Work Text:
“Sir should be in bed!”
Alastor gave a curious blink down at his adorable assistant before reaching over and petting her head, “That’s not necessary, my dear.” However, instead of taking the simple fact as it stood, Niffty looked up at Alastor with a gleam of trouble in her eye. He leans back with a sigh, “Have I forgotten something important tonight?”
“Yes.” She crosses her arms.
“Goodness, why didn’t you say anything?”
“I am!”
“I do not recall me “Needing to Sleep” to be on the list of things needed done~”
“No.” A footstomp followed. “But it often comes with.”
There would be a pause of silence between the two. Alastor found himself staring blankly forward and away from Niffty’s glare as he searched the dusty confines of his rotten brain.
“Oh!” An earnest gasp followed as the realisation hit him, “You meant story time!”
“I DO.” She’s dancing in place now, “You’ll love what I’ve thought up cleaning the bathrooms today!”
“Will I?”
“Yes! Yes! I finally figured out how to solve the plot hole between Prince Pinkigun and hotty hot darkness of Darkwing Dove!” She attempts to quieten her shrieking laughter into a loud whisper, “It turns out that it should have been on the beach! It makes it so much more tragic! The way its all going to wash away-”
“Wonderful!” he claps, “Delightful!” claps again, “But don’t spoil it for me now my dear!” They both press their own fingers back on their lips with a shared smile. The silence is brief as Niffty cannot hold back her giggles. Oh, he adores her so.
They would agree to meet back in Alastor’s room in 10 minutes.
A shadow’s flicker is all it takes for Alastor to return to his quarters. He debates just walking into the swamp and staying there for the night. With an annoyed huff, he tells that thought they are uncouth and instead turns to his bar cabinet in a Bald Cypress.
Usually the solution to certain kinds of Niffty stories is a strong nightcap. Thankfully, she reuses a lot of characters for various themes so it doesn’t take too much for Alastor to guess where some things will go. That said, she always finds a way to surprise him. And he wants to be awake enough for those. He loves surprises!
He settles into bed. Niffty huffs as she brings up a large, thick binder covered in stickers, glued sparkly sequins and vermin bits. Yes, he can see the dreaded genre written with ones he hoped to hear more of decorating the spine. She scoots up to sit at his hip, propping the binder open against him.
"You know, my dear, I think Husker might be more of your target audience for this one."
"Ohhh! It has been a while since I've given him a bedtime story!" She flips through many stained pages before reaching the fresh, crisper pages hot off the typewriter. "I'll find him after I finish you off!"
"Can't wait to make me squirm?"
"Your input is the most important! If I can get you to tremble, then I know I will bring everyone else to their knees!"
Well, in that case. Alastor decided that it was an honour to sit through another Omegaverse tale. That said, whoever introduced her to the concept of it will die and the Princess will just have to deal with it.
