faded (but not invisible)

Summary:

After ZARC was defeated and purified, certain people across the dimensions begin to notice… certain things.
Dreams of lives they don’t recall living, memories of people that don’t exist. Then, not long after, someone appears, almost out of nowhere.
It starts in the Synchro Dimension.

Notes:

I just decided to do this for fun because it’s been sitting in my notes app forever, if anyone is interested I might do something similar with the other dimensions

Chapter 1: Jack

Chapter Text

The dreams had been happening for over a week now, each one more vivid than the last.

This one in particular Jack knew for sure was a dream, mostly because he hadn’t known Crow when he was a child. They had known each other for a while before Jack became king, yes, but as far as he could tell there was no reason why his brain would be focusing on that every single night like this.

The current dream itself wasn’t too odd. Pretty grounded for a dream, actually. He was just… watching Crow duel some other kid— one who didn’t seem to be based on anyone he knew in real life. Nothing more than someone his mind must’ve made up, or maybe just somebody he’d seen briefly somewhere.

He didn’t think anything of it when he woke up.

The other person had become a recurring character. Despite this, Jack never saw his face clearly in a single one of the dreams.

Even so, he could hear him.

In one dream, Jack betrayed him. He had taken a hostage, supposedly. Blackmailed the other man into giving up his d-wheel and a card.

He doesn’t know why his dreams would show him that. It was probably just some weird distortion, some old regret merging with this character his mind had created.

Surely there was nothing more to it.

There had to be something more to it.

Two weeks. For two straight weeks, Jack had been having these dreams. Crow was in them some of the time. The other man was in them most of the time. The city never looked the way it did in reality, yet it was consistent to itself each and every time.

The storylines from them were carrying over as well. That wouldn’t be too odd, but for this long…

Dreams weren’t meant to be that consistent.

Even if it was just a coincidence, it was weird that none of the dreams seemed to break reality’s logic either. Even when he was perfectly aware he was dreaming, he couldn’t “break the fourth wall,” so to speak.

The whole situation was weird, but the part that bothered him the most was that one person who kept showing up, almost every single time.

He couldn’t think of anyone he’d ever met anyone matching that description.

Maybe it was just his mind making stuff up? Normal dream things..?

No. That didn’t feel right. They’d been happening every night for two weeks, there’s no way it was just a coincidence.

If only Yusei were here—

…Yusei?

Who…

Who was Yusei?
