Summary
Helen looked to her right, meeting her expression in the mirror. It was dark, only a few torches lighting the room but she could see herself clearly. Rose golden locks, running down her back. Plush and soft lips, with a well defined cupid’s bow (what an irony). Her face was still youthful, time had not yet touched her skin. Light blue eyes, big and surrounded with dark lashes. A beauty of all of Greece, the most desired woman, the face that made men go to war. Now with bags under her eyes, dead look in them. Covered in blood of her so-called husband, that she was passed on to once her previous owner was buried deep in the ground.
In that moment, she still looked beautiful. Oh how she wanted to cut her own face, scar it. Or maybe peel her skin off, sell it for a few coins and pass that curse onto someone else. She was beautiful even when she cried out in pain, in agony, when she begged them to stop or just laid down all compliant. And she looked beautiful right now, all red.
Then, the screaming started.
Or: Helen after the Trojan war, told in vignettes of her life after the city had fallen.
