Work Text:
“Officer Chen.” Lucy hears Miles’ voice vaguely, but her head is pounding and her ears are ringing. She had been pushed into a wall by their suspect, but still managed to take them down. “Lucy.” Her ears are still ringing but she looks up at his voice.
“I..I’m fine.” She manages to finally get out. Miles is worried and for good reason. “The suspect is in custody. Let’s clear the scene and get back to the station.”
“Shouldn’t you be going to a hospital?” Lucy turns around far too quickly for her body's liking.
“No, I don’t need to go.” She says it with gritted teeth because her entire body hurts. Lucy had managed to hit her head and is pretty sure she also twisted her ankle. “And you better not go blabbing to my husband or Grey. If you do, you’ll be working the drunk tank every weekend for the next year.”
Miles gulps and nods. “Yes ma’am.” He goes to do as he’s told but he keeps his eye on Lucy. He’s always been scared of both Bradford’s but Lucy scares him more than Tim.
An hour later, Miles is driving them back to the station. He keeps glancing at Lucy, worried about her. “If you don’t stop staring at me, I might just smack you.”
Miles grips the steering wheel harder. “You went down hard earlier and I’m just making sure that you’re okay. Your husband might kill me if something is seriously wrong.”
Lucy gives him one of her glares. “I’ll handle Tim. You only need to focus on your paperwork.” She is fine and doesn’t need her husband hovering anymore than he already does. “I can handle myself.”
“Don’t I know it?” Miles smirks and pulls into the parking lot. He opens her door and she’s annoyed by him watching her every move. Lucy rolls her eyes and walks inside. She takes a quick look around and doesn’t see Tim, for which she is grateful.
“Go start the paperwork. I’ll be in my office.” Miles nods and hurries off. She goes to the breakroom to grab a few things before hurrying to her office.
Lucy sits down and grimaces. She has shut her door and slowly pulls her foot out of her shoe. Her ankle is swollen and she puts the ice pack that she grabbed on it. Lucy hisses at the contact. She also takes some medicine that she hopes helps with the swelling. The paperwork won’t do itself and she starts her own before being able to review the pile on her desk.
Lucy wipes the tiredness out of her eyes and looks over the report she had just typed. She just that hopes Tim doesn’t see it because it’s her events of what happened today. She will tell him that she’s fine if he asks because he’s been more overprotective than ever lately. Miles knocks on her door an hour later and she waves him in.
“Here are my reports from today. Can I help you with anything else?” He still looks at her worriedly.
“I’m okay. Why don’t you head out for the day? I hope you have plans for your days off.” Lucy tells him kindly.
“Aaron and Celina are going to bring me out to show me more of Los Angeles. With those two, who knows where we will end up.” Miles looks a bit stressed when he says it.
Lucy giggles. “They have some interesting places they’ve taken you. Enjoy yourself and I will see you on Monday.”
Miles nods and walks out of her office. He goes to change and of course Tim is there. “Are you okay there, Penn?” He asks gruffly. Miles does his best to school his face.
“Just a long day, sir.” When Tim glares at him, he knows that he’s in trouble. “Your wife scares me more than you do.”
Tim shakes his head and breaks his resolve. “I know you’re only doing what she said. I’ll go check on her. Just tell me it she’s okay.”
“She is sir. She kicked our suspects ass, as always.” Tim smiles proudly.
“That’s my girl. Have a good weekend.” Miles hurries out of there and Tim goes to Lucy’s office. She’s not in there when he arrives and he knows that she must be changing out.
Wade waves him in. “Do you two have any plans for the weekend?”
“I think having some quality time with my wife sounds pretty perfect. It’s been a long few weeks.” Tim is looking forward to just being with Lucy.
“That it has, son. You take care of her. She’s changing out right now, so she should be done soon.” Tim says goodbye and goes to wait for Lucy. He’s outside the locker room when she walks out and jumps when she sees Tim.
“I didn’t expect you to be waiting.” He brings her in for a hug and she melts into his arms.
“Well, I missed you today. I barely saw you.” Lucy hums in agreement and she can feel her headache starting to come back.
“Well, it’s a good thing that we have two days off together.” They walk out of the station together and head home. Tim watches Lucy closely after what Penn had said, but she’s hiding whatever it is at this moment.
They get home and do their routine as normal. When she is cooking dinner, Tim finally sees that her ankle is swollen and she’s starting to limp. “Are you finally going to tell me what happened today?”
Lucy sees Tim standing there crossing his arms after he has started their pasta. “Nothing happened today. I took the suspect down like I always do.”
Tim shakes his head. “Why is your ankle swollen and bruised?” Lucy chews her lip and grips the counter when she accidentally puts a little more pressure on her ankle than expected.
“I must have twisted it on my takedown. I didn’t even know I hurt it.” She hates worrying him and hopes that he believes her.
“Lucy, baby.” Tim walks over to her after stirring the food. “You’re hurt.” His voice is full of worry.
“I’m okay, Tim. I just twisted it a little.” She doesn’t mention that her head is pounding. Tim cups her cheek. “You’ve had so much to worry about lately and I didn’t want to add more to your plate. I hate when people think I can’t handle myself on the job. I took the asshole down, but not before he managed to slam me into a wall. I hit it at an awkward angle.”
“You scared your rookie into not telling me.” Lucy smiles and then goes red. “I love when you scare the rookies. It’s one of my favorite things about you.”
Lucy shrugs. “I learned from the best, didn’t I?”
He kisses her. “You’re going to go sit down and put your foot up. I’ll finish dinner and then we will ice your ankle some more. I’ll get a wrap for it too.”
“Thank you, babe.” She sounds tired when she says it.
Tim helps her to the couch. “Don’t try to walk on it right now. I’ll make sure to get something for your head. It doesn’t seem like you have a concussion.”
Lucy smiles at him and he goes back to the kitchen. She should have known that she couldn’t hide it from him. Tim was still recovering from his own injuries he received the week prior. He needed stitches on his back and his black eye is still healing. He took on four men on his own and surprisingly came out the winner. “Here’s your food. I’ve also placed an order for a few things for you.”
“You’re the best.” Tim smirks and sits down with his own food. He makes sure Lucy’s ankle is elevated on a pillow before eating his own food. It doesn’t take long to eat or clean up.
Lucy hisses when Tim puts more ice on her ankle. “Thanks for always taking care of me even though you’re still hurt.” Lucy whispers out.
He takes her hand and brings it to his lips to kiss. “I will always take care of you, baby.”
The doorbell rings and he grabs his bags. “Here’s some ice cream because it always makes you feel better.”
“I’m so lucky to have you.” She murmurs. Her ice cream is delicious and Tim hands her more medicine to take since it’s been a while.
“And I’m lucky to be able to take care of you.” Lucy smiles softly at him. He takes the wrap out and starts to bandage her ankle. “This may not feel great, but hopefully it’ll help. If it doesn’t get better, then I’m taking you to the doctor’s.” As much as Lucy doesn’t want to go, he’s right. “Well, let’s hope it heals on its own.”
Tim puts what he ordered away and then helps Lucy change before getting comfortable in bed. “You need to get some rest. We will do as much relaxing as possible this weekend.”
“Sounds perfect.” Tim goes to lock up and when he comes back, Lucy is sound asleep. He stares at her, thankful to have the best woman he could ever ask for by his side. His life has turned out better than he ever could imagine.
