Chapter Text

“Do you ever think we annoy Commander Cody that much?” Waxer asked, and Boil glanced at him, looking away from the chaos unfolding before them for only a brief moment.

“It’s possible.” Boil allowed, and Crys scoffed. Most of Ghost was arranged around the edges of the training room that had been given over to Torrent, watching Captain Rex try to stare his troops into submission. They were still giggling, one of the Captain’s ARCs, Fives if his paint was anything to go by, had just tripped him and it had somehow managed to halt the whole exercise.

“We definitely do.” Cry said. “We’re just too good to have something like this happen. And Cody would never ream us out in public like this.”

“Cody wouldn’t let getting tripped stop a whole exercise.” Longshot mused. “I wonder how Rexy is doing. Because even that doesn’t seem like him.”

“The whole of Ghost is here watching him.” Kenobi said, where he was parked behind the four of them, trying to give off the illusion that he wasn’t there at all. “And some of those Torrent troopers have only recently gotten their paint.”

“What’s the scuttlebutt?” Waxer asked. They had gotten very good at talking to their General without turning to look at him, used to him hiding among troopers for a little peace when the 501st, and thus General Skywalker, was around. And equally used, at this point in the war, to him just spending time with them for the sake of it. Off of the battlefield, the General had become Kenobi, had become one of them.

“Anakin is trying to bulk Torrent out. Unlike Ghost, they weren’t formed for stealth, and so he wants a larger force. So far, it does not seem to be going well, and I am attempting to suggest he makes different decisions.”

“Torrent is a good size anyways though?” Boil said. They had started up again, an obstacle course that Ghost had run so many times that they could do it in their sleep. Cody and Kenobi were conspiring to make them more difficult but so far the lack of resources from Triple-0 meant that they had mostly been throwing things at them.

Which was good fun, but didn’t make the course itself different.

“I am aware.” Kenobi said dryly.

“We should throw shit at them.” Longshot said. “Look at that nonsense.” The non-Fives ARC, Echo maybe, had just shoved Fives off of one of the walls, and while he had just laughed and pulled himself back up again, and Boil didn’t think that something like that would happen in the field, there was still a certain level of disregard that Boil did not like.

“Rex is giving them a chance to familiarize themselves with the course before they actually run it this time.” Kenobi said, and once he had said it, Boil did remember him saying that. “So we’ll give them the chance to take it seriously on their second run before we start throwing things.”

“Sounds good.” Longshot said, and there was a flurry of nods in agreement.
