Chapter 1: Buying the Perfect Home - It's a Long Fucking Process

Chapter Text

It's been a month.

A month engaged to Evan 'Buck' Buckley.

It's been ecstasy. Literally and figuratively...

They haven't talked about a wedding or anything about their future. They've just been.

And it's been real fucking great.

Eddie would like to talk about their wedding, he's started making some bullet points on a note on his phone of some things he's been thinking of.

He's had it for a little while. Shortly before he actually proposed.

+++++

Buck and Eddie have a shift today, Buck drove, of course.

They walk hand-in-hand into the firehouse, as always, then Eddie puts his and Buck's bags in their shared locker as Buck goes elsewhere.

And before Eddie can even meet him find out where Buck wandered off to, he's being ambushed.

"You need to stop your fiancé now." Hen demands sourly, Chimney standing next to her with a determined look on his face.

His brows furrow. "What? Is he okay?"

They roll their eyes. "Yes. J-just follow us, now."

He blinks rapidly. "Uh, okay."

Hen and Chim lead Eddie to inbetween the engines, where Buck is currently standing, looking down at an—Eddie freezes in place.

Shit.

Buck has a clipboard in his hands.

And not just any clipboard.

Their clipboard.

As in Buck and Eddie's clipboard that they leave at home...

Eddie slowly makes his way over to Buck.

Buck finally notices his presence and smiles up at him. "Hey, baby."

"Hey." Eddie greets. "What're you doing?"

"Writing a list." Buck mumbles, vigorously writing things down on a piece of paper on the clipboard.

Eddie can't help but stare and wonder what his clever fiancé is writing down on that thing.

"Stop staring at him and grab the clipboard!" Chimney shouts.

Eddie looks at Chim. "He's not doing anything but writing a list for..."

Buck flips the clipboard around,  showing Eddie the title, then quickly flips it back around, with a smile.

Eddie looks at it, then to Hen and Chim. "He's just writing a list for..." it processes.

The Ultimate Wedding: Eddie Diaz & Evan Buckley

"Wait." Eddie jerks his head back to Buck. "You're making a list for our wedding? W-we haven't discussed it yet..." He stammers.

Buck looks up at Eddie nervously. "Uhm. Well. I just started having ideas and had to write them down, so..."

Eddie smiles. "I'm not mad or anything. I kinda have a little list too. On my phone, like a normal person."

Buck snorts.

Hen notes, "That's at least ten pages thick, Eddie. That is not a little list."

"Oh." Eddie breathes, seeing that she's right.

"Well whatever it is, put the clipboard away." Chimney snarks.

Buck hugs it to his chest. "No."

"He's not hurting anyone." He says to Hen and Chim. "He's just writing stuff down that I now need to see." He looks at Buck.

Buck looks at him. "Wait til I'm done, then we can compare notes and stuff."

Eddie nods, grinning. "Deal." Then Eddie looks back at Hen and Chim. "If he starts terrorizing you guys, then you can come get me. Until then, he's fine."

He looks back at his fiancé with a smirk. "And make sure you don't forget to bring that back home and put it back where it belongs." Eddie winks.

Buck blushes, then takes the clipboard and himself up to the loft.

"Oh my God." Hen breathes, newly disgusted.

"What?" Chimney asks her.

"Hold on...Eddie?"

He turns around and faces her. "Hm?"

"Why do you and Buck have a clipboard at home?"

Eddie grins. "For, uh, extracurricular activities." He then walks upstairs to join his fiancé.

"Oh, God." Chim gags.

"Yeah." Hen tries to erase some images that keep popping into her head.

Bobby walks over to them. "You two okay?"

"I know things about them now that I wish I didn't know." Hen states.

"It's your fault, Hen! You asked!"

"Ah, I see." Bobby understands now. "That's why I don't ask questions when it comes to those two."

"Definitely going to remember that." Hen says.

"You better. And not just for your sake. Jesus."

"Shut up, Chim."

Bobby walks up to the loft, laughing silently.

+++++

Buck has been extremely cryptic about the clipboard and the list all shift.

He even hides it away so no one can see what he's written down.

Even from Eddie.

He knows Buck said once he's finished they'd compare notes. But Eddie can't help that he's curious.

He wants to know what Buck has written down. He's excited and antsy to see what his fiancé wrote.

Halfway through the shift, the clipboard disappears. Buck just carries on like normal.

He comes over to the couch on the loft and cuddles up to Eddie.

"Hi," Buck greets cheekily, placing a kiss to Eddie's cheek, then lays his head down on Eddie's shoulder. Then he wraps his arms around Eddie's waist, his legs tangled with Eddie's.

Eddie's not complaining, he, of course, wraps his arms around Buck and places his chin on Buck's head. "Hi, cariño."

He's confused as to why the clipboard has suddenly vanished. But he doesn't say anything.

He's not going to. He's going to let Buck bring it up first.

He's not going to push Buck into talking about it until he's ready.

+++++

That plan goes to shit because he doesn't see the clipboard for a week.

It's not in their nightstand drawer of toys,—where it always stays unless they're using it—Buck doesn't bring it to work, it's no where.

And Eddie's fucking losing it.

But he's not going to say anything. He's going to let Buck do his thing, and then come to Eddie once he's ready.

Then, a few days later, there it is.

It's in Buck's hands. He's sitting on his side of their bed against the headboard, covers over his legs, and he's just reading through it, pencil in his mouth, his face scrunched up in concentration.

Fuck, it's hot.

Yes, Eddie is aware he is a freak for his fiancé.

"Hey, cosas calientes." (cosas calientes: hot stuff.) Eddie greets. "Whatcha doing?" Eddie slowly sits down onto the bed, not looking at what Buck is writing.

"Just writing down some stuff." He mumbles, taking the pencil out of his mouth to speak and make some edits.

"Anything I'm allowed to see?" He asks, softly. Making sure not to seem too overeager and push Buck past his limits.

"Not yet."

"Okay." Eddie reaches over and delicately runs Buck's golden curls between his fingers. Keeping his eyes on Buck's face and body.

Which really isn't that difficult.

Buck melts at the motion. "That feels good."

"I know, mi amor." Eddie says, sweetly. "May I ask what brought you to bring it out again?"

"I've had it ever since that day at work. I've just been doing some edits here and there, usually when you're on shift."

"Ten pages all about our wedding?"

"No. About other stuff too."

"Oh?" That gets Eddie's attention. "Like what?" Eddie talks softly, to keep not only himself calm and grounded, but Buck too.

"Uh. Well. I have a list for the wedding, and I may have added some things to..."

Eddie gasps, retracting his hand, sitting back on his heels. "The kinky list. Oh, now I must see that one, babe."

"Just call it The List, Eds."

"Okay. Okay. The List. Now lemme see."

Buck hesitates.

"Oh? You put some really kinky stuff on there, huh? Is that why you're hesitating?"

Buck nods.

"Well in case you forgot, I like everything we do."

"I'm a freak, in case you forgot, babe."

"Oh no, I could never. Especially because I am too. So, may I?" Eddie extends his hand for Buck to place the list in it.

Buck meets Eddie's eyes. "Maybe later. I may or may not be adding some stuff still.

Eddie's breath halters. "Jesus." He takes a seconds. "Yeah, okay. Sure. Show me whenever you're ready for me to see it."

Buck grins. "Maybe this weekend?"

"Hell, yes."

Buck giggles. "Can't wait. Especially since Chris has got that sleepover with one of his classmates this whole weekend."

Eddie nods, "Yeah, I remember." He feels almost like he's having an out of body experience.

Buck chuckles, grounding Eddie, brining him back. "You okay?"

Eddie nods, more sure this time, his voice sounding like his own now. "Yeah, I'm good. Sorry. Just—you with a clipboard—Jesus."

"Down, boy." Buck snorts. "But, I, uh, have another list here I've been working on lately."

"Oh, yeah?" Eddie reaches for Buck's empty hand, taking it in his own.

"Mhm." Buck nods. "It's, uh, about, maybe, well—"

"Hey," Eddie squeezes Buck's hand. "You don't have to tell me anything until you're ready."

Buck grins, looking at Eddie lovingly. "It's about a house. Like a bigger one."

Eddie's eyes go wide with a smile. "For us?"

All Buck does is curtly nod.

"I've been thinking about that too, you know?"

"Really?" Buck's eyes are wide in surprise.

"Mhm. I've just thought of a few things that we must have." Buck sits there, waiting. So Eddie continues. "A bigger kitchen, an extra bedroom or two, and multiple bathrooms."

They both laugh.

"Just some basics, of course. Nothing crazy in detail. I was gonna wait until after the wedding or something to talk about it... I dunno."

"Yeah? Well, if it makes you feel better, I was holding it off too, Eds."

Eddie chuckles, pulling Buck's hand up to his lips and kissing the blonde's knuckles. "Tell me what you have on the list."

"Can I have my hand?"

"Ugh, fine. But give it right back."

"Promise. Just a second." Buck flips through the pages a finds one buried in the back, unclips it from the clipboard, then puts the clipboard in his top nightstand drawer.

He turns to face Eddie now. "Feel free to eliminate anything. It's just some things I've been thinking about for us and Chris." Buck blushes, handing Eddie the paper.

Eddie smiles, taking Buck's hand back in his, rubbing Buck's knuckles with his thumb, and the paper in the other.

"Okay, who do we have here?" Eddie looks down at the list, already loving everything about it. And it's not long either, just a few bullet points. Basically all of the ones Eddie thought of plus some others he can't believe he didn't think of.

The Buckley-Diaz Dream House:

-Close to Chris's school

-Relatively close to work

-Decent neighborhood

-Two stories?

-Bigger Kitchen - 100% must have

-Walk in closets - definite yes

-More bedrooms - at least three - four max

-Multiple bathrooms - at least two and a half

-Big backyard - for backyard bbq and pets?

-Pool - for Chris

-Jacuzzi - something we don't have to have but would like to - adult time ;)

- Garage - at least a one car - preferably two - for Jeep and Eds truck - sell other truck

Eddie looks up at Buck with a big grin. "You thought of everything, huh?"

Buck blushes the prettiest shade of pink.

"I love you, you know."

Buck nods, taking the paper back. "I know. And I love you too." Silence for a moment. "What do you think?"

"Well, to put it simply, I love it. Every bit, no notes."

Buck gapes at him. "Really?"

"Mhm. And you'd sell your truck?"

"Yeah. I really don't need it now that we're engaged and live here and you already have a big truck."

Eddie smiles.

"But really, no notes?"

Eddie shakes his head. "Like I said you thought of everything. Me and you, Chris, and pets. Which yes, definitely want some. No question mark needed." Buck looks at Eddie wide eyed. "I was thinking maybe a small and cuddly dog, then a bigger one that could be helpful to Chris when he walks without his crutches. So he has something to hold on to."

"Two dogs?"

"Maybe a cat too." Eddie's always wanted a cat.

"You're unreal." Buck breathes. "But, you'd really want that?"

"We've both always been big family guys. So why not start with a couple of pets?"

Start. That makes Buck giggle. "I like that. And obviously we'd have to bring Chris in on the decisions for what dogs we get."

"Obviously. The cat is alllll me."

Of course, Eddie thinks, getting ahead of himself, they'd have to put this house up for sale, and budget hard. It's not like they're broke. But they're not rich either. They get by, with a good bit to spare.

"I've also done some digging. Budget wise." They really are made for each other. "And we could get a pretty good price for this house since it's in excellent shape, which would help us a lot towards a new house. And, some of the things on the list are just a want. Not a need."

Eddie scoots over to Buck, plopping his ass right on Buck's lap. "As long as we get most of those things. And we can always add more later on. Like the hot tub."

"True," Buck agrees, wrapping an arm around Eddie's front, his other holds the list. "And if the backyard is big enough, the pool could be something we add later."

"See! Look at us. We're such a good team." Eddie states, kissing Buck's cheek.

Buck beams, looking at Eddie, they're faces are inches apart. "We are," He says softly, practically whispering, placing a sweet kiss to Eddie's lips. "I love you, Eds."

Eddie snickers. "I love you, too. Thank you for telling me. Even if it wasn't the kinky list or for the wedding." Eddie jokes, his cheeks pink.

Buck laughs, his warm breath blowing on Eddie's lips. "You're welcome. And the wedding list is almost done. It's just...I'm nervous, I guess." Buck shrugs.

Eddie's brows furrow. "About being married to me?" That's the only thing he can think of that Buck would be nervous about.

"What? Oh my God, no. It's just, I've never been married, you have and it wasn't you know, ideal. So I just want to make it perfect, Eds. You deserve that."

Eddie grins, holding Buck's face in his hands. "So do you, amor de mi vida."

Buck blushes bright red. He fucking loves it when Eddie calls him that or anything in Spanish.

"And there's no rush either, right?"

Buck shakes his head.

"I have an idea." Buck nods, letting Eddie to continue. "Why don't we find us a house first? Maybe before the wedding? I'm kind of invested in this now."

Buck chuckles. "Yeah, me too. And I like that. We can talk to Chris later."

"Deal." Eddie shuffles to where he's straddling Buck's lap. "What would you say to doing some stretching to do our favorite bendy position to celebrate?"

"Hell, yes." Buck slides to the edge of the bed, with Eddie still in his lap, picking him up. Eddie wraps his legs and arms around Buck tightly, out of instinct.

Buck brings them to the foot of their bed and sets Eddie down so they can stretch out. They've learned the exact amount of stretching they have to do to not pull anything with this position.

And they fucking love this position. They only get limited chances to do it. And today is one. They have a few hours before they have to pick up Chris from school.

So they can go long and slow.

+++++

They're in the shower, sore in the most perfect way. Eddie's washing Buck's hair.

"How's your leg? Did we stretch enough?" Eddie asks, rinsing out the shampoo out of Buck's golden curls.

Buck nods. "Yeah. My leg's good. We did good."

"Muy bien." Eddie kisses a spot behind Buck's ear then he spins Buck around, since he's done with Buck's hair. "I'm glad. I love doing that one. And I'm so glad we can do it without nearly pulling muscles."

Buck giggles. "Yeah me too. It's a fun one that I've never done before you."

Eddie perks up. "Really?"

"Mhm. Most of the really kinky things we do, are things I've never done before you. I was always too afraid to do it with anyone else. I didn't trust them like I do you."

Eddie smirks.

Buck rolls his eyes. "Don't let this go to your head now, babe."

"Too late," Eddie pulls Buck in for a kiss. "Hey, wanna edit the list then we can talk to Chris about it tonight?"

"Oh my God, yes."

They finish their shower, making out for a little while, before getting out.

Buck grabs the clipboard from the drawer, unclipping all of the other papers on it minus a blank sheet, and climbs onto the bed.

Eddie sits on his side, holding the list Buck made, back against the headboard.

Buck gets settled against the headboard, right next to Eddie.

He looks at Eddie excitedly. "I'm so happy right now," he snickers.

"Me too," Eddie looks up at Buck, with a big smile, flustered.

So they edit the list to the way they like it. There's a lot of laughter and fun bickering.

The Buckley- Diaz Dream House V2:

-Close to Chris's school

-Close to the firehouse

-A good neighborhood

-Two stories - maybe?

-Bigger kitchen

-Walk in closet(s)

-Many bedrooms - at least three

-At least two and a half bathrooms

-Big backyard for bbq's and possible pets

-Pool for Chris

-Hot tub (add-on later)

-Two car garage - one is acceptable

They're happy with this list. Very happy with it.

They're gonna talk to Chris about it when they pick him up here shortly.

So to fill up the time, they make out sweetly on the bed, continuing their celebration.

Making sure to not let it get heated.

+++++

All three of them are back at their house now.

Buck and Eddie are going to tell Chris after dinner, they decided on that on the drive to pick him up—they do everything together okay?

Buck made dinner, of course, Chris helped—he always does now while Eddie sets the table. They ate, talked, and laughed.

Chris stayed in his seat while Eddie took their dishes and washed them in the sink.

"So, buddy, your dad and I wanted to talk to you about something."

"What is it about?"

"Well," Buck looks up at Eddie who nods. So he looks back down at the fourteen-year-old. "Me and your dad got to talking today about moving."

"Moving?"

"Mhm," Buck nods. "Into a bigger house."

"Really? When?"

Buck chuckles. "We don't know when, buddy, we wanted to talk to you first, and see what you thought about it."

Eddie loads the dishes in the dishwasher, dries his hands off, then walks over to the table, sitting next to his fiancé.

"It sounds great!"

"Yeah?" Eddie asks.

"Mhm."

"Well, kiddo, we've got a list of some things that we're going to look for the new house."

"Can I see?" Chris perks up, smile wider.

"Of course, mijo." Eddie grabs it from their bedroom and hands it to Chris, sitting next to
Buck again.

Chris looks a the piece of paper very closely. Then he asks for a pen, which Buck hands to him.

Buck and Eddie look at each other nervously, then they see Chris making a few scribbles and notes, with an evil grin on his face.

In about thirty seconds, Chris is done, and looks back at his Dads, smiling, and slides the list over to them across the table.

The Buckley- Diaz Dream House V2:
Chris's Version:

-Close to Chris's school

-Close to the firehouse

-A good neighborhood

-Two stories - maybe? YES!

-Bigger kitchen

-Walk in closet(s)

-Many bedrooms - at least three

-At least two and a half bathrooms

-Big backyard for bbq's and possible pets

-Pool for Chris

-Hot tub (add-on later)

-Two car garage - one is acceptable

-gaming room with big TV - Chris only!

Buck and Eddie look at it and smile, then look up at Chris, then look at each other, laughing a little.

"So you're okay with us getting a bigger house?" Eddie asks his son.

Chris nods, a wide grin on his face, "Yes. And I want a dog."

Buck laughs. "What would you say to two dogs and a cat?"

Chris gasps. "Really?"

"Mhm," Buck and Eddie say and nod simultaneously.

"Cat was your dad's idea." Buck adds, goofily.

"Hey!"

Chris giggles. "Can we get a dog like today?"

"Not today, Superman, but we can get one soon. We'll have to do some research things. But soon. And you can help us figure out what kind of dogs we want."

"Yay!"

"But house is first, mijo."

"Fine. But make it quick." The teen sighs.

All three of them laugh.

"Deal." Both Buck and Eddie agree.

+++++

They watch a couple of movies and snack on some popcorn before Chris is pretty much asleep.

So Buck and Eddie stop the movie that they'll finish tomorrow.

Buck then asks Chris softly, "Wanna walk, buddy, or do you want me to carry you to bed?" Chris's crutches got put into his room before dinner was even made so they were out of the way.

"You." Is all the boy says, then Buck delicately lifts him into his arms.

Eddie stands, going over to them.

"It's okay," Buck mouths.

Eddie smiles. "Love you," he mouths back.

"Love you too," He winks at Eddie, mouthing those words to Eddie too.

"Night, mijo. See you tomorrow."

"Night Dad." He mumbles. "Love you."

"Love you too." He says back, then to Buck, "I'll go clean up, see you in a minute."

Buck nods, adjusting Chris in his arms. "Come on, let's get you to bed."

Chris hums onto Buck's shoulder, wrapping his arms around the blonde's neck. "I love you, Buck."

Buck chuckles, walking through Chris's doorway. "Love you too, Superman."

Buck is lying the teen down onto his bed, covering him up. "Need anything, kiddo?"

"Nope. G'night, Buck."

Buck chortles, then kisses the boy's curls. "Night, Chris."

Chris quickly relaxes and falls into sleep before Buck is even out of the room.

He quietly closes the door behind him, then hops into his and Eddie's bed, giddily grabbing his computer.

+++++

Eddie finishes cleaning up their mess, checks on Chris, who's passed out and tucked into bed nicely.

When he walks into his and Buck's bedroom, he closes the door behind him, then sees Buck smiling at whatever is on his computer screen.

"What're you doing over there, cariño?" He asks, as he sits onto the bed, scooting over to Buck.

"Houses."

"Already?"

"Just looking at prices and things with our list. After looking at what my truck would sell for. Which, uh, is a lot."

"Oh, well, that's good. But you don't have to sell it. It's a nice truck." Eddie lays on Buck's chest, pulling the covers over him too, getting them nice and snug.

"I know. But yours is better." He kisses Eddie's hair, closes his computer, sets it on his nightstand, settles back into the bed, pulling Eddie closer.

"Find any houses that looked appealing?"

"Eh." Buck shrugs. "I only looked for a couple of minutes. But the prices weren't insane. So that's something."

Eddie chuckles. "Yeah. Night, amor de mi vida."

"Night, Eds. Love you."

"Love you too."

They kiss for a few minutes before falling asleep in each other's arms.

That weekend many new kinks on the list get marked off and are definite for them to do again.

Many times.

+++++

It's been a month since that day and they've found some that have most of what they're looking for, except they're either too high in price, too far away, or don't have a key feature they need.

And they've started wedding planning. Not much of it. Just looking through their lists figuring out some basic things. They'll do it more in detail after they find a house and get settled in.

Also, during that time, they had to deal with the fucking Buckley parents. Luckily that was over quick. They haven't talked to Buck since he walked out that night. And Eddie's grateful for that. Because if they did, Eddie would be in jail for assault.

Buck and Eddie haven't brought any options to Chris yet because there haven't been any that are worth seeing if Chris likes it. And Chris asks them here and there if they've made any progress. Answer is always: Not yet, but our dream house is out there somewhere. We just haven't found it yet. Or something along those lines.

Eddie's losing some hope, but still hanging on.

Buck is relentless. He will find a house for him and his Diaz boys.

They're at work today, Eddie has just refilled his cup of coffee while Buck is on the sofa scrolling with determination on his phone on Homes.com.

"Okay, what's up with your fiancé, Eddie?" Hen asks with concern.

"He's been very...tense lately," Ravi adds.

Eddie swallows his sip of coffee. "We've, uh, been looking for a house. And we haven't found anything yet. Buck won't give up."

"Oh, wow." Hen softly gasps.

He nods, taking another drink. "Mhm. We talked to Chris about it before we started looking and well, he was thrilled with the idea. And he wants us to find one quick so we can get our two dogs and cat." Eddie takes a drink.

"What?" Hen asks, laughing a little.

"Yup. Me and Buck are big family men and well, since that one time with a dog failed last time, we're going to make sure that they're ours and no one can take them away. Plus, Buck is adorable with a dog. And well, I want a cat."

Hen rolls her eyes. "Of course the cat was your idea."

"Yup. I've always wanted a solid black cat. So I'm going to get one."

"Sounds nice, Eddie."

"Thank you Ravi." He sips more coffee.

Then Buck bolts up from the sofa. "Eddie, baby! You have to see this!" He sprints from the couch to Eddie in seconds, holding his phone tightly in his hand. Having to dodge Bobby. "Sorry, Bobby," He mumbles the apology.

Bobby chuckles. "It's okay, kid."

"Eddie, Eddie, Eddie." Buck repeats, standing right in front of him.

Eddie sets his cup down and looks up at his fiancé. "Yes, dear." He says calmly.

Hen and Ravi snicker.

Buck gives them the snake eye before returning his attention back to his fiancé.

"What is it, mi amor?" Eddie asks, softly, putting a hand on Buck's bicep.

Buck meets Eddie's eyes excitedly. "I found it."

Eddie's face scrunches up in confusion. "Found what, amor de mi vida?"

Buck melts at the term of endearment. Then says, "Our house. I found us the perfect house."

Eddie's face lights up. "Yeah?"

Buck nods happily. "Yeah. It was just put up for sale three hours ago."

"Is it in our price range?"

"Slightly over. But it's not much. I promise, babe."

"Okay. Okay. Don't leave me hanging. Show me, mi amor."

Buck smirks then stands next to Eddie, showing the brunette his screen.

Eddie's breath halters. "Dios mio. Home."

Buck stares at Eddie. "Yeah?"

"Yeah," Eddie meets Buck's eyes. "I mean, it is slightly over. But we'll manage. Together."

"Together," Buck agrees. "I love you, you know."

Eddie grins. "I love you too. Now, c'mon let's sit and you can show me more pictures."

"Okay!" Buck giddily runs back over to the sofa, kicking off Henderson who was losing horribly at Mario Kart.

Eddie grabs his mug and walks over to Buck. Shaking his head, smiling. "You're ridiculous."

Buck plops onto the couch and looks up at Eddie. "Yeah and you love me for it. Now, c'mere. I miss you."

Eddie sits practically in the blonde's lap. "I missed you too." He kisses Buck's birthmark. "Now show me what you found." His back stays firmly against Buck's massive chest.

"Okay."

Holy shit.

That is what they've been looking for a month! That's the house. Their dream house!

2 stories

2 car garage

4 bedrooms

3 1/2 bathrooms

newly renovated kitchen

25 minutes away from the firehouse

10 minutes away from Chris's school

It's perfect!

"Buck," Eddie breathes, not able to look away from his fiancés phone screen.

"What do you think, Eds? Think we could show Chris?" Buck asks, hopeful.

Eddie looks around the loft and sees that Bobby is walking downstairs, Henderson is with Ravi and Hen chatting around the kitchen island, and Chimney is no where in sight. So fuck it, Eddie kisses Buck.

Buck quietly gasps in surprise. But doesn't hesitate to kiss Eddie back.

Eddie makes the mistake adding tongue instead of pulling back. Not his fault that kissing his fiancé is addicting.

Buck moans and Eddie runs his hands through Buck's curls. He also twists around in Buck's lap, so he's straddling it now instead of sitting in it.

Buck wraps his arms around Eddie's waist, and Eddie wraps his around Buck's neck.

Eventually they have to pull back to breathe and when they do, they remember where they are.

Shit.

They then rest their foreheads together, catching their breath, laughing.

"So, Eds, is that a yes ooor?"

Eddie snorts, sitting up to look at Buck. "Yes. It's a yes. It's absolutely perfect, mi vida. We can show Chris tomorrow after he gets back from school."

Buck beams. "Yeah?"

Eddie nods, humming, "Mhm. Do you wanna show me more pictures? Is there a layout or something we could look at too?"

"Yeah, hang on." Buck grabs his phone that was thrown onto the couch when Eddie spun around in his lap.

Eddie gets up to move from his lap, but Buck doesn't let him. He wraps his arm tighter around Eddie, pulling him right back in.

"Uh, uh. You're staying right here." He kisses Eddie's nose.

Eddie blushes firetruck red. "Yeah, okay."

Buck shuffles down the couch a bit, where he leans back against the corner of it, Eddie still in his lap.

This position makes it easier for them to look at the pictures and remain as close as possible.

The house is light colored, it has a large front porch where Buck and Eddie both decide they'll hang a swing from. As soon as you walk through the door, you're welcomed to a big open area. On the right side is the living room, then the dining room, and then the newly renovated and massive kitchen. On the left is where the stairs are. Underneath the stairs is the half bath. Next to the bathroom is the laundry room. The utility room is actually a pretty good size, the previous owners had the litter boxes and other pet things in there. Which Buck and Eddie will too, when they get their two dogs and cat.

Past the stiars is the hallway leading to three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The first bedroom is decent in size with a small closet and bathroom. They both look at each other and both agree that it's Chris's new room. The bedroom itself is bigger than Chris's. The closet is also bigger. And the teen will have his own bathroom, with a toilet, sink, and shower.

It's perfect for him.

And next to that is two bedrooms of equal size with a bathroom in the middle, with a tub-shower, sink, and a toilet.

They smile at each other.

That's for our kids.

But they don't say it out loud because they haven't discussed it yet.

Then they look at the backyard that does have a pool and a decent sized backyard. Perfect for backyard get togethers with the 118.

"Definitely adding a hot tub for us later, babe." Buck tells Eddie, who strongly agrees.

And upstairs there's a massive living room space—Chris's gaming room they're all going to share. And then there's the master bedroom, with a massive bathroom, and walk in closet.

It really is their dream house. It's everything they've been looking for. With everything they wanted. And more. And only slightly above their budget.

They see a few more pictures then they reach the end of the collection.

They smile at each other.

"You found it. You did it. You found our dream home, cariño." Eddie looks at his fiancé seriously, with love in his eyes.

Buck smiles at his fiancé, eyes glassy.

"I can't wait to show Chris. Are there viewings available?"

Buck nods. "Yeah. There are."

"Good. After we talk to Chris, we'll book one for the three of us on our next day off after we pick him up. If he's okay with all of it."

"Perfect." Buck beams. "I love you so much."

"I love you too." They kiss chastely before Eddie pulls back and has to sadly hop off of Buck's lap. Because they're at work.

Eddie lies flat on the couch and makes grabby hands at Buck for him to join him.

Buck does without hesitation.

They lie there for about three minutes until the bell rings and they are forced to separate.

+++++

They show Chris the photos of the house after dinner the next night.

"Woah! Is this our house?" He asks.

Buck and Eddie smile.

"No, Superman. But it could be if we want it to be."

Chris's eyes go wide, excitedly. "Really?!?"

"Yeah, mijo. We can schedule a viewing where we can go take a tour and look around. If you want."

Chris nods. "Yeah, Dad. That sounds awesome."

"I'll book us one right now." Buck kisses Eddie's temple then plants one to Chris's hair before walking out of the room to make the call.

"I can't wait to live there. It looks so cool Dad."

Eddie chuckles, "Yeah it really does. Me, you, and Buck."

"And the two dogs and cat."

Eddie snorts. "Of course. Them too. How could I forget?"

"But you did Dad." Chris teases.

Both of them end up in a fit of giggles.

That's when Buck walks back in. "Oh no, were you two talking about me?"

Eddie snickers. "No, amor. We weren't. Promise. So, what they say?"

Buck grins. "Got us a viewing on Wednesday at 4pm." He says, proudly.

"Yay!" Chris exclaims.

Eddie jumps up from his seat and pulls Buck in a hug. After he kisses him for a moment.

Chris fake gags. "Gross, Dads. Do it when I'm not here."

Eddie laughs. "Yeah, yeah." He ruffles Chris's curls and the teen grumbles a complaint.

All the while, Buck is stuck staring at Chris, his eyes wide. "Chris—I—" He is rendered speechless.

"Amor?"

"Buck?"

Buck points at Chris. "Y-you called us Dads. So you called me—"

"My dad. I know. You are. Because I have two dads."

Buck's eyes tear up as he strides over to Chris and hugs him tight. "God, I love you, kiddo."

Chris giggles, hugging his Buck back. "I love you too, Buck." A few moments later, "Buck, I can't breathe."

Buck chuckles, pulling back. "Sorry, Superman."

Eddie walks over and places an assuring hand on Buck's lower back, placing a sweet kiss to Buck's birthmark.

"Can I go play video games now?"

"Yeah, mijo, go ahead."

"Bye Dads." Then he's gone, into his room playing video games with his friends.

Eddie faces Buck, with so much love in his eyes. "Hey, mi amor."

Buck meets Eddie's eyes after a moment. "Hey."

Eddie takes Buck's face into his hands. "You okay?"

Buck nods. "Yeah. I'm okay. Just—that—I—I know we always say we're a family."

"We are." Eddie interjects.

Buck smiles. "Yeah, I know. But when he called me his dad. When he said he had two dads. God—I—it—it was real."

Eddie grins. "It is real, baby. It's real."

A happy tear falls down Buck's cheek. Eddie uses his thumb to wipe it away.

"Chris is much of your kid as he is mine, okay?"

Buck smiles, nodding. Eddie has said this to him before. And it means the world to him to hear Eddie say that. Then for Chris to say it too...fuck it's everything.

"I love you guys so much."

"And we love you too. Now, wanna snuggle with me on the couch and watch a movie?"

"Heck, yeah."

Eddie pulls Buck in for a quick kiss and hug before they grab themselves some beer and candy, and walk into the living room, Buck lying on his favorite pillow—his fiancé. While Eddie cuddles with his favorite blanket—his fiancé.

Chris comes to join them later, and they all watch a movie together with some popcorn, candy, and soda before heading to bed.

Life's already amazing in this house, all of them can't wait for them to be in the new house.

Hopefully.

+++++

The viewing is today.

Buck and Eddie have gotten dressed, in appropriate clothes for this...they think.

They're on the way to Chris's school now. Buck is driving, of course. Eddie's his passenger princess. And they're holding hands on the center console, giddy with excitement.

Chris is too after they pick him up.

"You excited, Superman?" Buck asks, turning his head, and looking at Chris in the backseat.

Chris beams. "Yeah!"

They arrive at the house at 3:54pm. Perfect timing. Buck and Eddie walk hand-in-hand to the front door, Chris behind them.

All of them are smiling wide.

The homeowners are a sweet middle-aged couple, Carl and Anne Craig. And they have a herd of pets.

They instantly take a huge liking to Christoper, and Christopher does too. And of course they take a liking to Buck, but he doesn't let their cuteness distract him from the task at hand; the house.

The two men make good conversation with the couple throughout the tour, while Chris just hangs in the living room with the dogs and cats.

Once they reach the end of the viewing, Carl and Anne lead them back downstairs to the kitchen to discuss everything.

"So, what do you guys think?" Carl asks, kindly.

Buck and Eddie look at each other and smile, then look back at the couple.

"We love it."

"What my fiancé said," Eddie points to Buck, chuckling.

"Wonderful." Anne beams.

"I don't think we've ever had a house have an offer for a viewing so quickly, "Carl says, laughing a little.

He and his wife have bought and sold three—about to be four—throughout their twenty years of marriage.

"Well, me and my fiancé here have been looking for houses for a little over a month. I slowly stopped checking the websites as often. But Buck here," He playfully nudges the blonde's shoulder. "Wouldn't give up. And well, here we are." Eddie shrugs, smiling.

"Well, we're glad it worked out. You two and your son have been our favorite viewers we've ever had." Anne adds, with a little laugh.

Buck and Eddie smile at her.

"Do you two have any questions or anything?" Carl asks.

Eddie shakes his head.

"I have a few."

Eddie looks at Buck lovingly. "I'll go get Chris, mi amor. You ask away." He kisses Buck's cheek before walking to the living room where Chris still is with all of the pets. The three dogs and two cats.

"Having fun, mijo?"

Chris looks up at his dad and giggles. "Yeah."

"Good. Soooo, what do you think of the house?"

"It's so cool! I like it. What do you and Buck think?"

"We love it." Eddie squats onto the ground, sitting down to pet the pretty orange tabby, then suddenly the Craig's solid black cat leaps onto his lap—his dream cat, and it has ocean blue eyes just like his fiancé.

"Well, hello, there." Eddie greets, laughing. He next hears a soft jingling of a collar coming from the cat. Eddie looks at the tag. "Hello, Shadow." Eddie says to the cat, petting his head and giving him scratches.

Shadow closes his blue eyes and purrs, rubbing his head against Eddie's head.

That's when Buck and the Craig's walk into the living room.

"So, did you ask all your questions, cariño?" Eddie sweetly asks his fiancé, still petting Shadow, who still remains in his lap.

"Mhm." Buck smirks. "Sure did." He then looks to Chris. "What do you think of the place, kiddo?"

"It's cool!!"

"You didn't even look at it with us, Superman." Buck jokes.

Chris shrugs, chuckling. "It's still super cool."

"Why don't you show him around?" Anne suggests.

"We don't want to put you two out like that." Buck defends.

She shakes her head, grinning. "It's alright, dear. Go ahead. Show your son around."

Buck smiles at her. "Thank you." He looks down at the teen again. "What do you say, buddy?"

"Yeah!" Chris exclaims, smiling, standing up.

Buck walks over to Chris, to help him up, then he takes the teen on a quick tour of the house. Showing the kid the bedroom that would become his if they get the house. (Chris said that he loves the bedroom and can't wait to live here.)

"Shadow seems to have taken a liking to you, Eddie." Carl says with a grin, sitting down on his sofa, the dogs jumping up on the couch to greet him.

"Seems so. He just leaped into my lap." Eddie chuckles. "And has stayed there."

"Shadow is never like that with anyone. Not even us." Anne adds, taking a seat on a recliner, the orange tabby jumping into her lap.

"Really?"

"Yeah. He's never social. He just keeps to himself."

"Huh. I never would've guessed." Shadow rubs his head against Eddie's torso, purring as the man gives him scratches.

Chris and Buck then emerge from the hallway, smiling and laughing.

"What's upstairs?" The fourteen-year-old asks.

"The big bedroom. Aaand, the gaming room." Chris gasps excitedly. Buck smirks at the boy. "We all have to share it though, buddy."

He rolls his eyes and sighs. "Fine. Can I see it?"

"Course! Want a ride up? Unless you think you're too old for it."

Chris smiles. "I'm not too old for that, Buck."

Buck holds his hands up to surrender. "Yessir. Alright, c'mere."

Chris sets his crutches against the stair railing, Buck turns around and lifts the boy onto his back. For a piggyback ride.

Chris and Buck are giggling the whole way up.

Eddie smiles and stares in that direction.

"You two have such an adorable son."

Eddie turns his gaze over to her, smiles wider, and tells her, "Thank you." Without any hesitation. Because Chris is their son and it's about to be official.

"I hope we get to live here, Buck." Chris says, sitting on the Craig's couch.

"Me too, Superman." He kisses the boy's curls that he's been showing Chris how to style best from his experience with his own hair. "Ready to head back down?"

Chris nods.

Buck carries Christopher downstairs on his back.

Eddie stands, the cat in his arms. "Hey!" He smiles at his boys. "What do you think, mijo?"

"I love it!" The boy smiles at his dad as he slides off of Buck's back, then Buck brings him his crutches.

"Glad you like it."

"Who's your new friend, Eds?" Buck asks, nodding to the feline in his fiancés arms.

Eddie looks down at the cat he's holding. "Shadow is his name."

"He's cute," Buck says and Eddie and Chris have to agree. The three boys give Shadow some loving.

Eddie turns back to the Craig's. "We'll get out of your hair, and I'll return you your cat." He chuckles, placing Shadow delicately onto the ground. "Thank you for everything." Eddie walks over to shake their hands. Buck does the same moments later.

"It was wonderful to meet you three," Carl says.

"We'll let you boys know by next week about everything."

Buck, Eddie, and Chris smile at them.

They go out to eat next, to sort of celebrate. Then they watch a movie together before heading to bed. Buck and Eddie snuggling together all night.

+++++

It's been a week today since the viewing.

Eddie is antsy for an answer but Buck is losing it.

When they were off that weekend, it was easy to distract each other. Spend time with Chris, mind-blowing sex at night (bringing out the kinky list on Sunday when Chris was with the Wilsons). Monday they worked a shift together, so they stayed busy, there were calls all shift. (Buck, Hen, and Chim think someone said the q-word, causing the day to be so damn busy.)

Tuesday after they dropped off Chris at school, they whipped out the kinky list and marked off a couple more things—again.

And yeah, they're doing all of that again.

Buck was really surprised Eddie liked all of it more than he did. It was hella kinky shit.

All of that reminded Buck that Eddie is as much of a freak as he is. So he added even more kinky things to the list. Each thing kinkier than the last.

Eddie said he couldn't wait to try them out.

But today's shift, Wednesday, it's a very q-shift...barely been any calls. And Buck is getting really fidgety.

Buck and Eddie walk hand-in-hand upstairs, then Eddie is hit with an idea when he sees Bobby making lunch.

"Hey, Bobby! Need an extra hand?"

Bobby flashes them a smile and nods. "Sure. Four hands are always better than two."

"Great," Eddie looks at Buck. "Buck. Go help Cap."

Buck gapes at him.

"Eddie?" Hen asks, shocked and bewildered by what is currently happening.

Eddie turns to her. "It's been a week today since the house viewing and he won't stop looking at his phone. He needs something to do with his hands so he doesn't keep checking his phone."

"Ah, I see." She understands completely.

"And what I want him to use his hands on, he can't do while we're at work." Eddie adds, smugly.

Hen gags, walking over to the sofa. "Freaks," She mutters.

Eddie laughs and Buck blushes. "Go, help Bobby, cariño. It'll keep you occupied. I'll let you know if they send us anything, okay? Which you know is not very likely."

Buck nods, "I know." And then he takes a few steps towards the kitchen before Eddie stops him.

"Phone, amor." Eddie holds his hand out.

Buck sighs pulling it out of his pocket and handing it to his fiancé.

"Love you, Eds. Thanks."

"Anytime." He kisses Buck's cheek, sticks the phone in his back pocket, then goes over to the sofa to join Hen and Ravi. They're playing Mario Kart.

Ravi's winning. Barely.

Hen ultimately wins in the end and Eddie plays her, also losing the game.

Eventually they put the game away because Ravi and Eddie are sick of losing, then his butt vibrates. He makes a face.

"Eddie, you okay?" Hen asks.

Eddie nods. "Yeah, my ass just vibrated."

"Buck's phone in is your back pocket." Ravi inputs.

Eddie chuckles. "Oh, right," He remembers now. "Thanks, Rav."

Eddie pulls the phone out of his pocket and sees there's an unread message on there.

Eddie opens the message with Buck's passcode. (Yes, they know each other's passcodes. Have for years. They share everything.)

The message is from Anne.

Eddie's breath halters.

Anne Craig: |1 minute ago|: Hey, Buck! We hope you, your fiancé, and your son are doing well. I wanted to let you know that all of the viewings are over and the house is yours if you want it. Get back to us as soon as you can. I know you two are firefighters and can be really busy. Just let us know as soon as you can! ❤️ - All our love, Anne and Carl Craig.

Oh my God!

They got the house!!

"Dios mio," Eddie whispers, breathlessly.

Hen and Ravi look over at him concerned. "You okay, Eddie?" She asks.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm good." He stutters barely even looking at them, his eyes locked on the phone screen.

Eddie feels like he's having an out of body experience as he stands and walks over to the kitchen.

"Buck," he calls softly. No answer.

"Buck," he calls again, slightly louder. Still no answer.

"Buck." Eddie calls, in his normal voice, getting Buck's attention now.

Buck walks over to his fiancé, his brows furrowed. "Eddie, what's wrong?"

Eddie looks up at Buck and says with a smile, "We got it."

Buck is even more confused. "You'll have to be more specific there, Eddie, baby."

Eddie chuckles and blushes. "We got the house, amor de mi vida. The house is ours!"

Buck's jaw drops. "Wait, really?!?"

Eddie nods. "Yeah, Anne just texted."

"Oh my God, Eds!" Buck's adorable dimples are now in full display as he pulls his fiancé into a tight embrace.

Eddie doesn't hesitate to hug him back. "You did it, Buck. You got us our dream house." He whispers lovingly into Buck's ear.

Buck's eyes fill with happy tears.

They pull back from the hug then close the gap between their lips.

Eddie has his arms around Buck's neck, Buck's phone still in his hand. Buck has his arms around Eddie's lower back, forcing Eddie to be sort of dipped as they make out heatedly—forgetting where they are because they're so fucking happy right now.

There may or may not be some muffled moans coming from both men. (No one can hear it except for each other. Thank God.)

"No PDA at work, you two." Bobby reminds them, rather loudly.

Buck and Eddie pull back quickly, releasing each other, standing up straight, looking at each other, their eyes wide.

"Sorry, Cap." Buck apologizes weakly.

"It's okay, kid." Bobby smiles pulling the fresh food out of the oven, setting it down on the island.

Hen, Ravi, and now Chim are standing around them, knowing something is up between those two.

Hen puts her hands on her hips. "Alright, you two, what was that for?" They may be insane about each other, but when they're at work, they know to keep it down. (At least where everyone can see them.) Hen gags at that thought.

Buck and Eddie look at the three of them bashfully.

"Come on, spill." Chimney demands.

Buck and Eddie glance at each other and nod. Then look back at their team.

"The house is ours." Eddie tells everyone. "If we want it."

"Which we do, obviously." Buck adds, with a priceless smile.

"Congratulations, you two," Bobby says, as he sets the fresh pan of lasagna on the table. "Let's eat and celebrate!"

Buck and Eddie smile. "Thanks, Cap." They say simultaneously.

"God, you two are disgustingly in love." Ravi remarks, taking a seat.

Everyone chuckles and can't help but agree.

"Maybe we are, but, who cares?" Eddie shrugs, eating a bite of Bobby's lasagna.

Buck smiles at him. "Our motto."

"Yup." Eddie winks.

Hen, Chim, and Ravi gag. Bobby chuckles.

Meanwhile, Buck and Eddie continue to eye-fuck each other lovingly.

Yeah, they are disgustingly in love. But they don't give a fuck. Never have, never will.

+++++

Buck decides he's ready to hit the bunks. Eddie is too.

Half of the team is asleep in the bunk room and the other half is hanging around the loft.

Buck gets nice and snug in the bunk the back corner that others know as his, and the adjacent one as Eddie's.

Buck refuses to fall asleep until Eddie is in his bunk so they can talk for a bit before falling asleep.

Buck has his eyes closed but is nowhere near close to falling asleep. Suddenly, there's a warm, familiar weight on him, getting snuggled into the bunk on top of him.

Buck opens his eyes. "Eds, what're you doing?" He whispers.

Eddie gets his legs under the covers, his head is placed on Buck's chest, his arms wrapped around the man, and hums in delight.

"What do you mean?" He mumbles. "I'm just lying with my fiancé." He sighs, contently.

Buck silently giggles, tightly wrapping his arms around Eddie, and planting a sweet kiss on Eddie's brown hair.

"You're ridiculous, babe."

"Mhm. But you love me anyway."

"Damn right, I do." Buck smiles, feeling safe and ready to fall asleep. "Wanna tell Chris tomorrow once we pick him up?"

"He's gonna be so excited. I can't wait."

"Hmm. Me too, Eds."

Eddie scoots up a little, his head finding home in the crook of Buck's neck. "Thanks for never giving up."

"What do you mean?"

"On the house hunt, I was losing hope, but you never stopped looking. You never gave up." Eddie  presses his lips to Buck's neck softly. "I love you so much, Evan Buckley."

Buck melts under the praise. "I love you too. The both of you. That's why I never gave up."

Eddie hums. "You're one of the best things that has ever happened to me, amor de mi vida."

"So are you Eds. You and Chris are my world."

Eddie kisses Buck's lips. Buck deserved it for that.

"I love you so much, Evan," Eddie whispers into Buck's lips.

"I love you too, Eddie. So, so much." Buck whispers back.

They kiss for just a little bit longer before falling asleep in each other's arms.

+++++

The shift is finally over.

That was one of the longest q-shifts the 118 has had in a long time.

Buck collapses onto their couch. "Jesus. I'm so glad we're home now."

Eddie plops down next to him. "Yeah," Eddie sighs. "That was one of the longest shifts ever. But, hey, something good came out of it."

Buck looks at Eddie and smiles. "Yeah, we got a house out of it."

"Dreamhouse." Eddie giggles. "Oh, what did you text Anne yesterday?"

"I told her that we definitely want the house. But we haven't broken the news to Chris yet. She understood and said to get back to her once we do."

"Well, she'll get her answer today." Eddie turns, facing Buck. "I can't wait to tell Chris."

"Me neither." Buck beams.

Eddie then remembers where they are, that they're home now and not at the firehouse, so he can kiss or do whatever he wants to Buck.

Eddie moves to straddle Buck's lap.

"Hi." Eddie greets him once he gets situated.

"Hi," Buck replies, taking Eddie's hips into his hands, pulling Eddie closer, having their clothes dicks touch. "Mmm. That feels good."

Eddie giggles, moving his face closer to Buck's. "Would you like to take this party to the bedroom?" Eddie rubs his nose to his fiancés.

"Hell yes. Can I carry you?"

"Since when have I complained when you carry me, babe?"

Buck thinks out loud for a moment. "Uuuuh, never?"

"Exactly." Eddie grins. "Carry me."

"Don't have to tell me twice." Buck slides his hands down to Eddie's ass, then lifts the man.

Eddie yelps excitedly, wrapping his arms around Buck's neck. "Yeah, never complaining about this. Never have, never will."

They spend hours in bed, making love to each other, take a long hot shower, then go pick up their son from school to break the news to him.

+++++

Time to break the happy news to Christopher.

They're practically bouncing with excitement.

Chris clocked their odd behavior immediately, but they refuse to tell him anything until they get to the restaurant.

Chris is fed up with his weird dads. He would like to know what is happening. So...

" Daaaaaaads ."

"Yes, Christopher?" They say at the same time.

"Why are you acting weird? We are at the restaurant now, sitting at a table."

"Okay, okay, mijo. We'll tell you."

"You ready, buddy?"

"Yeeeees." Chris groans.

Buck and Eddie count down in their heads.

"We got the house." Eddie tells his son, simply.

Chris gasps. "Really?!?!" Chris's smile is priceless.

"We sure did, Superman." Buck chuckles, holding Eddie's hand in his.

"When can we move in?" The teen asks curiously.

"We don't know yet. Shouldn't be too long. Maybe a month or so...we're not sure mijo."

"I hope it's soon."

"So do we, kiddo. So, what do you say we eat a nice, big meal and celebrate?"

"Yeah!" Chris exclaims.

"Oh, yeah." Eddie agrees.

God, Buck loves his Diaz boys.

He texts Anne once they're home, and lets her know that yes, they want the house.

They schedule a meeting with the Craig's and Buck and Eddie to discuss things further.

Fuck, they're so excited.

+++++

Today Buck and Eddie are off work to meet with the Craig's.

They're practically bouncing with anticipation.

Okay, so the meeting goes great. They work through everything.

They'll be moving into the house in 30 days. Which gives them time to put their house up for sale. Buck also has his truck advertised. And it's getting a lot of hits.

The other details they have to worry about they'll take on, together.

"Alright. So, we're all set!" Anne says.

Buck and Eddie smile.

"Wait, one more thing, hun," Carl tells her.

"Oh, right. Of course!" She smiles at the two men. "We have a surprise for you."

Buck and Eddie look at each other bewildered. Then glance at her, still confused.

Carl comes walking in with Shadow and Anne pulls a piece of paper out of a kitchen drawer.

"Shadow seemed to really bond with all three of you, especially you, Eddie. So, we're giving you the opportunity to adopt him if you want him."

Buck and Eddie gasp.

"I've always wanted a black cat. But with the moving..."

"Don't worry. Well keep him with us until you two get settled into the house so you don't have to stress. And you do not have to answer now just..."

"Yes." Buck interrupts.

Everyone turns to him, shocked. "Yes, we'd love to own Shadow and give him a loving home."

"But—" Eddie stammers.

Anne smiles, not letting him finish. "Wonderful. We love him, but he's never acted that way with us like he did you three instantly."

"And we've had him since he was a kitten."

"How old is he?" Buck asks out of curiosity.

"Three."

Shadow meows, his blue eyes locked on Eddie.

Everyone looks at the feline. He reaches a paw out. Almost like he's waving to Eddie.

Carl sets Shadow down onto the kitchen island since he started squirming.

Shadow struts right over to Eddie.

"Hey, kitty." Eddie smiles, extending his hands to pet the cat's head.

Shadow shoves his head into Eddie's hand, purring.

"Yeah, would love to adopt him," Buck breathes out. Seeing how happy not only the cat is, but Eddie too.

It's a beautiful sight.

Carl slides the adoption papers over to Buck and Eddie, handing them a pen too.

"We'll keep an eye on him during the move. And you're always welcome to come over and say hey to him. And I know your son would love to see the dogs again. They miss him." Anne tells them.

Buck and Eddie chuckle, petting Shadow, and signing the papers.

"We definitely will." Buck tells them with a smile.

They chat for a little while longer, pet Shadow , drink a little bit of coffee, then Buck and Eddie head back home.

With more news that they originally were going to tell him because they apparently have a cat now.

This is going to be an interesting conversation...

+++++

"So, we have the house and a cat now?" Chris asks, shocked and insanely happy.

"Yup. Shadow is ours now."

"Where is he?" The teen asks.

"Anne and Carl are going to watch over him until we move in next month. But we are allowed to stop by anytime to see the other pets too. They said the dogs miss you."

Chris smiles. And it's one of Buck and Eddie's favorite smiles to see—excluding the ones from each other. "Can we go soon?"

"Sure, mijo. How about this weekend?"

Chris nods.

"Perfect. We'll make sure to ask them and see if it's okay." Buck inputs.

"I can't wait." Chris adds.

Buck and Eddie have to agree.

They see the Craig's, doggos, and Shadow on Saturday.

It was a good time. Buck made pie and Anne made a delicious casserole that Buck asked the recipe for.
