Work Text:

Chapel peered into the brig, then turned to look at La’an. “You don’t think the forcefield was overkill?”

The security officer scowled. “When you wake up with a strange creature licking your face, then you can talk about overkill.”

Chapel laughed. “It’s just a dog.” She bent down to admire the furry canine. “And a real sweetie, by the looks of it.”

“That remains to be seen.” La’an crossed her arms. “Where’s Dr. M’Benga?”

“He said something about being a doctor, not a veterinarian,” Chapel explained, still staring adoringly at the animal in front of her. “So I volunteered.”

La’an sighed. “Fine. Can you do your job now?”

“Alright, alright.” She scanned the animal. “Yep. Canis familiaris.”

“So it’s a dog.”

“Yes, she is,” Chapel’s voice rose in pitch. “And she’s a good girl, yes she is.”

La’an glared at Chapel. “Great. I’m releasing her into your custody.” She hit a button and the forcefield vanished.

The dog made a beeline for La’an, who immediately stepped away. The dog followed.

La’an shot Chapel a look. “Do you mind?”

Chapel stifled a giggle. “Alright.” She bent down and picked up the dog. “Come on, girl. Let’s go find you a treat.”
