Chapter Text
It was a hot day in the Hoenn region, and in the Petalburg woods lay a resting Deity, just wanting to enjoy the early Autumn breeze before the sun rolled over anymore and made everything even hotter. It felt as if somebody opened an oven as it was cooking a meal, blasts of heat coming and going with the wind.
“Micheal!” A kid hollered through the woods while briskly walking near a stream. Each step was a challenge as started to sip the last half of his drink in his thermos more frequently. “C’mon dude we gotta finish our Summer work!”
Troy was your average 10th grader working towards his Pokemon Trainer License, at least that's what you would believe at first glance. He adored Legendary Pokemon, like a lot. He often expressed his interest in moving to the Sinnoh region, where it was colder and secrets waited at every corner. But that's something he would know more about in the future.
Troy wasn't just trying to locate his friend, oh no, he was waking the Deity of Time Himself, Dialga. (Of course Dialga is genderless but he likes to think of himself as masculine!)
The Deity's head shot up and scanned the surroundings. He must've been hearing things, Teenagers don't come to these woods usually, there's a better place near Petalburg to party and get drunk than here. So he attempted to get back to his questionably deserved slumber.
“Mich-mmmpph!” A hand grasped his mouth from behind and an almost comically deep voice spoke out from that position behind him.
“You were looking for me?” It was a bad impression of an evil villain from a show him and Michael liked. Sounded like a mix of an evil wizard and a dying Wailord.
Troy quickly peeled the hand off his mouth and jokingly punched Micheal on the shoulder.“Oh you jackass you scared me! Where the hell were you?”
Micheal grinned and slapped his hand onto Troy's shoulder, gripping it to hopefully give a feeling of anticipation. “Dude.”
“Dude, what?”
“I just found the best place for a secret hideout.” Micheal exclaimed excitedly.
He grabbed Troy's hand and pulled him down the stream, and the stream got wider, and wider, until it was basically a mini river. “What's this way? I thought this place was a tourist area in the Spring.”
“Pffft, it hasn't been used since we were in like what, 4th grade?”
While that was true, he had an odd feeling. There wasn't a sign of Shroomish at all. No noise but the ever approaching sound of a waterfall, and nothing like the normal smell of lingering Stun Spore that frequented these woods.
The pair walked ever closer to the waterfall as the sun hit them directly overhead like a beam. They were quickly out of water, as Micheal was borderline drowning himself on the rest of his drink.
GLUG GLUG GLUG GLUG
“Blegh, dude why don't you bring water? Oran juice isn't going to hydrate as much as water if we get lost.” Despite being slightly grossed out, the juice was still happily downed.
“Dude my parents make bank off of Oran Berry farming, you know that.” Troy's parents inherited an Oran Berry farm from his grandfather on his mother's side of the family a couple years ago. They moved from Unova to Hoenn to capitalize on that.
Micheal remembered the fact that Troy always smelled faintly of Oran Berry's and how he would constantly get Oran products like juice, medicine, and even body wash from Troy's parents to his during the holidays.
“...Damn I forgot you were a city guy, you've grown too much from that.” Micheal said, reminiscing on the past.
The two of them walked quietly until they hit a big gate with the words “DO NOT ENTER” on the front. “Alright, I assume we climb over it right?” Troy asked
“Nope….” Micheal paused for a second in cheap anticipation. “We go around.” He pointed at the broken down fence directly next to them.
“...Yeah I totally noticed that.”
The two went on as the Deity was getting quite restless, tossing and turning in his slumber. He could feel them, but he wasn't exactly sure what exactly was being felt, so he decided to just get lost in his own abilities once again.
When they both got to the other side there was a lighter emphasis on grass and trees and more so on rocks and water. “I haven't actually gone this far yet.” Micheal added.
Troy looked at him with minor annoyance. “So there's a chance we get mauled by some wild Aggron?”
“Big Pokemon can't survive on Shroomish, that's all that's around. That's the reason why these woods are perfect for hanging out.”
Troy thought about it for a second and decided that was a good point, why would a big Pokemon be hanging around here? There's nothing to eat. “Yeah, fair enough.”
“What, you have a fear of strong Pokemon? You're gonna be a trainer pretty soon, that won't go when your Pokemon get super strong and evolve.”
“Man…” Troy decided to be completely honest now, his parents had painted a trainer persona on him, and expected him to go out and do what every teenager does.
“I don't want to be a Trainer, Micheal. And I'm scared of strong Pokemon I guess.”
Micheal looked at him, not in shock, but in an I KNEW IT! sort of way. “Honestly, that checks out. You do way too well in school, I got all F’s and D’s and I'm just waiting to get my Trainer License.”
The stiff gravel under their feet seemed to silence as their conversation became more interesting. The beating sun became just a mere backdrop to them as their hike continued.
“Speaking of school…” Troy was reminded. “How about our summer work? School starts next week.”
“Dude fuck that, we're walking now, we'll talk about it later.”
…
Before more silence could set in and ruin the mood, Micheal blurted out a topic with no thought. “What did ya wanna do if you're not gonna be a trainer?”
“Well, I want to be an archeologist.”
“Oh like Cynthia?”
“Honestly? yeah kinda. But I was thinking a Ranger type thing”
The Pokemon Rangers were known for being archeologists, because of the knowledge they had to study about Pokemon and the environment.
“Oh yeah I totally see it, you already take care of a farm you can probably do that. And they do have to get good grades. Micheal didn't really know about Rangers, but he'd be damned if he wasn't gonna support whatever his friend did. “So what type of archeologist?” He asked.
“Well I would prefer to study Legendary Pokemon. I just want to see how they live, there's not too much documentation on it.
Before any of them could think of any response, they suddenly got to the very reason why this place was closed off in the first place. There was a tall, rushing waterfall overtaking everything they saw. No amount of good views anywhere else could amount to this.
The sky was vividly orange and pink as the sun was perfectly hidden behind the trees near them, hinting at a sunset soon. They were nearly speechless, but one of them managed to speak up.
“Bro.”
“I know.”
“You think we can get to that cave over there?” Micheal pointed in the distance near the waterfall, there was a clear cave entrance. It was almost like it was calling them over as Troy walked a bit closer to measure the distance.“We do that, then we call for help, deal?”
Micheal got his phone from his pocket and looked at the fading sky. Yeah they were in huge trouble when they got home, no doubt about it. “I still got 63 percent on mine, yours?”
Troy swiped the phone from his pocket and flipped it open. It was an older model that didn't support Rotom, but it was much more reliable than Michael's newer model that relied on Rotom electricity “94 percent.”
They both knew they had only so much time to check out the cave, so they walked there at a speedier pace than they did the whole hike. And without wasting any of the sun's time, they arrived at the cave.
Dialga got lost even further. He did not know, he did not hear, he was happy.
“You go in first, I'll try to take most of the blame if you do.”
“Deal”
Troy entered cautiously, he looked at his feet in case there was a sudden drop. The sound of rushing water just beside the cave seemed to reverberate everywhere, slightly helping him navigate, like a Zubat.
His foot suddenly got caught on a stray rock, and he fell like a sack of potatoes. It wouldn't be that bad if he just hit the ground normally and got up, but he fell for a good few seconds and hit the ground hard. “Fuck!” He yelled in pain, but when he got up and checked himself for injuries, nothing seemed broken or sprained.
He got his phone out, no signal. Micheal couldn't hear his cries. But when he looked back, there was a faint blue glow in his vision. “Hm?” He walked toward the glow, he wasn't worried it would be a Pokemon, since what Pokemon glowed blue?
“...Just in case.” Troy grabbed a Pokeball out of his pocket and clicked the button to expand it. “3…2…1…!” He chucked it at the object, and the glow disappeared in the blink of an eye.
He didn't have to be a genius to see the glow coming from right behind him, his breath hitched as he turned around and backed away into a wall.
Clear as day, it was the bright blue hue of Dialga. The Deity and Master of Time. Something seemed… Nervous about him? “Holy, FUCK!
A sudden blast of blue aura made him fly backwards, bashing his head on the wall, making him go unconscious immediately.
