Wemmbu had been exploring the Fartherlands for what felt like an impossible amount of time now, gathering any resources that might be helpful for his and Egg’s journey. But honestly, it was getting incredibly boring at this point, with no one for Wemmbu to talk to as he walked across repetitive patterns and broken stretches of land alone. Egg had stayed behind to interview BaguetteBattler8 for his lore book, and Wemmbu didn’t feel like waiting for him, going off on his own.
Not wanting to gather resources anymore, he checked his inventory and decided that, yeah, this would be enough for them to last the next few days. So he turned around and got ready to head back to where he came from, grabbing his communicator to message Egg.
“Yo, where are you right now?” He wrote out quickly.
“Still with BaguetteBattler. This guy has some crazy lore on him,” Egg replied after a few moments. Of course Egg was still locked in on the lore.
“Ok. Heading back now. See you soon,” Wemmbu responded, putting his communicator away right as he sent the message and beginning to walk back.
He decided to use the time to himself to organize his thoughts a little. Life had been pretty chaotic recently, and he hadn’t had much time to properly process anything going on around him.
He thought about his lost mace, about how he’d definitely kill Sharpness the next time he saw him and get it back. He couldn’t lose this time to him, not if he wanted to prove himself. He had lost enough battles already; any more would be beyond humiliating to his ego.
Suddenly, his thoughts were cut off by the feeling of nothing below his feet and the anxiety that came along with that feeling. He felt himself fall without having enough time to process what was going on and catch himself, landing with a thud.
Luckily, the fall wasn’t as far as he had expected, only being a couple of blocks down. However, it was still far enough that he felt his shoulder sear with pain as he tried to sit up. He must have dislocated it in the fall. Just his luck.
He decided to shake off the pain for now, though. He was only a couple thousand blocks away from Egg’s location, and he could have him take a look at it then. Plus, it wasn’t the most painful thing that’s ever happened to him on the server. He’d live.
He got up as gracefully as he could with one hand, only wincing a little in the process, and started to walk again, taking extra care to stay away from ledges as he did so.
It had been a couple of hours since Wemmbu had started walking back when, suddenly, he heard the sound of wind charges being launched right behind him. Great. Just great. This is exactly what he needed to end off the day (and probably his life): Sharpness coming in out of nowhere and macing him in the face. He couldn’t even fight back properly, not with a dislocated shoulder that’s for sure. This was the end for Wemmbu.
However, instead of the feeling of pure nothing around him as he kissed the world goodbye, he heard the sound of soft footsteps landing right next to him.
“You’re not even gonna try to run?” Sharpness asked him smugly. Ugh, he forgot how much of an asshole this guy was.
“Nah, I can’t be bothered, not with a dislocated shoulder. You can just kill me already, honestly. Take your second mace,” Wemmbu answered honestly, already accepting his fate. He tried to ignore the bitter taste of loss in his mouth as he prepared to meet his end.
Sharpness seemed to think about this for a moment, conflicted. It didn’t take him long to decide, however, as he answered soon enough.
“Hmm. No thanks. That’s not any fun,” Sharpness responded. Wow. Of course Sharpness out of all people would be the type to spare someone out of boredom. Wemmbu’s not too sure why he’s surprised.
“Wait, you said your shoulder’s dislocated?” Sharpness asked suddenly. “Here, let me help you.”
But before Wemmbu could refuse, he felt Sharpness grab him by his singular good arm and begin to fly off with him, not caring to hear his answer. This day couldn’t get any better for him, could it?
It wasn’t long before they arrived at Sharpness’s humble abode, the one Wemmbu had nearly died in multiple times. It was still covered in a few holes from when he and Egg had torn down the roof so he could properly mace Sharpness, but it seemed mostly repaired otherwise.
As Wemmbu sat himself down at Sharpness’s kitchen table, he tried to put himself more at ease. He doesn’t think Sharpness would go through all of this trouble just to kill him right now; he’s way too impatient for that. He probably does want to genuinely help Wemmbu for some reason. For what reason? Wemmbu doesn’t know. But for some reason.
He felt himself relax a little as he reassured himself. He could survive an encounter with Sharpness, for sure.
However, the calmness only lasted for a few moments, as he suddenly felt a pair of hands grab his elbow and forearm and lift them upward. He heard the distinct sound of a pop as he let out a yelp of pain.
“Dude! You could have at least given me a warning before you did that!” He yelled. Seriously, does this guy not know any healthcare ethics?
“Sorry!” He responded, sounding genuinely apologetic. “I’m not used to warning people before I do that. Usually I just do it to myself without any warning,” He admitted sheepishly.
Before Wemmbu could say anything more or question him, he heard the sound of a splash potion being thrown and the feeling of relief and healing following after. A healing potion, that was it. It was more than perfect for numbing the pain and making the healing process faster for his shoulder. Huh. He wouldn’t have thought of that.
“You know, you’re pretty good at treating injuries for a world-class PvPer. I thought you wouldn’t have to deal with things like this at your level,” He said, trying to make it come off as a joke. He doesn’t think it landed, though, not with the jealousy seeping into the edge of his words.
Sharpness looked at him somewhat confusedly, before responding, “You know, Wemmbu, I’m going to be honest with you. Even when you’re at the top, you’re still going to lose, even to people under you. It’s just the nature of fighting: things happen that you can’t really control. You just have to move on and keep chasing your goals.”
Wow. For once, those were actually some pretty wise words from Sharpness. They stung a little, sure, but they were still pretty wise.
“Huh. I guess so,” Wemmbu mumbled. “Thanks, dude.”
Sharpness grinned at him before replying lightheartedly, “Yeah. Anytime. Now get out of here before I start seriously thinking about getting that second mace.”
Wemmbu laughed at him, making fun of how unthreatening he sounded, before walking out the door and flying off to where he knew Egg would still be.
The sting of the battles he’d lost before didn’t seem to cross his mind tonight as he flew through the open air. Instead, he felt at peace with himself for once.
