Work Text:
The Spine saw the dazed look in the Reader's eyes and worked quickly to gently get him into the recovery position.
Reader didn't fight as The Spine lied him on his side and put a pillow under his head. Gentle metallic hands began to rub soothing patterns into the side of the Reader's neck as the world grew more and more faint around him.
"Yer gonna be alright, darlin'" The Spine reassured in a low, soft voice as the Reader's eyes began to flutter. Reader made an unintelligible groaning noise as his consciousness grew further and further away. "Don't fight it, dear"
It didn't take too long for the Reader's eyes to roll back as he began convulsing uncomfortably. The Spine was careful not to touch him, though remained close enough to where he could intervene if the human flipped onto his back.
"Yer doin' wonderful, sweetheart" The Spine soothed as the Reader convulsed, drool and vomit spilling down the side of his face and onto the pillow. He wasn't even sure if the Reader could hear him, but he wanted to at least try. "It'll be over soon. Yer doin' so well"
After a few painful minutes, the convulsions slowed to a halt, and the Reader tiredly opened his eyes, barely registering the world around him. The Spine smiled weakly and returned to rubbing soothing patterns into the other man's skin.
While he wished there was more he could do, he appreciated the opportunity to at least make sure the Reader was safe and cared for in these moments.
And the Reader appreciated him deeply.
