   Summary

   In the library halls of Noctavia, an independent city-state in London, a fledgling vampire is caught perusing a forbidden text. What begins as a confrontation swiftly devolves into an interrogation shaped by grief and the boy’s unfortunate ignorance. Confused and afraid, he insists his intentions were harmless—but his feigned innocence only deepens Finch’s demand to know who led him to the book, and why.
