Work Text:
Lance faded back into consciousness gradually, and when he did, he found himself lying in a hospital bed.
“W-what? How’d I get here?” he wondered. “Did we win?”
“Welcome back, Lance,” his mamí said gently.
“What was the last thing you remember?” a doctor asked him.
“Um. We were flying back to Earth?” He said it like a question.
“Lance, it looks like you have amnesia, and don’t remember anything from the past six years,” the doctor informed him.
“Six years?!” Lance exclaimed.
“I know it’s a lot, Lance,” Shiro said, giving him a sympathetic look.
“We’re here for you.” His mamí put a comforting hand on his arm.
A nurse came in just then. “I’ve just gotten ahold of the patient’s spouse, who will be here soon.”
“I’m married?!” Lance practically shouted.
“Yes,” his mami confirmed. “And very much in love.”
“Who?” Lance demanded. “Do I know them? Have I even met them yet?”
Shiro winced. “Lance… this might be a bit much to take in.”
“Oh god, is it James Griffin or something? Please say it isn’t him.” Lance made a face.
“No… it’s, uh, Keith.”
What the hell?
Lance’s jaw dropped in utter disbelief. “I’m married to Keith?!”
Speak of the devil, Lance’s husband came in just then.
“Lance!” he gasped. “You’re awake!”
Lance stared at him, dumbfounded.
Okay, what the actual fuck?
“How bad is the amnesia?” Keith asked Shiro, brow furrowing in concern.
Keith. Concerned. For him.
“He doesn’t remember anything from the past six years,” Shiro said gravely, wincing as he awaited Keith’s response.
“Oh.” Keith’s face fell.
“Hold on. Back up. Rewind. Keith Akira Kogane is my husband?! Holy shit,” Lance breathed.
“Is that a bad thing or a good thing?” Keith hedged, scratching the back of his neck.
Woah, his hair was longer now, and tied back in a braid.
“I just… I thought I was going to die single. With a body count in the hundreds, mind you, but I never thought I’d get married. Like, last I knew, we were in the middle of a war!” Lance rambled, throwing up his hands.
“Did you want to marry Allura?” Shiro wondered, and then immediately looked like he regretted it.
Lance snorted. “No? She hates me. But like, how the fuck did I get Keith to marry me?”
“Actually, I proposed,” Keith shrugged.
Lance gaped at him, the shock only growing by the second. “Do we have kids?” he wondered. Oh, no.
“Uh. No,” Keith said.
“Do we want kids?” he asked.
Shit, why did he ask that?
“Um, I think so?”
“Fuck, sorry for getting amnesia. I just… holy shit. Keith married me.”
“I’m still not sure whether you like this or are against it,” Keith said, biting his lip.
Holy shit, that was hot.
“Of course I’m happy! I’m just shocked! Who knew? Keith has feelings for me!”
“Do you… have feelings for me, at this point of time? Like from when you remember?” Keith prompted.
“I’ve been in love with you since you beat everyone in the flight simulator when we were like, fourteen,” Lance deadpanned.
“Really?!” Keith’s mouth fell open a little bit.
“Did I not tell you this?” Lance folded his arms and quirked his eyebrow.
“Well, you did, kind of, but I didn’t think you were serious,” Keith shrugged.
“I don’t joke about my love for you, Keithy.”
“Y- you literally do,” Keith reminded him.
“Well, uh. I love you?”
“Love you, too, Lance.”
