(Oh yes I am LOCKED in..) (I said to myself never)
Beast-Yeast: Silver Kingdom, Morning time: 6:35 a.m.
The morning in the faerie kingdom was just as peaceful as a lily blooming underneath the protection of the sun. The flowers were dancing as the wind swayed from one side to another, the tree offering its fruits to the faerie below, butterflies, bees, and birds made their presence, all singing their special morning song.
The commander, who trained the famous silver knights and was the most faithful servant to his majesty, was awoken. He who was already clothed and bathed witnessed such a peaceful morning. Yet his face was the total contrast. Mercurial Knight. Yes, that was his name. A name he got granted once he offered his life and soul to be a silver knight.
He took his duty seriously. It was the only thing that truly made him, THE Mercurial Knight. He polished his blade and armour every day, trained until he couldn’t stand properly, and always made sure his dear silver tree guardian was in one piece. These were only some of the things he did every day to truly feel a spark of pleasure within his soul. Nothing more mattered. Just his duties and his duties alone.
Mercurial Knight fluttered his wings a bit, the sound of metal itself slashing through the air. He felt rather weary today, beyond tired than on any other day. His eyes felt heavier than usual, his wings drooped lower, and the shine on his armour seemed to dim now and then. It was beyond strange, knowing he could preserve anything. But that didn’t stop him from his early training session with his fellow silver knights. He headed out of his chamber, closing the door softly before flying his way down to the training grounds outside.
His chamber was placed almost on the fourth floor of this silver castle. Most important faeries of high class like: Nurses, knights/warriors, priests, royal gardens, wizards, or anyone considered of high importance was placed there for any sort of occasion that would require them. So there in the famous, breathtaking castle, lay tons of different faeries, all with their tasks and duties to do. Truly showing just how much of great importance was held in the silver palace.
Yet lucky for Mercurial Knight, he wouldn't have to make eye contact with any of them, it was early and some people were barely getting up from their calm slumber.
Most faeries knew him, and almost all nurses were familiar with him, just from all the times he would get injured in some way. They would wave good morning or nod in respect, and Mercurial Knight wouldn’t mind but he would fly away rather quickly. Not desiring interactions whatsoever.
He moved swiftly with the air, making his moves and turns so quiet that it seemed as if it was just a simple gust of wind in the palace. The closer he got to the ground below the more he sped up, he was already running a bit late from not being able to find his boots in his room. So the thought of his Silver Knights awaiting him, probably ready to tease the living life out of him: made him cringe deeply. Don’t get him wrong, he had a deep care for all the Silver knights he trained, especially the fresh knights who just started their journey, but at times where they could slouch around, gosh they acted like annoying silver minions running around.
With these thoughts that made him pull his hair out, he had finally reached the ground level. He took no time to take the big turn and move forward with great purpose. The training grounds were placed on the left side of the palace, having their main area. Then there were other activities or places to visit and see. It is calm and perfect, just so all knights could train in peace. It was a good balance of respect between them and other nearby communities.
Finally, he was in the training grounds after all these thoughts and the race down to the grounds. Just as he didn't want to hear it… the familiar sounds of the giggles and chuckles of the silver knights were heard, and it was louder.. which only meant more than expected knights were already waiting for their commander’s presence… gosh this was going to be a rough morning…
“Your majesty, we require your attention..elsewhere…” a faerie huffed out as they fixed their loose glasses. Elder Faerie quickly turned, nodding as he spoke: “Worry not for I will be there in a second, dear. Solo dame un momento.” (Just give me a moment.) The faerie wisely bowed and flew as quickly as their wings allowed.
Elder Faerie. King of the silver and faerie kingdom. The very guardian of the seal, protector of the Silver Tree. Him. El mero hombre. (The top man) Currently stood in the royal kitchen, preparing himself a cup of his favorite herbal tea. The one tea that would be powerful enough to get him through the day. So he needed to have a moment with him and his voice for but a second, before starting the real deal of the day. Sure, sometimes this tea wouldn’t have such an effect.. and would have to send him back to make another cup: yet he REFUSES to take a cup of coffee, not until his last breath will the words ‘I love coffee’ come out of his mouth… (this is targeted to the author..as in me..*sweats*)
Aside from the hate toward coffee.. today seemed like any other day to Elder Faerie himself. He would have to attend to all the newest problems in his kingdom, negotiate with new fellows with most likely the same deals as always.. and tend to the Silver Tree for any issues. Saying these things seemed like a piece of cake you could finish in less than a second, yet whoever thinks it’s easy: doesn’t know what it feels like to listen to a fellow faerie speak about how dumb outlanders are for 3 hours straight without a break… hell. I tell you, hell.
Elder Faerie took one more last sip of his tea, all in one gulp before finishing it all. He wiped his mouth, a small contented smile showing on his face. The sweet taste of honey and tea lingering on his tongue. He felt at peace at this every moment, this would be a perfect way to calm his nerves, so he could start writing back to the villages in the kingdom on their concerns. Maybe, just maybe, this wouldn't be such a dreadful day: if he had faith… which were most likely his famous last words…
The training grounds which were once filled with soft giggles: were now booming with groans and pants. Each Silver Knight was fighting with another ally, practicing their skills and pushing themselves to the max. Sweat dripped down their faces, falling on their glistening silver armour. The sound of silver against silver: a battle song to the sound of their ears. Some groaned, some laughed, some were having the time of their life fighting their allies. This was just the first rotation of their daily training, this was barely a warm-up for them. Most of them were not even tired at all, simply making a show for the rest. It was all calm, even with noise coming from there. All in perfect order and condition. Yet one of them wasn't exactly fitting this description…
Mercurial Knight was training one of the newest silver knights, trying to show him new skills and movements. But his usual grace and swift movements became sloppy and almost messy.. some of the nearby silver knights side eyed him: they were used to seeing him do perfect attacks with zero effort. But today, he was the total opposite, and it caused tension. “Commander sir.. are you going easy on me? Please offer me a challenge!” The Silver Knight scoffed as he pushed his sword against his commander. He was a young man with soft features yet he was known for being loud, he was young and naive: the knights usually said, soon that would change. However, Mercurial Knight clenched his teeth, his arms shaking ever so slightly as he held his glaive forward. “I'm not..” he huffed out, his voice low and out of breath. He would not dare to be shamed by his silver knights, not in a million years would he let them watch and crumble. He was their top commander and he needed to be the perfect embodiment of a true silver knight, which was always his goal. He pushed his glaive forward to the young knight: trying to gain some space for himself. His hair was usually so neat and in place: was now ever so slightly dripping and drooping. Was he being beaten by a young knight? There is no absolute way that this is happening right now.
The young knight stepped backward, letting his commander but for a moment of rest. His concern came in as he saw the wasted look on Mercurial Knight’s face. Everything neat about him was now a total mess, this was a big deal. At this point, the other knights were whispering to each other in concern. Seeing such a shocking sight was something that one could never see in probably years. Yet despite their genuine concern for their commander, none of them dared to even ask what was wrong with him. They didn’t want to get their head chopped off by him, so all of them just stared while their fight kept going. “You are doing well, young knight..” Mercurial Knight spoke out, running a hand through his hair, the sweat that he was producing was too much. He hasn’t remembered the last time he was fully wet of just pure sweat. “Let us keep going because our training has yet to fully begin..” He boomed out, his eyes heavy but fierce on his target. The young knight only gave him a crooked smile, his eyes looking up and down at his commander. Worry flashed his face now and then.
Mercurial Knight stepped back, positioning himself for his attack, his calloused hands holding his glaive tightly. His whole body was moving in unison trying to get the right pose. But as soon as he thought he had mastered the right movement, as if this was a movie: he felt a jolt of pain rush through his spine. His mercury eyes widen at the sudden feeling going through him. His muscles felt like they had lost their senses, his legs now trembling. His hands suddenly dropped his silver glavie, making a loud crash as it hit the ground. The sound of silver and the earth made Mercurial Knight’s head spin: his sight was blurry, and he was struggling to stand straight. Soon he saw himself stumbling backwards, then forward as if he were spinning in circles for hours.
From all of this happening all so suddenly: every single silver knight present was watching their loyal commander with eyes of utter shock. They couldn’t believe their eyes.. What was happening to Mercurial Knight? Never in the number of years have they ever seen the very Mercurial Knight stumble and groan. Yet before any of the knights could even ask what the helly was going on: Mercurial Knight fell. He fell. THE Mercurial Knight fell on the ground. An ungraceful fall from behind, his armour rasping the ground below, his eyes shut, closed with a displeased expression that could make anyone’s jaw drop.
…
“HE PASSED OUT!?” one knight yelled with fear dripping in his voice as he ran to Mercurial Knight’s body. “Mercurial Knight! Commander sir..!!” another one whispered as he knelt, shaking his shoulder softly. “No no no no no no no no this cannot be true..” an older knight said, his voice breathy as he looked over the unconscious commander in silver armour. “HE’S DEAD. NO ABSOLUTELY NOT!! HIS DEAD I TELL YOU,” another one, who was known for his loud voice: cried out. Burying his face into his hands as he began to weep. “PENDEJO! (STUPID!) He’s not dead! .. we need to call for his Majesty..! Now! pero rapidito!!!” (but fast!!!) The tallest knight barked out, seeing that the shocked chatter and cries of these knights were embarrassing for the kingdom. The Silver Knights were the very and only army of the Silver kingdom. They were the embodiment of the culture of faeries and magic. All of these knights were known for being stoic and calm in times of danger. Yet look at this, suddenly they were a worrying bunch as soon as their head commander was on the ground unconscious: todos como gallinas descabezadas, todos locos y asustados. (all like headless chickens, all crazy and scared)
Even when some of the knights were already tweaking out, some called for messengers to spread the word: some even went inside the palace to go and inform his majesty and others for once and for all. Still in the whirlwind of chaos, many insisted they needed to tell Elder Faerie and the rest formally and gently, yet the faces and actions of the nurses as they entered the training grounds said otherwise…
Elder Faerie: currently sat in his chambers. His hand moved in a graceful flow as he wrote on a thin sheet of paper. The pen worked effortlessly as it swayed with each movement of the butterfly's fingers. This was one of the many tasks he enjoyed but only a bit, sitting in his place of comfort while writing whatever came to mind for a response: it was a good way to mentally prepare himself for whatever he had to do next. The window above his desk showed a soft grey glow, adding to the vibe of comfort. He was at peace for now, and he was enjoying all that it had to offer, quite literally what could go wrong right now? Dijo el dormido de Elder Faerie. (Said the sleepy of Elder Faerie)
“YOUR MAJESTY! YOUR MAJESTY, ELDER FAERIE!!” Suddenly out of the literal blue, a Silver Knight swung open the door, his voice a fearful yell. What in the name of silver was going on.? Elder Faerie quickly stood and turned to the knight, whose face was shimmering in sweat, a fearful expression stuck on his face that made Elder Faerie gulp. “What is the meaning of this?” Elder Faerie, his natural facial expression still glued, stepped forward to the knight: now neglecting the letter and pen. The knight in response bowed his head, his breaths heavy as he spoke. “Your majesty, Commander Mercurial Knight, has passed out on the training ground.. uhm… he is currently resting in one of the medical rooms, my king.” He spoke in a hard tone, his head down the whole time. At least he had remembered the ‘gentle’ part of the news…sort of..
Upon hearing such news, Elder Faerie's eyes widened in shock. He passed out? What.. this simply couldn't be… He felt his heart drop to his feet, what exactly did Mercurial Knight do to reach such levels? Will he be okay or injured for the rest of his life? Elder Faerie hummed as he thought hard, his serene nature breaking ever so slightly. “My silver knight, please take me to where he lies. I need to see him.” He told the knight in front of him, a newfound seriousness in his voice. This was something beyond serious. He need not be so open now. He knew exactly what he would do, a plan already arranged in these few minutes. The knight who was already standing straight and tall, simply nodded. Swaying in one big turn before leading his king, his wings behind twitching ever so slightly as they continued their walk.
Mercurial Knight laid on one of the medical beds. His body was stiff, and his face was emotionless as always. A few silver knights surrounded his bed, all of them staring at their commander, a stressful aura coming from the bunch. Nurses paced in and out of the room, rushing from different places as they offered all sorts of things to the commander. Yet to the looks of everyone: he was simply in a deep slumber: they would have to wait until he woke up. Soon enough, Elder Faerie and the knight stood at the front door. As soon as they saw his majesty walk into the room: everyone held their breath. The room that was already silent enough now felt like an anechoic chamber. No one had the slightest idea of how Elder Faerie would react to his most trusted silver knight, now being so vulnerable from his lack of rest. “What exactly happened to him?” Elder Faerie spoke as he knelt to the commander’s bedside, resting his arm on the mattress. A young nurse, who was currently pouring hot water into a glass: quickly turned at hearing that voice. “It seemed he passed out due to extreme exhaustion. His body simply couldn't keep up like he usually did. Gladly, that seems to be the only reason. We think a few days of rest for the commander would be enough to have him on his feet again.” the healer stated, her voice calm and formal, her hands neatly resting on her stomach. As she proceeded to explain more, everyone in the room faced her, listening to every detail that could be important for future notice.
Mercurial Knight’s face twitched a bit as his eyes finally fluttered open. He felt horrible: he felt as if he had the worst hangover known to mankind. What exactly is going on here? His eyes opened fully, now taking in the stillness of the room. He saw the cream colored ceiling: the Silver fan right in the middle moving at a steady pace. There was no way.. he was in one of the infirmary rooms..!? He heard the chatter of the nurse: he darted his eyes to look at this right without moving his head, he saw his silver knight all listening attentively to what the royal healer was speaking about. He needed to act like he was still unconscious: that was his first thought. He wouldn’t dare to speak to anyone in the state he was in. This was utterly ridiculous, he could act awake once everyone in the castle was asleep. Quickly, he shut his eyes, wisely acting dead as he felt the eyes of everyone on him once again.
“Mhm. I see. Thank you, young lady. I am sure he will be okay for now, we will see in the morning.” Elder Faerie added, his eyes slowly looking down to gaze at the commander’s face. The silver knights who could probably be considered statues at this point, only watched from a distance. They shared equally scared glances at one another: none of them wanted to upset their majesty or their sleeping commander.. Elder Faerie sighed, a sound that seemed rather annoyed: something so foreign within his usual serene appearance. His eyes locked on the knight before him. “Mercurial Knight…” he whispered, his voice lingering on Mercurial Knight’s ear, all while the rest watched. “You fool . Such a foolish man you became.” Woah, woah woah, whaaaa??? The Silver Knights felt their jaws drop to the ground: even if they all wore helmets. Was this real? Was Elder Faerie actually scolding Mercurial Knight!? Never in a thousand years would they expect this, nuh uh absolutely not. Despite the obvious tension now built up: the Faerie King's mouth kept going. “You should've told me, or anyone. This is a disgrace to the young men you train. This.. simply can't and won't go on. From now on, I want you to lie here until I say so. Do you understand, commander?” He scolded in his usual soft voice, his face leaning close to Mercurial Knight’s ear. A gentle threat that felt like a million knives were stabbed in your soul.
“And you knights,” The butterfly stood up quickly, his hair swaying as he looked around the knights. “Yes, your majesty!” All of the knights said in perfect unison, standing straight and ready for any command. “You may resume your daily training without your trusted commander. He will be in good hands, worry not, and keep the hard work. I order you all to go forth, for this room will be busy.” Elder Faerie commanded: his voice firm as he darted his eyes at every single knight. All attentive, listening closely to their ruler. “Yes, your majesty!” All of them repeated once more before scurrying out of the room, the bunch pushing one another as they all tried to leave at the same time. But a king's command is a top command: soon in the blink of an eye: they were all gone, even the healer. Leaving the room now as lonely as it was to begin with.
Elder Faerie shook his head. This situation felt like a well-made social experiment he needed to pass, yet he knew he would have to lock in for his knight: who struggles to maintain his health. His hand reached out to the white sheet covering the mercury knight underneath, bringing it up to his neck: his movement slow and delicate. “I know you can hear me, no te hagas el pendejo. (Don’t act like the stupid one.) I’ll be back my knight. Just give me a moment..” The king’s hand moved from side to side as he spoke, rubbing the soft fabric. All before standing straight and leaving the room.
As soon as the steps of the Faerie king were gone, Mercurial Knight shot up. He sat up, his breath heavy as he looked around. He used to always see sick patients being taken into this room, but he never expected to see himself being laid here, ever. He saw the medical tools he would always stare at, the flowers which were changed weekly, and the clock that could crumble any day now.. He looked through the window at his left: which was almost as big as the wall. The sky seemed dimmer than in the morning, which only meant it was probably afternoon. Gosh, did it take that long for them to attend to him? Yet.. he remembered the whispers of his king… Would his king keep his words? Would he have to spend the next week or maybe even weeks.. Being treated like a newborn baby? The sheer thought of not training in a day made him shiver, he was the most important knight here.. he needed to train daily. Slouching off was not an option for a man like him. He can’t just lie there all day and not do anything, he needed to be on his feet but now .
Mercurial Knight threw the covers off of him, revealing his silver armour once more. He moved swiftly and quickly, his boots making a rather loud clang as they met the marble floor. Yet, as he tried to stand up: his knees wobbled and the same sharp pain shot back up his spine. Eliciting a low groan from his mouth, he would always bear any type of pain, but this reaction from simply standing up made him frown. But his pride was more than that, he would do anything to keep his title as the commander. Even if it meant hurting himself in the procedure. He stood now, a hand placed on the bed for support as he walked slowly. Small, steady, steps that would be enough for him to ignore the pain. Plus, the important thing was that he was walking forward: making progress nonetheless. He walked further, the support on the bed now gone, only having himself to balance and walk. This whole scene could make anyone think the Silver Kingdom is weak. C'mon yo.. the head commander out here struggling to walk after passing out? Embarrassing! A total disgrace I tell you! Soon he was leaning against the door frame, his side pressed firmly on the side as he fixed his posture. Now he would need to walk all the way to his personal chambers: all while walking and acting nonchalant the WHOLE time. Impossible edition. Mercurial Knight sighed to himself, mentally and physically preparing himself for what he was about to do.
Yet before he could take a step, a loud gasp was heard to his left. His eyebrow furrowed tightly, moving his face in a slow and almost dramatic manner. Just as he had expected: his eyes locked in with his majesty’s. Elder Faerie was there. Holding a clear tea cup with butterfly patterns, his jaw dropped as he stood stiff. His facial expression looked as if someone had betrayed the entire kingdom right there and then. The mere sight of his dear silver knight pathetically standing up, made his soft lips twitch. “Commander of the Silver Knights, Mercurial Knight!” Elder Faerie almost yelled, his face stiff with genuine annoyance. “What in the name of silver are you doing standing up!?” He groaned as he approached the hopeless knight: bringing one of his arms around his neck for support, now having the commander walk the shame back to his bed. Despite his king's genuinely serious manner, he kept his mouth shut. This was beyond embarrassing for him. He just got caught by his king bro. He had done other things that if Elder Faerie knew about: he would be ripping his hair off, yet by his wisdom the faerie king never found out.
Yet here he was now being tucked back into the bed of the weak. “Me tienes que hacer caso.” (You need to listen to me.) The Faerie King whispered now, his anger now dissolving into worry for the man before him. “I don't want to see you like this, do you understand? Just for that, we'll keep you here for at least 2 weeks if not more. So the sooner you start to listen, the quicker you will be able to leave.” The last part of his statement was said firmly with no hesitation in his voice. Almost as if he were stating a fact of high importance. Still, Mercurial Knight only stared. His brain thought of many responses to his king's words, but his mouth refused to open or even utter a word. This whole conversation and even situation: was overwhelming him by the minute. By far, this might be one of the worst days of his Faerie life. Elder Faerie only nodded, seeing the emotions behind those mercury eyes. “I'll leave this tea here. I'd better see this cup finished once I am back, me escuchas?” (You hear?) He added as he stood and placed the delicate cup on the nightstand. The marigold colored liquid swaying as it was placed on the corner, an alluring scene to the knight's dry mouth. Soon the butterfly was already gone from the room. Even if he was gone: his presence still felt near. He was tweaking out.
Still… Mercurial Knight was soon swimming in his thoughts, which were now all dominated by the king. Something about the genuine concern from his dear king made him.. feel warm? Did it make him smile? Woah, woah what? Was he being serious? Mercurial Knight groaned at himself for such a thought, yet he couldn't lie to himself… Seeing how Elder Faerie was worried for HIM, made his chest grow warm. Ugh, this was too corny. Maybe it's just exhaustion, that's all. Those were the words that kept him sane for now. Perchance once tomorrow strikes he'll be better. It was already growing late by the second, so he had better finish the tea, y luego a mimir todo la noche hasta ver que hora. (And then sleep all night, until whatever hour.)
And it was just like he thought. For the next few hours before night struck: only a few royal healers had visited him. Offering stuff, and checking his well-being for now. Other than that, he got to enjoy his alone time with the tea that his king made. It was a nice way to reflect on the day. He promised himself he would start to give and take care of himself soon. That way he could be on the battlefields in no time! Yes, that was his plan. Simple but effective. He would stand by this until the 2 weeks passed. His lips slightly twitched at this thought, a smile ghosting his face, even if he was half asleep already. He needed rest, that was key. Entonces más vale que ya se duerma. (So he better sleep now.) And so he did: getting in a comfortable position before letting his eyes close: now entering a calming, deep slumber.
And so it was like Elder Faerie said. The next days–which immediately started with Elder Faerie declaring his break: had now started. The morning for Mercurial Knight was good, to say the least. He felt better than yesterday: which made him have some sort of hope. Even if yesterday was his total breaking point, he knew who would have to advance, if he truly wanted to leave sooner.
The morning consisted of two healers coming in for a simple check-up. One healer, an older man, asked him questions about how he felt, all while doing his check-ups physically. The other one was a young man, who offered him the commander’s breakfast. A tall glass of orange juice, while the plate next to it possessed a finely cooked egg. Finally, all accompanied by an abnormally large green apple. (Shout out to the massive apple I saw today you got put into a fanfic ❤️🩹) The mercury Faerie only requested to be put on his nightstand. Despite the genuine jump scare they gave Mercurial Knight, it was peace from there. He had finished at least one-fourth of his OJ, only taking a small bite into the golden egg: y ni hablemos de la manzana. (And don't even talk about the apple.)
Yet it wasn’t his fault that he refused to eat. He would never have breakfast. Never. The first thing that came to mind as soon as he woke, was to head to the training grounds. None of this ‘breakfast' thing would help him slay a dragon yo. So just the sensation of eating first thing in the morning, instead of working his body felt like he was sinning. Y pero eso no es todo, (but that's not all,) every start of the morning felt like he was suddenly living in another world. Nothing felt normal. His own sweet, cherished homeland was starting to feel like a foreign land. This alone made him worry further.. Maybe this whole ‘taking care of myself’ would be harder than expected. Luckily, before Mercurial Knight’s mind could start spiraling more: a recognizing voice was heard once more:
“Buenos días, (Good morning,) my commander.” There he was again. Elder Faerie. He approached the commander with soft steps, his smile now softer than yesterday. His pale silver eyes lingered on the knight's face: as if he were awaiting a smile. “Good Morning, Your Majesty.” Mercurial Knight responded dryly back, lowering his head to mimic a bow. His eyes locked respectfully with his king: who only smiled back. “Tell me, commander, are you feeling better now?” The king asked rather quickly, his frame casting a shadow as he awaited an answer. He seemed to be eager in a way, the way he got to the question so fast was rather odd. He was happy, yes, yet he also seemed pressured… “I am well, your majesty, thank you. Two healers have visited me. One made sure I was well, and the other offered my breakfast, sir.” He spoke firmly once more, his eyes never leaving Elder Faerie's face. Each movement, each sway made, his eyes followed.
As Mercurial Knight mentioned breakfast, the faerie king's eyes darted to the nightstand next to him. The neglected breakfast almost cried out to him, seeing this made his soft face hardened once more. “Mercurial Knight. Why haven't you finished this well-prepared breakfast? I told you. You need to take care of yourself.” Elder Faerie's words were sharp as he picked up the glass, which still held a bunch of OJ. He practically shoved it in Mercurial Knight’s hand: who simply just held it staring at him. Swiftly, Elder Faerie had brought a chair next to the bed. He sat down quickly before taking the plate in his hand. The other reached for the fork, and soon he was cutting the egg into small pieces: all before sticking a piece into the fork. And there it was. Almost in a mocking tone: Elder Faerie leaned the fork towards Mercurial Knight, who looked at the commander bewildered.. “Say ‘ahh’, commander. If you aren't gonna eat, then I'll make you.” Oh nah, this must be a dream. The ruler of the Silver kingdom: feeding the head commander his breakfast? Is this AI-generated? Mercurial Knight’s face flushed a soft pink.. this was unexpected and hella EMBARRASSING… This whole scene was a joke. Even if HE thought that, the seriousness in Elder Faerie's eyes spoke louder. Could he really refuse his king like that?
And so, slowly and shakily, Mercurial Knight leaned in more. His teeth met the silver fork, taking the piece of egg into his mouth as he backed away. Mercurial Knight’s embarrassment and his submission made Elder Faerie smile once more. He knew he had him in his grasp, and oh was he enjoying this moment. He kept going, even going as if he were offering a fork airplane. The smile that was stuck on his face the whole time: truly spoke of his entertainment in this moment. This would surely be a cherished memory for now. Mercurial Knight still found himself tweaking out over this whole thing, yet he still gave in and ate as his king had commanded. Little did he know, this would only be the start of his eternal embarrassment.
Before he knew it: he had already finished his breakfast in no time. The glass was not empty, and the plate was almost wiped. Mercurial Knight’s face remained the soft pink as he saw the content vibe from his king. “See? It wasn't so hard. You just need a helping hand, that's all.” Elder Faerie mumbled as he placed the plate back in the tray. Taking the orange stained glass as well: everything is now back into the tray like it was originally. The king held the tray, his delicate hands firmly holding the sides. “Well, commander, I fear I have some things to do. I must take my leave now. Take care and listen to the nurses, for I will be back as soon as I can.” He explained carefully, his tone now more natural than formal. His lips usually always neutral, now seemed to curl into a smirk now and then. An action-only the true stoic commander: who took in every moment of the guardian could truly see. “Yes, your majesty. I will be fine.” Mercurial Knight followed right after the sentence was finished, he already knew his king was a busy man. He wouldn’t dare to question his king ever. Plus, he certainly doesn't want to be personally fed again… “Very well. Take care.” Once again like always: the Faerie king was gone in the blink of an eye. The neglected apple and the faint scent of lavender were a small testament to his presence. Yet little did he know that it would continue for the next 2 weeks and beyond…
After that embarrassing encounter. It only escalated from there. Elder Faerie went back to back with spoonfeeding everything. Every time he would visit him: and see any type of unfinished food.. ahi estaba sentado, listo para darle de comer. (There he was sitting, ready to give him something to eat.) He would even bring in his own personal meals! Un caldito de pollo, una sopita aguada, lo que sea. Just to feed him personally, and make sure he would be eating well. Yet that wasn’t the best part. The realization that Elder Faerie noticed soon, was that Mercurial Knight was in fact, starting to accept this new habit. With each meal that Elder Faerie offered him: he ate at his own pace, all while not pushing the faerie king away. Seeing that only pushed him further, simply seeing how the knight was adaptable than expected, brought him more confidence. And it was as said.
One night, Mercurial Knight had a calm day for once. Three days had passed since the passing out incident, but he was soon starting to pass that away. The sky was a gorgeous dark blue, indicating it was nighttime. They had changed his bed sheet to fresher ones, making the commander prepare for a good night's slumber. Yet before he could fully close his eyes, he heard the rustle of someone walking. The sound was so faint yet he heard it. He sat up quickly out of pure curiosity, or even to brace himself. What if an intruder got in and he would need to box it out with them? You never know, yo.
Though soon, the figure making the sound revealed itself. And as everyone reading this expects.. yes it's goddamn Elder Faerie. He tilted his head to look at the commander, the rest of his body hidden on the other side. Mercurial Knight saw the familiar silhouette: the recognizable pale lavender hair that swayed as his head moved. “Psst, psst estas despierto..?” (Are you awake?) He loudly whispered as he finally locked eyes with the knight, who only sighed in relief. “Yes, my king. I haven't fallen asleep yet.” Mercurial Knight responded in a whisper tone as well, nodding to show the king was here to enter. Elder Faerie: happy with his response and actions took no time to allow himself to waltz right in. He walked in swiftly: closing the door behind as he moved further to Mercurial Knight’s bed. Yet the knight's eye almost twitched as he saw his king's clothing at the moment. First of all, his hair was all loose. No ponytail, no hair tufts, just his hair down: Almost if not reaching below his hips. And there. He wore a grey, silk sleeping robe that dragged on the floor with his butterfly wings. Oh my gosh. For clarification, both of the men have never really seen each other in casual clothing and even less in sleeping clothes. So this sight was rather interesting for the silver knight. Still, if he was COMPLETELY BRUTALLY honest.. his king looked dumb in those robes. Don’t get him wrong, he loves his king deeply: and that includes everything else that his king does. Yet seeing the powerful monarch of his homeland, all tired and in a rather feminine robe: it was peak humor in his eyes.
“I was almost worried that I would wake you up, Commander.” Elder Faerie commented as he sat on the edge of his bed: his weight barely making a difference. “Worry not. I struggle to sleep, if I am asleep in times like this feel free to wake me up.” Mercurial Knight added back rather quickly, his reassuring word only a bluff. He didn't ACTUALLY want to be woken up every time something happened. It was simply a sweet bluff of reassurance from his hard heart. “Ay no, no te la creas, tienes que dormir, es lo más importante, because you know like….” (Nah, don't believe it, you need to sleep. That's the most important,) There was once again. Yap, yap, yap. Sure, Mercurial Knight did understand what his king said PLUS genuinely listen to his rants and all.. but ever since he fell sick: his yaps felt daily now.
He wasn't gonna lie right now. He felt wayyyy too tired to genuinely engross himself in whatever the faerie in front of him had to say. He simply wanted his well-deserved rest from the day, just to close his eyes and relax his whole body. He just stared at Elder Faerie, only nodding when he wanted a response from him. His eyes just stared at him while he let his mind wander what he could eat tomorrow.. Even so, Elder Faerie still managed to sense the boredom coming from his most trusted knight. He knew when he was paying attention, and when he showed interest in something. The king cared for this knight deeply, Do you think he wouldn't know the difference? Elder Faerie pouted slightly as he saw the dumb stare he was getting, this was low-key pissing him off but Mercurial Knight was the vulnerable one right now, he wouldn't dare. Suddenly, Elder Faerie adjusted himself with Mercurial Knight. He lay down next to him slowly: lying on his side to face the knight, his wings folding behind him in pure grace. Getting himself comfortable as he watched for Mercurial Knight’s reaction.
The knight's eyes widen further now. The king's actions were slow yet the genuine actions were the reason for his surprise. Elder Faerie wasn’t under the sheets or nothing. He simply lay there, facing him, watching him, now that was enough to make the commander of the silver knights start to panic. “So, you truly aren't tired yet, Commander?” The faerie king started as soon as he saw the commander side-eye him in shock. Who only shook his head in response, he would have to proceed this all over again at least 14 more times, all before he could form a formal sentence for him to blurt out. Again, Elder Faerie saw and almost just felt the knight's feelings of shock. This was beyond entertaining for him. He giggled softly at his response, finding it hilarious. He just wants to bring comfort to his silver knight, and even the knight himself knows that as well. Nothing of this would harm anything in their well-trusted relationship, making the experience delightful instead of shameful. “Here, I'll tell you a bedtime story. One I know every single word of. In order for you to sleep como un niñito chiquito, todo bonito.” (Like a little, small boy, all cute.) The faerie king joked as a small smirk played on his lips. This whole thing even made him rethink, and just see how he hasn't tried to do this back when he was better. Though Mercurial Knight only mumbled an incoherent response, mostly his cry for help at once. But there was Elder Faerie always blabbering on his story.
At this point in time, there was no point in trying to stop the butterfly from talking. He wouldn’t stop until he 101% finished his story. A few minutes had already passed, and this story seemed like it had no end to it whatsoever. So Mercurial Knight pulled another dead one on his king… he closed his eyes calmly, even breathing heavily as if he were in a deep sleeping spell. He planned to simply act dead until his king left, then he would for real start his sleeping ritual. He stood still like that for a good 10+ minutes: his face was almost beautifully calm. So it didn't take long for Elder Faerie himself to see. He quickly stopped talking as he glanced directly at Mercurial Knight. Thank the cookie heavens above because as soon as he laid eyes on his calm expression: he genuinely believed he had passed out. A faint smile graced his lips at the pure sight in front of him. The commander even felt the very sight of his king, lingering around his face as he heard softer laughs. Mercurial Knight was crashing out inside. He couldn't tell if Elder Faerie was making fun of him for his lie, or that he had believed it. He even started sweating under the sheets.. he just wanted to sleep well bru.
Just as Mercurial Knight was gonna tweak out beyond normal standards: he felt something lay on his chest.. then something else that cuddled his shoulder. He stiffened at the feeling, he wanted to open his eyes SO badly right now.. and just see what was happening. But he knows better than that. He would have to wait until morning, or at least when he heard his king leave… “Goodnight, my knight. Sleep well…” The voice of his king was faint and heavy, his breath tickling his neck. The thing on his chest squeezed him softly, y ya quedo dormido la hada. (And left the faerie asleep) Quickly the knowledge spread into him. His dear king had his arm around him.. and he had buried his head into HIS shoulder. There was no way, again for the 67th time. Yettt!! Instead of his usual tweak out.. it was simply too late right now.. everyone in the kingdom was probably snoring by now. He was beyond tired to even care anymore. He let his body loosen up, letting himself give in to the sleepiness. And maybe he was honest with himself..AGAIN… the warm embrace that Elder Faerie was giving him.. definitely made him feel at true peace. It made his eyes close faster, and he grew the same comforting warmth in his chest from the other times. So he left it like that, all until tomorrow.
Now that experience was rather peaceful for him to comprehend.. yet it still bothered him on how that specific night: when he woke. His king was nowhere to be found. He wasn't laid there with him. Nuh uh, just gone like that. Leaving the comforting scent of lavender lingering on his pillow…Something that made his wings twitch. But literally whatever.. he had to worry about other things of actual high importance. And not worry about how Elder Faerie was lazing off. Well.. he might very jinxed himself on that one. Another three more days had passed: and it felt as if Elder Faerie's care grew by each visit he paid his commander. His king spoonfeeding him everything was now a routine, and every afternoon or nighttime visit included him laying in bed with him. Sometimes he would even bring a scroll to read to him, or even read letters he would get. Yet, this whole free time thing was a rather big shift within the busy Faerie. A king who barely had time to even water his plants: soon became a nurse moderating his room 24/7. Which only meant one thing. He started to neglect his kingly duties. Now really, maybe this didn't seem so bad you know.. they weren't suffering from anything and instead in an era of success. But a king neglects duties? Cmon that's almost blasphemous. Obviously, Mercurial Knight who was practically made from duties noticed almost immediately.
One afternoon, as Elder Faerie was feeding him una sopa aguada, which he made himself.. Mercurial Knight took the opportunity to confront the man before him. “Your majesty.” Mercurial Knight called out, his voice raspy as his eyes laid on the king's frame. They hadn't started a conversation at all during this feeding time, so the voice of Mercurial Knight calling out the king's title definitely caught his attention. “What's wrong, my silver knight?” Elder Faerie hummed out as he prepared another full spoon, the warm bowl was now empty: that itself being a trophy in the king's heart. Anyway, Mercurial Knight took no time to confront him, every one of his words sharp as his glaive. “I've noticed you are starting to be careless about your duties. It worries me, your majesty. Being king of a kingdom is not a joke.” Elder Faerie's eyes widened greatly as he heard his knight speak. This might be the most he had spoken ever since he passed out and look where he chose to use his words. Tsk tsk tsk he got some nerves. Despite the jaw dropping choice of words coming from the commander.. it only brought the faerie king to give him a small smile. He stood silent for a moment, his smile ever present now. Carefully, he put the spoon and bowl to the side. The commander’s statement really tapped something in him: and Mercurial Knight noticed. He saw how Elder Faerie put his well deserved food away, resting his hands on the mattress he laid on. A wave of anxiety almost washed upon him, was he maybe too harsh? He was now deadly scared of what the butterfly would possibly say in return, he braced himself further as he heard him talk once more. “Ah, my dear dear commander. You are quite silly sometimes, huh?” He started briefly, giving the knight in bed the most friendliest glare ever. But as always, the knight only stared back. His king's whims were sometimes too wild, he wouldn't speak until he sensed the true intentions of his king. “Listen, I know my place as king. I have for eons. Yet you must also know that being king requires taking care of his subjects, or is it not? And this is no different. Your health right now is beyond important for me, commander." The last part of his sentence had more warmth than the others, his hand going up to rustle his hair, the smile never faltering.
The commander kept his stare, but now with a sense of embarrassment. He wouldn’t ever talk back to his king, but even if he wanted to currently: he simply couldn't. He wanted to scold his king, and get him to work like he used to, but it was practically useless. Especially when his counterpart was literally “I care more about you than my entire kingdom.” So what was there to even argue with.. Elder Faerie, now in a joyous mood, smiled further at seeing his knight's mental response. Quickly he took back the bowl in his hand: forcing the last two airplanes into the commander’s mouth. All while knowing he had managed to quiet his bodyguard. Soon as he swallowed the last spoonful, Elder Faerie stood tall again. “Yet sometimes you are right, my knight. Since you wish to see me work, I will head right now, since I have spent time with you, no?” Mercurial Knight could tell that statement was a joke. It was clear as day. It was an attempt for him to beg his king not go. So he added on to his 20 layers of nonchalantness. “Yes, yes. I wish to not waste your time, I am fine. Thank you.. my majesty.” Huh. ‘My majesty,’ That was a new one, and it was music to the king's ears. “Of course. Excuse me. I'll see when I get the chance to come back. Farewell well my beloved mercury faerie.” He obviously exaggerated the nickname as he ran outta the room, his wings reflecting patterns on the ceiling as they swayed with him.
Gosh. That Faerie would be the total end of him. His affection was surprising and almost dramatic. But he knew deep down he was starting to open up and even enjoy it.. this wasn't supposed to happen all. He didn't agree to this when he promised good health to his king. Yet here he was, turning more pink after his majesty called him the most corny nickname ever… Especially his scent. He hated how it would always linger around his room. It was ALWAYS present in the infirmary room.. the delicate, soft, comforting delicious smell of lavender and sun always clinged onto him. And sure.. maybe this description almost seems as if he actually enjoyed the smell.. and that he preferred the scent to be with him at all times uuhhhmm… yeah… maybe this isn't as expected at all. Nothing. But he knew this thing with the king was not normal and most definitely there.. *wink wink*
Anywho, the first week of Mercurial Knight’s break had finally passed. And he came out of it alive, yet still in need of rest. He did make great progress according to the healers, yet knowing how the commander would head to training.. err it was best to wait longer. Entonces bien que digo Elder Faerie de las dos semanas, (so good that Elder Faerie said about the two weeks) a good guess for the commander’s sake. Mercurial Knight, as much as he didn't want to admit it. He did think that perhaps he was in fact getting better all thanks to the unwavering affection from his king. But he wouldn’t dare to say such shameful words out loud. They would be stored into his head, all until his last breath. And so, as expected, as every counter that would leave him flushed: it became a habit. The king slowly but very surely, soon went on to decline and he due to everything he had in that week. Which is where a place that was built by people of high class: everyone noticed that something was wrong. Their serene ruler, always so attentive with their kingdom: now lazing off? This almost felt like a sign the world would end soon. Really, something as crazy as this: it wouldn't take long for them to find the root of the cause. But obviously.. It was rather easy and not even surprising when they saw the true cause of his neglecting the kingdom. It was that quiet commander who rarely even spoke a word. Most explanations came from the nurses, who would be in the infirmary everyday of their lives: obviously saw the change soon enough. Yet this hadn't become a full blown chisme..yet… Probably because the palace started seeing more silver knights wander then and there..
Yet the faint word of it, simply lingered around the bystanders in the palace. It was almost like codewords for them alone. Yet, while that group was too busy chismeando, (gossiping) the others who did in fact relied on the king: were now tweaking out. Elder Faerie had delayed one to many things and left many unsigned paperwork to rot in his room. So this brought fear to their faces. Some gave a small, yet obvious cry for help. And some even just straight up begged the faerie king to lock in. In the state that everything was in, it felt as if the royal court could crumble any day now. Which brought new fears. Now this new quiet crisis rising in Elder Faerie's territory: this would easily reach his ears. Now, he will admit. That him not taking proper care of his kingdom did haunt him everyday, so once he had learned of his whole panic: he knew he had to act. Pero todavía.. (But still..) Who would be there for his dear commander? What if with his absence he would get worse? All of this going on at the same time made his head spin, making me walk the shame into the kitchen: for his third tea in the day…
But he did think hard. All while chugging his tea of course. He now cared deeply for his knight in bed, way more, more than his own sanity. But he was smarter to not be blinded by love. This was his beloved kingdom he founded, this was top priority at all times. So he went with his kingly duties once more. Good choice he thought, and maybe everyone else. He made a plan to take three days of work and nursing for Mercurial Knight. One activity was him attending a few delayed meetings, but afterwards he would be in the infirmary room once again.. Yett!! Doing his paperwork with the knight.. so it counts… Even Mercurial Knight noticed how his king would go in and out every now and then. All coming back with new things to take care of. A part of him was genuinely happy that Elder Faerie was facing his duties once more. But still, another part of him was now even a bit bothered on how he wasn't receiving the same amount of ‘over the top’ affection. But whatever, you know.. what truly mattered in these times was his king doing his respective duties, and him getting better so he could leave soon. Yes, that was number one on the list.
But of course, this whole leaving and coming back rotation obviously came with a twist, claro. (Of course) You see, Mercurial Knight would force himself to sleep when Elder Faerie was busy. Or maybe even being attended by a nurse while his king wouldn't even bat an eye at him. At first he found little notes on the very first day of this work thing. Nothing important.. small notes that would just say “In library.” And sure, it was nice to know. Yet with the two more days of rotations, and even after Elder Faerie's work grind! Mercurial Knight would find neatly folded notes, placed on his chest, under his pillow or simply in his nightstand. They would scare him at how they would just spawn there. Outta nowhere. But!! There was always a but.. as the days progressed they were sweeter.. They spoke comforting words that he could hear Elder Faerie's voice saying. “ Thinking about you even in my meeting, sleep well.♡ - E ”, “ I care by the way. I will be back soon. Keep calm. - E ” These small notes made the commander's face flush madly. He didn't really expect such sweet nothings, yet he would be a liar if he said that didn’t make him smile. It made something within him stir, each word truly went beyond the intention. He was ashamed to say that he was in fact enjoying the attention. Soon all of these notes found a way to be stored secretly in his training boots. Which were hidden in his chambers. He would actually consider exploding if his king found his well made stash of these notes…
With this said and all done, all of the situations that have been stated: now were a daily routine for the knight and king. Half way into Mercurial Knight’s last week on his break, at this point he felt like this would go on forever. Now from experience, he knew that after a couple days after a new habit, ya estaba otro para empezar. (There was another one to start.) And just as he stated it did. One that truly caught his heart. The very first encounter he had, was probably the day he was most tired. That morning, it was odd for him. His majesty wasn't there to greet him good morning or anything, he didn't even see him pass by. Even if it was something lowkey light, and maybe something that shouldn't affect him: it sort of did.. de verdad se agüito No lies here. (For real heh) So this obviously brought him to even worry. What if something had happened to him? Surely he wouldn't be all gone in the morning.. it was impossible. The king was always wandering the palace in morning times. Yet he wouldn’t dare ask any healer or nurse where the king was. He needed to be nonchalant always, his reputation was something sacred in his eyes. So he waited and kept quiet, waiting for his king to show up..any day now…
Even with the patience that the commander had: the butterfly never came in. And according to the clock probably older than Elder Faerie.. stated it was now afternoon. Now seeing the missing presence, ahora si que ya se asustó. (Now he is really scared.) His eyes were now glued to the door in front of him: watching everyone pass by to see if he recognized the lovely silhouette of his ruler. Pero nada. (But nothing.) Noting how this and last week's activities were quite interesting: seeing the faerie king not in the infirmary definitely got to him. A few more minutes had passed from him just staring, yet nothing seemed to bring him hope. Seeing how maybe Elder Faerie might've taken a break himself.. Mercurial Knight now forced himself another nap of rest. Just to leave reality, and swim in the ocean of his own dreams and maybe even nightmares… so ahi estaba. El pendejo de Mercurial Knight tratando de mimir por un ratito. (So there he was. The stupid of Mercurial Knight trying to sleep for a little bit.) And since he was used to it, he did fall asleep just as he wanted to.
Seconds were minutes, and minutes soon became hours. He had laid there in a deep trance, with no one to snap him out of it. So he just laid there:.sleeping with peace itself the whole day. At least he had slept the whole day away. Buttt!! To his pleasant, and most definitely shocking surprise: the king had entered his room while in his deep slumber. It was very late by now.. the sun was already setting and faeries were all getting ready to go home and relax, away from their jobs and duties. And Elder Faerie was doing just that. He slowly walked in, his robe dragging on the floor: the only sound of him as he proceeded further. Soon enough, he was looming over the commander. Yet, the commander, ever the attentive, had sensed Elder Faerie as soon as he stood near the door. The soft huffs of the king's breath, a comforting background noise awoke the knight. Yet Elder Faerie didn’t know that. Mercurial Knight kept his eyes completely shut, but inside he was wide awake. He was putting up the same act of sleep once more. Elder Faerie saw how Mercurial Knight’s breath was steady, how his face was calm and the sheets a bit messy. This was the most obvious sign he was dead asleep. Just like the first days of his break. The king laughed under his breath quietly, then a giggle, y llego a chuckle. Mercurial Knight heard all, and he knew that Elder Faerie was most likely making fun of him, yet what would he gain if he revealed that he was, in fact, asleep? Nothing brah. But this time, it did feel harder to fake sleep. His eyes were tired, and were ready to open any moment. But he forced himself, just like he always does huh. The sound of plastic was suddenly heard out of the blue, the faint rustle of it caught the knight off guard. He tried to focus on the sound now. It was a loud rustle that was then placed, which he thought, his nightstand. It was most definitely an object.. and that only meant an object brought by his majesty. The sound itself: you could hear it was being held and placed by human hands. Adjusting the object, and even patting it. Ay dios, what could've Elder Faerie possibly brought him..? The guesses could go on forever, yet he feared his reactions to them weren't so pleasant. The suspense and genuine pain of forcing his eyes close, it was making him almost annoyed now. His once steady breaths were now big gasps. And his serene face now tightened every so slightly as he felt the silver eyes staring at him.
Yet something happened.. something he thought would never EVER happen. A life changing event that could be taken into many different perspectives… Mercurial Knight stiffened further as he suddenly felt Elder Faerie get closer. He felt the warm breath of his king on his cheek, which surprisingly smelt of tea and maybe.. even love? Mhm. This was scaring him. Just the sensation of sharing the same air as the faerie king: made him want to run away from Beast-Yeast. But still, Elder Faerie's presence seemed to grow.. all the way until it made actual contact. He felt a sudden warm touch in his cheek.. then another.. another… and another…. Was he.. being kissed!? WHAT. There was NO absolute way. Even if he didn't want to believe it, it was the truth. Elder Faerie had leaned in, buckering his lips as they met the knight's cheek. He placed two on his cheek, one near his temple.. and another one barely brushing the corner of his lip. Oh holy silver this was all going too fast. Once Elder Faerie gave his fair share of kisses, the sound of him standing up and walking away filled the room. Just like that he felt. As if what he did was in fact ai generated.
This is not for weak guys, no joke. Once Elder Faerie was not heard in a good 10 minutes: Mercurial Knight's shot up. He sat up as quickly as he could. It was already night time. It was hella dark outside, and no one was passing in the usually busy hallways. Yet even when everyone else in the palace were all in the deep spell of sleep, Mercurial Knight was crashing out!! His hand came up into his cheek, his fingers slowly tracing the same places where he got a kiss. The sensation lingered on him heavily.. to him: it felt as if the king's lips were still on him. But still.. yeah yeah he was obviously shocked by this. But really… he felt better.. warmer… happier from that interaction. His body, usually so cold, now was filled with a warmth he quite didn't understand. His heart was always so still, now pounded in his chest lively. Lastly his head that held no major thoughts, now spinned with his heart in harmony. Probably worst of all, was how he was smiling right now. Smiling. Oh my gosh people evacuate. The rapture is coming. He couldn't help it though. It just forced on to him, a small yet genuine smile. Ughhh this would be the end of him.. He shook his head violently, making himself frown and burying his face into his hands. The only thing making him better was knowing no one watched it happen, especially his aftermath crash out. The reaction he had: only he felt and saw. No one else saw.. thank silver.
But oh wait!! The plastic! Right! He heard the plastic, so what the hell was it!? He turned his head to the side, quickly as soon as he remembered it. And there it was. Another shameful thing to cry about. There in his nightstand lay a breath-taking bouquet of red tulips. Being wrapped into a clear bag for protection. They were honestly gorgeous, and also a perfect way to describe how Mercurial Knight looked right now.. he shifted towards the nightstand: his strong hand coming in to snatch the bouquet. He took them carefully in his hands: admiring them and even taking a whiff of these thoughtful flowers. He had to admit, never in his life had he received a bouquet of flowers. Never in his life had he had a gift like this. So seeing that his dear king had gotten out of his way, all in his busy life, to get him these lovely flowers? Something was up and he knew it. Yet for now.. he took them into his arm instead. Laying on his side now, ready for some real genuine sleep. Now with kisses and tulips. And so he laid there, preparing for his slumber. Flowers in arm, and even making sure the kissed cheek was not touching the pillow whatsoever…
At this point in time, the two weeks of break became longer. And it seemed as if the knight was praying that no one else noticed. The notes, the spoonfeeding, the shared warmth of the bed, and the flowers now were a present thing: all day every day. Expect the kissing part.. that was something only Mercurial Knight knew about. Ever since that day, the king hadn't even come close to doing it again. Which really showed the point that the king's intentions were most or were. Platonic. Utterly platonic sure..sure…
So with this daily thing going on out in public: the faeries in the palace had noticed that strange behavior… Even those who never walked past the infirmary saw these new rumors flying around. Yet we can't forget about the nurses. They were the head leader and first ones to get flashed. They saw how each bouquet of flowers randomly appeared near Mercurial Knight. Or how his face would flush an undeniable shade of red as he read one of the notes. They got used to it, yes, but it was to the point where even they started to tease the poor knight. It was even hard to just not. One of the most respected silver knights in THEIR infirmary room, now geeking out over a note? Just how could this not make you laugh? Some older nurses whose eyes shamelessly glared at the knight, would always comment on something. Things like: “Look at yourself. Who knew a silver knight would make the king swoon,” or even simple humorous remarks such as: “Well, well, seems you've bagged the king himself, congrats.” Innocent yet mischievous comments that make the other healer laugh, and the sick knight growl. The whole taking care of himself goal was already embarrassing for Mercurial Knight, so these comments would come out of nowhere: they only made his sanity worse. And even worse knowing how his own knights had probably heard comments like these as well. Once again, he jinxed himself on that too. Someone give this man a mental break, porfa.
It was currently the afternoon exactly. Elder Faerie had already fed him his breakfast: a rich, creamy oatmeal that made his mouth water. With a rather early bouquet and the usual set of notes. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. It felt like the same routine the king and knight had been doing for the past few weeks. Seeing this, it made Mercurial Knight lean back comfortably, he would get to lazy off more, oh yah!!! Or.. well at least he thought. Just as Mercurial Knight was gonna pull up his bedsheets: the sound of knocking shifted in the atmosphere. This was rather odd. No one had really knocked since the first week of his break. So noticing this: definitely made him shudder. Though, he sat up: looking up to see who could possibly be knocking at these hours. And there stood two grinning silver knights. Now this wasn't surprising as much… he had many different knight comrades visit him during his break. To the most known: like his fellow brother in silver, Silverbell. Or even knights who barely attended the training of the day. But this was rather different. They were a quite popular duo within the battlefields. A friendship that anyone saw from a mile away. Mercurial Knight at seeing their respective, personal armour: he knew he was in for a treat. Seeing these two together would mean no good.
“Commader! It has felt like a whole year since we've seen you!” The tallest one blurted out loudly, both of them walking toward him in a swift movement. Both stood at the right side of the commander’s bedside, the joyous aura coming from them was making the commander’s head spin. “Yes, yes.. it's been quite some time.” Mercurial Knight added right back, the calm once in his face now sharpened back into annoyance. His body stiffed, and his eyes glared at both of the men. He was attentive at what they could possibly pull from their sleeves. “Really. Commander, sir, with all due respect: you really scared us that day. Some knights were bawling!!” The shorter one stated, a hearty chuckle that made the other laugh. “Oh yeah! Gosh, commander, you should've seen it with your own eyes!” the other quickly commented, his face eager even under his helmet. The sound of obnoxious laughter made Mercurial Knight’s wings twitch in discomfort. He had been used to the soothing sound of his king's voice, and the quiet feeling of silence for a whole week and beyond. So the sudden change in his preferred atmosphere made him want to pull his hair out.
“Well, the most important thing is that I am well. Well enough to soon start our daily training mhm.” Mercurial Knight stated firmly, the sudden seriousness in his voice causing both of the knights to laugh under their breaths. The intentions of these knights were.. pretty questionable… and Mercurial Knight had already been seen in the beginning. Usually when someone would pay him a visit, they would be respectful and quiet. Give their words of hope for his well being and leave just as they entered: quietly. Key word right there. And these two were doing anything BUT remain quiet. So figuring out what they could possibly want from their commander could definitely be a puzzle. As more of Mercurial Knight’s thoughts flowed: the taller one leaned down: his voice dropping to a loud whisper. “Listen, listen we heard about those rumors you know.. pretty wild yo” The man smirked, raising his eyebrows more than expected. The choice of words was almost jaw dropping, yet the word actually spoken definitely got Mercurial Knight’s attention. “Pardon? Care to elaborate.” he whispered back awkwardly: he wasn't looking at both of them, and he wasn't planning on it. But he was planning to hear what was being said in the palace walls. Even if he was a man of power, los chismosos siempre andamos. (The gossipers are always there.) “Oh well of course! You, commander, and his majesty Elder Faerie, duh! His majesty’s care for you has been quite extraordinary,” “Exactly, commander. Some say his majesty is simply being kind, but some came to believe he may have fallen for you, sir.” Both of the knights whispered loudly as they explained quickly. This was silly, sure, but knowing what was going on right now is beyond important.. Mercurial Knight at hearing the words, felt as if his jaw dropped. Especially the last sentence… had the other faeries really believed that his king fell for him!? Was this true!?!? Could it be..? This news definitely stirred something within him. It could have been a peak form of rage bait: or this was truth in the purest form. “Uhh. Really?” The commander breathed out after a few seconds of thought, he was at the break of another tweak out soon, all when no one else was there to watch. But there went again.. the taller to speak once more….
“Which is why I wanted to ask, commander, you know… I heard his majesty tucked you in last night. Mhm. He is as good a cuddler as he is ruler.. perchance?” What the holy name of silver did he just say. As soon as the other one heard the ridiculous question: he erupted into laughter. Both of them laughing their asses off in unison. Leaving the commander dumbfounded. This genuinely took him a few minutes to process. This might be the biggest humiliation known in Faerie history. May this embarrassment never reach anyone else ever… Even if the state of full embarrassment: Mercurial Knight shot back. “You two have exactly 5 sec to leave this room. Before I schedule you both personal sparring matches with me…”
The duo wisely ran out.
Still. The pure embarrassment of it all was making Mercurial Knight crumble. As soon as those words escaped from the knight's mouth: he knew his face had turned into a beet red. He couldn't believe it, really. The only thing he did believe was the punishment that they would be receiving once Elder Faerie let him free. So there was Mercurial Knight. Left to rot in his own embarrassment. He wouldn’t dare to tell anyone, ESPECIALLY his dear king. This would be kept inside his head for the generations to come. No one else shall ask and we will be fine. Yes, perfect.
Despite all of this embarrassment and humiliation, he had to witness these weeks. He was proudly getting better with each passing day. Such a sudden change in his well being was almost satisfying to see. He ate proper meals each day, not the usual snatched rations that he would eat during small breaks. His muscles were always so tense, now felt lighter and relaxed. And maybe.. Just maybe… his stoicism had now softened overtime. It was a beautiful change to witness, and Elder Faerie was there to see it in front of his eyes. Mercurial Knight’s strength had now been replenished. His once wobbly steps in the beginning: now turned into short walks around the palace or royal garden. All small changes that made great progress in everyone's eyes. Especially the love he has given. Sure Mercurial Knight did in fact agree to take care of himself, but Elder Faerie was the root of this. The overwhelming care that he had been giving his commander was the top reason for his prime. And maybe even the teasing.. the teasing to truly wake him up and not 100% lazy off.
It wasn’t until one morning. At this point Mercurial Knight’s break had now been a full blown 3 weeks, wow. He stood up by himself, three healers examining the knight. He moved his arms, legs and shifted his wings. They were all looking and feeling better than ever before. Even the commander's face looked radiant. Usually so blunt and serious, now showed calmness and relaxation. With all of this said: one of the healers smiled greatly as he looked at his clipboard. “Commander. I think here we all agree, that we are proud to announce you healthy. And finally, to state you can finally return to light duty. Heavy on the light, commander.” The healer gave a low chuckle, accompanied by the other two joining him. Mercurial Knight has remembered that. He remembered how he insisted on having light duty once he was well. Then even the knight fully thought he could take his usual duty back: it was best to listen to his king for now.. which he had seen in the morning yet.. huh.
Once he was officially declared well, and could leave the infirmary: his first stop was his room. He was hesitant at first: since he thought his chambers would be dirty by now. A three weeks of negligence with his room: it was bound to not be as clean as it was originally. Yet to his most pleasant and thankful surprise: it was actually clean. As he opened the door, he got a fresh breath of clean air, this made me delighted. Now Mercurial Knight, now being used to this whole thing: had already suspected someone clean in here. There were two major guesses he thought. Either Elder Faerie had personally cleaned his chambers, or he asked for someone to clean it for him. Notice that both of the guesses had Elder Faerie in it. Elder Faerie. That name kept repeating in his head all day. To when he woke up, to when he touched his cold bed. He hadn't chatted to him yet… hell he probably didn't even know he was now free from that infirmary room. But he was no foolish man. He knew deep down he particularly owed his king his whole life now. Not even selling his own soul to him would be enough to pay his debt. This was serious. He knew strongly if he needed to thank someone, the first person would be him. Yes. He was spitting facts.
Now with this peak top facts clouding his head: his first mission was to find Elder Faerie as quickly as his wings allowed. No one else in this situation mattered. He was a respected knight, but with that also comes respecting others you know. He made his journey now. His stop was back in the infirmary, maybe if his king still thought he still laid there: nothing. Second was the quite obvious, the throne room. Maybe he was attending to some diplomatic matter in his throne: also nothing. Third was most obvious, the king's personal chambers. Maybe he was doing calming activities there..: otra vez nada. (Again, nothing.) Now at checking these obvious spots, and finding nothing. Mercurial Knight felt something, as if he was now panicking. The king really wasn't seen anywhere else, plus he had passed many hallways as well, while he traveled from place to place. But no breath-taking butterfly wings, no powerful, sweet scent of lavender was found. And don't think he was gonna ask someone. This shame had already reached a few level ups in his break, especially those rumors. He wouldn’t want to add on to them without knowing, he didn't want these faeries to twist his words into something they are clearly not. Entonces más vale que no diga nada. (Then he better not say anything.)
Just as Mercurial Knight was going to start pondering further: a servant had passed him. She walked slowly as her hands held a heavy looking vase, which held some gorgeous lilies that left their scent lingering near. Flowers.. the garden!! The royal garden was a perfect guess! Surely he would be there… Some days he would find the king lingering near the flowers. He would sometimes sit there a while, or tend to them himself. Really now, if Elder Faerie wasn’t there: then it might've been that he left the kingdom. But this time, he walked. And slowly. A combo he never thought he would be hitting ever. But he did. He let his mind wander as he started his anticipated walk towards the garden. He thought about the love and patience that his king had towards him. To some embarrassing moments where even the king was most serene. And even to the secretive moments where even the faerie king thought he was the only one truly awake. All of those moments had really shifted something within his very soul. He had never had anyone else so attentive to his needs ever. It was a nice change and an unforgettable experience that he would use for future interactions. Yet sadness was still present deep in him. He was a knight, he belonged in the battlefields with his other comrades. He was meant to be the embodiment of the kingdom’s strength, and a role model to quite literally anyone. But the thought of not being spoonfed, of not sharing a bed with the king anymore and his genuine tender care coming to end left an unexpected acne in his heart. And he was true to himself when he said he would truly miss those weeks, without a single doubt.
Surely, soon he was already stepping on the thin stones laid there. The royal gardens were a true beauty here in the area, also heavily popular. He took a fresh breath of the morning air, the scent of the flowers dominating. Despite the beauty that was in front of the commander's eyes: he still hadn't found his king. Not even a single trace of him, so he needs to lock in before he possibly vanishes to one of his duties. He made his way forward. A nice trail of rocks leading the way, massive garden arches looming over brushes, and not to forget the butterflies and insects chilling around. It felt like a painting coming to life, a scene so beautiful that could make anyone weep. Still in times like these, Mercurial Knight still only thought was the guardian. He had made a few turns by now. Stopped and looked around near the tulips, nonchalantly eavesdropped over two servants who talked about the garden, yet it still counted as a way to look for his Majesty SINCE it was near a patch of lavender.. he was checking all the flowers that he personally thought Elder Faerie would linger around most, yet no sign of him had been found. Plus, not to mention the garden itself was a well formed maze. It was as easy to get lost as it was for its beauty. But his resolution didn't falter /ref and only progressed further.
Yet as if faith were on his side today, making a sudden turn made him find his king. He stood frozen at the sudden jump scare at hiding him so quickly. He was going to head to the lilacs, but here his king was instead. He stood in front a luscious bush of pink camellias: he seemed to be in deep thought, his eyes locked in on a flower as his face tightened. Seeing just how serious his king was being at the moment, really shifted something in him. He need not hesitate any more. He must give thanks properly or else he'll chop off his wings instead.. With trembling hands, he gave a deep breath and formally approached the faerie king. He made sure to give some space as he stopped in his tracks, but despite awaiting the king's reaction: he didn't make a word. He didn't make his presence known, he just stood there. His face, always so sharp, was now unmistakably softened as he laid his eyes on the guardian. With the silver knight now here, Elder Faerie clearly noticed the sudden shift in the usual peaceful garden. He turned his head at feeling the cold glaze from the knight: his silver eyes locking in with his, in a silent conversation of sight. Yet the king let his eyes pounder on the knight's figure. His eyes trailed up and down at the knight's silhouette. He saw how his face looked more healthy, he saw how his wings now stood firmly, and how even his aura seemed more comforting now. Seeing all of these changes in his most beloved commander, he couldn’t help but smile for once. Especially knowing that he brought Mercurial Knight back to his prime, all thanks to himself. It was a silent trophy for him.
“Oh, my moon.. look at you!! You are practically glowing! You look better than ever.” Elder Faerie spoke first. The warmth in his words was enough for Mercurial Knight to feel it. He brought his hands together, his eyes still lingering on him, a bright smile that rivaled the sun staring at him. But he wasted no more time anymore. Finally he would be apple to show his affection, from HIS part. Swiftly, without a word, he lowered himself to his knees. Lowering his head while his hands touched the earth: all towards Elder Faerie. Yet since that didn’t feel as dramatic as he wanted, he went further down: the stone touching his forehead as he positioned himself correctly. His wings for once were not stiff with military precision, but were displayed and almost offering. All towards the king in front of him. All of this went too quickly, and the faerie was already too confused. The sudden movements of his commander stunned him. Was he doing a ritual on him or himself? What was he doing!? But still he didn't dare question the knight. He waited until the commander spoke next.
“Elder Faerie... My majesty. These past few weeks have been quite the experience for me. I have been greatly shamed and embarrassed, yet undeniably loved and cared for. You have shown great patience and immense care for me, a Silver knight. All the love you showered me with, as it led me to thrive once more. I truly cannot thank you enough, my king. I am eternally in debt. So please accept his humble act of gratitude.”
The words hung in the flower scent air. The words that Mercurial spoke.. they were straight from his silver-hard heart. He didn't think, or rehearsed these lines beforehand. All that was said, had come to him on the spot. They were authentic words of love. Elder Faerie, who had expected perhaps a quick nod, or a quiet word of thanks: was utterly bewildered. But the silence didn't last long. After a few minutes after Mercurial Knight has spoken: quiet sniffing was heard. Elder Faerie, who was originally serious: had now grown softer within these past minutes. He felt his eyes burn as they filled with water: his bottom lip, usually so stiff, was now quivering. And without holding back, tears were leaving his eyes. First slow and quiet.. but soon becoming a fury of waterfalls dripping down his cheeks. The sound of him gasping and weeping seemed to almost echo within the serene garden. And still, Mercurial Knight kept his position. Even if he wanted to look at his king's soft face: crumble and cry pathetically, he kept his position firmly. Waiting until the faerie king had given at least a proper sentence first.
“Oh you sweet fool ! You are such.. such a foolish foolish foolish knight….” Elder Faerie still in the peak of crying: dropped to his knees in front of the commander. His hands held Mercurial Knight's shoulders gently as he pulled him up. Feeling the king's intentions: he only obeyed. He sat up letting himself be held by his king: who showed no sign of ending his tears. Still, Elder Faerie went on: he pulled Mercurial Knight in a surprisingly tight embrace that left the knight breathless. Even in what felt like eons: the faerie brought his own wings to wrap around the commander, double hug if you would. He held him closer to him, his head buried in the Knight's polished armor. Wrapping them both in a cocoon of colorful passion. The striking contrast of these two was quite the scene, one a ruler of pure grace. While the other a faerie made of duties and devotion. Yet the warmth radiating from them, with these differences aside. Mercurial Knight, seeing how the king had surrendered himself to him: it made him lock in for once.
“I.. I just cared for you, my moon.. to think you humbled yourself like this.. ayyy!!” The faerie king continued on, great, joyous sobs that shook his entire frame. “I thought you just.. sniff pretended to care.. oh Mercurial Knight you do care!!” Each word, while was almost incoherent as the king's voice trembled: made Mercurial Knight’s warm grow. He was proud of himself once. Finally, he felt the pleasure of satisfaction flow freely through him. He was in a state of peacefulness that he had never encountered. So he knew he had to give in. He brought his arms to the king's body, returning the embrace back. His own mercury wings: laid over the king's gently. Making sure to not cause any unwanted discomfort. Even if this was displayed in a public area: Mercurial Knight had finally let himself a genuine smile for once and for all. The pain suffered for 3 weeks: finally caused him to give out a well deserved smile. With the shaking king in his arms, and his suit in fact becoming damp with tears: he knew it wouldn't matter in the future. What mattered the most was having his king with him, his trust, care, gentleness, tenderness and everything else. The unique trust they had for another, and the love that could be seen in different perspectives: these were the things that mattered the most. And even if it meant showing his devotion through a weeping royal hug, even it would be beyond worth it.
