Chapter Text
“Chigiriii.” Nagi whined.
“What is it?” Chigiri snapped.
He was awoken from his beauty sleep to be a mediator for the fiftieth time that week. “If it’s about one of your fights with Reo, sort it yourself.”
“But he’s reaallyy mad.” Chigiri took a moment to think. He decided to give in like always.
“Alright. Spill.”
Chigiri fluffed one of his pillows and propped himself up on it. His reddish-pink hair cascaded down his shoulders like a waterfall.
“He was sleeping, and I poured a bucket of ice-water on him as a joke but there was actually a spider in there, so it crawled on his face.”
“Oh. I see.” Chigiri’s voice wavered as he tried to hold in the laughter threatening to escape.
Nagi stayed silent.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry. Buy him some flowers or something.”
“But it’s a hassle.”
“Just picture how Reo would feel. He would be super happy.”
Nagi’s end became silent.
“I guess.” He murmured, “Brb in five mins.”
Chigiri sighed as he pressed the ‘END’ button.
As he was scrolling on his phone, he noticed Reo had posted photos on his Instagram.
He clicked on it and snickered to himself.
The caption read, ‘Thanks my treasure for these flowers. Luv u a lot!! @Nagi_ss’ with a few pictures of him posing with the flowers.
After a few hours of procrastinating, Chigiri managed to snap back to reality with the help of a cold shower.
“I need to study so I’ll head out to a nearby café.”
Chigiri reminded himself. He did his morning routine (his skincare and haircare took the most time).
He dressed in a cream turtle-neck jumper underneath a light-orange cardigan and a pair of black baggy trousers. He paired it with black and white converse high-tops.
He flung his black tote bag over his shoulder.
‘Five-minute cafes from my location.’
Chigiri typed into his phone. Suggestions flooded the screen; a popular café caught his eye,
‘Café Kugi’.
He stepped outside and locked his bedroom door.
“Where you off to, Chi-Chi?” A guy that had fluffy black hair with yellow highlights asked.
He was sprawled on the sofa, eyes glued to his phone.
“None of your business, Bachira.” Chigiri barked.
“Sure, sure.” Bachira turned to face Chigiri, a mischievous expression painted his face.
“Yo, Chigiri.” A familiar voice greeted.
Bachira turned his phone to face Chigiri. A boy with plain black hair and midnight blue eyes waved.
“Hey Isagi! Could you tell your boyfriend to leave me alone.” Chigiri smiled sarcastically.
“He wouldn’t listen anyway.” Isagi said in his usual laid-back tone.
Chigiri rolled his eyes.
“I’m off, bye.”
Chigiri awkwardly shuffled out the door and slammed it shut.
‘Those two are such weirdos.’ He thought.
He drove to the café.
Most of the drive was him singing with his favourite songs. After fifteen minutes, he arrived.
He parked his car and stepped outside, inhaling the remnants of the earthly smell the heavy rainfall left behind.
It was a two-story, forest green building lined by massive, tinted windows.
Chigiri pushed open the glass, double doors. The café was partially full; upbeat R&B music filled the vacant air.
His gaze locked on Nagi and Reo who were snuggled up together in a stripy, red and white booth.
Reo waved over to him, and he approached them.
“What a coincidence.” Reo chuckled as he caressed Nagi’s hair.
Nagi gave a small smile and restored his gaze on his phone.
“I know right,” Chigiri smiled as he sat down and placed his bag beside him.
Chigiri began scanning the menu. Nothing new interested him; he chose his regular. An iced vanilla latte and two gingerbread cookies. “Have you guys ordered yet?”
“No, still looking at the menu.”
“Bet you are.” Chigiri nudged Reo and winked.
Reo buried his piping hot face in his grey sleeves. Chigiri snickered to himself and pinched Nagi’s nose. “Are you ready to order?”
“Hassle.” He stated.
“It’s okay, my treasure, I’ll order something for you.” Reo planted a hundred kisses on Nagi’s forehead.
“Great.” Chigiri murmured. “Am I a third-wheeler or what?”
“I’m going to call a waiter.”
Coincidentally, as Chigiri was about to raise his hand, a waited appeared in front of them.
He double-took.
Was this cupid’s way of reminding him he was lonely?
A 6’2 guy with fluffy orange hair styled in an undercut stood at the head of the table.
His dazzling auburn eyes met Chigiri’s.
“Ready to order?” The waiter asked gruffly.
Chigiri was still gawking at him with heart eyes.
“Is there a problem.”
“Shit yeah, sorry.” Chigiri anxiously chuckled.
He intertwined a strand of his silky hair around his index finger. “Could I have an iced vanilla latte with two gingerbread cookies?”
“Yeah.”
He glanced over at Reo admiring a sleeping Nagi.
“What about these two lovebirds?”
“I’m assuming they’re not having anything.” Chigiri impatiently sighed.
“Alright, your total is £4.50. Cash or card?”
“Card.”
Chigiri kicked Reo’s shin and stared at him longingly.
“You’re paying since you’re practically ignoring me for your boyfriend.”
“Whatever.”
Reo slid his card to Chigiri and began, like it was muscle memory, patting Nagi’s head.
The man held out a card machine and Chigiri tapped it on top.
BEEP!
“Want a receipt?” The man asked.
“No thanks.”
“Alright. Your order will be ready soon.”
The man whipped around and disappeared through a tall, wooden door behind the cash register.
Chigiri pulled out his notebook and laptop; he began studying.
After five minutes, his order arrived.
“That was quick.” He commented, catching a whiff of vanilla. “Smells divine too.”
“I am an expert.” The boy shrugged sarcastically.
Chigiri took a sip and exhaled with satisfaction.
He observed the orange haired man’s badge, it read, ‘KUNIGAMI.’
“Well, Kunigami,” Chigiri said, his voice laced with tease, “This is delightful. I’ll be backk~.”
“I’ll be waiting.” He responded in the same tone. A light pink blush stained Chigiri’s cheeks.
Kunigami winked and sauntered away.
“Care to explain what happened there?” Reo remarked.
Slurrppppp….
“Take a hint, dumbass.” Chigiri rolled his eyes and began typing away at his laptop.
Silence hung in the air, gradually enclosing them until it reached the point of suffocation.
After an hour or two, Chigiri decided to call it a day and departed home.
Nearly every day, Chigiri had visited the same café to see Kunigami.
A FEW DAYS LATER…

Awesome sauce gc:
Bachira-bee: Hey guys,

Reo: I’ll check my sched, hold on.
Chigiri: Ofc, you’re always busy.
Reo: Oh, shut up.
Jealousy doesn’t suit you…
Chigiri: Wdym??
Why would I be jealous when I can relax. Unlike you…
Stfu man…
:x Nagi: You stfu
Chigiri: Oh, look who’s replied.
Mr lazy ass.
Slursagi (Isagi): Calm down guys.
But I can meet up!
:x Nagi & Chigiri: STFU ISAGI!!
Isagi: I didn’t do nun to y’all.
Reo: I can meet up at 3.
Chigiri: Same lol… :))
Bachira-bee: OK. 3 it is.
Where should we meet?
Reo: I’ll send the location.
*location*
Chigiri, Slursagi & 2 others: Okay.
Cya there!
BYE BYE…
:x
Chigiri switched off his phone and drove to the usual café.
He found Isagi and Bachira beside the entrance chatting and laughing.
Bachira jumped on Chigiri, causing him to stumble over.
Chigiri noticed Kunigami was watching through the window, an amused look was plastered on his face.
“Bachira. What the hell.” Chigiri shot up and brushed off his clothes.
“So glad to see you Chi-Chi.” Bachira sang.
“What do you mean? We literally share a dorm!”
“Well, you never leave your room.” Bachira whined. “Unless you leave to come here.”
He gestured towards the café.
Isagi turned to Chigiri and grinned,
“Anyhow, I hear you have a little crush.”
“You’ve heard wrong.” Chigiri crossed his arms.
He couldn’t let them know he did, they would probably mock him or successfully fail to be match-makers.
“We will see.” Isagi murmured.
Skrttttt…
A jet-black Rolls-Royce graced their presence.
“Look who’s here.” Chortled Chigiri.
Reo stepped out of the car, followed by Nagi.
“The glitz and glam prince has arrived.” Beamed Bachira as he ran up to hug Reo.
“Hey everyone. Sorry we’re late, Nagi wouldn’t wake up.” Reo spluttered.
“It’s all good. At least you’re here.” Isagi raised his thumbs. “Let’s go in.
Everyone nodded (except for Nagi who was engrossed in his game).
The café was bustling.
Jazz music fought against the sounds of chatter.
They chose a booth in the corner and sat down.
“This place is awesome.” Bachira complimented. “No wonder Chi-Chi goes here every day.” He added a wink at the end.
Chigiri flipped him off.
Everyone read the menu. “So, shall we order or?” Chigiri asked.
“Yeah. I’ll have coffee and Bachira wants a pumpkin spice latte with a gingerbread man.” Isagi responded.
“Okay.” Chigiri scribbled the request on his palm. “What about you two?”
“Two hot chocolates for me and Nagi.” Reo smiled.
“Sure. I’ll order.” Chigiri slipped out of the booth and strolled over to the counter.
He waited for a bit before repeatedly tapping the bell.
“What the hell. Is there anyone there?” Chigiri exasperated.
Kunigami crouched under the opening of the counter and appeared behind the cash register.
His eyes lit up.
“Hey. Don’t you ever get tired of visiting?” Kunigami chuckled.
“Nope. What took you so long?”
“Maybe I was serving other customers?”
“Well, I shouldn’t have to stand here for five minutes waiting for your slow ass to get here.” Chigiri huffed.
“Mhm. Noted, princess.”
“Stop it with the nickname. I’m a grown ass man.”
“Well, you’re still my princess.” Chigiri turned bright red.
He read the order on his palm to distract himself.
He cleared his throat.
“So can I have two hot chocolates, one pumpkin spice latte, one coffee, three gingerbread men and an iced vanilla latte.”
Chigiri grinned, “Think you can remember that?”
Kunigami scoffed. “I am a professional after all.”
“Alright, whatever you say. The table number is 29.”
Kunigami nodded and floated through a tall door.
Chigiri returned to the table, all eyes were fixated on him. “Is there a problem?”
“You were there for a long time.” Isagi snickered.
“And?” Chigiri retorted. “Not like you guys were saying anything interesting.”
“Fair.” Isagi shrugged. “Soo, how’s your studying going?”
“Fine thanks, you?”
“Great.”
“Did you hear about Aiku’s party?” Reo sniggered as he stroked Nagi’s hair.
“Yeah. It was a disaster.” Chigiri snorted with laughter.
The group conversed for a while.
Kunigami smiled and placed a large, circular tray of drinks and biscuits on their table.
“Enjoy.” He muttered.
“Wait,” Bachira began, a devious expression painted his face. “Chigiri wants your number but he’s too afraid to ask.”
Chigiri nearly spat out his drink.
He quickly swallowed it and glared at Bachira.
“Oh really.” Kunigami was suppressing his laughter. “I don’t bite, you know.”
He glanced over at a cringing Chigiri.
His reaction was followed by a robotic laugh.
Kunigami grinned like a Cheshire cat and scribbled something on a post-it-note.
He held it out to Chigiri and he snatched it. “I’ll call you later, okay?” Kunigami joked.
“Shut up.” Murmured Chigiri as he slid down on the, forest-green, leather couch in embarrassment.
Kunigami waved and departed to serve some customers beside them.
“See, it wasn’t that hard, Chi-Chi.” Bachira giggled.
“Is that the point?” Chigiri chided. “He must think I’m a coward now.”
“Nah.” Isagi reassured, “He’s probably glad if anything.”
Chigiri chugged his latte and discreetly opened the note under the table. It read,
My number is +xx xxxxxxxxx. I’ll call u…
♥
‘Sure will.’ Chigiri thought.
The evening flew by, and it was time for everyone to go home.
“It was nice meeting up.” Reo stated.
“Yeah, defo.” Chigiri agreed, “We should do this again.”
Nagi lazily raised his thumbs and slumped against Reo’s shoulders.
A sunflower yellow taxi pulled up beside the entrance to the café.
“Me and Bachira will be heading off now. Bye everyone!” Isagi bowed and linked arms with Bachira.
“Too-da-loo~” Bachira sang as he and Isagi skipped towards the taxi.
Reo, Nagi and Chigiri headed towards their cars.
When Chigiri arrived home, he had a relaxing bath and changed into his pjs (a loose, grey t-shirt and baggy blue joggers).
He expertly tied his glossy hair into a ponytail and began studying.
RING,
RING!
RING-
“Yeah?” Chigiri asked.
“Hey, it’s me. Kunigami.”
“Ohh you. I didn’t think you would actually call me.”
“Don’t be silly.” Kunigami sighed.
“So, what are you doing?” Chigiri asked, trying to relive the lingering awkwardness.
“Nothing much. You?”
“Studying.”
“Nice.”
“Do you mind if I call you back? We can talk properly.”
Loud silence filled the air.
Chigiri bit his well-manicured nails in anticipation.
“Sure thing. Don’t take too long though.” Kunigami forced out a reassuring laugh.
Deep down, he felt disappointed.
“Cya.” Chigiri hung up the phone and resumed his studying.
Half-an-hour later,
Chigiri had finally decided it was time for a break.
He picked up his phone and clicked on Kunigami’s icon.
His finger hovered over the ‘CALL’ button.
He felt a bit hesitant.
What if he’d thought he was being dismissive and won’t answer?
‘It’s worth a shot.’ He shrugged.
RING,
RING!
RI-.
“Hello?” Kunigami said in a low, husky voice.
“Hi. It’s me, Chigiri.”
Kunigami cleared his throat and softened his tone. “How was it?”
“Pretty good. On my break now.”
“Ah, I see…”
“I think we should re-introduce ourselves,”
The other line became silent.
“You know, with no distractions.”
“I agree. I will do the honours. I am Rensuke Kunigami, I’m 21 and I like football.”
“Great. I’m Chigiri Hyoma, I’m 20 and I also like football!”
“Nice. Do you have a job?”
“I’m looking for one. I used to work in a clothes shop, but that job became boring.”
“We’re hiring, you know. You should work with me.”
“Hm. Is the pay good?”
“I guess.”
“Alright. I’ll consider it.”
“Who’s that, Kunigami?” A muffled voice called.
“None of your business, Shidou.” Kunigami snapped.
“Wait a minute, isn’t he the one that managed to bag Sae?” Chigiri tittered in amusement.
“Yeah. He’s dating Sae.”
“Insane.” Chigiri clicked his tongue. “I wonder how he deals with that, freaky ass guy.”
“For real. Poor guy.”
A few banging sounds emitted from Kunigami’s end and then it became silent.
“Everything alright there?”
“Yeah, sorry. Shidou started throwing stuff at Rin and then they got into a fight.”
“Typical Shidou.”
Chigiri rolled his eyes. Their relationship blossomed from there.
Daily, Chigiri visited Kunigami at the café and they gradually became closer.
Chigiri felt himself developing feelings for him, but it always seemed to be one-sided.
A FEW MONTHS LATER…
Notes:
I probably should proof-read this when I have time. :)
I really love writing dialogue… it’s just fun! :D
Chapter Text
Chigiri decided that today was the day that he was going to confess his feelings to Kunigami.
He’d given him subtle clues like flirting or giving him gifts, but he was oblivious.
He decided to wear his favourite outfit.
Baggy, cargo sweatpants with a cream oversized jumper and red converse high-tops. His hair was in a half-up-half-down style.; the bottom strands snaked down his neck.
He had a few ideas of their itinerary for today.
They would go to a shopping centre, the arcade and to dinner.
Chigiri pulled out his phone and typed, with trembling hands, texted Kunigami.
Chigiri: Hey Kuni, are you free today?
Kunigami replied instantaneously.
Kunigami: Yeah. Why?
Chigiri: I was wondering if you wanted to hang out??? :))
Kunigami: Yup.
U going to pick me up?
Chigiri: Yeah, if u want.
Kunigami: Okay. If you see Shidou, ignore him.
Chigiri: I will try to with his freaky ass.
Kunigami: XDD.
Here’s the location,
*location*
I’m on the 5th floor and the door number is 516.
Pick me up in 30 minutes.
Chigiri: Got it. Cya there!!
Kunigami: Goodbye.
Chigiri stuffed his phone into his pocket and rushed out of the dorm.
He prayed the traffic-jam hadn’t begun.
The road was ironically desolate.
The cherry-blossom leaves danced in the gentle, spring breeze.
The sun sat on its throne above the clouds, taunting its city with its unpredictable heat.
After twenty-five minutes of driving, Chigiri arrived at Kunigami’s apartment.
The exterior was iron-coloured, with beautifully sculptured balconies. Large windows lined the middle of the apartment, welcoming light with open arms.
“This is beautiful!” Chigiri exclaimed as he admired the building staring at him with elegance.
He stepped out of the car and did one last check in the rear mirror before entering the building.
‘Which floor was it again? Chigiri asked himself, trying to recall the past messages ‘Oh yeah, floor 5.’
He entered the waiting elevator and twiddled his thumbs in anticipation.
His anxiety was off the charts.
He inhaled and exhaled and repeated funny moments in his head to cure his anxiousness.
DING!
He reached his destination and warily stepped out of the lift.
KNOCK,
KNOCK!
Chigiri knocked louder this time.
KNOCK,
KNOCK!
He heard someone fiddling with the locks on the other side.
A gust of air whacked him in the face.
A muscular man with heterochromia eyes (one forest green and the other ocean blue), and an unshaven beard towered over Chigiri.
‘He looks like an elderly version of Bachira.’ Chigiri chuckled to himself.
“Who is this pretty lady?” He whistled.
“I’m actually a guy.” Chigiri corrected, he cleared his throat, “I’m Chigiri Hyoma.”
“Ahh, you’re that man Kunigami yapps about all the time.”
Aiku rubbed his beard, as if he was planning his next response.
“I’m Oliver Aiku. Call me Aiku.”
“A pleasure, Aiku.”
“Could you let me in, the AC is too much out here.”
Chigiri gestured to a large, rectangular machine, blowing blue air into the atmosphere.
“Shit, my bad.”
Aiku shuffled to the side and Chigiri stepped inside.
He was greeted with messy laundry and take-away boxes scattered on the floor, an upside-down sofa and a cracked TV.
“Sorry about this. Rin and Shidou had another fight.” Aiku rubbed his nape and nervously chuckled.
“Its fine. I know Shidou.”
“Did someone summon me.” A cocky voice remarked.
Shidou emerged from a tall, smoky-grey door.
His hands were buried into his pockets as he sauntered towards Chigiri. “What the fuck are you doing here.”
“Nice to see you too, Shiodu.” Chigiri sneered. He wasn’t excited to see him.
“How do you know my name, stranger?”
“How could I not.” Chigiri rolled his eyes, “I heard you managed to bag Sae.”
“Yep, sure did. We’re engaged now.”
Shidou flashed a rhinestone ring in Chigiri’s face and slipped his hand back into his pocket.
“WHAT?!” Chigiri shrieked. His face contorted into shock. “HOW, WHAT, WHEN, WHY?? I have so many questions, right now.”
“I gave Sae, the good stuff, and he was infatuated by it. It’s like I hypnotised him or some typa shit.”
“No shit sherlock. That is not the Sae I know.”
Shidou let out a boisterous laugh, which trailed behind him like a cape, and disappeared into the kitchen.
“Make yourself comfortable. I’ll tell Kunigami that you’re here.”
Aiku grinned and travelled up the spiralling staircase beside the sofa.
Chigiri sat down and crossed his legs.
The sofa was as comfortable as his bed, he could almost fall asleep on it.
Chigiri began scrolling on his phone distract himself from the chaos around him.
Rin entered through the entrance and scowled at Chigiri’s presence.
“Yeah, fuck you too, Rin.” Chigiri scoffed without looking up from his phone.
Rin flipped him off and locked himself in his room.
It had already been ten minutes and Chigiri was still waiting for Kunigami.
He huffed and resumed his scrolling on Pinterest.
Quick-paced footsteps were emitted from the stairs.
It was Kunigami.
Chigiri glanced up, annoyance swirled in his eyes.
“Took your fucking time, princess. Were you putting on makeup or something?” Chigiri exasperated.
“Sorry about that. Stuff happened.” Kunigami stated.
Chigiri made a sound of disapproval and raised from his seat.
They exited the building and departed in Chigiri’s car.
The silence gnawed at Kunigami’s mind until he had enough and broke it.
“How are you?” He asked in a low voice.
“You and your small talk can piss off.” Chigiri hissed.
“I was ten minutes late. It’s not that bad.”
“I had to deal with Rin the bitch, freaky antennae-bastard, and Aiku the hoe-hunter.” Chigiri clutched the steering wheel in frustration.
“Well, it was kind of short notice.” Kunigami snapped.
“Well, you shouldn’t have told me half-an-hour, then, if you can’t follow time.”
Kunigami clicked his tongue in defeat and sunk into the leather seat. He decided to try a new approach, a tactic he learnt from Otoya the ninja expert.
Nin-Niin.
“You look so cute.” Kunigami tried his best to sound flirtatious.
Chigiri glanced at Kunigami and raised his eyebrow.
“Is this supposed to flatter me?”
“Kind of.” Chigiri giggled at the attempt.
He stopped at the red light and turned to Kunigami.
“Aww, how can I ever stay mad at you.”
He cooed as he squeezed Kunigami’s light-pink cheeks.
Kunigami yelped at the sudden contact of icy fingers which caused Chigiri to jolt backwards.
“Sorry, got a little carried away.”
“You’re good. Where are we even going anyways?”
“You’ll see.” Chigiri tapped the side of his nose and smirked.
After few twists here and turns there, they arrived at their destination.
Chigiri pulled into a cave-like carpark.
“Where exactly are we?” Kunigami questioned, suspicion evident by his tone.
“Stop asking me that.” Chigiri huffed, “You’ll see for the 100th time.”
Kunigami crossed his arms and sulked like a child.
Chigiri locked the car door and stepped outside.
Kunigami followed. They entered a large lift and Chigiri pressed a red button.
A few seconds later, the doors flung themselves open.
The crisp morning air bombarded them.
A cylindrical, unusually tall, skyscraper stood before them. A sign on the roof read,
‘Grand Opening of The Tallest Skyscraper in The World!! Food and Drinks Are FREE. DON’T MISS OUT.”
“Woah!” Kunigami gasped, he rubbed his eyes a few times to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating. “This is spectacular.”
“I know right.” Chigiri boasted with a wide grin, “Knew you would like it.”
Kunigami hugged Chigiri tightly, picked him up and spun him around.
Chigiri felt his cheeks burn with embarrassment as most people were staring at them. “Let go now, I feel dizzy.”
“Sorry.”
Kunigami gently placed Chigiri down like he was an ancient artifact.
“Let’s go.”
Chigiri wordlessly nodded and followed Kunigami.
They queued up to get into another elevator, the wait was forty-five minutes.
They were finally seated at a table blanketed in white and red, with an intricately crafted golden vase sitting on top.
The sun peered over the horizon at the sky bathed in hues of blues, pinks and purples.
They casted a brilliant pastel-purple glow inside the skyscraper restaurant.
Kunigami’s eyes glimmered in awe.
“Thank you so much for this.” He began, “I’m lucky to have you as my best-friend.”
The words stabbed Chigiri through the heart. Best-friend.
He was so drunk on his feelings that he didn’t realise he was becoming delusional.
Kunigami only saw him as a friend and nothing else.
‘Should I still confess?’ Chigiri asked himself, unsure if this was reality.
His mind became a cacophony of voices.
Some telling him he should, some on the fence, some telling him he shouldn’t.
He dismissed the voices and decided to bite the bullet.
Today he will confess, even if Kunigami did see him as a friend.
“I need to tell you something.” Chigiri murmured.
Kunigami set his menu on the table and attentively turned his attention to Chigiri.
Lilac painted the side of his face.
He was so beautiful.
“Yeah?” Kunigami responded.
Chigiri hesitated.
Should he really risk it all?
Their relationship, their friendship?
“I love you.” He blurted out.
It was as if everything had frozen.
It was just them and the moment.
Kunigami’s face remained neutral, his eyes betrayed him as they were wide.
“Its fine if you don’t.” Chigiri quickly added to ease the tension that was gradually entering the air.
Kunigami silently leaned in and gently kissed Chigiri’s rosy, pink lips.
Chigiri cupped Kunigami’s cheeks and melted into the kiss.
As the kiss deepened, the time flew by.
Kunigami pulled away, gasping for air.
“I love you too.” He smiled brightly.
