Why do you only call me when you're high?

Summary:

Dan Heng receives a call from Blade, unexpectedly. According to Stelle, the man wasn't very bright with phones and such. So why this unexpected call? And it's a miracle, even. Amphoreus is isolated from the rest of the universe. Even the two raccons was surprised at the call yet they didn't further bothered Dan Heng.

Dan Heng truly hopes this won't lead to another disaster like the past, especially with the current situation at hand

Notes:

May the ao3 curse bless my grades, not me. Unfortunately, I've been cursed the moment I got home- first fanfic in ao3. I write in wattpad but my last publish was last month. May be ooc 🫠 , I love Renheng so much that it makes me sacrifice myself for them.

Chapter Text

Death wasn't what Dan Heng feared, it was the death of his loved ones. He was prepared to die, for them but them for him? That'd hurt even more than a stab on the chest. The nightmares of him, always of that man. Even in an isolated world, hidden from the universe where the Astral Express couldn't make a connection. That... Man... Haunts him.

He stopped running away, he slowly learned to embrace, he's still his own identity while still embracing the past and the punishment of his previous reincarnation. He swore an oath, to tread forward until that day arrives, together with him.

His day passed by normally in Amphoreus, doing his leisure time, learning the history of the world and ways of leaving, especially the cart of the Astral Express that they used to enter the planet. It looked like it was beyond fixable and he wasn't the one for mechanical side of things, he's more knowledgeable in information and technology anyways. Nonetheless, it was still disappointing. No ways to contact the outside, stuck in a world where almost everything can be unable to comprehend for a normal mind (unless one is part of the Genius Society, that is).

He laid in bed, Stelle already sleeping like a rock on the other hammock with drool on the pillow, his eyes on the ceiling as he attempted to sleep while listening to quiet music. Just as he was about to fall asleep, his phone rang and shockingly, it was Blade. Wait...

Blade?!

Wasn't the cosmos supposed to be cut off from Amphoreus?! How was the man able to call him? And from the view of the background, it looked like he's in Edo Star. He rubbed his eyes open, surprise more apparent than sleep as he went to the balcony for more clear view and to wake himself up.

"Blade? How?" He asks, forgetting to greet the man due to his surprise.

"Dan Heng? Where are you?" The older asks, a grumble from him.

Dan Heng bit his lip in hesitation, reluctant if he should tell the truth or otherwise. He doesn't know how the man would react to his answer. Should he tell him that he's currently stuck in a world with no way out and currently part of a prophecy? He shakes his head, sighing before answering.

"... Did Himeko told Kafka already?" Dan Heng asks the man, lighting up the candle by the wall for light.

Blade's like stayed quiet for a moment, a sigh coming from the man before answering. "Yes, she did. She thought I need to know where you are considering are braces have a telepathic connection."

That... That was true. Their braces indeed have a telepathic connection. The ability to feel the other even when far away. He heard that Dan Feng made it for him and Yingxing.

"Our situation is complicated. Me and Stelle are stuck in Amphoreus and we have no way out. According to the locals, anyone who attempts to leave this world will be cursed by the Sky Titan." He explain, although brief and simple despite the complications behind it. He looks at Blade, taking a deep breath before asking.

".... How... Were you able to call me?"

"Silver Wolf did some stuff I didn't bother knowing and managed to contact you. I called cause I wanted to know if contacting you will work, it seems that it did."

Dan Heng pauses his breath, narrowing his eyes at the screen then gazing up at the sky. It was 3 AM, according to his phone. A time that he should be sleeping but unable due to some thoughts that ran his mind.

"I have to go. The others are calling me." Blade lastly speaks then ending the call, leaving Dan Heng in a moment of silence all to himself. The chirping of birds and hussle of wind assisting him as white noise in the back ground.
