Chapter 1: The night that God abandoned me

Chapter Text

Everyone was worried about Nilon.

He refuses to go out of his room if the blinds in the whole house aren't closed, and getting him out of the house during the day? Yeah, in your dreams.

He swears that the sun will burn him alive.

"He's always been very imaginative, give it time, it will pass" his mom said when the subject was brought up during a family dinner. "Joanna, he's 18 years old now. He's not a kid anymore!" the poet's father slammed his fist onto the table. "Face the reality, our son is a lunatic! We need to lock him in a facility before he tries to kill us in our sleep!" as in any average family, a friendly discussion quickly turned into a heated argument. "Don't you dare talk about our child like that Richard!" The mother stood up. "All he needs are prayers. This is his soul being sick, not his mind!"

As the argument went on, little did they know that their son was listening.

His skin has become whiter than snow as he died. He was devastated by that situation as any person would be. The constant hunger was destroying him, but not as much as nobody in his family believing him.

He used to be quite religious, one of his close friends was a priest even. Like every good catholic man he was in church every Sunday before "the incident". Now he can't, not only because coming out of the house during the day is deadly for him, but also because the last time he went to the church during the night, hoping to find some solance and pray away his strange illness, he couldn't enter.

It was like an invisible wall was within the entrance, the door was clearly open, but it felt like it was still closed. A heavy feeling hit him as he felt that he's suffering the worst penalty possible for his sins.

Feeling hopeless and abandoned not being able to ask god for guidance he decided to take a longer route home. To clear his mind, but also to have some more time to think why something so illogical and heartbreaking would happen when he tried to go to the church. Going trough one of the darker alleys another man walked past him.

No one else was there.

And suddenly he felt oh so so thirsty.

He launched at the man and pressed him against the wall of an old building with incredible strength he didn't know he possessed and bit his neck breaking the skin immediately. The man tried to fight at first, but as soon as Nilon's fangs penetrated his skin, he went numb.

Nilon drank, like he haven't drank anything in years

and it felt so good.
