Two Weeks Later

Summary:

Fire Spirit knocked a throw pillow over and put his leg on it. His face was twisted with discomfort as he immediately went back to tapping at his cast, just over the medial malleolus. "My stitches itch, my ankle hurts, and I'm bored," he said, wincing.

---

Fire Spirit's ankle has been healing well, but he still has some struggles...

Notes:

(This note is gonna be long... feel free to skip straight to the story! There's no warnings or anything)

Hey guys... I have really bad writers block rn sorry I didn't post for two days... ik I'm not obligated to post every day but I actually love writing and having been writers blocked has sucked so bad 😭😭
I wanna say here though I've really appreciate all of the love and support yall have given me. When I started uploading my Firewind fics to distract myself from my very first surgery, I didn't expect to get more than a few reads or any attention at all really. I now have people telling me that I'm their favorite author and getting so many kind comments and it really means a lot to me!! I'm so grateful for all of you whove read my fics, whether you've commented, left kudos, or just read!
This fic is basically a health update in the form of a Firewind fic.... basic summary is that I'm no longer bedbound, got my staples but not my stitches out, and I go back in four weeks to take x-rays and see how things are doing internally. As much as all of this has sucked I'm incredibly grateful for the supportive yall have given me since I started posting. I never thought writing a self indulgent fanfic would lead to all of this, but I'm glad it did. I love you all <3

Sorry for how long that was... now onto yet another self indulgent fanfic!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Wind Archer raised an eyebrow, hearing a repetitive tapping from the living room. He set his rag down on the counter to investigate... Fire Spirit was on the couch, hitting at his cast not quite lightly, but not hard either.

"What are you doing?" Wind Archer asked, "And elevate your ankle."

Fire Spirit knocked a throw pillow over and put his leg on it. His face was twisted with discomfort as he immediately went back to tapping at his cast, just over the medial malleolus. "My stitches itch, my ankle hurts, and I'm bored," he said, wincing.

It had been two weeks since his surgery to repair his broken ankle... it was healing well, according to the doctor, but it still hurt terribly. Fire Spirit had been moved from a splint to a proper cast two days ago, and while he still had limited mobility and couldn't bear weight on it, he was no longer bedbound.

Wind Archer gave Fire Spirit a kiss on the head. "Do you want some painkillers? And did you take your Calcium?" He asked, lips still close to Fire Spirit's head.

Fire Spirit winced with increased discomfort for a moment as a stab of pain shot through the sole of his foot. Despite the foot not being operated on, it had started giving him problems recently. "Nah. And yeah, I did. And the antibiotic..." he rolled his eyes, "Its disgusting."

"Antibiotics aren't made to taste good," Wind Archer said. He nudged Fire Spirit's bad leg until he lifted it, then slipped a second pillow under. It still wasn't quite above his heart, but it was better than before. "Need anything before I finish cleaning?"

Fire Spirit leaned back, struggling to get comfortable. The cast was much better than the splint, but still not comfortable. "Mind getting me some more water?" He asked.

Wind Archer nodded and silently took the cup sitting on the table. He put some extra ice in it despite knowing Fire Spirit's natural heat would melt it quick... but the doctor instructed him to drink lots of water with his antibiotic. And speaking of the doctor's instructions.... "The recent storm blew the seeds of the garden around. These little purple flowers have begun growing inside my wildflowers. I'll take you outside to see it later," he called from the kitchen, glancing out the window.

"Oh right... thirty minutes of direct sunlight a day," Fire Spirit rolled his eyes and leaned back a bit further. Wind Archer moved the pillows as his leg began to slip off them. "It still hot out?"

Wind Archer returned and gave him the water. "You live in the Dragon's Valley and you're made of flame. I think you can handle some heat..."

Fire Spirit scoffed, a small smile playing on his lips. "So? I have a cast on! It's gonna get all sweaty and gross and then it'll itch even more!" He said, a laugh in his tone.

Wind Archer tapped the cast himself, making Fire Spirit jolt a bit. "Either way, you have to get sunlight... Vitamin D will help the calcium absorb."

Fire Spirit made a face for a moment, his foot feeling odd. Almost like pins and needles, but it wouldn't go away. Wind Archer tapping the cast caused a small jolt of stabbing pain in it. "I guess... I'd rather not be in this thing any longer than necessarily," he said, a bit defeated.

"I'm sure. Now leave your cast alone..." he gave Fire Spirit a warning look as he saw the flame attempting to stick his hand down his cast, "I'm going to finish my cleaning. Call if you need anything..."

Fire Spirit grumbled and sat back, but Wind Archer was right. He stopped trying to get at his stitches and sat back, watching TV. As bored as he was, at least he could go outside now... and Wind Archer had made his recovery much easier.

Even if he did get a bit stir crazy towards the end, Wind Archer always made sure he was okay. Fire Spirit tried to make it easy for him... a large part of him felt horribly guilty for his dependency. But Wind Archer was so selfless. So kind. So...

Fire Spirit smiled to himself. It was hard to accept that he deserved all of it, but Wind Archer made it a bit easier. With Wind Archer by his side... his recovery felt much faster.
