You had been spawned into an unknown dimension, the lights and colours overwhelming, “What’s going on?” you mutter extremely confused. You look around the new area trying to understand where you were before noticing there was some purple rabbit talking about how their theme song was ruined again and they would have to rewrite it.
Once the rabbit points you out, a pair of what you could only describe as flying dentures flies right up into your personal space welcoming you to ‘The Amazing Digital Circus’. You pinch yourself as if you were trying to wake up from a wacky dream, only to realise that you weren’t dreaming. “Where am I?” You questioned hoping that someone other than the dentures would answer. He answers anyway. “Like I just said, you are in The Amazing Digital Circus and as your ringmaster it is my duty to give you the tour around our beautiful circus grounds!” “I don’t want to g-” Before you could even finish your sentence the tooth man had teleported you to the outside of the tent.
“My name is Caine and I’ll be your tour guide for today, this is the tent, you could do all kinds of things here from sleeping and eating and…” Just as suddenly as he started talking he stopped his eyes turning blue and showing lines of code, this lasted for a few seconds before he returned to normal “... Having fun in general! It’s basically like your base in between adventures! Isn’t that fun?” But again before you could answer he teleported you to a pretty lake.
“Here’s the digital lake! Bubble once drowned in here!”
“Whos-”
Again before you could reply he teleported you to an empty void. “Here’s the void, We don’t really venture out here and there’s no way for you really to get out here anyway unless there’s a flaw in my adventures… but that never happens!” After that he finally brought you back to the circus tent where you now finally got to speak again. “That was a very nice tour…Caine? But how do I get home?” You then heard a snark laugh from someone behind you. It was the purple rabbit. “Oh! You don’t get to leave your just stuck here forever like the rest of us… ain’t that right Pomni?” Pomni, the small jester, cautiously nods. You sigh and think to yourself “Maybe this is a weird lucid dream type thing and once I go through with this I’ll get to wake up and go home"
“Well what do we do now?” You pondered “We’ll go on an adventure, an in house adventure to let you get used to your new surroundings… But first! You need a name can’t just be calling you Newbie the whole time can we?”
Caine preached before asking “So what will it be?”
“Oh…err… I don’t really mind, you pick”
“Me? Huh? No one has asked me to pick their name before! Oooooh how exciting! How about Y/N? Huh? That’s nice isn’t it!”
“Sure whatever”
“Great! And for the adventure we’ll do today…hmm… How about shoot the stars! Oooh that’s one of my favourites to play with newbies!” Caine squealed in a joyous tone.
“Shoot the stars? What’s that?” You asked, looking a little nervous about was was going to come next.
“Well my dear, in ‘shoot the stars' you will be paired up in groups of 3 and one group of 2 to go around and find glowing stars hidden around the circus and grounds. Whoever has found the most stars by the end of the game wins! Oh and to avoid any accidents unlike last time” Caine stares down the purple rabbit (Jax) “...the guns are now water guns… Now to put you into teams..” You watched as Caine organised the ribbon, the weird rubix cube, and Raggady Ann (Gangle, Zooble and Ragatha) in one group and the purple rabbit, the jester, and the king piece in another (Jax, Pomni and Kinger) leaving just you left. “Well it seems you’ll be in a team with me my dear”
“Hey, that's not fair! You're the ringmaster and you’ll know where all the stars are!” Jax Complained though Caine fought back saying "I know but there is only me and Y?N in this team and this time Bubble will be hiding the stars… Won’t you Bubble?” “Yes Boss!” Bubble affirmed popping out of Caine’s hat to now hide the stars.
After a minute a leaderboard with a timer popped up indicating that the adventure had now begun. As the other teams rushed off, you and Caine were left standing there. “So what do we have to do again?” You asked, “We have to shoot the stars, I’ll find the first one to show you what they look like” Caine proudly stated, pulling out a watergun from the inside of his jacket, playfully pretending to shoot at You and a few other things. Once Caine had finished playing around he gestured for You to follow him as he moved towards the sleeping quarters.
Caine and You arrived at the sleeping quarters, as you both walked down the long corridor Caine introduced You to all the characters (this time by their proper names) and had brought you down to where your bedroom was. You looked at the door to see a replica of yourself, you gently pushed open the door to see all of your favourite things scattered around the room. “Do you like it, my dear? I made it all myself based on your personality” Caine announced in an almost smug tone. “I really do like it! It has all my favourite things in it, though it is a bit messy…” You chimed in and moved to start cleaning the room a little, as you started cleaning Caine spoke again “There was another reason I brought you here… I firmly believe that Bubble has hidden a star in your room and it's hidden under all this mess. I wouldn’t create a messy room so it would have had to be Bubble” Caine retorted again his tone still as smug as a cat who got the cream.
After a few minutes of digging you were finally able to see something glowing under the bed “Hey…Caine! I think I found a star” Caine then joined you by your side moving from where he was leaning on the door frame. “Oh indeed!” Caine bent down and pulled the water gun out of his jacket pocket and shot at the star, making an odd sounding fizzing noise. Then a voice could be heard from above “CAINE AND Y/N HAVE FOUND A STAR” “Well done my dear, you really are a smart cookie” Caine purred his voice suddenly a lot smoother sounding. “I guess we were the first ones to find a star, that’s good that puts us in the lead” You noted. “Put it here partner” Caine offered his hand up in a way gesturing to a high 5, in which you gladly accept.
“Where do we go now?” You questioned shuffling away from the bed and back into the hallway. “Well knowing Bubble they would’ve hidden a star by our main stage… though I’m sure one of the groups would’ve found it by now… Let's go check anyways, there’s no harm in checking.” Caine replied, already starting to walk to the main stage.
When you both arrived you saw the two groups violently searching around the main stage for stars. “Huh, that’s odd, Bubble always hides at least one star at the main stage, maybe they’re switching things up?” Caine pondered aloud before continuing. “We can go somewhere else, if both groups are here it would be a lot easier to find all the other stars!” Caine spouted out trying to keep his tone up-beat. Though as you two were walking away you heard the voice announce “JAX, KINGER AND POMNI HAVE FOUND A STAR” “
Darn” You heard Caine mutter under his breath “I guess that means we lost our lead” You sighed out a little disappointedly.
“So we’ll do everything we can to get it back… Won’t we Y/N?”
“I guess so, but where else should we look?”
“Well there is this large staircase that leads to the top of the circus, I’m sure Bubble would’ve hidden something there.”
“Alright then, let’s get moving” You said confidently, now walking with a pep in your step. As you started walking up the stairs, you quickly grew tired (even though you didn’t need to sleep or anything like that in the digital world) though you seemed to have barely even made it a quarter of the way up the stairs. Caine seemed to be fine but that was because he was floating, he was a few steps ahead and kept pausing waiting for you to catch up. “Come on Y/N we’ve got to get another star before anyone else!” Caine said hurriedly trying to speed you up. “How about I just lift you up these stairs instead? It would be a lot quicker” he said, not even waiting for an answer before clicking his fingers and making you float in a sort of bubble that kept up with him. “That’s much quicker, isn’t it my dear?” Caine cheerfully chirped.
“Well this is quite helpful, I was getting tired of walking up all those stairs”
“Aha! See, I can accommodate for my circus members, the others say that I’m not useful at all, but I try my hardest to fix all their problems”
“Well I think you’re useful.”
“You do?”
“Yea! You’re only doing what you’re told to, don’t worry about the others I’m sure they’ll come around when they realise how hard you work”
Caine smiles. “I like you Y/N, you seem to actually appreciate and trust me.” He pauses thinking about something before continuing “You know, I’ve been needing a human to review my adventure ideas, would you be up for it Y/N? It wouldn’t require much just you saying if my ideas are good or not "
"I think I could do that, though why don’t you ask all the circus members?” You questioned
“Because they would always say my ideas are bad and you’d seem to be the only one here who likes me, the others they are always so mean to me, they don’t get that I’m just doing my job… anyways we can talk about this later superstar, we’re almost at the top.”
As you both reached the top of the staircase and walked around what Caine called the circus’s ‘attic’, as it was filled with old props from all of Caine’s adventures. “Every prop here is from one of my adventures, I keep them as memories, Bubble has probably hidden a star in here.” You both start digging around in the props when the voice from above rings out again. “PLAYERS YOU HAVE 10 MINUTES LEFT, I REPEAT, PLAYERS YOU HAVE 10 MINUTES LEFT.” You start looking around more frantically, while Caine is trying to carefully look through all his keepsakes without breaking them (even though he could easily fix them). After a few minutes you had found another star by some fast food packaging, you called Caine over, “Hey Caine, I think I’ve found the star!” he quickly rushed over and squirted it with his water gun. The voice spoke again “CAINE AND Y/N HAVE FOUND A STAR” to which someone on the main circus floor responded with a groan. “Oh just ignore that Y/N whoever it was is probably just jealous that we're such a great team.” Caine cooed out.
After finding the star you start going down the stairs again, Caine putting you back in the bubble as you walk down. “Caine, what was your favourite adventure?”
“My favourite hmm? Well… one time I created this adventure where everyone lived in a forest, it made Kinger very happy. He got to look at all these different types of bugs, though, Ragatha hates bugs so she didn’t really like that adventure and Jax kept on making weapons out of all the spare wood. So really I was only able to make Kinger happy but, it was a really nice forest. It’s really hard to make an adventure that they would all like because they all have different styles and tastes, though one day I’ll be able to do it and that’s the day that they’ll realise that I’m actually a great ringmaster and not some failure!” He leans a little closer to you and lowers his voice “Though if I was really honest I’d say that this adventure is my new favourite” He playfully winks in your direction as you get to the bottom of the stairs.
Soon enough the adventure had ended and You and Caine had won! Your team had managed to find 2 stars, Pomni’s team 1 star and Zooble’s team none, but that was because they weren’t really trying. Caine congratulated all the other players and as all the players went their separate ways Caine stayed beside you “Now about you hearing some of my adventure ideas? You’d really be doing me a favour” “Ok” You agreed.
As you walked to his office you thought “Maybe being stuck here isn’t so bad, especially since Caine seems to be really nice…”
