Chapter 1: Ears like a Hawk

Chapter Text

It started with a simple question from the young med student after she overheard her attending tease his night shift counterpart over the mess of patients he was being handed.

“Alright, that’s handover done. Good luck with the circus Rabbit,” Dr Robby jabbed. “Pipe down you and go home!” Dr Abbot retorted.

Perplexed by the interaction, Victoria turned to Dr Mohan and asked, “Why in the world did Robby just call Dr Abbot a rabbit?”

“Honestly, I’ve just learned not to question it when they have weird nicknames for each other” She had been working with the two of them for long enough to pick up on the various pet names the two senior physicians had for one another. This one, however, always made her wonder where it came from.

Javadi pondered, “I wonder why - he doesn’t seem all that rodent-like, or one for nicknames for that matter, like why Rabbit.”

As if he had the keen ears of his eponymous animal, Dr Abbot quickly nipped their conversation in the bud, “Not that it’s any of your business, but it’s because I can hear interns gossiping from a thousand paces. ”

Victoria was mortified that they were overheard by the man himself and tried to shrink into the wall behind her. Meanwhile, Samira chuckled to herself as her sentiments were proven right: just don't question it.

“And they’re lagomorphs, not rodents,” Abbott corrected as he sped off in the direction of an incoming trauma.
