no paperwork and he’s capable of… things similar to myself, I’d like to help him get a hunter’s license.” Sung Jinwoo says, looking at the Chairman who straightens at that, already pulling up the screen of his monitor.
“We can get some paperwork set up for him, when would you like to take him to the Hunter’s Guild to be accessed?” Chairman Go asks, typing a few things in here and there.
“Whenever you’re able to get his paperwork filed, the sooner the better. I’ve got Gate’s set up and I don’t wish to be accused of bringing a civilian into them.” He replied, crossing his arms over his chest.
The man at the door glances between the three of them curiously, “He’s on par with you?” He asks, glasses sliding down slightly to show his dark eyes.
Sung Jinwoo nods once, leaning back against the arm of the couch he’s standing beside. “Almost eerily so, though he can also heal.” He finishes, glancing over at Wei Wuxian who moved a little closer to the Chairman to fill in his papers, curious to see the new technology.
Woo Jinchul - the man in glasses, shoots a look over at Wei Wuxian standing next to the Chairman and feels not so much surprised as he is unsure. Anyone can tell he’s human but… he feels different, and he’s not sure why.
Sung Jinwoo turns eerie blue eyes on the other, arching a brow and wondering if he’ll say anything; but he doesn’t get a response - just a nod in acknowledgement.
Another Hunter on the level of Sung Jinwoo would shake the foundation of South Korea, but maybe that’s just what they needed.
Wei Wuxian looked up, meeting Woo Jinchul’s eyes for a moment before glancing at Sung Jinwoo who gazed at him, a slight smile lighting up their faces at the same time before he looked back down at the screen, the Chairman already looking fond of the young man.
