Here I am. After a long worthless life not worth living.
here I lie, Dying as my last breath suddenly taken in a glimpse of a second. Life flashing through my eyes as my inhibitor rings gave out and unclipped themselves from my wrists. chipped, battered and damaged beyond repair.
The battle is done. The chaos emeralds safely stashed somewhere safe. With rouge and the rest of the crew. Relief and pain overtook me, My body relenting as my eyes feel heavy. My head forcing me onto my feet, but exhaustion limited it, my knees hitting the floor, following my bruised body after. Voices could be heard all around me.
A drone crashing somewhere near me as the voices got louder. My body betrays my mind as I closed my eyes due to exhaustion and excruciating pain.
I winced as my mind mentally attacked, as A single memory passed through my eyes. One I never wanted to remember and one that was hidden away from the dark corners of my mind. Everything went dark as I drifted into the last memory that flashed within my eyes.

“shadow, one thing I’ve questioned ever since I met you is why you gotta frown all the time?” a mischievous smile spread along the corners of his face as his bright emerald eyes shined due to the sunset across the horizon.
“like, does it hurt even if you smile a little.” it was more like a statement than a question that the other hedgehog was too exhausted to address. one thing that differentiated the two was that the blue blur wasn’t ever exhausted from any races the two did together.
“the day I smile is the day I win against you in terms of speed.” One thing that shadow hated, was being tied almost always against sonic. Fighting wasn’t a issue, as neither anything else. Shadow always, always had an upper hand. Being the ultimate lifeform naturally had his perks, as his ego.
Sonic stood, his pride growing with each second that passes between them as he spoke in that annoying tone shadow always loathed. And, as annoying as he could admit, one that he can never do without.
“We both know that could never happen, as I, sonic the hedgehog, the blue blur, the legend, the fastest living hedgeho-“
“one more word from you and I will not hesitate to shut that mouth of yours permanently.”
The threat lay in a Calm and carefree approach as shadow spoke with an annoyed tone, his gaze directed at Sonic’s emerald eyes, Marveled as to how it shined brightly with the sunset.
“Oh yeah? Wanna try that out, ultimate lifeform?” Sonic chuckled lightly as he spoke in a teasing tone. Shadow contemplated, hating that smirk sonic always flawlessly pull off every single day. He stood, His eyes focused on sonic. The other stiffened, realizing what shadow was about to do.
“hey, shads, I know we don-“ his sentence got cut off as shadow lunged for him, not giving the other any time to defend as sonic hit the floor with a thud as he winced in pain. Sonic chuckled, realizing shadow was over him with a smirk spread across his face. His eyes having a sort of… loving look to it as his smile slowly softened. Sonic rolled onto his side as to gesture away from his touch. Shadow not relenting as he limited the others movements under him.
“We’re best buds right shadow? I don’t see a reason you would keep me held under here. Unless…” Sonic had a look on his face. Almost like he was… contemplating? Thinking? Whatever it was, embarrassment took over shadow as he got off sonic. Thinking his gaze probably gave it away.
“Whatever scenarios you have in that head of yours is something that I don’t want to concern myself with.” Shadow said, his voice having a hint of embarrassment that even sonic could decipher.
“shadow are you.. catching feelings? You know I never believed it when Amy briefly had a sort of “talk””, he raised his hand to make air quotes. “with me about y-“
his eyes scanned his actions as he looked down at the ground. Shadow looked up, moving slowly to sonic. He reached for the others hand, holding it over his as he traced circles over his.
“I- *sigh* It was hard, truly, to try and not notice your overly confident demeanor and/or annoying personality.” He said nervously. Having stressed over this moment for weeks.
“So.. you do like me.” Sonic said in a surprised tone. Shadow had a nervous look on his face as sonic realized what exactly shadow was getting at.
“You.. you could say that.” He said, bracing himself for whatever answer sonic would give.
“I- naturally this is not really surprising to me because of Amy and with her charming personality and all, and, FYI I was glad she had moved on, but with you? I wouldn’t know how to make the first step, wouldn’t know how to, I dunno like you back? I guess? Well that would be irrelevant because I d-“shadow moved closer to him, just inches away from their noses to touch.
“Just calm down first. I know this is a lot to comprehend at first and you can think it ov-“
“No”
“No?” shadow still had that surprised look on his face. A hint of despair appearing then masked again.
“no, meaning I don’t have to think it further.” Sonic said, moving closer to him.
“I- you don’t want to think it further.”
“No, I Said I don’t have to because I will take you up on that offer of liking you back. You losing your hearing too shads?”
he chuckled lightly as shadow drew a nervous but relieved breath. He laced his hand with Shadow’s and had a genuine smile across his face. Shadow, having a similar look on his face looked on over to the horizon to see the setting sun as Sonic’s eyes reflected it.
“Well look at that, I made you smile without even letting you win!” sonic teased, his eyes filled with an amusing look as he took shadows hand with his and sat down on the hill to watch the sunset.
“You wouldn’t let me win whatever scenario may happen.” Shadow answered, his tone amused and also teasing.
“Well, I did just now. But I guess it’s a win win for both of us”
“Oh with accepting my confession? There’s mostly an action to solidify it.”
“And what is that “action” hmm?”
“Oh I think you might have a clue.” Shadow said in a teasing tone, moving closer to sonic, Until his face was just inches from the other. Sonic leaned in, their noses touching slightly. Shadow leaned back suddenly.
”but, I think we could wait that out for another time hmm?” he said in an amused tone as Sonic’s cheeks blushed slightly. Frustrated, sonic pressed his lips in a thin line in annoyance. Before managing to speak.
“wow its like that now? Thought we were sharing a moment here shads.”
“and we were” Shadow said, his gaze fixed intently in front of him, towards the sunset, avoiding Sonic’s eyes entirely.
“Then what was that all about?”
“What was it about?”
“you know exactly what it was about.”
“You can’t tell me you actually want me to kiss you, sonic.”
“Well…. What if I do? Whatcha going to do about it shads?”
“just watch the sunset I guess.”
“what? Oh c’mon you want to kiss me as much as I want to, don’t you?”
“would it change anything if I complied?”
“Hmm, I mean it wouldn’t but I’m right here you know.”
“You want it as much as I do.”
“no! you do, I-“ sonic took a moment to process, once he did in all his frustration he nudged shadow by the elbow.
“ugh. Fine I guess you make a point.” he said, looking forward and seeing the last rays of the sun make it’s way down the horizon and coloring the clouds in a pink and orange hue. Sonic tilted his head to look at shadow, his crimson eyes shining from the sun.
“I guess I made the right choice.” Sonic whispered lowly to only he could hear.
