Chapter Text
Kai was angry.
But that wasn't strange.
Kai was known for his anger, he always would be. He's... the hothead.
But something was different.
His mind was clear.
His mind was clear, and all he saw was how avoidable this was. There were other methods they could have used to kill Wojira, there had to have been. Nya's death... it was pointless. A waste.
He breathed in, shivering, as he went through the kata Wu taught him, as he began to slowly burn holes in the floorboards with his shuffling and moving. But it wasn't enough. He was restless, the flames deep inside, they begged for him to act, to lash out, to burn, to incinerate. They wanted to cremate the world that pained him so.
He breathed in, and forced his flames to die down.
He couldn't just... attack people indiscriminantly, and he couldn't go back to the red shogun.
Lloyd-... Lloyd couldn't see that.
Then.... something shifted.
If this could have been prevented... why didn't he? His minds turned to each and every adventure they had gone on, facing the great devourer, the serpentine, finding the fang blades, morro, apsheera, the day of the departed, the time twins... So many powers and abilities, magic items they've found and tossed aside.
Why didn't they keep them? Why didn't Cole teach them the spinjitzu burst.
Sure, it had been forgotten by all but the masters of earth, but it's a technique, not an inbuilt trait, they could have learned it.
Maybe... with that, and... the scroll of forbidden spinjitzu, airjitzu...
Kai's mind ran ahead, with how many different ways they could have been stronger, before something shifted in him, and he grit his teeth.
There was no reason not to.
It could have saved lives, hundreds of lives, thousands.
His mind turned to Wu... and his heart stilled.
He loved Wu like a grandfather, Wu had took him in, Wu had kept him safe. But he knew Wu. Wu had lived for millennia, and couldn't help but see... someone else instead of Kai, he had always been harsher on Kai, when he had fought Garmadon on the destiny's bounty, during his training, and even when running the tea shop.
He'd even forgive the great many of his past enemies or allies who keep coming up, the fact they all ended up coming up in one decade, let alone one lifetime, was just bad luck.
But there had to have been more they could have done, they had the realm crystal, they could have brought back Garmadon's spirit from the departed pre-emminent, or at least let the group learn from him.
He'd demanded the obsidian weapons be kept in borg tower.
The weapons they found in the first realm, the various jade blades hey had, the anacondrai blades, so much of the things they had found over the year... had been locked away on his order.
Kai couldn't help but clench his fist, as a series of thoughts came to his mind, his flames shimmering under him, kept tightly wound around his core, as his mind flashed back to... Aspheera.
Having his fire ripped out was different.
It was different from losing it in the prime empire.
It was different from losing it when he gave it to Lloyd.
It was different from when Lloyd got possessed.
It was painful, it was slow, he felt the pain, as his soul went dim, and it seemed to crack like glass.
His mind turned to the person who had helped him cope afterwards, helped him heal from the fear.
Skylor.
Then his mind, his traitorous mind, turned to his father, and his staff.
The staff that could steal elements.
The broken staff.
Skylor who comforted him during his crisis of faith with the fake reveal of his parents being traitor.
His mind turned to the time twins, of the reversal blade, which he and Nya had hid together.
He ignored the voice in the back of his mind as his thought process continued.
Nya, Reversal blade, Staff of elements.
He smiled, as he knew exactly what to do.
A small fire burned up from his eyes intensely.
