Chapter Text
"Ughh" The alarm clock was beeping, birds singing outside of the window and sunlight peeking through the half open curtains, hitting a boy's orange hair, and lighting it up. Akito groaned and turned around, now facing the alarm clock. It later got slammed, a little too hard by a grumpy ginger. Akito forced himself to get up. He stood up, and then fell back to his bed, resting a little bit until he got enough iron to rise up again, without seeing stars. He walked out of the room and started to do his morning routine.

He unlocked the door and walked into the house, sweating. He had been outside jogging to keep his stamina. It's good to have stamina so you can run...if you encounter a vampire at least. That's what they all say. They all say "run" when you see a vampire, however Akito knows this doesn't help. You can't run away from a vampire. Killing or becoming one is your only option. Akito sighed and took off his shoes. He then went to take a shower.

The ginger was now eating breakfast, alone. He had a piece of bread in his hand, while eating he was drowning in his thoughts. The house was empty. Technically he had the whole house to himself, due to his parents being away. They were people who collected information about vampires. They would later send it to special scientists so they would try to find a cure to the vampires, so they could turn human again. Akito had little faith in them. Akito choked on the bread he was eating. He coughed and cursed himself. Akito continued his breakfast and then was getting ready for school.

"GOOD MORNING MY FELLOW COMRADE!" Akito groaned and with a frown he turned around, facing a blonde boy who had his frown upside down. "LOVELY DAY ISN'T IT?" He exclaimed and ran to Akito's side. Akito couldn't stand this guy. Not only was he too loud, but also too hyper for some reason.
"Mornin' Tsukasa... " Akito grumbled and glared down at the shorter one, "Where's Mizuki?" Right when he said that he felt two arms getting slung around his shoulders. He got some pink locks into the side of his face.
"Here I am~" a teasinly voice called out. Akito's frown fell lower and he looked to his other side, giving the person an annoyed look. " I didn't know lil bro missed me...How cute~" Mizuki smiled, flashing her white teeth. The ginger was never gonna ask ever again where his friends were. He didn't even know how he ended up with these clueless people in fact, yet he felt comfortable being with them both for some reason. The thought made him smile a little.
"Oh wow! Tsukasa-senpai, Akito's smiling!" The pink hair exclaimed, looking at the taller boy with sparkles in her eyes.
"Is that so?" The shorter blonde said and started to come closer to catch a glimpse of the gingers face. Akito dropped his smile faster than they could blink.
"Shut up, I didn't, Mizuki's lying" Akito said, while looking at Tsukasa, then turned his attention to the corridor in front of them. Mizuki and Tsukasa shared a look and started grinning. "What are you two grinning abou-"
Suddenly the school bell rang. They all looked at each other and then started to sprint toward their own respective classrooms.

Akito struggled to keep his attention on the teacher. He was a vampire hunter, meaning he went to a school specialized in vampires. This class was about learning about how vampires work. Their bodies, how they work and why they drink blood, however he couldn't give a single crap about it. He looked at the clock. It was still morning but he was looking forward to the night. Then he would get missions, killing missions. He would hunt down vampires, killing them to keep the people safe. He would kill them with those two goofballs, laughing and learn some new moves from Tsukasa. He was more skilled than himself, due to being a year higher than him. Mizuki would always tell some crappy dad jokes to lighten up the atmosphere. It was dark after all and a little spooky, knowing a vampire could come any moment and take your life. For Akito it felt more intense. The adrenaline he would get from dodging the vampires attempts of stabbing him was so unimaginable addicting. And when he finally managed to catch up to them, stabbing his spear through the hand of the creature, holding them in place, he would use a stake and stab it through its heart. The sound of it hissing and screaming in pain was like music to his ears. They all deserved it, after he lost her...
"Akito, can you answer this question please?"
The sudden voice of his teacher invaded his thoughts, making him snap out of them. He and the teacher held a very long eye contact after that while the class was snickering. Akito wanted to disappear so bad at that moment.

The final bell finally rang, a sound for the students to know that they were dismissed for the day. Akito felt like big heavy chains being pulled off from his hands. Finally! He was released from this place. He quickly threw some school assignments into his bag and then started to speed walk out of the classroom, through the corridor, down the stairs, out on the schoolyard and through the school gates-
Wait no. There was someone standing there, keeping him from going through the gates. The ginger shot an annoyed glare at the person, but softened up a little (SUPER LITTLE) a bit as soon as he saw who the person was. The person happened to be Mizuki. She ran towards him, waving with both of her arms and screaming "HEY LIL BRO!" . Akito sighed and he stared at the ground. It was kinda embarrassing when she did that. It kinda reminded him of a hyper mom who was gonna take a picture of her kid who was ending third grade. He felt an arm slung around his shoulder.
"Hey, don't touch me!", he groaned and glared at the cotton candy pink hair girl, who was only snickering in response.
"Soften up a little bit, will you?", she said and giggled but slowly lifted her arms off his shoulders. She did respect his private bubble, which he appreciated. Though she would burst into it sometimes and he really disliked that. He would always scold her but for some reason she couldn't get that into her head. The words flew out of her ear as soon as it entered her head. The duo stood there waiting for a certain blonde boy with a little pink on the tips of his hair.
After a lively walk home containing a lot of teasing from Mizuki and an unhealthy amount of yelling and laughing from Tsukasa, Akito was home. He unlocked the front door, taking a deep breath. He always missed the smell of home for some reason. He closed the door and locked it. He then slipped off his shoes.
"I'm hom-"
He cut himself off. It was an old habit to always say that whenever he was home because a certain someone would always be in her room, sleeping or drawing. His mood dropped. He missed her so much it was unbearable. Even though she would drag him around, ask him multiple times to buy stuff or argue with him, he really missed her. Ever since that vampire took her he'd blame himself for being to weak to protect her. He just stood there, letting the scene unfold in front of him. Akito felt his eyes water but quickly wiped them away. He couldn't cry! He was supposed to prepare for the vampire mission after all. He didn't want his eyes to look swollen.
Akito dragged his steps towards his room, staring down at his phone. He was gonna rest a little bit, then get ready for the adventure that was waiting for him when the sun was down. Even though the missions were kinda late at night he didn't really mind. Now he was outside of his door, putting the hand on the handle when he slowly turned around. There was a closed door there. Akito stared at the door. The pain in his heart ached again due to him being reminded of her. He sighed and entered his room. He changed into comfortable clothes and slowly entered his bed. He wrapped himself in the duvet and soon his eye lids were closed.

Akito was in the assembly house. The sun was setting and soon it would be dark. The quick nap boosted his mood, he wasn't feeling sad nor grumpy like he did before. The ginger was sitting in a comfortable armchair while waiting for those two. He sighed and fiddled with his phone, scrolling through some boring posts on an app. The missions were starting soon and he was ready to kick some ass, but of course Mizuki and Tsukasa took their time for some reason.
Suddenly he heard some footsteps. He looked up from his phone and saw the lively duo, chatting about something. Next to Tsukasa was a short girl. She had short sandblonde hair tied into two pigtails that were trailing on her shoulder. Hazel brown eyes and a shy smile painted on her face. On her head was a black cap. Akito got up from the armchair and walked towards them.
"Yo" He said as he approached them, "Tsukasa, Mizuki, Kohane."
The trio looked at the ginger and greeted him. The greeting he got was "Hey lil bro!" by Mizuki, "BEAUTIFUL NIGHT ISN'T IT AKITO?" By Tsukasa and "H-hello Shinonome-kun" by Kohane. Akito joined them and they started to walk towards the meeting room.

"Hello, everyone" the leader said, as the hunters were flooding into the room. "Have a seat please!"
Their leader was a young man, somewhere in his early 20's. His hair was in a bright shade of blue and he had a uniform similar to the one Akito was wearing. Though to show his higher rank he had a long coat resting on his shoulders, as well another type of clothing style. He also had a black hat sitting on top of his head. That made him look scary but his personality was bright and warm. He would always smile when the hunters came into the room but this time he looked serious. The ginger was a little curious, so he sat down to his chosen place.
The tables were formed to an "U" and the leader would always stand in front of the tables, pointing on some board there. That was how they got information and missions. Akito was sitting at the table to the left, next to a green haired girl and another a blue haired girl. The sound of chattering and chairs scraping in the floor was invading the quietness off the room, until Kaito cleared his throat. Everyone went quiet very fast. Kaito gave them a happy look, while still not smiling.
"Hello everyone!" He started, "Welcome to this meeting today, I know you all are looking forward to some missions being handed out to you." He looked up and inspected them, as if he was making sure they all were focused on him before he continued. "However, that's not the case for this night."
Mumbles started to fill the room. Why wouldn't they get missions? Was there something wrong? Did something happen? Kaito cleared his throat again, which caused the quietness to take over the sounds.
"We've found the locations of the vampires." He continued. Akito's attention started to come. The ginger stared at him. Found the vampires location? Heck yea! Now he could kill them and avenge his sister. He felt his heart beat faster, he had hope. He would slay all of those creatures. The leader turned on a projecter and a map of the forest appeared on the board. Kaito kindly stepped out of the view and with a long stick he pointed on the map.
"Here are we" he said, pointing at a building, then moving to the end of the map, "and here is where we've located the vampires."
Akito was staring daggers into the map, concentrating. He had never did that, in fact he would always listen with one ear or close his eye lids once in a while, but this time was different. He then continued to pay attention to what Kaito was saying for the rest of the meeting. Kaito was explaining that they found the location but not exactly where they were. Underground, on land or in water, they didn't know yet but they would figure it out as soon as possible. Kaito was also planning to attack the place. They were enough hunters, however he believed they needed more training, skills and experience since they were gonna take on a lot of vampires. The hunters discussed it with the leader. Hours went by and finally they all agreed to talk about it for the next meeting.
The ginger didn't complain about how long the meeting was for, he gained a lot of information. He walked out of the meeting room, waiting for Tsukasa, Mizuki or Kohane. He was just gonna say good night or bye before leaving the building. First Tsukasa came through the doors.
"Bye Tsukasa. Have a good night" He mumbled. Tsukasa looked at him and smiled brightly.
"Good night to you Akito! I hope you get a good sleep!" he then replied and rushed off. Right after that Kohane exited the meeting room.
"Bye Kohane, see you soon again" The ginger said, in a soft tone so he wouldn't scare her that much. The smaller girl looked up at him and gave him a nervous smile.
"You too, Shinonome-kun!"
And then but not least the cheery pink hair walked through the doors. Before he could start his scentance he was cut off by her. "BYE LIL BRO, I GOTTA RUSH!" she yelled and then ran away like she was racing against a cheetah. Akito sighed and mumbled a "bye to you too" that was out of range to Mizuki's ears. He then exited the building and started his journey to his home.

The street was dark and the wind was constantly snatching his hair and jacket. The street was shining, it had rained before. Small puddles were scattered a little everywhere. The ginger hugged his jacket tighter to him. There was some streetlight but they were flickering. Sometimes they would light out for five seconds before turning on again, but the boy didn't mind. If a vampire appeared he would kill it.
Every hunter got a weapon. A spear for far combat, bow and arrow for shooting them down and a knife for close combat. The weapons weren't just normal weapons, they were made by special smiths and craft men. The weapons were enchanted with a special magic. Vampires could heal themselves as soon as they got an injury. A human wound could take up to two days to heal or more, while a vampire took two minutes at most. With the magic in the weapons it slowed the vampires healing ability. It was quite useful. If you struck the weapon through the heart, they would die instantly. Stakes worked too.
Akito was almost at his house, when suddenly the streetlight went out. Five seconds went by. Akito was standing still. He swore that he could hear something. Slowly he put his hand on his knife, hiding in his jacket pocket from the inside. He did not pull out the knife however. Suddenly the lights went on. There was no one there. Akito let down his guard until someone stumbled out from the dark alley.
The person was under the streetlight. They had short split hair. One side was dark blue while the other one was light blue. They were wearing a long cape, it seemed to not hold so much warmth. The person was also tall, maybe two centimeters taller than himself, Akito thought. The ginger walked towards the stranger. Maybe they needed help. Vampires could be lurking around and he didn't want another civilian to get killed.
"Hey it's dark! You should go hom-"
Suddenly the light went out again. Akito who had his eyes on the stranger, stopped in his steps. The stranger lifted their gaze and laid it on him. Akito's heart dropped. The eyes sent him a shiver down his spine. His body froze as his eyes were stuck on the stranger. They held eye contact, staring into the other one's eyes. The stranger's eyes met olive green eyes, the ginger's eyes met...
Red eyes, glowing in the dark.
