One moment they’d been laughing at the old school special effects, crunching on popcorn, before slumping into a long slow section woefully devoid of banter and swordfights and then Koushi was hazily aware the movie was over, static dancing over the tv screen in a hushed rasp.
The blanket over him pleasantly heavy and perfectly warm. It must’ve been the sound of the static that woke him, though clearly the volume had been turned down, maybe even before the end of the movie. The VHS player blinking 4:24 at him in the darkness. The Sawamura household well and truly asleep, he groggily gazed at the tv, wishing it off with his mind, not sure where Daichi had put the remote. With a sigh, his eyes slid over to find the man himself, Daichi fast asleep beside him on the floor. Bed abandoned. Rolled over and facing Koushi, his hand nearly touching Koushi’s. The tv static rushed warm through Koushi’s body at the sight of him in the dim light. If he listened close he could make out the sound of his slow gentle breaths, Daichi’s brow smoothed of worry, leaving him looking boyish and young, in a way he didn’t often when he was awake, barking orders at the team, or herding siblings or frowning over chemistry homework.
Koushi’s eyes felt heavy, Daichi’s peace as warm and pleasant as the blanket over his shoulders. He didn’t know where it had come from but he was grateful all the same.
It would be the simplest thing in the world, Koushi thought dimly, letting his eyes slip shut, to reach his hand just a little further, to slip his hand beneath the warmth of Daichi’s...
