A Flower Blooms Once (Bright And Eternal)

Summary:

As a young teenager, romance was never on Galinda’s mind. It never occurred to her that this was what’s normal, she didn’t realise she was supposed to have crushes neither did she ever want one. Several boys over years have made flirting attempts, there were no flusters, no heart flutters, no butterflies, no fantasies. They all ended with a face of confusion and awkward goodbyes.

Or

Galinda is Demiromantic, her love life is a nothing burger, until Elphie shows up.

Notes:

Read this whole thing before you begin so you are not too confused. AND we need to set boundaries.

For all readers reading this, please be civil, respectful and open minded, this is a vent fic up until last chapter so please be a decent human being in the comments. If you have nothing nice to say, zip and move on.

Now to the fun part, a little explanation about The Aromantic spectrum before we begin (just to clear the confusion):

Aromanticism is when someone experiences little to no romantic attraction to anyone at all. This doesn’t mean someone doesn’t want to date, it just means they don’t have crushes.

Aromanticism is a spectrum. Everyone has different experiences and no one’s romantic experiences are the exact same. Some people may feel romantic attraction but very rarely while some feels none at all and it’s valid either way.

Here’s a little more detail for Galinda’s romantic orientation:

Some Aromantic people experiences romantic attraction very rarely or only under specific circumstances, hence the Aromantic SPECTRUM. (which you will see with Galinda)

In this case Galinda is Demiromantic which means when someone only develops romantic attraction when a emotional connection is established (she is still lesbian so don’t worry, her Aromantic brain still pulls through for Elphie)

Feel free to ask any questions if you want, I will try my best to clear up any confusions. If I can get enough questions, I might compile them and answer them all in a new chapter.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

As a young teenager, romance was never on Galinda’s mind. It never occurred to her that this was what’s normal, she didn’t realise she was supposed to have crushes neither did she ever want one. Several boys over years have made flirting attempts, there were no flusters, no heart flutters, no butterflies, no fantasies. They all ended with a face of confusion and awkward goodbyes.

Entering high school, her popularity as the girl with the perfectly curled golden hair grew. Being popular unfortunately not only came with prying eyes but also overly desperate ears. Over the years the same words are hammered into her mind, “Do you have a crush?”, “Who’s your crush?”, “Are you and…dating?”, “Do you like…?”. It followed her around like a shadow, it lurked below her feet as long as the spotlight hung above her head. It went from harmless curiosity to waves of discomfort, her face plastered with a radiant smile while the words drowned her from the inside.

That’s what everyone feels, right?
