Chapter Text
Wednesday was out of the critical period between life and death, that is what Mrs Addams (“Please, just call me Morticia”) had said. She said that Wednesday was allowed more visitors than just family now. She said that she'd think her daughter would appreciate a visit from Enid.
Enid had a lot of mixed emotions about this. But the thought of seeing Wednesday alive and not half-dead and bleeding out on a cold concrete floor was overwhelming. Just hearing that she wasn't closer to death than living brought tears to her eyes when she shut the door behind Mrs Add- Mrs Morticia (“Drop the formalities, dearest.”), promising to be ready to visit the hospital with her in the early afternoon, and quickly blinked them away. She doubts her friend would appreciate any tears fallen for her, either mourning her death or grateful she's alive.
Wednesday didn't do tears, Enid in some strange way could appreciate that.
As her mind tumbled through thoughts of what clothes to wear and what she should say at the hospital and if Wednesday would like flowers or would her family have brought her any or would a card be more appropriate? A singular thought rushed through more times than any of the others: what gift should she get? Enid knew she technically didn't need to get her roommate a gift, in fact she's not even sure that it would even be appreciated by her, yet something about the idea rung through her brain as absolute genius.
So, off she went, leaving Nevermore's campus after hiring a taxi, tapping her multicoloured nails to her thighs in the back seat whilst the middle-aged driver took her to the nearest town center where she paid him what she thought was a lot of money for the singular ride. Still, after arriving at her destination and seeing the busy streets a little excitement began to brew at the thought of shopping, Enid couldn't exactly remember the last time she went shopping, most definitely during the school holidays, making the trip even more thrilling.
Before her mind could wander any further, she slapped her cheeks twice, earning a couple stares from the people walking pass, forcing her mind to focus on finding something Wednesday would like. Something black, that's a definite, she wouldn't want her to break out in hives whilst in hospital.
Enid began slowly walking, looking at the windows and inside stores, not really finding anything that particularly screamed ‘Wednesday’, plenty of stuff that she adored picking up a couple of items for herself. It had been a couple difficult weeks in worrying about her emo roomie and she had found the perfect pastel hoodie and a white maxi skirt that matched so perfectly together and would definitely be the outfit she’ll visit Wednesday in. Still, her search continued, dipping into various stores to comic book stores to more clothing stores until she landed in front of a toy store, not the ordinary kind selling dolls and action figures but one for stuffed animals. Enid stood in front of it for a while, debating whether to go inside or not until she decided it didn't do much harm going in even if it seemed unlikely that anything here would suit Wednesday.
At first her thought proved correct, her eyes suddenly being filled with brightly coloured stuffed animals, with fluorescent lighting making the fur on them appear even brighter. Still, she slowly walked around, as if something compelled her to continue inside the shop, walking past aisles of dogs and cats and even a small section of birds before she stopped in front of the bear section, pausing at one specific bear.
It had black fur, which already ticked off the main requirement of a good Wednesday gift with stitched crosses for the eyes using white string instead of a button look, and a small heart that was broken on one of the feet. “Perfect,” Enid spoke to no one but herself, a smile growing on her face as she picked up the teddy bear, feeling how soft the fur was in her hands. She briskly walked to the cashier, an acne ridden guy, probably not too much older than herself scanned her item whilst she rolled back and forth on the heels of her feet. Quickly paying and leaving the shop. This was perfect, screaming Wednesday all over the miserable looking face. Now she only needs to get back to Nevermore and wait until tomorrow to go visit her.
Once she finally got back and paid another taxi man a considerable amount of money it felt as if time had slowed down, leaving her waiting for tomorrow to arrive, yet her mind still raced with thoughts, maybe she should've gotten a card as well? Unfortunately it was too late now, and particularly because she wasn't going to spend another penny on any more taxis. She could make one herself? Or would Wednesday consider that cringe? Or have another Snood? Whilst she's never seen her wear the other one made that doesn't mean she dislikes it…
This would be much easier if Wednesday could just tell her, Enid thought solemnly.
The blonde looked at the black bear staring at the thick X’s instead of eyes, it didn't feel like enough for someone who was stuck in a coma. Or maybe it was too much? It's not like the person could tell her.
With an exaggerated sigh in the otherwise empty room, Enid flopped back on her bed she was sitting on, jostling the gift and the few other stuffed animals and pillows that resided there too. It would have to be enough, Wednesday would probably not even notice it anyways, she blinked a few times before, a wave of tiredness overcoming her suddenly, most likely from her suddenly busy day and the lack of sleep she's had, staring into space wishing to hear the tapping away of Wednesday on her ancient typewriter.
It was strange without her in the room, Enid didn't like it, as a few tears finally slipped from her eyes, ruining her eyeshadow and mascara. She wished Wednesday were here was the last thought before succumbing to her exhaustion.
She woke up early, still feeling the tiredness she has been feeling for the last couple weeks alongside her makeup sticking uncomfortably to her skin from where it was left on over night; she felt gross as she hopped into the shower before shoving her slightly scuffed school uniform on. It will be a half day for her, with Mrs Morticia collecting her at her room to see Wednesday.
Enid already couldn't wait and dreaded it at the same time.
Still, she went to her lessons, somewhat paying attention to what the teacher was saying but mostly in her own world thinking of seeing Wednesday, her body no longer bleeding out on cold concrete but safely in a hospital bed.
Today time went too quickly as she was soon excusing herself from lycanology to get ready in her dorm.
Pretty quickly she put on the new outfit she had brought yesterday, looking at it and swaying the skirt in the mirror before deciding the skirt was too long. Hospitals tend to have a lot of steps and she wouldn't want to be tripping over any of the steps, that would embarrass her for life. Then she tried more skirts, not liking how any of them looked with her new top, and she wasn't about to change that. She needed to wear at least one of the new things.
In the end, she went with pale blue jeans that flared slightly at the bottom with a pair of white shoes, nodding at her reflection in the mirror, finally happy with her outfit. And it was good timing, as she heard the knock on the door, opening it up to find Mrs Morticia on the other side.
She smiled at her, although it didn't quite reach her eyes, “Are you ready?” The older lady questioned, receiving a nod from the werewolf before she remembered Wednesday's gift and rushing to grab it.
The rest of the way was spent in silence, not uncomfortably, just silence. With Enid looking out the window, clenching and unclenching her hands whilst Mrs Morticia held what she could only assume was a cocktail in her hand whilst their servant (Lurch she thinks?) drove steadily to the hospital. Leaving the two to enter with Mrs Morticia spoke to the receptionist before walking towards the rooms, Enid following quickly behind her.
All of a sudden she stopped, almost having Enid run into her from how abrupt it was as the older lady slowly turned around to face her, “I shall wait out here, give you some alone time with Wednesday.” The teen nodded again, taking a deep breath and exhaling and doing it again before putting her hand on a door handle, tightening her grip on the teddy and finally pushing the plain door open.
Nothing could've prepared her for what she saw. Her friend had wires sticking out from all over the place, her skin was paler than she's ever seen which Enid genuinely didn't think was possible, cuts covered her face and a bandage was around her forehead, messing up her fringe and a black hospital gown adorned her clothing with a black blanket covering the girl. Her hair remained in plaits, neatly done either from a family member or a nurse, she wasn't sure, but it made Wednesday look slightly more alive as she laid perfectly skilled, her hands covering her chest like she was about to be buried in a coffin.
It felt very typical of Wednesday, she laughed inwardly although she could already feel the tears coming back and flooding her eyes. She tried to blink them away, although a few slipped down her cheeks anyway.
Briskly she took three strides towards her friend so she was standing right next to the bed, overlooking her best friend before she crouched down, sniffing up the snot that threatened to leave her nose. Wednesday would not want Enid to cry for her she's fairly sure, but she couldn't help herself but to.
Carefully she placed the bear onto the bed, avoiding the multiple wires sticking out in every surface of Wednesday’s skin, letting a few tears slip onto the bed whilst doing it. She sniffled again and crouched, pretending to hug the sleeping teen. “Get well soon Wednesday.” She managed to choke out, no more than a whisper as she continued to hug the comatose Wednesday before she walked out the white hospital room.
She could only hope that Wednesday woke up soon.

Wednesday waking up from her coma
Notes:
I really wanted to get part 2 out before part 2 aired, but that didn't work so instead I just haven't watched it yet, partly because I've been to busy to watch it yet. So this isn't cannon compliant but I hope it's still enjoyable ^^
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy!

Chapter Text
A couple weeks went past since Enid was granted permission to visit Wednesday in the hospital, to which she has taken the option multiple times, sometimes coming with a card or stories to tell and gossip to give. However, most of the time she sat, silent, watching the rise and fall of her roommate's chest, her arms crossed like a coffin, ever so Wednesday like, and her mouth slightly open. It was probably the most peaceful she's ever seen Wednesday in her entire life.
And each time she left she whispered the same thing each time, “Get well soon, Wednesday.” Before closing the hospital room’s door, sighing heavily and rubbing any trace of tears away. She had to be strong. For Wednesday. And she did not cry, so Enid won't either.
Enid surprisingly got used to the schedule, finishing school before dashing to the hospital and then completing her homework as quickly as possible and receiving multiple head shakes from teachers and warnings about it before repeating it all over again. This day wasn't going to be any different.
But a knock on her mathematics classroom changed everything, with Mrs Morticia standing at the entrance, turning all the heads of the students in the class.
“I’m here for Enid Sinclair.” She announced nonchalantly, staring right at the girl.
A lump began to form in her throat, she swallowed it down whilst packing her stuff away.
As soon as they were away from the door, Enid quickly opened her mouth, fear causing her voice to waver ever so slightly, “Did something happen to Wednesday?”
Mrs Morticia didn't say anything for a while, leaving Enid to think of every possible scenario that could have happened. Especially Wednesday being dead. She’d never forgive herself if her best friend was dead.
Then, she got a response, “Wednesday is awake, my dear. I thought you’d want to visit.”
A little stunned, Enid nodded her head, overcome with relief that her friend was not in fact dead and instead alive. It brought tears to her eyes but she blinked them away in the hopes that Mrs Morticia wouldn't notice.
The rest of the way was quiet, mostly in the car with Lurch driving, the loudest sound being the steady rumbling that the large car made. Enid tapped at her leg anxiously, trying to think of different ways to speak to Wednesday or how she should react around someone who had just woken up from a coma.
She's never been around someone waking up from a coma. She hadn't even seen anyone in a coma until Wednesday.
Soon though, the pair were at the hospital door, making their way until they reached the room Wednesday had been placed in; Mrs Morticia placed a gentle hand onto the student’s shoulder, her voice soft yet still holding the powerful intonation that it usually possessed, “Head inside, we’ll wait for you out here.”
Not entirely convinced, Enid stared at Mrs Morticia for a few seconds before she nodded towards the door, a small smile on her face whilst doing so - and additional permission to enter. So, taking a deep breath, she entered the sterile room, immediately seeing Wednesday sat on the bed filling her with wave after wave of relief.
She hadn't even noticed how Mr Addams walked out the door, leaving a seat beside the bed and some black flowers on a shelf near his daughter, too wound up from seeing Wednesday actually alive and not stuck in a limbo between life and death.
“Are you going to keep staring?” Brought Enid out of her small trance, the voice was raspy from weeks of not using it but it was still deadpan as always, making the question sound more of a statement.
The tears finally fell from Enid’s eyes.
“Wednesday!” She half-shouted briskly walking to the bed where her roommate sat. “I was so worried about you!” She sniffled this time, sitting in the slightly warm plastic seat beside the bed.
Wednesday starred for a while, before replying, “You had no need to worry about me. I was fine.” Leaving Enid baffled by how serious her statement sounded.
“Of course I was worried, my best friend was in a coma!” She sniffled again, trying to wipe the tears away as more kept coming. “It was so freakin’ worried about you!”
There was another moment of silence, with Wednesday silently judging Enid before signing and extending her arms out, “I didn't mean to frighten you “ was all she responded but Enid saw the silent request given, quickly taking up the offer of hugging Wednesday, letting the tears fall onto her shoulder as the smaller one gently patted her back.
“I’m so, so, so glad you're okay.” She whispered just loud enough to be heard by Wednesday who hummed in response, leaving the girls to embrace for what felt like mere seconds, although it was probably longer.
It didn't feel like enough for Enid though, not even eternity could make the moment feel like enough to her.
Then, a question popped into the colourful girl’s mind, “Did you see the bear I brought you?”
Without missing a beat, Wednesday whipped around and back, clutching the black bear in her hand, “This one?”
Enid quickly nodded her head, a silent question in her head which Wednesday seemed to telepathically understand.
“It's horrifyingly cute,” she remarked, looking down at the stuffed animals, “this means a lot.”
A small smile settled onto Enid’s tear stained and puffed nose face, snuggling as she asked another question “Have you named them yet?”
This time, Wednesday allowed herself to smile, ever so subtly but still noticed by Enid. “Frank.”
“Frank?”
“Frank.”
A small, wet laugh came out at how absurd it felt listening to Wednesday calling a bear such a basic name, it felt more likely to be called Lucifer or Beelzebub. “Frank is a great name.” She smiled a little bigger, grateful that her best friend was alive and still her usual myst
erious self, even if it just came down to naming a teddy bear.
Notes:
Naming the bear Frank seemed so utterly absurd to me from Wednesday that I just had to write it in. Additionally, apologies if this is a little to dialogue-heavy, I just wanted Enid and Wednesday to interact with eachother more ^^
I also at one point really wanted to allow Enid to swear after everything but that seemed out of character so she doesn't. #LetEnidSwear is now stuck in my mind after writing.
If there is any spelling or grammatical errors in the fic please do let me know. Thank you!
