When I fall

Summary:

His vision started to blur and seemingly faded between dark and light. ‘Ok that’s really not good.’ He realized what must be going on a bit too late.
“Scar?” Grian suddenly spoke, having noticed that something was wrong, “what’s happening?”

Aka: Scar almost passes out and Grian is there to help

Notes:

More chronic issues for c!Scar!

Pre-syncope is a really weird one, especially when it comes out of nowhere
So i wrote this to kinda demonstrate that a little bit
(And to project on my comfort character 👀)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

He’d been standing against a wall in their kitchen as Grian cooked them both dinner. Just listening to the chaos of Grian’s job and the people he dealt with that came in for coffee that day. It was routine for them, one cooks and the other keeps them company in some way.

This time though, Scar felt weird.
He was no stranger to random symptoms and chronic illness in general. He’s had his fair share of shit. So it wasn’t unusual for him to feel odd, especially later in the day, so he just brushed it off. He did lean more against the wall though.

But the weird feeling didn’t go away, it just morphed and changed. Going from feeling lightheaded to also feeling really foggy and confused. It really started to concern him as it got progressively worse the longer he stood there.
This wasn’t his usual odd feelings, this was different and kinda scary.
His vision then started to blur and seemingly faded between dark and light. ‘ Ok that’s really not good.’ He realized what must be going on a bit too late; he wouldn’t be able to make it to his room in time.

“Scar?” Grian suddenly spoke, having noticed that something was wrong, “what’s happening?” He turned off the stove, turning to the vex.
Scar tried to speak; tried to communicate that he felt weird and that he might pass out, but he honestly didn’t know if it was understandable or if anything even came out at all.

He pushed off the wall and stumbled into the living room; using everything he could as a brace on the way.
“Scar?” Grian called as he trailed behind him, but the vex didn’t have the energy, nor the clarity to respond.
Just as he was about to reach the couch, his legs buckled from underneath him; he dropped to the floor, his arm was thankfully able to reach the couch to at least keep himself somewhat upright.

His vision was blurry and he couldn’t see anything around him. His vision again fading to black then to white as he sat there. He couldn’t think, it was like his brain was malfunctioning and had frozen up, he just felt anxiety and fear and confusion.
He did feel something warm press against him though; up against the side that wasn’t leaning on the couch, and around his upper back.

When the static of his vision and the frozen feeling in his mind eventually began to ease, he saw what was now going on.
He was sitting with his legs bent to one side of him, away from the soft couch that had kept him from face planting, with his arm stretched out, resting on the seat of it.

He blinked slowly, trying to push away the heavy fog that had enveloped him, but it only did so much. The warmth against him moved, turning so that it and him were resting comfortably against the couch. It moved his head to lay on its shoulder so his head was resting on something. Their arm was still wrapped around his back, but was now around his waist instead, to hold him closely. The smell of coffee and pastries surrounded him as he leaned further into the man’s side. Oh, the warmth was Grian. His mind finally supplied him with the answer to its gradual realization.

He hummed quietly, alerting Grian.
“You back with me a bit more now?” He muttered.
Scar hummed again in response.
“Good,” he breathed a sigh of relief, “we’re gonna stay here for a bit longer until you’re ready, then we’ll move you to your room. Ok?”
“K” Scar whispers.

He couldn’t remember the next little bit very much. It was all foggy and vague. He did remember Grian holding him though. That was nice.
Once he became a bit more aware of himself and his surroundings, they moved him to his room. It wasn’t far; they planned it that way when they moved in so it was easier on them both.

Scar was able to convince Grian to lay down with him for a bit. He wanted to finish their dinner, but he couldn’t deny that he wanted to be near Scar for the next little bit, just in case. So he relented, lying down next to the spacey man, watching him with a bit more attention than probably necessary. Scar just smiled at him; he could see the concern Grian held. He was fine now though, so he tried to soothe the worry in his friend.
Did it work? Who knows. But it was still good to try.

Plus, he got to annoy Grian with his stupidest puns, so it was perfect.
