Chapter Text
An alpha will always leave a beta when the right omega comes along
It was something Nirei heard his whole life.
His mother had started saying that to him ever since his father left his mother for a younger omega.
It was a miracle she managed to have Nirei being a beta herself. She promised to keep him safe no matter the cost
Although it wasn’t the exact words Nirei knew what his mother meant when she told him to ‘not get attached.’
His mother warned him, many times when he would come home from school talking about a new classmate.
Since starting middle school Nirei never paid attention whenever his mother gave him weird looks when he spoke about classmates. He thought she was just paranoid.
Nirei was getting tired of telling her that’ He’s just a friend ‘ when he talked about anyone in particular. Going into his last year of middle school her scoldings became few and far. Nirei began to think that she was finally starting to lay off
Oh how wrong he was
When Nirei talked about joining Furin High his mother got the same look in her eyes and Nirei knew what was about to happen
“ Why would you want to go there of all places that place is filled with those no good alphas” His mother said voice strained as she continued chopping veggies for dinner
Nirei looked down fiddling with his shirt before taking a deep breath “ I just thought it would be a good experience for me “ Nirei said looking up at his mother who had stopped moving
“ You're not going there are plenty of other schools that have a better reputation “ His mother reasoned her muted scent was getting sour.
“ But mom” Nirei whined before getting shut down by his mothers glare “ Why are you always like this” Nirei mumble under his breath
“ It’s for your own safety “ His mother said moving towards the fridge “No it isn’t “ Nirei bit back. For the first time his mother just stared at him
“ Go to your room, we'll talk about this later” She said calmly as Nirei got up from the table. His mother finished cooking in silence.

Nirei walked through the halls of Furin excited about the first day. Opening the door to his classroom felt surreal. His mother had let him attend Furin high under one condition
“ You must Never trust any of those alphas no matter how nice they may seem, remember what I told you?”
“An alpha will always leave a beta when the right omega comes along, I know “Nirei said repeating the phrase he heard his whole life with out a second thought
His eyes scanned the room finding that it was full of alphas like his mother anticipated and he was one of the few betas and he was fine with that
As he made his way to his seat he felt eyes trailing his back as he tried not to shake from the nerves and excitement.he looked trying to look for his stalker
Now Nirei didn’t believe in those fairy tales that told stories about love at first sight and a happily ever after
But damn
Nirei found himself forgetting all about the promise he had made his mother in that moment
If it wasn’t that lone red eye that seemed to calculate his every movement. Then it was that face that seemed to be sculpted by the gods themselves.
Nirei felt his face flush as he fiddled with his notebook flipping through before landing on the page he was looking for
Suo Hayato
Nirei didn’t have much information on the other, just his basic appearance and how there wasn't much known about him.
“ What’s that” He heard a voice say from behind him as he hurried to close his notebook hoping the other hadn’t seen what was in it
“ uh n-nothing” Nirei said cursing himself for stuttering “ Hmm that didn’t seem like nothing” Suo said teasing him as his face grew hotter
“ I’m Suo “ The other said introducing himself just staring at him as if waiting for a reply
“ I’m Nirei” he responding proud of himself for keeping his voice steady

They became great friends throughout their first year at Furin. Suo helped Nirei learn to defend himself after Nirei had been cornered by a bunch of alphas in an alley
“ You never know when they might come in handy” the other said before showing Nirei how to throw a proper punch with actual technique
He didn’t know when their training turned into longing gazes and lingering touches. He turned a blind eye when his mother reminded him every time he found himself waiting by the phone for Suo’s call
“ Your improving Nirei I’m proud” Suo said after one of their more difficult sessions they were both sweaty as Nirei held Suo down on the mat straddling his hips
The words sent a spark through Nirei's spine and before he could register the moments his lips landed on Suo. It was sloppy but to Nirei it felt perfect

Nirei never thought he would end up with Suo but after a year their relationship was still going strong. Many of their classmates still teased them about it but it was all harmless
They would go on dates when they had time although Nirei’s mother wasent to happy that her son was dating in her words
“ A no good alpha scum”
Nirei didn’t care; he was living his life the way he wanted and spending it with Suo felt right.
At the start of their third year they noticed a new name on there class roster. The name was right under Suo’s that he had almost missed it but now reading it over it became obvious
Sakura Haruka wasn’t from Makochi
“ Don’t you think it’s weird for someone to love to this town much less join Furin “ Nirei said reading the roster over and over as if the name would disappear
“ Hmm you never know he might be interesting “ Suo responded with a shrug of his shoulders

Oh boy was it interesting
Nirei's first impression of the new kid was less than pleasant. Not only was he the only Omega in their class but he stuck out like a sour thumb
Black and white hair covered his head and his eyes were even crazier, one gold and one gray. Nirei thought his hair was due to stress but that idea was quickly shut down when the stranger yelled at him about staying out of business
“ Well your the one that came to this town and you expect people to not to ask” Nirei said as the stranger blushed
“ You must be Sakura, I’m Suo and this is Nirei “ Suo said putting himself between the two trying to ease the tension between them
“ What does it matter what your names are I came here for one thing either you help me or you get out of my way” Sakura said glaring at Suo
“ And what might that be?” Suo asked faking confusion
“ I’m going to be the top of this school” Sakura said confidently with a smirk on his face
Nirei almost started laughing if it wasn’t for the glare Sugishta was giving Sakura that had him cowering behind Suo
After all these years he was still scared
“ Is that so?” Suo said returning the smirk

After the initial introductions and Nirei having to explain to Sakura that Furin had changed and they weren’t the same anymore
They managed to become great friends
The class ended up picking Sakura as their class captain with Suo and Nirei being his Vice captains. They spent their afternoons patrolling the town
Receiving many gifts from the elders and shop owners. They ended warming up to Sakura and finding out why he had been so hostile in the beginning
When Nirei went home on the first day and told his mother about Sakura letting it slip that he was an omega. His mother had stopped for a moment before she continued prepping for dinner
“Just……. don’t get to attached” was all his mother said which left Nirei confused before he remembered what she was referring too
An alpha will always leave a beta when the right omega comes along
“ Moooom I already told you Suo isn’t like that” Nirei whined thinking his mother had finally let that phrase go
“ I know but it doesn’t hurt to be… a little cautious “ his mother said pausing in the middle of her statement
“ ughhh I know you’ve told me a million times already” Nirei said before taking out his notes continuing with his homework
I’m going to prove her wrong
____________________________________
To say Nirei was excited was an understatement. He had stayed up all night thinking about what to give Suo for their anniversary. He had decided to buy him something from one of the many shops in town.
He decided to write a letter for Suo as well thanking him for everything he had taught him throughout the years and for giving him a purpose
Dear Suo,
I still don’t know how to thank you for all these years we’ve had together but I guess I’ll start with that
Thank you, Suo Hayato, for all the happiness you've given me.
Thank you, for giving me purpose when I thought I wouldn’t be worth anything
Thank you, for teaching me how to defend myself after getting my ass handed to me in our first year
Thank you for seeing me when I thought I was invisible
I’m glad I was able to spend these last three years of my life with you
Thinking back I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t approached me first
I probably would have been a mess without you by my side
Again, Thank you Suo Hayato for putting up with me for all these years
With love, Nirei Akihiko <3
He knew it was cliche but what was love with out a bit of cringe
He sealed the letter in a small envelope as he set out for the shops
He had spent months saving from his part time job to buy Suo something special for their anniversary. He had seen a display a few weeks prior and had decided to save up for the item in secret
When he came home with the present his mother just looked at him for a few minutes before turning around and going back to her room
Nirei just shrugged as he shoved the gift inside a gift bag with the letter placed on top

Nirei had barely slept a wink during the night excitement coursing through his veins
He had decided to wake up early hoping to beat Suo to the class room and set up the surprise on his rake before anyone else could arrive
The walk to Furin felt especially long that morning but Nirei chalked it up to his nerves as he walked faster
He walked through the halls looking out the large windows at the bright sun slowing illuminating the halls of the school
He found it peaceful before he spotted their classroom door. He practically sprinted to the door slamming it open with out a second thought
It’s not like anyone was in there
_______________________________
Nirei should have seen the signs.
He was too blinded by love to notice him and Suo were growing apart. He didn’t think much of it they were both busy between work and patrols after school they rarely had anytime to themselves
He didn’t think twice when Suo canceled plans out of the blue because of a ‘Family emergency’ he just responded with a
“ it’s fine well hang out some other time”
Though some other time never came
There dates became very few and far and his mother was becoming more and more paranoid questioning him excessively and asking to see his phone more often
Sometimes at night he would hear her mumbling to herself but he could never quite make out what she was saying
It all made sense now as he stood frozen in the door watching his boyfriend and grade captain jump apart as if they had been shocked
An alpha will always leave a beta when the right omega comes along
The statement that his mother engraved into his head since he could talk suddenly made sense
“ Nirei I-i can explain” Suo said frantically
It was the first time Nirei ever heard him stutter.
Nirei didn’t need an explanation there ruffled clothes and swollen lips did all the talking for them
“ How long “ was all Nirei said as he let the gift bag fall on the floor with a small thump
“ What” Suo asked looking around nervously
“ How.Long” Nirei said this time louder as he say Suo look around nervously
He didn’t even know Suo could make those types of faces
“ …months”
“ huh”
“ 2 months” Suo said watching Nirei flinch back violently
Nirei couldn’t look at Suo knew that if he did he would break down and he didn’t want Suo to have that satisfaction
“ Mom was right” was all Nirei said before he bolted out of the room
The fact no one chased after him gave him all the answers he needed
He didn’t care the the town people were starting flood the streets
He didn’t care the he probably looked like a mess tears running down his face as he ran like his life depended on it
It didnt matter anymore
He practically broke down the door to his home watching how his mother just started at him before opening her arms allowing Nirei to finally break down properly
“ it’ll be alright Honey” His mother said. Nirei expected her to scold him for being foolish or to at least mock him but none of that happened
Instead his mother reassured him that everything would be okay and that he did nothing wrong
The words only made Nirei cry harder as he gasp between sobs
They stayed on the kitchen floor for what felt like hours before Nire fell asleep
By the time he woke up his phone was blowing up with messages from his classmates asking him if he was okay and why he wasn’t in class
Nirei just turned off his phone letting the messages sit untouched as he made his way to the kitchen looking for anything to eat before going back to his room
One thing became clear to him in that very moment he was just too dumb to realize it sooner
An alpha will always leave a beta when the right omega comes along
