Summary
The human world made no sense to Castiel. Every rule felt unwritten, every emotion a trap. He moved through life like a displaced traveler—present, but never belonging—an outsider wearing borrowed skin. He had once served Heaven without question, carrying out orders written in blood and calling it purpose. Obedience had been his cage. Righteousness, his excuse.
Humanity was so much louder than he expected—grief, guilt, fear, longing. It pressed against him until he could barely breathe. When it became too much, he reached for anything that dulled the noise—pills, whiskey, chemical quiet. He called it control.
Whatever exists between him and Dean isn’t something he knows how to name. Not friendship. Not trust. Something fragile held together by unspoken things—anger that hides care, distance that hides need. Castiel takes it. It’s more than he deserves.
But something is wrong. His instincts whisper danger. His memory has missing pieces. And there is a child now—strange, frightened, and watching him with wide, knowing eyes.
Castiel can’t protect him. He’s not sure anyone can.
Some monsters fall. Others are made.
He fears he may be both.
