Summary
One of the most terrifying parts of life is knowing that anything could change in the span of a second, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. There is no controlling time, no halting the flow of it. It moves independent of any external force, no matter what.
That doesn’t make it any less surprising how quickly things can go wrong. One moment Kai is beside Nya, fighting smoothly, covering all of her blindspots like a good partner does, and the next Nokt has him on the ground several feet away, his fist pounding down on Kai’s face. She can hear, even from so far away, the horrible crack of his nose or cheekbone as it breaks.

Kai could not tear his gaze away from it.The figure it portrayed was feminine, with wings fractured at the edges like brittle glass, arms reaching downward as if forever mid-fall.
Her eyes were hollow, carved with such delicacy they seemed to follow him even in the shadows. And though the pot itself bore no inscriptions, no symbols that could mark it as anything more than an eccentric piece of junk, something within Kai trembled as his fingers wrapped around its cool ceramic curves.
He only held it for a moment.
or: Kai comes accross some cursed relic, which upon contact slowly drains away his elemental powers, consequences oh consequences.

It was all bright. Too bright, painfully bright. He was frankly expecting his sight to go black rather than white.
"Dearly departed..."
What was that voice? It was weirdly familiar. It wasn't the weirdest thing in this situation though. His whole body felt weird. Or... he couldn't feel his body at all. It felt empty, cold. Freezing. It felt like one of the times he had lost his elemental fire, except way, way colder.
"...this may come as a shock, but you have transitioned out of the living world."
He felt a tingling, as if new limbs were growing out of nowhere. The bright light was slowly fading out.
What? Out of the living world? No, he couldn't have. Everything had happened too fast, he couldn't even do anything. He couldn't be...
"I vow to protect you as you move to the next stage of your journey."☆
Instead of getting stuck in the nether space after the blood moon ritual, Kai dies (they sacrifice his soul) and meets Morro in the Spectral Lands
