Chapter Text
He reached wrapping around the rope, the hot sun against his skin. It was a slow dance over time, the air sweet with the scent of summer and alive with the flutter of wings in the air.
His sensitive flowers ripe with possibility, the electric shock of his stamen brushing tantalizingly against that of neighbour. Ever since he first was aware, he had felt their presence, a dual longing to both reach towards the sun, yet at night when his flowers opened wide, to reach across and curl, entwine, exist within neighbours presence.
Their flowers met, dusted, shared, and the slow dance began. Back and forth each day, up to the sun, over to neighbour until their vines were helplessly intertwined and they were one instead of two.
And their fruit grew, slowly, sensitive to the surroundings, swelling more and more each day until the combination of the sun on their skins and pressure within seemed unbearable. Their fruit hung swollen and full, warm from the summer air, and the skin was tight - so tight. An errant breeze passed by, the whisper of the earth's breath across each of them, causing their stems and leaves to sway. Their fruits full and heavy between them rubbed against each other, and that delicious friction finally acquired was followed by a pop and a delicious release.
Their seeds commingled across their leaves and spilled onto the warm, rich soil between their roots. Their purpose fulfilled, memory and time spent, they drifted again to each other and then slowly to the ground.
It was time once again to impart their memory to the earth, pass out of existence and memory and wait to dance again next year.
