Nami was seated at a low table, writing, when the door to the room slid open. Zoro stepped in, closing the door behind him and leaning against it. “Nami,” he said evenly. “Are you busy?”
Raising an eyebrow, she considered this. ”I’m almost done,” Nami replied. “I’m just working on an intel report for Kine’mon. Give me a sec?”
With a nod, Zoro sat down.
Silence fell as Nami worked. Soon she set the pencil down, scanning over what she had written. Satisfied with it, Nami turned her attention to Zoro. “Okay, what’s up?”
“I want you to tell me what happened on Whole Cake Island,” Zoro said, getting right to the point as usual.
It wasn’t exactly a surprise that he wanted to know. Still… “Care to be more specific? A lot happened.” Nami hedged. They’d only been there for a short time, but it had been as chaotic as their adventures usually were.
”What went down between Sanji and Luffy?” Zoro elaborated. He narrowed his eye as he tightened his grip around one of his swords. “Did fancy brows try to leave the crew? Did he challenge Luffy?”
Remembering the scene on the plains, when she’d felt provoked into slapping Sanji, Nami winced. It was probably a good thing that Zoro hadn’t been there for that; seas knew Luffy had forgiven Sanji, but Nami was still working on that herself. “I think…” she said slowly, carefully, “that you should ask Sanji.”
”I’m asking you.” Zoro shot back.
”And I’m telling you—” Nami started before she cut herself off, frustrated. She breathed in and out, gathering her temper before continuing. “The details don’t matter, and most of it isn’t my story to tell anyway. What matters is, Sanji chose us in the end. Luffy’s his captain, and he’s part of our crew.”
For a long moment, Zoro appeared to be turning that over in his mind. “You’re right,” he finally said, standing. “Thanks.”
She shrugged. “”Don’t mention it.”
With another nod, Zoro stood and went to leave. “Zoro,” Nami called after him, making him look back at her. “Sanji had his reasons for what happened on Whole Cake, and they were good ones. So stop worrying about what happened. Trust him, and Luffy, and me. Okay?”
Zoro waved it off. “Yeah, yeah, I got it.” He left the room, and left Nami alone with her thoughts.
