Work Text:

It hits her, sometimes, the magnitude of just how much she’s lost.

The TARDIS key around her neck is all she has left of her past life — nothing but a useless memento now, but at least David went back and found it for her, so she has something to hold on to.

The trouble with having two hearts, Susan thinks, is that sometimes they feel different ways. She loves David, and she’s glad to be on Earth. But…

“I miss them,” Susan whispers, and David hugs her tightly.

Ian, with his good humor; Barbara, with her comforting smiles; both of them always looking out for her, whether at school or traveling.

And… Grandfather. For so very long, all they had was each other and the TARDIS.

And he left her here.

No tears, Grandfather told her. No regrets. But David says that it’s okay to cry, so sometimes Susan does.
