    Summary

Killjoy explores the raw, often unspoken tension in female friendships, the cost of repressing pain, and the way beauty standards can become curses. It’s an emotional horror story disguised as a fairytale, for readers who love retro style with razor-sharp teeth.

"Joy Bensen’s hand hovers over the handle of the diner entrance, fingertips grazing its cold, slick surface.

Neon signs sit outside in the chilly Indiana air, snow dusted and bleeding muted blues and reds through the glass doors. It warps the young woman’s reflection into something of an alien nature. She squints, assessing the fine state of her emerald, wing collar dress, and sparkling red slippers. Her smooth face, free of blemishes and thought lines, gazes back at her with an odd expression sewn into the creases of her eyes and mouth.

    She blinks, but doesn’t move.

This here diner’s her dad’s. Harold Bensen. Joy works here every other day, so she knows what it ought to sound like, even on an empty, late night like this. Even in the company of only one other person.

    It's silent.
No soft hum from the jukebox.
No subtle twitch from the overhead lights.
No faint chirping from the crickets outside."
