Chapter Text
The new year came and went, and the expecting parents are awaiting their daughter’s arrival. Ever since Phoenix got thirty-six weeks, everyone has been asking if she came. Sadly, she has not yet. To keep themselves busy, they have entered nesting mode, where they’ve been cleaning every space in the house. Bob has also been going to the base to help with research at the base laboratory. When Bob is out of the house, Phoenix would either clean or grab lunch with someone from the squadron or Ice.
“Are you sure you’ll be fine?” Bob asked as he packed his bag.
“Yes, I’m sure,” Phoenix reassured her husband. “I’m just getting lunch with Ice and walking around. One of us will call you if something happens.”
“Okay,” Bob kissed her forehead. “Remember, I’m the first call, and bring your hospital bag with you.”
Nodding her head, Bob left the house for base. After waiting for another ten minutes, Ice soon pulled up to the house in his Cadillac SUV to pick up his daughter.
“Hungry?” Ice asked as he picked up the hospital bag.
“Starving,” Phoenix chuckled. “Hopefully this salad will start labor.”
A few days later, Phoenix had found out through Penny that there is a restaurant that has a salad that would kickstart labor. It had a pretty good success rate when Phoenix looked over the restaurant reviews. Over the past week, Phoenix has been getting contractions, but not enough to the point where she’s in active labor.
Chuckling at his daughter’s comment, Ice started the twenty-minute drive to the restaurant. Throughout the drive, they talked about the things they did throughout the week. Since Ice retired, he found it pretty lonely staying at the house all day. Despite developing his woodworking hobby, he still found it lonely. He could only work on wood for so long before getting tired. He and Mav have thought about getting a dog so it won’t be lonely around the house.
Pulling up to the restaurant and parking into a space, Ice got out of the driver’s side and walked to the passenger’s side to help Phoenix out of the car. Walking into the restaurant, they greeted the host and were led to their table. Phoenix knew she was going to order, but she waited for Tom to look at the menu before they ordered.
“Look at this,” Ice chuckled as he saw the text he received from his husband.
Looking at the message, Phoenix laughed at the photo that Mav sent Ice. It was a selfie of Mav and the rest of the Daggers having lunch together in his office. Ice and Phoenix decided to do the same thing and sent a selfie of both of them before digging into their lunch.

“So, how do you feel that she’s about to come soon?” Mickey asked Bob.
“Nervous,” Bob chuckled.
“That’s expected,” Reuben patted Bob on the shoulder. “You and Phoenix are going to be fine.”
“Thanks,” Bob smiled as he looked at the picture of Phoenix on his lockscreen.
Once Bob finished his lunch, he threw away the container before saying goodbye to everyone. Leaving Mav’s office, he made his way back to the lab before putting his phone away in the cubby.

After finishing their lunch, Ice and Phoenix decided to walk about the neighborhood they were in and explore the shops. The effects of the salad haven’t kicked in yet, but Phoenix is hoping it will kick in soon. Right now, they were in a homeware/kitchenware shop since Ice needed to get a few things for the house.
“Do you think we need more mugs?” Tom asked as he looked at one.
“If Bob were here, he would tell you that you could never have enough mugs,” Phoenix chuckled as she rubbed her bump.
“True, but I can also learn how to make a mug,” Tom said as he put the mug back.
“First woodworking and now ceramics? Do you get into any relaxing hobbies such as golf?” Phoenix questioned while laughing.
“I have with Goose and the other,” Tom replied. “It can get a little bit boring at times.”
Humming in agreement, Phoenix soon felt a damp feeling down her leg. Stepping back and looking down, her eyes widened as she saw the puddle.
“Tom,” Phoenix tapped Tom’s arm to get his attention.
“Yes-” Tom’s eyes widened as he saw the puddle. “Okay, let’s find some-”
“Don’t worry about it,” an employee said, coming by with a roll of paper towels. “This happens often, you two, focus on heading to the hospital. Congratulations and wishing a safe birth for you.”
“Thank you,” Phoenix and Tom thanked the employee before leaving the store.
They rushed back to the car and started the drive to the naval hospital. On the way there, Phoenix tried to call Bob while Tom talked to her doctor that they were on the way. Phoenix called multiple times, but Bob still hasn’t answered.
Seeing his husband’s contact pop up, Mav smiled before answering the call.
“Hi, how are you and-” Mav was soon interrupted by his husband.
“Get Bob and get him to the hospital. Now!” Tom said before hanging up.
Stopping what he was doing, he grabbed his coat, phone, keys and ran to the laboratory. He ignored the looks from other officers on base as he ran past them. Warlock already knew what was happening, so he ignored Mav and continued looking at his paperwork. Scanning his base ID, Mav slammed open the door, which broke Bob out of his focus.
“Mav?” Bob saw Mav panting at the doorway.
“Phoenix. Hospital. Now,” Mav said between each breath.
Understanding what he was saying, Bob ran over to the cubby and grabbed his things before the two sprinted off to Bob’s car. Pete got into the driver’s seat as Bob got into the passenger seat. Pulling out of the parking space, Mav sped all the way to the hospital, breaking every speeding law he could. Pulling into a parking spot, the two of them rushed into the hospital and checked themselves in before heading up to labor and delivery.
Looking through the window, Bob and Mav saw that Ice was helping Phoenix with the contractions, creating counter pressure.
“Hey,” Mav stopped Bob. “You got this.”
Thanking him, Bob entered the room and tagged Ice out. Thanking the two, Bob and Phoenix watched as Mav and Ice left the room. Phoenix and Bob soon looked at each other, realizing what was going to happen within the next twelve or so hours.
