Enji stood there, utterly astonished, his eyes widening in disbelief as he processed the unbelievable sight before him. There, right in front of him, was Hawks—the feathered and flamboyant hero—cradling an egg in his arms. But this was no ordinary egg. This egg was enormous, comparable in size to an American football, and it had an adorable pink bow tied around it, adding a whimsical touch to the bizarre scenario. Enji couldn't help but feel a surge of curiosity bubbling up inside him, prompting him to speak up.
“What on earth is this?”
Enji asked, his voice a mix of astonishment and genuine confusion.
With a chirp that was characteristic of his playful nature, Hawks proudly lifted the egg a bit higher, a glimmer of joy in his eyes.
“This is our daughter,”
He declared, a hint of pride lacing his words.
Enji blinked in shock, momentarily rendered speechless. His mind raced as he tried to wrap around the staggering revelation.
“.... What? Y-You laid an egg?"
He stammered, unable to fully comprehend the situation.
“Yes!”
Hawks replied, his enthusiasm undeterred.
“B-but how did that happen?!”
Enji's voice was tinged with a combination of worry and bewilderment.
Hawks’s expression shifted, a flicker of discomfort crossing his features as he winced slightly.
“It hurt, that’s all. It’s not like it’s painless or anything,”
He admitted, a hint of vulnerability in his usually confident demeanor. A child. The reality of it began to sink in for Enji. He was going to be a father again—a new life was on the way. But the sheer absurdity of the situation weighed heavily on him. With Hawks of all people? It was almost comical when he reflected on their lack of precautions. A slight internal battle raged in his mind as he grappled with the implications of their choices.
“Aren’t you a man, though?”
Enji blurted out, confusion etched across his face as he tried to reconcile the biological intricacies.
Hawks paused, contemplating the question for a moment. He then launched into an explanation that left Enji even more perplexed.
“Well, since I was fourteen, I’ve been laying unfertilized eggs. It’s just part of my quirk, you know? The doctors said they could remove my parts to stop it, but I really want to keep my, you know, my ‘manhood.’”
At that moment, an overwhelming sense of bewilderment washed over Enji. This world, filled with quirks and fantastical abilities, had always surprised him, but now that surprise was elevated to a whole new level. He couldn’t quite shake the feeling that, in this bizarre reality, anything was indeed possible. The image of Hawks, joyous yet vulnerable, clutching the egg with a pink bow, would be a memory that Enji would carry with him.
“I really need to sit down for a moment,”
Enji declared, sinking into the plush cushions of Hawks's couch, feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders. The news he had just received was overwhelming, a torrent of thoughts and feelings crashing down around him like a storm. There was, however, one thing he was absolutely certain of: he wasn’t going to abandon this new child, no matter what.
“I realize this must be a lot to digest, but I honestly didn’t know how else to break the news to you,”
Hawks confessed, glancing sheepishly at Enji.
“So, I figured inviting you over for what I thought would be a casual hookup would make it easier.”
His voice trailed off, the insinuation lingering in the air. It dawned on him that if he’d simply laid out the truth from the beginning, Enji might have agreed to come over.
“Honestly, you could have just told me what was going on, Hawks,”
Enji replied.
“I wouldn’t have been upset, you know. I’m really not that person anymore… or at least, I’m trying not to be.”
He muttered those last words quietly, the memory of his past self surfacing like a ghost from a bygone era. A year ago, he might have reacted differently, fueled by anger and disbelief.
“I’m really sorry. It’s just... everything is so brand new to me,”
Hawks responded, his tone laced with genuine regret.
“I only found out a few days ago that I was going to become a parent, and it feels like my world has turned upside down in an instant.”
As he voiced his apology, Enji felt a surge of empathy wash over him. Suddenly, without thinking too much about it, he reached out and pulled Hawks into a gentle embrace, careful not to jar their precious egg child nestled between them. The warmth of the hug was reassuring, bridging the gap between their tumultuous emotions.
“It’s okay, Hawks,”
Enji whispered softly, a comforting smile spreading across his face.
“We’re in this together, you and I. We’ll navigate this storm as a team.”
His voice held a reassuring strength, a promise that despite the uncertainty ahead. It had been quite a while since anyone other than devoted fans had embraced Hawks. When the moment finally arrived, he readily accepted the hug with one arm, while the other remained protectively cradling the delicate speckled egg that contained their future child.
“So it’s official then? We’ll be raising her together, right?”
Enji asked, his voice tinged with a mix of hopefulness and trepidation. He couldn't help but wonder if Hawks would truly be open to co-parenting, especially given the complicated history Enji had with his own family. Would Hawks be willing to accept the weight of that responsibility alongside him? As Hawks gently pulled away from the warm embrace, his eyes sparkled with enthusiasm.
“Of course! We’re going to be the most awesome parents ever! Our daughter is going to have the coolest dads!”
His excitement was infectious, and he instinctively cradled the egg closer to him, his smile radiating joy and optimism.
For a fleeting moment, Enji was swept along by Hawks’ exuberance. A soft smile crept onto his face, and in that instant, everything seemed perfect. They were a team, united by love and anticipation. But then a sobering thought hit him like a jolt — he couldn’t ignore the reality that lay ahead. He would have to explain this new chapter of their lives to his other children, and that realization brought an unexpected weight of anxiety.
“Fuck…”
He muttered under his breath, the tension in his chest tightening. The prospect of sitting down with his kids, revealing the existence of a new sibling, and explaining the complexities of their family dynamic felt daunting. As he contemplated how they might react, a wave of uncertainty washed over him. What would they think? How would they take the news? Would they understand? He sighed, running a hand through his hair, knowing he had a significant challenge ahead — one that would test not just his courage, but the strength of their newfound family.
