Elisabeth hovered. Her brow furrowed, but no tears came. Her fingers carved jagged, stuttering lines into the air, each movement clearly a wound. “Does this feel… real, to you?”
Jonas’s stomach dropped. Elisabeth looked to him like an apparition. Pale. She floated above him, caught between lake and sky. There were too many stars, here. He’d hoped… She’d been so young, when it happened. He’d hoped she had escaped feeling like he did. But she’d always known a lie for what it was.
